Port forwarding within Internet Sharing
my xbox is connected to my macbook sharing the wireless internet, but i want to forward a port to my xbox. how do i do that? can't connect the xbox directly to the router.
How did you get the xbox to share the internet connection?? I can't seem to get it to work with my setup for some reason.
I've got a macbook connected through wireless. The xbox is plugged into the mac. the internet sharing is on. Web sharing is on. The Airport is set as the top priority port... Double checked all the firewall settings... The only thing I can think I haven't tried is a different type of cable... Do I need a cross-over? I'm totally stumped!

Port forwarding through Internet Sharing
Here's my setup:
- I have a Linksys router, I have that connected wirelessly to my macbook, I have that setup for Ethernet internet sharing to my desktop pc.
- I want to enable port forwarding so that I can access my PC through VNC.
- My macbooks ip address is within 192.168.1.x and my desktop's IP address from the macbook is within 192.168.2.x
- When I connect to my router and try to set up port forwarding I can only forward ports within the 192.168.1.x range.
- I've tried a bunch of garbage to get it set up, one main thing I've tried was to st my PC's ip address statically to something withing 192.168.1.x, but my default gateway address is 192.168.2.1 so I'm not even sure if thats possible.
- I really need some help with this, any would be very much appreciated.Hi guys. My setup is pretty simple. I have a Terayon cable modem hooked to an iMac. Im doing internet sharing to everybody. I don't need an access point and don't wish to have to buy a new one when I have such a beautiful machine right.
So I want to do port forwarding using the internet share to connect an XBox360.
The ports i want to configure are detailed in www.portforward.com
Anyway I can't see how to do it but I know that for you guys this is all puppy chow. So i decided to give you guys the opportunity to be creative with this setup. -
Port Forwarding and Internet Sharing
Hey all,
I have a wireless network set up through a Time Capsule. My iBook is connected to this network via Airport. In addition, I have a computer with no wireless connected to my laptop via Ethernet. I have my System Preferences set up to Share Internet with Built-In Ethernet. The problem is this. I want to use the second computer (which accesses the Internet fine) as a server. The Airport does not recognize the second computer as a Client, but does see the iBook. I believe I need to Forward Ports to the iBook (local IP: 10.0.1.5) and then forward them again with the iBook to the other computer which has the local IP 196.168.2.2.
Is my thinking right in this? How would I need to configure this to make it work as I've explained?
If I'm unclear I can clarify.
Thanks,
DanielHi Daniel,
I think the problem is, is that the Internet Sharing isa pass through connection.
Try this, in Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations, duplicate the Airport interface, make sure the on used for internet is dragged to the top of the list, then Manually configure if need be, the second one to join the local Network. -

Forwarding Ports While Using Internet Sharing
I'm trying to get StarCraft working (being able to host games) on my MacBook Pro which is connected to the internet through an iMac G5 which has Internet Sharing turned on and is connected directly to the cable modem. I found some directions online involving using natd on the iMac to forward the ports manually. I have set natd to run on startup with a "-f natd.conf" flag, and my natd.conf has these lines:
redirect_port tcp 10.0.2.2:6112-6119 6112-6119
redirect_port udp 10.0.2.2:6112-6119 6112-6119
10.0.2.2 is the IP address that the iMac has given my MacBook as stated in my Networking preference pane. However, hosting games in StarCraft still does not work and according to this site my port 6112 is still "closed".
Any ideas?Firewalls...harumph.
Cause more problems than they solve...not really
Two firewalls (mac's and this intego thingie) will cause more problems than running two antivirus programs on a PC.
Folks need to come up with really good reasons to use more "firewall power" than mac's excellent firewall.
Anyway, glad you found it! -
Port Forwarding (for IP Camera)
I have so far been unsuccessful in in setting up my new ip camera for remote monitoring.
I have followed all instructions within the "bt homehub" domain for port forwarding in application sharing but when I check that the port (80) is open (using pfportckecker.exe) it returns "unable to ping your router" and "port is not open or available".
Can anyone help please - I am becoming very frustrated !
Thanks
Solved!

Thanks,

For "Unknown-7c-dd-90-05-5e-df" the bit in bold should be the MAC address of your camera. It is normally printed on the device somewhere.
You can rename this if you wish, by editing the name to something more appropriate.
You should have a created a custom rule called mikes-camera, which with:-
Protocol TCP
Start port 8080
End port 8080
Mapped to 8080
Leave the rest blank.
You should be able to assign this to the device.
A lot depends on which version of the home hub you are using.
What I have found by experience, is that it is better to use a static IP address, if your device supports it, as DHCP can be a bit unreliable when port mapping is involved.
You can use a static address outside of the DHCP range. Like 192.168.1.50.
You can still forward ports to it, by selecting the device by its IP address, not its name.
If you can view your camera within your own network, using http://192.168.1.69:8080 then you just need to persevere with the port mapping.

How to port forward with AirPort Extreme
I really just cant find an accurate description in the support community. Err, let me rephrase: I'm not tech-savvy enough to really comprehend all aspects of port forwarding within the AirPort utility.
I am trying to set up a server for a game (Starbound) and I have been trying for hours to open 1 port. I believe it connects through TCP on port 20125.
I cant seem to figure out which IP address the utility needs. The router's? Which IP address is the router's if so? How do I see that?
I wish server was freeware so badly, I've watched videos and tried to replicate the results manually but I just absolutely can't get it. Would really appreciate support on this, as I've never encountered this problem configuring port forwarding in a browser-based scenario.
Thanks all. All I really need is a walkthrough to open that ONE port. For reference the following AirPort User Tip will give you the basics for port forwarding.
I cant seem to figure out which IP address the utility needs.
What is required is the IP address of the host device that you want reached from the Internet. In this case it would be the server hosting the Starbound game.
It is highly recommended that you configure your server with a static Private IP address. You can do this using the DHCP Reservation feature of the AirPort Utility. What this does is assign a dedicated address from the pool of addresses that are provided to local network clients. You will then use this address to populate the IP Address field for the port mapping. Note: Port Forwarding and Port Mapping are used interchangeably. Apple uses Port Mapping.
To assign a DHCP Reservation:
Start the AirPort Utility, select the AirPort Extreme, and then, select Edit.
Select the Network tab.
Click on the "+" button under the DHCP Reservations window.
For "Description," enter Starbound or whatever you want to describe this port mapping.
Reserve Address By: MAC Address
MAC Address: (Note: This will be the hardware MAC address of the server's Ethernet or wireless interface.)
IPv4 Address: [enter the desired IP Address that you want to assign the server. It should be from the available pool of DHCP addresses. By default this pool is: 10.0.1.2 thru 10.0.1.200. For example, you can use 10.0.1.100
Select Save
Using the reference provided earlier, use the AirPort Utility to define the port mapping that you require. (Note: You should still be on the Network tab.) I filled in the values for you. Note, however; that you may need to change the value for the IP Address field to the address that you set earlier in the DHCP Reservation. -
UTorrent, Internet Sharing and Port Forwarding: Horrid Trifecta
Every good question has a couple of miles of back story, so here it comes:
I bought a Windows PC recently, and one of the first programs I downloaded was uTorrent. I have an iBook G4 running 10.4.8, but I have no wireless router, so I thought I would use internet sharing to get my new laptop off the ground. Everything connects great, internet sharing is wonderful on the web, but then I use uTorrent and notice that I'm uploading at nearly 3 times the speed I'm downloading, even when I only have 12kb of a file. I then notice the small icon at the bottom of the application that looks like a warning flag that my computer is confused, and I figure out that the problem is my new laptop has no ears, or rather, no listening port through which uTorrent can increase the speed of my DOWNloads. Further searching reveals that the traffic on the appropriate port is not getting through, hence I try to figure out how to manipulate internet sharing into forwarding the appropriate port range. I found Brickhouse, or as it is now known, Flying Buttress, but the program is remarkably confusing (to be perfectly honest, I'm not that bright). I cannot get FB to forward the port, no matter how hard I tried (every time I clicked Start IP Sharing, the it wouldn't work). So I can't use FB. I thought I would be clever and create a network on my Windows PC and share it with my iBook, but apparently my iBook refuses to share the Windows internet.
So now I am stuck trying to figure out how to get this Windows PC to receive traffic on TCP/UDP ports 10000-65535 through my Mac. To be honest, I really thought that the Mac would easily be able to forward the ports (is this in store for Leopard?), and I was a little disappointed the whole thing was so frustrating, but then I tried to setup an ad-hoc network on the Windows PC and realized that my Mac is still FAR easier to use, despite is insufficiencies.
So, long story short, I need help forwarding ports through internet sharing. If you can help me use FB, that's great, but to be honest, I would like a cleaner solution if possible. So my question is: How do I get my Mac to share port traffic with Windows if it is running internet sharing?
iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8) Other Computer: Windows XP, other specs available on requestI was hoping more for a permanent solution that doesn't cost $100. Did I mention I'm in China? That program seems great and all, but I have the same technical difficulties I've had with FB. I can get the thing running and still have an internet connection on my machine, however, the port mapping or port forwarding or whatever you wish to call it doesn't actually work. These programs make it very difficult to understand what's going on; I checked the IP Address on my windows machine and used it as the actual address for the port I wanted to forward, I applied the settings and absolutely nothing changed on the windows machine. I went to portforward.com to check if the port was forwarded properly and still no response. This will sound stupid, but when I hook up the windows machine to the router through ethernet, it works perfectly, no forwarding required, so it is essentially my mac that is blocking or absorbing the intended traffic, but if I hook up the windows machine to the router, I have no internet for my Mac (I'm not sure if that's a problem with my Mac or with ICS). Can you explain to me how to use this program to forward ONE port, and ONLY forward one port (or a range of ports would be even better) without all of its inane firewalling that blocks all the internet traffic? Or am I just hopeless on this issue?

Time Capsule disconnects internet when using web server through port forwarding
My current config is: 2TB Time Capsule running 7.6.3, Mac Pro running Lion (10.7.5), MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion (10.8.3), and a couple of MacBook Pro Retinas running Mountain Lion. My current ISP is Comcast.
I have the Time Capsule set up to port forward port 80 to the Mac Pro for the purpose of running a web server. Most of the traffic is shuttling fairly large m4v files back and forth to work (work product from video editing work). I can reach the webserver on the Mac Pro just fine from the outside world, and can list files in the directory just fine. When I initiate a download (via right click on a link, "Save As..." or whatever), the Time Capsule reports that the Internet has been disconnected, and all machines inside my network lose access to the outside world. I have to either power cycle the Time Capsule, or disconnect/reconnect the Cat-6 cable between the cable modem and the Time Capsule to re-establish the connection. Interestingly, the download continues and completes on the other end without issue (so, the connection is actually still there!).
Before switching to Comcast, I was on AT&T Uverse - Uverse includes a router, so I had the TIme Capsule set up in Bridge Mode. That worked fine. I also have an older 500GB 1st generation Time Capsule. I set it up with the same config as my 2TB TC, and it shows the exact same behavior - internet disconnects upon initiating a file download through a forwarded port. I then hooked the Mac Pro up directly to the cable modem. I can initiate a download without issue, and I continue to stay connected to the Internet without problem. Called Comcast anyway - they report no errors on the line, but reset the whole device chain anyway. No change in behaviors.
I tried downgrading the Time Capsule software to 7.6.2 (the earliest version that came on it). No dice, same behavior.
So... I called Apple. Complete and utter FAIL. Apple Support reports that they have no training in the port forwarding features of the Time Capule or Airport products, and cannot help me resolve the issue because of that. So, I have a $300 router that apparently cannot perform a simple routing function (download through a forwarded port), that I cannot troubleshoot (because Airport software v7 is an epic fail in that regard), made by a company who cannot support it - and everything this $300 device is doing can be done by a $50 device with a $100 external hard drive?
Do I understand this situation correctly? What have I missed in trying to troubleshoot this thing?Apple Support reports that they have no training in the port forwarding features of the Time Capule or Airport products, and cannot help me resolve the issue because of that. Excellent summary.. I think you have covered all the salient points most thoroughly.
Port forwarding on the TC I would put into the category of "epic fail"
I have a nasty feeling it just doesn't work in many cases. Clearly from your situation the port is forwarded correctly.. it is the actual download that is causing the device to crash.. which is probably not the port forwarding itself that is at fault but rather the external link and opening another port for the download to happen.
Many of the issues were caused by using icloud and btmm.. which would work a lot better btw. Although the hassle there is needing to offer that as a service to any Tom Dick or Harry.
Let me suggest a work around or other things to try.
I also have an older 500GB 1st generation Time Capsule. I set it up with the same config as my 2TB TC, and it shows the exact same behavior - internet disconnects upon initiating a file download through a forwarded port.
Use 5.6 utility.. more info below. And take the firmware of this unit (Gen1) back to 7.5.2 (before icloud mess ups in 7.6).
You can go back to 7.5 firmware also in Gen4 TC if it is more than about 14months old.. Simply hold down the option key when you select firmware and the old versions will show up. If your TC came with 7.6.1 (the 7.6.2 was withdrawn as it was even bigger failure than 7.6.3). then you cannot go back.
You might also find downloading via http is not as reliable as using FTP.. FTP is a better and more efficient protocol. It should be no problem to setup ftp server on the mac pro to allow download via ftp even with a browser.
But in the end.. your $50 router suggestion.. well perhaps a little more than that.. $80-100 will work very well.. also this router can be setup with a Hard Disk and offer the files to the internet via FTP.. without needing full network access to your internal network.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
2. Download and install unpkg.
http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

Port forwarding for Mac that shares internet to Airport in bridge mode?
I use Air Video server, which allows me to stream movies from my Mac to my iPhone or iPad. It sits on port 45631 and that's closed.
I recently moved from NYC to CO, and because of my cable modem not being compatible with my older Airport router, I must use my Mac Pro to forward my Internet service from one Ethernet port to another - so that my older Airport Extreme can then broadcast wirelessly.
Since I use the AirPort in bridge mode, and the Mac is forwarding the connection - how do I forward the port so Air Video can send through to the internet?

Hi all,
I have a Cisco 800 Series router that i configured to do some port forwarding. However i must have done something wrong, because i am unable to access the ports .
Here is the configuration file of the router.

Unable to set mailbox forwarder within ECP using Internet Explorer
We seem to have an issue that has developed where using Internet Explorer we are now unable to set a mailbox forwarder within the ECP.
When we use Internet Explorer 11 the following is used to discover the issue:
1. Under mailboxes select any recipient, click "mailbox features" > and under Mail Flow click "View details"
2. Click "Enable forwarding" > "Browse" and then select and recipient you want to forward ail too.
3. Once you click on "Ok" it will be observed that the field in IE is blank account to forward to is not there.
We have tried rebooting the CAS already in case something was cached but this did not help resolve the issue.
We have noticed that if you open the ECP and repeat the steps in Firefox or Chrome the issue is not there. This is happening on all our machines in the domain and says to me it is an IE issue rather than Exchange maybe.. Does anyone know what might be causing
it?
Our environment is Windows Server 2012 R2, Exchange 2013 CU6Hi,
After installing update 3008923, some web application modal dialog boxes may not work correctly in Internet Explorer 11. Now there is an update to resolve this issue.
For your reference:

Losing ethernet port after turning on internet sharing
Just received a new iMac with Mountain Lion. I am connected to the internet through ethernet. I was setting up to share my internet access through the system prefs panel and internet sharing checkbox. This used to be called web sharing. However, once I check internet sharing to turn it on, I lose my internet connectivity through my ethernet port. If I turn on my wifi, and set the status order to use wifi works, then the internet access works ok. If I uncheck internet sharing, the ethernet port does not come back working. I have to delete that ethernet port under the Network panel and then create a new ethernet port. Then everything will work again. I have not seen this problem before.
Any ideas appreciated.Next time the ethernet drops off, try opening System Preferences/Network, click on the Assist me button, and run Diagnostics to see if that will show you anything helpful. If the ethernet is working now, likely the test will not show anything.
If you monitor the "More Like This" box (top right), other threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads. Maybe you can find other ideas there. -
I start internet sharing through air port but the arrow in the desktop tool bar doesnt show up.
i figured it out through another persons post thanks anyway.

Port Forwarding to Mac Pro with 2 different internet connections
I have my Mac Pro connected to the back of my cable modem. I have given this service the name "Cable" in my network preferences. The details are:
IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.100
Subnet: 255.255.248.0
Router: xxx.xxx.xxx.1
I have the other Ethernet port of my Mac Pro connected to the back of my Airport Extreme which runs ADSL+ from another ISP. I have called this service "ADSL". The details for this connection are:
IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.188
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
I run a calibre server on the Mac Pro and on my PC (the PC is directly plugged into the back of the Airport Extreme). I have a Dyndns service that works on the address of the Airport Extreme base station.
I can access the PC's calibre server via the mobile network but NOT the Mac's. Even though I have port forwarding to the Mac's reserved IP address of 188, I can't access the server. I can access it on my iphone/ipad via WIFI but not from the mobile network.
If in my Network preferences I change the order of the services i.e. make the ADSL the top service and cable the second, I CAN access the server from the mobile network. It works as it should. If I change the order so that the Cable service is on top, I can't access the server again.
Why does this happen? Can I fix this? Do I need to set up another Dyndns service on my Mac Pro?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am going to post this as a new post as well because I'm not sure whether the people that were so helpful last time will know that I have updated the post.Just installed TeamViewer and we're using that. Works great.
