Port : How to ...

How to find whether a port is busy or not ?
Please help, I am stuck.....
I searched the java.net, javax.net, but could not get
any clues..
Max !

There can not be two processes listening on the same port belonging to the same IP address), because if a connection comes in, to whom should the OS then forward it? While not stated expressis verbis in the documentation (which is anyway far from being verbose on the possible errors), if follows from the notion of a TCP port.
The problem is however, that an Exception can arise (besides the port's being already busy) from other reasons: insuffient privileges (on UNIX system the ports below 1024 are reserved for the super user), the port number might be invalid (negative or above the limit) etc.

  • Routing counter to PFI line/ not routing counter to any external port - How is it done?

    Hi!
I am using a counter to create a sample clock for digital output. The counter looks just like the one in the example attached.
I now discovered that the counter frequency is routed to PFI12 of my NI6259. I don´t know why, I haven´t done this. I don´t want the counter at any external line because it causes interferences.
If it is not possible to route the counter to no port, how can I route it to another port? I did not find any answer in the knowledge base to that question.
    Thanks for your help.
    Best regards,

    Thanks for the replies!
I tried the signal routing, but it doesn´t work as I expected. I routed PFI12 to PFI 15. Now the signal is at both outputs. Even if the deactivate or delete the signal routing VI it stays that way.
If there is a possibility to route it and get rid of it at PFI2, I would choose one of the PXI trigger lines, as the are not in the screw terminal
I attached the signal routing example I made, could you have a look at it, maybe I did it wrong?

    Hi Venkat,
Please ask this question in routing/switching forum. As far as i know you can only configure pa-mc-8te1 as E1 or T1 ports. For more details please visit the below link.

There is no official use of that port by anyone outside of Apple.

    You can't without hacking it.

  • EDI over WCF request-response port - how to catch failed messages and send response over a 2 way port

I'm using BizTalk 2009.  I've written an orchestration for accepting 270's and returning 271's, and another for 276's and 277's.  The incoming and outgoing EDI stream is wrapped in XML.  I've published the schema using the WCF publishing wizard,
and I am using the WCF-WSHttp adapter.  I have custom pipeline components to unwrap and wrap the XML, and to handle the NACK generated by the adapter.  Everything works fine if valid EDI is received.
However, I'm challenged with handling failures from the EDI disassambler.  The specification I've been given is to return a 271 or 277 in all cases (or as many as possible).  What I would like to do is catch the failed message, generate a (271
or 277) response, and return that response over the 2-way port.  I know how to enable failed message routing and how to subscribe to the message if it were to come in over a one-way port.  It seems that this cannot be done when the message comes
    in over a 2-way port.
Any suggestions on how this can be done?

I should have mentioned that turning off as much EDI validation as I can in the pipeline is already part of my approach.  However, to my knowledge, there are some validations (such as incorrect segment count in the SE) that cannot be disabled.
Regarding the TA1/997/999 - because this is a real time transaction, I'm not generating any.  Still, to take your suggest, I decided to generate a 997, thinking I could at least subscribe to it and if the 997 indicated a failure, to
generate the response (in the form of a 271 or 277) that my trading partner is expecting.  What I found was that the 997 was being returned through the send pipeline of the 2 way port, EVEN WHEN I set RouteAckOn2WayPort to False on the receive pipeline!
This produces even more work for me, because now I have to "eat" the acknowledgement so that the 271 or 277 can get through.

  • Mac Mini with Air Port & Mac Mini w/no Air Port - how do I network them?

I want to put in a wireless network so that my two Mac Minis can both access the internet. One Mac Mini (2007) has an airport built in - the other does not. I purchased an Air POrt station but doesn't seem to work with the Mini that has no Airport built in. Should I use a Router?

Can I connect my Mini with no Air Port to the new Airport Station and then connect the Airport station to my DSL Modem? That would the leave my other Mini with Airport free to connect wirelessly through the Air Port Station - correct?
Yes, that is correct. There are a number of different Airport base stations you could have, but unless it is an Airport Express (slightly larger than a cigarette packet in size) it will have a WAN port (which connects to the DSL modem) and at least one LAN port (to which you can connect a computer with a suitable ethernet 'patch' cable). The latest Airport Extreme base station has three LAN ports, you can use any of them.
If you have the Airport Express base station, it only has ONE ethernet connection, so it can't be used to connect upstream to the modem and downstream to the computer at the same time. However, you could then try your Buffalo wifi base station instead - it may not state that it is Mac compatible, but as long as it meets the standards laid down for wifi, it should work just fine.
I thought my Older Mini had to have the Air Port card installed in order to connect at all to the Station.
No, it only need an airport card inside for wifi connection. The ethernet port on the back works with or without airport installed.
I thought I tried this and it didn't work but perhaps I did it wrong.
Without familiarity with these devices and systems, it's very easy to 'get it wrong'... and very hard to figure out what the problem is! Reading the manual for the base station will help you, as will looking at the sort of article Neil linked to earlier.
If you connect everything up and it doesn't work, post back with details of how you have connected things, how you have configured them, and what is happening - the more detail the better since small things can make a big difference in whether networks work or not!!

  • Printer is asking for a proxy port, how do i find that number

my printer is asking for a proxy port number ,how do I find that number?

    Hey tomdenise,
If your network is not on a proxy, you do not need to enter a proxy. Here are the steps you need to go through to resolve this issue.
    1. Find your printer's IP address by printing a network configuration page.
    2. Type you IP address into the address bar of your web browser.
    3. Click on the network tab at the top of the page.
    4. Look at the left hand side and click IPv4 under wireless.
    5. Change the IP settings to Manual.
    6. Enter the printer's IP address, your subnet mask, and your routers IP address or default gateway in the spaces.
    7. Set the Prefered DNS to 8.8.8.8.
    8. Set the Alternate DNS to 8.8.4.4.
    9. Click apply.(You may need to refresh the page if it says processing for longer than a min and click apply again.)
    10. Now try to enable Web Services.
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
If I have resolved your issue, feel free to provide Kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided.

  • Sockets and ports - how to route through another machine?

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone out there can help me:
If all you need to create a connection is an IP address and a port number, using streams...
Can you route messages from A to B then from B to C, where A looks up C through B having a hash table which contains C's IP address and port number?
And how in the first instance does B know about A's IP address? All the examples I've seen the IP address is hard coded?
    Thanks in advance!

Ok, so i mean I know this is possible, but I have some users who need to communicate with each other, sorta a message passing approach but with TCP rather than using JMS (time to do this in is v limited).
They need to talk to a middle computer, whos job it is to lookup an appropriate partner to talk to, but:
how do i go about getting the IP address in the first place so that they know who to talk to?
Before communication can take place does there have to be some agreement in which they exchange IP addresses and port numbers?
