Port Forwarding on MI424WR Rev.C

Hi. I've been trying so hard to port forward onto my internet router. I have done so properly, shut off my fire wall, shut off my laptop, shut off the router for a minute, etc. It still says the ports are unopened with my PFPortChecker.

I called the Expert Verizon twice. They told me to keep putting the same port in over and over. Still hasn't worked.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

You have it backwards
On the router.
It should say source port ANY destination port 27015 and you need to specify a target ip address
You do not need to shut off firewall

I want to put a Buffalo NAS storage device on the USB port on the MI424WR (Rev. F) - Wireless Broadband Router, but Actiontec says a firmware upgrade to Rev G is needed to do this. If I do the upgrade (will it even allow it?) will I trash my router such that it won't work (and I may not be able to restore it to Rev F)? Anyone have any experience attempting this?

What I meant by "not enabled", is that there is no firmware support of any kind.
No mass storage driver, etc.

Port Forwarding for L2TP/IPSec VPN Behind Verizon Actiontec MI424WR-GEN2 Rev. E v20.21.0.2

I've got a NAS setup with various services running on custom ports to help minimize exposure (especially to script kiddies). I've tested everything both internally and externally to confirm they all work, and even had someone at a remote location confirm accessibility as well. Port forward configurations performed on the Actiontec are working well.
I installed an L2TP/IPSec VPN server, tested internally and it connected successfully. So for all intents & purposes, this validates that the VPN server is correctly configured to accept inbound connections and functioning correctly.
I logged into the Verizon Actiontec MI424WR router, setup port forwarding for UDP ports 500, 1701 & 4500.
Note: I added the AH & ESP protocols based on what I saw on the built-in L2TP/IPSec rules
With the port forwarding in place, I tested VPN externally but it didn't connect.
I've done the following so far to no avail:
Double & triple checked the port forwards, deleted & recreated the rules a few times to be sure
There are no other pre-existing L2RP/IPSec port forward rules or otherwise conflicting port forward rules (e.g.: another rule for ports 500, 1701 or 4500)
There was an L2TP port triggering rule enabled, that I toggled on and off with no change
Verified the firewall on VPN server had an exclusion for L2TP, or that the firewall is off. (Firewall is off to reduce a layer of complexity, but it worked internally to begin with so I doubt that's the issue.)
Since it works internally, and there are no entries in the logs on the device indicating inbound connections, I'm convinced its an issue with the Verizon Actiontec router. But unfortunately, I'm not sure what else to try or where else to look to troubleshoot this. For instance, is there a log on the router that I can view in real time (e.g.: tail) that would show me whether or not the inbound connection attempt is reaching the device, and whether or not the device allowed or blocked it?

Firmware 20.21.0.2
Verizon Actiontec built-in L2TP/IPSec rule templates. They're not currently in use, but are baked into the firmware for easy configuration/selection from a drop down menu.

normally a vpn on that router, will have a GRE tunneling protocol as well.

I know the preconfigured VPN rules will do the GRE protocol as well, but if you do it by hand you can't get it.

Actiontec MI424WR rev I port forwarding issue.

Within the last month, all of my wireless security cameras as well as my Directv DVR have stopped responding to remote access. All of the cameras work fine when directly connected to an e-net cable. I have checked all the settings on the router and they have not changed. I then tried to check the ports assigned to the cameras and found that they are all reported as CLOSED by two different internet port checkers. However, these same port checkers report eveything closed on this router., but my browser, email, remote desktop all work ok. Before I tear any more hair out, can some one have pity on an old fart and tell me what I have overlooked????

I had a session with a VZW tech who in turn brought an Actiontec tech on the line. What we did was to delete all of the current camera rules and reinstall them. Everything now works. ?????
THe one remaining issue regards the port checkers that show all the well known ports closed. We never came up with an answer to that. But they are not stopping anything from working. One other item regarding the camera ports. If the camera is not on for some reason, then the port will show that it is closed...

The prior firmware update for the Actiontec knocked out the automatic update using DynamicDNS.
The 10/31 update fixed the problem of updating DynamicDNS however it seems to have done something to port forwarding.
Prior to the last two updates of the Actiontec's firmware I used to be able to run an FTP server on a USB drive connected to a router double NATed behind the Actiontec. I was also able to remotely access certain devices using port forwarding from the Actiontec. Not working anymore.
Based on your problem I think it is a firmware issue with the Actiontec and there may be nothing that can be done until the next firmware update.

Port range forwarding on MI424WR Revision I

I'm trying to get Passive FTP working through my newly installed MI424WR Rev. I router. I tried doing a port range in the "Port Forwarding" section of the configuration page with no luck. I have also tried "Port Triggering" but that didn't seem to work either.
Does anyone know how I could get the FIOS router to just pass a range along to a server inside the network?

did you do a custom rule, or did you use the FTP option that is preconfigured through the actiontec. Look at the preconfigured port list.

I have an Actiontec MI424WR and have 2 servers nn1 and nn2 running IIS and Apache.
Here is what I have being forwarded currently which works fine outside and behind router.
192.168.nnn.nn1 HTTP - TCP Any -> 80
192.168.nnn.nn2 HTTP Secondary - TCP Any -> 8080
I need to add something like (ie. forward 8181 to 80) so i can do http://mysite.com:8181 to website page on 192.168.nnn.nn2:80
e.g. some like this
192.168.nnn.nn2 HTTP Third- TCP forward 8181 to 80
How do I specify this in the router? I tried several things (like 8181->80) and nothing works.

Why don't you just add a web site on port 8181 on 192.168.nnn.nn2 and then change your port forwarding to tcpany to 8181
then build a link from website 8181 to website 80

Actiontec Rev. F port forwarding - is filtering by IP possible?

I would like to know if Actiontect Rev. F router allows filtering by IP address for port forwarding (similar to Windows 7 firewall, Advanced Settings, "Scope" tab). That is I want only requests from specific external IP address to be allowed through.

MI424WR Port Forwarding Is driving me insane

Hello,
I recently wanted to play some games with some friends over hamachi and normally hamachi works but sometimes it still needs you to portforward to connect to a friend. We received a new router in the mail a while back and I never switched it but my brother did and now I am stuck with this nightmare.
All I want to do, is to be able to open a port TCP or UDP at anytime but sadly this router is preventing me from doing such. Lets use 7777 as the port I want open; I go to the port forwarding page and open that and then I check it with a port checker like http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ and I still get a closed PORT.
-Windows firewall is completly off (for the sake of making sure it is not interfering)
-I do not have two routers ( I know of the problem with two routers)
-I am on a Dynamic IP not a Static but that should not matter as long as the IP address does not change (which it hasn't) and even if it did change I would just change the IP from the port forwarding menu. ( I highly doubt being on dynamic is the problem)
-I have also tried to DMZ my IP and it is still blocking my ports
-I have done a factory Reset on the router (Nothing changed)
-I called actiontec and they told me "Sir, please DMZ your ip address and your problem should be solved" I wanted to pull my hair out at how ignorant these people are when I clearly explain to them that I have done all the steps they wanted me to do (which all they did was direct me toward the port forwarding page and told me to do what I have already done for the past 10 years..... PORT FORWARD)

The image attached shows that my ports are forwarded and that they are on 'ANY'
It shows my IP adress on run > cmd > ip config
Any help would be appreciated. I am open to any ideas

MI424WR-GEN3I Port Forwarding for Battlefield 4

I looked around for ways to get more than one player on my lan into a game in BF4. A small program called smart port forwarding did hte job as far as connecting but it was laggy. I found this statement on another guide and don't understand fully what this means. Anyone have some input? Thanks in advance.
"The MI424WR-GEN3I will not allow you to forward enough ports, to run Battlefield 4. You should try using the DMZ portion of this router if it is available. Alternatively you can try switching the router to bridged mode. You will need to contact your ISP to switch to bridged mode, so they can make the required changed on their end."

While I understand you have FIOS Internet, do you also have FIOS TV?

Port Forwarding, MI424WR

I'm not even sure I'll give enough information here, because I don't really know what I'm talking about. However, I've been working with a couple of "technical" people from my office.
Essentially, I'm trying to connect two devices (Yamaha Disklavier Pianos) over my FIOS connection (for a process called Remote Lesson) and need to utilize port forwarding. I've tried the instructions on the www.actiontec.com website (Basic Port Forwarding on the MI424WR Verion Fios Router), but have been unable to connect successfully.
Basically, here's the two things I need to do (cut and pasted from a technical document draft). Can someone please advise what might be going wrong?   I could also forward the entire "connection" document to someone who might want to take a look at it and get a clearer picture.
At any rate, here are steps 2 and 3 of the process we're trying to do:
2. Port Forwarding for Remote Lesson (WAN to LAN)
- Port 58092 is used in both TCP and UDP by default.
        - Note: You can choose any port unless it has already used.
- Please configure a system to forward the access of this port to Disklavier.
3. Release of the port to the Internet (LAN to WAN)
- If the access of port 58092 is filtered, please release this port in both TCP and UDP.
         Note: If your partner has configured another port number, please release that port in both TCP and UDP.
Port setting table
PORT FORWARDING (WAN TO LAN): IP Address (original LAN Address)
Port Number (origin)
Protocol: Both TCP and UDP
RELEASE OF THE PORT (LAN TO WAN): Port Number: Destination or all
   Protocol: Both TCP and UDP

If you're only trying to connect the 2 devices within your local lan you do not need to do anything with port forwarding. You would only need to add port forwarding rules if you are going to access the devices from remote sites.
The below addresses step 2 of your question.
Step 3 of your question is not needed as the actiontec does not block any port access from the LAN to the WAN
Step 2 allowing wan to lan access
If you are doing the latter then you would want to give the device fixed ip addresses, make sure they are out of the dhcp range of the actiontec router.
Then go to firewall setting
Select Port Forwarding tab
Select New Entry
add the IP address of the device in the Local Host field
Make sure Forward to Port is set as Same as incoming Port
Make sure Schedule is set as Always
Under protocols Select User defined
Make the service name whatever you want - e.g Piano
Select new server ports
Under protocols Select TCP
Under source port select single
enter 58092
Make sure destination port saya Any
Hit OK
Select New server ports again and repeat the last five steps for protocol UDP
then say OK
Say OK to the Edit port Forwarding rule
Now you should be able to access the device from the outside WAN

ActionTec MI424WR / Port Forwarding

I consider myself pretty tech savvy. I've configured plenty of Cisco PIX routers so I have some experience. But for the life of me, I can't get ANY port forwarding working. I have an ActionTec MI424-WR Rev D router with firmware 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.11.6. I've read the manual, I've configured port forwarding. But no matter what port I choose, it never shows as open. I've called ActionTec twice and they walked me through the steps, which were identical to what I did, and no matter what, the ports are not forwarding. They appear to be blocked somewhere.
I do not have a second router. The FIOS comes into the ActionTec router and then two of my computers are connected as part of a network. I am trying to set up a SSH tunnel to one of my home computers. I've tried the standard port 22, and a bunch of non-standard ports. I've even tried to get RDP working on 3389 and no joy. The port forwarding is setup, I've tried medium and low security on the firewall. From other computers on the network, I can telnet to port 22 using both ip address and dns name and I get my OpenSSH screen. But it's not availble from outside. I have tried it with Windows firewall (XP) both on with exceptions and off. Still no joy.
I have read that people all over are doing this, but it isn't working for me. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be wrong or how to diagnose the problem? Shields Up says my ports are stealthed. CanyouSeeMe.org sometimes says connection denied and sometimes says connection timeout. I don't know what else to try.

Okay, problem is partially solved. I installed CopSSH on my other computer, edited the port forwarding to point to the other computer, and it works. I never suspected my own computer was the problem. The question is why? The only firewall on my computer is Windows firewall (XP), which I've created exceptions for and even tried disabling. I still wasn't able to access the port. So something on my machine is blocking ports but I have no idea what. Does anyone have any ideas where to look? I turned off Windows Defender and Symantec AV but that didn't help (and then turned them back on).

Port Forwarding Question for IP Camera with MI424WR-GEN3

So just switched to fios from cable and trying to set up port forwarding on this new actiontec router so I can view my IP Camera from outside the house.
The camera has a static IP address of 192.168.1.200 using port 8080 and I works fine if I type that IP address with the port into the browser inside the network.
The IP Camera company requires you to port forward port 80 (switched to 8080) 554 and 50000-60000.
So I set up Portforwarding on the router like this:
Networked Computer / Device
192.168.1.200:8080
Applications & Ports Forwarded
IPCamera
TCP 8080 -> 8080
UDP 8080 -> 8080
TCP 554 -> 554
UDP 554 -> 554
TCP 50000-60000 -> 50000-60000

Now the problem is when I type my real IP address: 108.XX.XXX.37:8080 (from inside the network it pulls up the Fios router login page and when I pull it up outside the network I get page not found. ?? How to set up actiontec MI242wr rev F router to accomodate Static IP addresses, port forwarding?

I just got a new Verizon/Actiontec replacement router and I want to configure 4 or 5 static IP addresses beginning at 192.168.1.201 and above.
At this point, I have changed the DHCP range from 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.250, to 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.200, so that is now the DHCP pool. That presumably leaves anything above 192.168.1.200 open for static IP assignments.
a) So now how do I create a Static IP reservation for a device? (what router screens should I use? do the device(s) that I want a static IP have to be connected?, etc.)
b) Once I have the static IP address reserved/configured, how can I make the appropriate port forward rule(s) for the devices? Specifically, I want to allow SSH connections to each of the static IP addresses/devices.
(I tried this once but the router complained after I made the first port forwarding rule saying that it was already in use!?!? and I want to avoid this problem again).

thanks for your suggestion. I figured out what to do...I let each device receive an address by DHCP, and then in the router, I went to Advanced -> Connections, double clicked on the device to get more details and set the "Static Lease" check box.
What this does is a address reservation for the device, but still configures it via DHCP.
It would be nice if the router manual noted this small detail, that devices can be configured as having a static address 'reservation' that is administered by the DHCP service, OR, one can set a 'static IP address' by ensuring that the device address is outside of the DHCP pool.

Replacing MI424WR Rev F Router

I got Asus RT-AC68U high speed router. Have it hooked to my MI424WR Rev F router as an WL Access Point. MI424WR was having issues connecting to my WiiU. The Asus has no issues. I want to make the Asus the main router (much faster). I know CAT5 to ONT. Can I get my TV guides to work?

My on screen caller id works fine, via the double natt'd vz router - you just need to forward to the VZ router the verizon fios service port tat were created on the VZ router.

Port Forwarding not working between Fios Router and Netgear R6200 AT ALL

For the past two days I've been trying to forward port 80 and port 9000 from my Fios Router to my new NetGear R6200 Router and absolutely nothing is working. I need these ports open and forwarded as I need to forward them to my surveillance system from my R6200. The problem is that port forwarding is not working AT ALL. I've literally tried EVERYTHING. I turned my firewall off completely, enabled DMZ, changed my R6200 to a static IP, turned off uPnP on both sides, and reset my router to factory settings. I'm all out of patience and ideas. This is exactly why I went out and bought the R6200 in the first place, Verizon's Routers are atrocious.
Hardware:
First Router (Gateway): Verizon Fios Aciontec MI424WR
Second Router: NetGear R6200 Dual Band 802.11AC Router
Surveillance System DVR: Zmodo H9114 DVR
OS: Windows 8 Pro 64-Bit
At this point I'm willing to try anything. Fios customer support knew absolutely nothing and wasted my time and if a tech is sent to my house I'm sure the same exact outcome will occur. I recall someone saying that cloning the MAC of a different REV. worked for them but I don't recall the details. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The DHCP Server in the secondary router should be off.
