Port forwarding - Macbook not showing up in computer field

I'm trying to forward a port in my d-link control panel. I have to select which computer on the network to do so...there are two pc's, one desktop, one laptop & then my Mac. They are both showing in the drop down box, my Macbook is not. I'm connected to the internet fine...I'm unsure why my computer is not showing up & I need to select it, I believe, for the port forwarding.
Any ideas?

Port forwarding is generally done at the router level not the computer level. The router forwards all incoming/outgoing traffic for the port to the IP address specified - the given machine address as displayed by Network preferences.

  • Technical: Port Forward Does Not Show Requesting IP Properly

I have a server that blocks failed attempts to login via FTP but after my switch to the AEBS, I realized that when the unit forwards requests through to my server, it forwards the request from the router's IP itself of 192.168.1.1 instead of showing the IP number of the requesting entity. As such, when my server goes to block the failed login, it blocks my router entirely, which prevents any legitimate logins from working unless I remove the 192.168.1.1 address from the blocklist on my server. Is there some kind of way to adjust the AEBS to show the appropriate IP number during the port forwarding process?

I figured it out.  I'm trying to access the port from my work network and the firewalls are blocking the outbound traffic on that port.  I just tried an accessing the iport from my mobile phone and I was able to get a reply.  So the lesson learned is try and access the ip/port from another network because there may be a firewall blocking your access.

  • Ipod touch not showing up in 'computer'

My ipod 4g is not showing up in 'computer' on Windows 7. It shows up in iTunes, but not in computer. I tried updating itunes and ipod, still no luck. I need it for my pictures, and iCloud is too complicated to use easily.
    Please help!!

We have 16 pupil iPads at our school supervised by a Mac Air and we can't see the photos on any of them on the Mac, a Windows 7 or an XP machine. The unsupervised machines used by the teachers are fine. Is this a common problem? If so, is there any way around it not involving PhotoStream?

Today I was checking the server and I find that C: disk is not showing Under "My computer" whereas it is showing under disk management and its status is okay. Please tell what the problem and how I resolve that issue? Because server is in production and we can't afford sudden downtime.

  • My website shows an extra box image on PC's that is not showing on my computer in iWeb or online.

My website shows an extra box image on PC's that is not showing on my computer in iWeb or online. I know for sure that the box is not there in iWeb. You will see it on the homepage of www.gageformen.com of you're on a PC. Any clue how I can get rid of it? Thanks!

Post a screenshot of the page on the PC so we can see what you're referring to?  What type of box image is it?
By the way, I noticed that the only text in your entire site that is not an image file is that on the page RESPONSIBLE STYLE.  That's the only text in your site that a search engine can use in it's ranking and listing.  That could be limiting as to what the search engines have to use from your site.

  • Dvd/cd rom not showing up on computer.

dvd/cd rom not showing up on computer.  Where do I find the driver for the dvd/cd?
Have a pavilion dv6915nr with windows vista. Somehow the dvd/cd player is not showing up and will not play anything.
Any suggestions on what I can do.

Is this because i am an idiot and need a DVD drive?
Have you got a DVD drive?
Have you been able to playback DVDs before? If not, then you may very well need a DVD drive... not just a CD drive.
You'll be able to tell what you have by looking in 'My Computer' when there are no discs in the drives. The drives should show up as things like: 'CD-ROM Drive(D:)' or 'CD/DVD Drive(D:)'. If none of the drives have DVD in the title, you may just need a DVD drive.
If you have any luck getting them to show up, take a look at this thread for help on ripping DVDs to iPod.

  • Satellite Pro L300 - CD/DVD does not show on my computer

Hello ! This is probably a silly / easy question but I am very new in this and..... my CD/DVD unit does not work.
It does not show on "my computer" and when I insert a disk, nothing happens (except for a buzzing noise but then nothing)....
    Can someone kindly help me?
As the helpline does not answer on Saturdays...
    Many thanks !

    Hi
    Try this;
Access the device manager and remove the CD/DVD drive from the device manager list.
Then access the registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Reboot the notebook and check it again.

  • MacBook not showing external hard drive connected to Air Port Extreme

I have a MacBook 5.2 running Mac OS X Version 10.5.7. I am running a wireless network Air Port Extreme router Version 7.4.2. I have connected a 1 TB Western Digital 10EAVS External hard drive and a printer to the Air Port Extreme router via a USB 2 hub. My MacBook sees and I am able to utilize the printer, but the Western Digital 1 TB External drive does not show up. I can see the 1 TB External drive via the Air Port Application setup, but it is not showing up on my desktop or in Utilities/Disk Utilities. I have connected the External drive directly to the USB port on my MacBook, and the drive showed up on my desktop instantly. I partitioned the External drive into two partitions and ran Time Machine which successfully backed up my MacBook. I then disconnected the External hard drive from my MacBook and reconnected it to another USB port in the hub connected to the Air Port Extreme. Once again, my MacBook does not see the External hard drive. I can see the External hard drive via the Air Port Extreme application right down to the two individual partitions. I even removed the USB hub and plugged the External hard drive directly into the Air Port Extreme router, but my MacBook still did not see the hard drive. I've restored version 7.4 and 7.4.1 on the Air Port Extreme, but it did not help. Does anyone have any insight what settings might need to be changed on my MacBook to allow it to connect to the External hard drive while it is plugged into the Air Port Extreme wireless router?

Do you have an older "dome" style AEBS or the rectangular model? The former will not work with TM. Early versions of the former may not work until you enable them to see a TM drive by doing the following:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command and press RETURN:
    defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1
The drive should now be accessible via TM.

  • Ipod shuffle not showing in my computer

I have the same problem everyone else and none of the antidotes or fixes seem to work for me. My ipod shows up in the device manager as an ipod but shows as other device. Also the ipod doesnt show in my computer at all. I keep getting a cant "find driver" but yet I have the drivers in system32 I meet all the requirments and my USB ports work fine. I know these are the right drivers because I downloaded my ipod on my parents pc{which is the same as mine} and everything worked fine. Somehow the USB ports are not directed to get the driver or the path has changed. Should reinstall my operating system(windows xp home)??? Please help

My computer supports two Shuffles (but not at the same time). When they're plugged-in they don't show up in "My Computer" but in the Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager they're recognized simply as "Apple iPod USB Device" with no driver installed. They, nonetheless, work just fine and are recognized by iTunes in its Source List. I wouldn't worry too much if your computer has a problem recognizing your Shuffle -- the important thing is to get it working with iTunes.

  • External HDs not showing up on computer via firewire and usb

All external hds do not show up on the computer via firewire or usb. I must have perfomed some updates with my hardware plugged in. Does anybody know how to get this fixed?

Thought you could use this info about getting FireWire to work!
First, you should always Repair Permissions in Disk Utility before and after any update; I would do that now. If you installed your update with FireWire plugged in, your Mac may not recognize it anymore.
Try resetting your FireWire ports by disconnecting all FW devices, shut down your Mac and unplug it from AC power (wall socket) for 30 minutes. plug it back in and try FW.
If that did'nt work, download the combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try. Yours is the 10.3.9 Combo update. Others reading, download the Combo that applies to your system.
If that still did'nt get it Zap the PRAM. While restarting Mac hold down the following key combo Command-Option-P-R. Keep holding those keys down till you hear the second start-up chime, then release.
For those of you with Macs that are not PowerBooks or iBooks, a bad internal battery can cause FireWire to not be recognized, so make sure it's good!
    Good Luck!
    Cheers!

  • Port forwarded - but 'Transmission' shows it's still closed!

I'm having real issues with this one, so I thought it was time to turn to those who usually know. I have a Linksys Router connected to a Safecom Modem. I have chosen a range of ports in the router and enabled them to be forwarded. I've also made sure UPnP is enabled too. As far as the modem is concerned, all I seem to be able to do is to ensure NAT is enabled with the mode Dynamic NAPT selected also. I've gone into System Preferences/Sharing/Firewall created a new port name and opened the same range of port numbers thus letting through all TCP and UDP traffic on my chosen ports (also tried it with the Firewall off). Yet still the port remains closed and Transmission remains unable to automatically map. Any guidence would be really appreciated.
This is what it shows in Transmission's message log (if anyone can decipher it):

    Hi Simon,
It could be under LAN configuration or maybe NAT. But the one that looks really interesting is Virtual Server. That sounds like something which might be port forwarding.
You see, a NAT routing device has two interfaces, one for the WAN and one for the LAN. The WAN interface might have an IP address like 71.146.152.150 and the LAN interface might have an address of 192.168.1.1. When packets come to the LAN interface from an address like 192.168.1.2, the NAT subsitutes 71.146.152.150 for the return address and sends them out the WAN interface. When replies come, the NAT puts the original address back in the source address and sends it out the LAN interface.
But let's say you want to ftp to 192.168.1.2 from the outside world. All you can connect to is 71.146.152.150. Not very likely that your modem has an ftp server, or that you would want it. The only possibility is to forward packets with port 21 to 192.168.1.2. So this process could possibly be called "virtual serving". So I think you should check out Virtual Server and see if it isn't really port forwarding with a fancy name.

  • Ipod not showing on the computer, but still charging

Basically... I plugged my iPod into the computer a few days ago, and nothing happened- usually itunes opens automatically, but it didn't this time, so I opened up itunes to see what was happening, and the ipod wasn't showing. I checked in Finder, but there was no ipod there either.
I've read through all the literature about these sorts of problems, but the strange thing is that my ipod is showing as charging- so it's obviously got some sort of connection to the computer going on, even though it's not shoing up on the computer screen.
I bought my MacBook not long ago, and before, I had a PC... so my iPod is configured for running on Windows... I don't know if this affects this problem or not, but I figured it was worth mentioning.
Any help would be much appreciated, cause I'm totally lost here! Thanks in advance

I don't know if the ipod still works with my old windows laptop- wouldn't it erase all the data if I plugged it in to an empty itunes library? :/
And uhm... no, basically. It's not showing up on anything on the macbook, though on the ipod screen it says it's charging, which is what's quite puzzling.
Yeah, my ipod was transferring music until about a week ago or so, so I thought it probably wasn't that, but better safe than sorry!
The ipod itself seems to be fine- I was listening to it this morning, no problems at all. I guess it could be the cable- but I don't have another ipod to try on my macbook, if that's what you meant.
I'll see if I can go into the nearest Apple store sometime this week and see if they have anything to say about this!
    Anyway thanks for the reply!

  • I have just bought an iPod Nano to replace my previous one which died, when I open my iTunes it does not show the new iPod, and refuses to allow me to sync my existing library, the new iPod does not show in my computer only on devices, any suggestions ?

Question: I have just bought an iPod Nano to replace my previous one which "died" My computer does not recognize the new iPod and only shows it in devices and printers. I cannot sync my existing iTunes to the new iPod, there is no way I can do it. Any help please?

    Hey there longislandmacca,
It sounds like your iPod is not recognized in either Explorer, or in iTunes on your PC. That can be frustrating, expecially when its a new device. I recommend you use the following article to help resolve that issue named:
