Port Fowarding Limitations

I do apologize if this has already been addressed, i did a search and did not find anything pertaining to exactly what i am looking to answer.
I currently own the Airport extreme. And my only negative comment about it is "Why was it not designed to use port fowarding ranges..?" "or why was it not designed to handle more port fowarding(limit is 25-30 i think?)"
I am curious if the new airport extremem addresses these issues or if it runs on the same principle as the older model. Thank you.

Echleon, Welcome to the discussion area!
In the AirPort Extreme (802.11n) discussion area, there have been discussions about this. You can enter ranges of ports as in 25-30.

  • Port Forwarding To Two Macs with Port 22 limitations

This is another port forwarding/port 22 issue and I've look around and not seen an answer to my specific problem.  I work for a business that has an in-house ad system that runs on a Mac Mini.  I have been accessing that Mac Mini remotely because we set up port forwarding through the Linksys rounter that is at the business using port 22.  This is the only port that works for this connection to the mini and the software.
We are now adding a second Mac Mini to send the ads to a different set of monitors.  I can't set up port forward to the new mini on the same port so I don't know how to connect to this mini remotely.  Is there a way to get into the first mini through port 22 and then somehow communite to the second one through the first?  Is there another way to do port forwarding...or have the linksys router switch from one mini to the other when a request comes in?  There will only be one remote computer trying to reach either Mac Mini so there will never be simultaneous traffic coming in.  Any help would be appreciated!
The linksys router is critical to the business becasue a host of other devices are forwarded though it as well.
    Thank you.

Having set up my IP camera with HH4 successfully, I've now got another one and would like to set it up as well. I gave it a unique, static IP address which my router can see fine. When I try to set up port forwarding, I get a message saying:
"The game or application you’ve selected conflicts with an application (IP Cam 1) you’ve already assigned to another device. Please remove the other application or select the same device."
I am not being given the option to select the same device.
I'm now wondering if port forwarding to two identical devices actually works in principle with HH4? Has anyone else done this?
If in the Home Hub 4 A you go to
    Advanced Settings
    Firewall
    Port Fowarding
    Manage Games and Applications
    You get the following statement:
"Each game or application can be assigned to only one device on your home network"
I would think that the only way round your problem is to have each Camera running a different application or the same application with a different name.
Does the remote browser app need to know the application name  or just the device name ?
If you think about how Port Forwarding needs to function you need a way whereby  the remote user needs to be able to tell the Hub what Camera to talk to.

  • Port fowarding not working and Max Payne 3

I have had a proble with this game badly lagging and some things not being applied to my account while playing etc etc etc
Now the ports that I've already opened ( or seemingly not ) are :-
    UDP 6672
    UDP 27900
    UDP 27901
    443
I have put the Hub 3 ( 3A ) into DMZ, and when I go to an online port checking facility no matter which one it tells me that eaach of the ports are closed, and I'm still lagging in game etc
I'm not new to computers, just not done a lot of connection problems.I did the port forwarding via a BT tech rep over the phone, so there shouldn't be any problems with how it's been setup ( e.g me not putting in something should have been taken out of the equation ).
I've seen a few posts about the HH3a not doing as it should. So 2 questions here, can I ask/demand a HH3B, and is there the same problems with this as with the HH3A ?
If you have any other questions for me, be free to ask, but I might ask how to do some things
    Andy

After 4 telephone conversations , it appears that either there is something wrong with the HH3 Type A , and port forwarding isn't happening , or the HH3 doesn't allow me to see if the port forwards are concerned, which isn't very helpful either way.
Added to which BT are unable to send me out a HH3 Type B because  " they are undergoing testing at the moment, because there is a problem with them " , quote , unquote. It has taken these 4 phone calls to find this out, which could've been explained the first time, instead of just fobbing me off, saying the port fowards are done, when clearly as far as  online open port checkers are concerned, their not.
So, there isn't any way I can go back to the game developers technical help , until this problem is sorted.
I've put a post on another thread asking which router would be best for me to purchase, as this seems my only course of action, with BT just washing their hands of the situation, saying that although port forwarding is part of the HH3, it doesn't mean to say that it works, and they don't support it !
    Many thanks for any replies.

charlie368, Welcome to the discussion area!
Using AirPort Utility you can configure the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to forward the port(s) to the camera. However the camera will need to be assigned a local IP address. The default local IP addresses are in the 10.0.1.x range.
To get to the camera from the internet, you would use the IP address provided by your ISP. This is the one used by the WAN side of the AEBS.

  • Creating a Server WITHOUT port fowarding

How do I make it so that a person can download the server.jar file, run it, and have people connect to it (socket 11114) without having to configure their router to foward that port. I know its possible because in professional games, people can connect to each other and the user doesnt have to use port fowarding.
    Thanks

Normally a client doesn't need to forward ports to connect to a server at all. A router usually prevents an arbitrary connection to a computer it's routing, since it may be routing many computers and the intended one may be impossible to identify unless pre-configured with the router. Connecting from the routed computer does not have this problem, so long as the server has its ports ready, except for the rare case where the router doubles as an anti-trojan firewall, in which case it needs to be configured accordingly, but that's really the client's problem(and fault, for enabling such a feature on the router in the first place, or actually picking out the extra-rare router that has such a feature on by default).
This simply requires that the client connects to the server, and never vice versa. This is okay for a connection-based protocol, like TCP.
For a datagram protocol like UDP, most modern routers tend to "remember" where routed computers sent a packet to, and use it to figure out where packets sent back should go, so as long as the client sends the first packet, and so long as the server sends replies within a certain timelimit(usually 60 seconds), it should work without any special port forwarding.
The few users using a router without that support would either have to configure their router, or use TCP only.

  • How to configure my AEBS to port fowarding?

The problem is that i cannot give or receive any webcam from my friend on aMsn or Yahoo Messenger. I know that i need to give a static IP to my computer and do port fowarding but i dont know how.
We have two iMac here, that are connected to internet via my AEBS. Secondly, I use a airport Express to stream music in my receiver and to connect my blu-ray my disc player and my Wii to internet.
So how arranged that without creating problem with my whole network?
Please, I would appreciated a clear method like 1- go to,... 2- click on,...

Hello IacsaP. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    AEBSn - Port Mapping Setup
To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
    1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the host device.
    Internet > DHCP tab
o On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
o Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
o Reserve address by: MAC Address
    o Click Continue.
o MAC Address: <enter the MAC (what Apple calls Ethernet ID if you are using wired or AirPort ID if wireless) hardware address of the host computer>
    o IPv4 Address: <enter the desired IP address>
    o Click Done.
    2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
    Advanced > Port Mapping tab
o Click the "+" (Add) button
o Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
o Public UDP Port(s): <enter the appropriate UDP port values>
o Public TCP Port(s): <enter the appropriate TCP port values>
o Private IP Address: <enter the IP address of the host server>
o Private UDP Port(s): <enter the same as Public UDP Ports or your choice>
o Private TCP Port(s): <enter the same as Public TCP Ports or your choice>
    o Click "Continue"

  • Port Fowarding problems

OK,  I have a WRV200 wireless router.  My problem is with port fowarding.  It works fine off of a single ip address.  For example,  if I want to forward a port to 192.168.16.16 it wotks no problem but whatever a try to forward to another ip it doen't work.  For emaple we added a new server and want to forward port 5901 on it but it doesn't get forwarded.  If i istall the application to the other server and forward 5902 to that servers ip 192.168.16.16 it works.  Anybody have similar problems.  I have 3 of these out at client locations and all 3 act the same.  I just never noticed it because I only had to forward any ports to a single internal ip.

Did you try to update to the latest firmware?

You will have to create your own custom application, and define the ports you need. Then assign that to the IP address of your computer.

It would help if you stated what port your talking about I am guessing your talking about port 80 and webserving.
In order to use a domain name to connect internally to your webserver or any other type of server your router needs to supporit's not easy being greent loopback.
If your router does not support lookback you need to edit your hosts file.
If your trying to connect to the server if it is running on your mac you need to add the following line to your hosts file. you can can use pico to do that.
    sudo pico /etc/hosts
    then add the line
    127.0.0.1 your.site.com
or if the server is on another ip on your lan use its local ip
    192.168.0.5 your.site.com

  • Port Fowarding + Iomega Network Drive (port fowarding)

    Hi,
I have a WRT120N which is working fine. I just bought a IOMEGA network drive and found i had to port foward the router so i could acess it from outsite my private network. I did everything written here and the UPNP option wont work.

But still, it wont port fowart. I tested for ports here
    http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/
and the ports are closed. I cant acess it no matter what. What do i have to do for this to work
PLEASE HELP ME. ITS DRIVING ME NUTS.
    Dan

Bypass the router and connect your PC to the modem. Use your port checker and see if the ports are open. If the results come up as closed, then you will need to have these accessible from the modem. Otherwise, no amount of port forwarding, triggering or DMZ will get these ports to open on the router.

  • WRT54GSV4 port foward for bittorrent?

hi, i have a WRT54GSV4 but am currently having problems fowarding ports in my router. even if i port fowarded the ports in "gaming and applications", it says closed on the utorrent reader. i dont quite understand about static ip thing. on the main page it says "automatically configuration DHCP" any help would be greatly appreciated

    For a checklist see here.
Otherwise, please post the exact settings you use on the router for port forwarding, triggering and DMZ at the moment. Also check the status page on the router and make sure the router has a public IP address and not an address like 192.168.*.* or similiar (see the "Make sure the router has a direct connection to the internet" in the checklist above).

  • Linksys X3500 - Port Forwarding (limited)

    Hi everybody!
We have purchased 3 pieces of Linksys X3500.
One for us and a couple for an installer (our customer) who wants to make a wireless home network (for a couple of end users).
I have to tell you that we are a distributor for security systems (Tvcc and so on) in our area (north of Milan) and we have a lot of NVR and DVR on our network we need to put on-line as demos.
Today i start to configure the Modem/Router and i find no prob since i tried to add "some" port forwarding...
We have about 60 single ports to configure and the page of device is limited to not more than 15 (customized) slots!!
I was hoping the device was able to allow me to add more slots but it seams to be not possible!
    How can i do?
(ps: i don't want to add an external firewall to do it!)

I wasn't talking about the algorithm of wireless but the one used for manage the priority of the traffic...(when devices are already connected)
and if there's an external device (hardware) that can do a better job (like a "Lan Controller" but cheapest).

  • Port Foward Vs. DMZ

My company is in the process of implementing a new system that they want internal and external access to.
I would like to use our DMZ, however there is a concern that we will overrun the throughput of our PIX 525.
The software vendor just wants us to port forward from the outside across the firewall. What are the ramifications of doing this besides the large security holes from the untrusted to trusted network?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply.
We have a pix 525 pair in active/standby right now. Each has 256MB of memory and they are not being utilized very heavy today. We have on average 30 concurrent VPN connections, plus the PIX is our Firewall for our companies internet access.
We are worried about the throughput when we bring our new software system online. We will have 200Mb of bandwidth out of our data center to our offices and up to 100Mb of bandwidth outbound to the internet. If we put all our application on the DMZ, that is very close to the PIX rated throughput of 330. If we put only a few of the systems on the DMZ, then the
servers will not be able to communicate to eachother at 1Gb speeds because of the PIX limitations.
As for port forwarding, the application will only need 2 open ports. SSL and another TCP port.
As for the servers, they will all have public IPs assigned to them (either physically assigned in a port forward setup or through NAT in a DMZ setup).
My major concern with port forwarding is if one of the servers is compromised, then the entire inside network becomes vulnerable.
Even if we put them on the DMZ I am still going to need to allow access from the inside to the DMZ for internal users. Is it possible to do this securely?
    Thanks
