Port Mapping Filezilla FTP Server

I just got a new AirPort Extreme Base Station (802.11n). I must say, I'm pleased for the most part. I'm having an issue with remotely connecting to my FTP server inside the network though.
Setup:
The whole this is connected as follows:
Cable Modem - AEBS - Wired Windows PC
On this windows PC I run an FTP & HTTP server. Both are functioning properly as they always have, both on the localhost and within the network.
The HTTP protocol is working fine. I have port 80 mapped to my PC's static IP of 10.0.1.100. I can browse my hosted site from a remote PC no problem.
Yet, from a remote PC I am unable to fully establish FTP communication. I have port 21 mapped to my PC's static IP as well. Communication seems to be happening; the remote PC gets prompted for their username and password. Shortly after (within a timeout time), the FTP server replies that it cannout open the data channel.
Data:
Here is the Remote PC's log of the FTP session:
Status: Connecting to $server.com ...
Status: Connected with $server.com. Waiting for welcome message...

Command: PASV
Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (10,0,1,100,16,141)
Command: LIST
Response: 425 Can't open data connection.
Error: Could not retrieve directory listing
Solutions Attempts:
I have tried mapping the FTP data port (20) to the server's static IP to no avail. I even went as far as setting the server as the default host (DMZ); this didn't work either.
Am I looking at a fresh firmware bug here or am I missing anything? Thanks for your help.
P.S. No changes have been made on the server and every other no name router I've used has successfully port mapped the server; it's definitely the new hardware.

1. Try to connect to your FTP-Server in AKTIVE-Mode,
it's a setting in your FTP-Client
Most all FTP clients are defaulted to passive mode, and I want to connect without asking all users to change their settings.
Previous routers did not require anything like this, why would this new base station obfuscate the setup?
2. Don't use the same AirportXtrem internet
connection (for testing your FTP-Service) where is
your FTP-Server behind. I don't know why, when I try
to establish a connection I could not go out and come
back through my AXtrem on the same way.
Try it with a Modem, UMTS or with another internet
connection.
I don't know exactly what you're talking about. Please explain better or with more details.

  • Enabling ports / port mapping for FTP

Greetings! I have an iMac G5 (Tiger) connected to the internet via an Airport Express. Connected to the Airport is a DSL modem. The Airport uses a static IP for internet access via the DSL modem.
I've enabled FTP services on the G5, and am trying to figure out how to map the appropriate ports to allow FTP access remotely from the internet. I assume I would need to use the static IP with the remote FTP client, then the Airport would route the request to the iMac using port mapping... correct, or incorrect? How, specifically, should this be set up? ie... what ports need opening, routed to where, etc.
    Thx!

  • Windows 8.1 Pro - FTP.exe not able to put file to FTP Server

    Hi
We have replaced our Windows XP environment to Windows 8.1 Pro. Now I have problem with sending files through FTP to very old devices. Devices are runninng FTP Servers. Each time I try to "PUT" file on Windows 8.1 I receive message after some time:
    "Connection closed by remote host"
If I make the same on Windows XP file is stored on FTP successfully.
From Windows 8.1 I am able to upload software only via Filezilla, but I need command line solution like FTP.exe or ncFTP.exe (non of them are able to stor file)
I have observed in Wireshark, that ftp.exe sends about 80kB of data, waits for some time and then it stops.
    Summary of my problem:
    Source Appl
    Destination
      Status
    Win XP ftp.exe
    FTP Server upload ok
    Win 8.1 ftp.exe
    FTP Server upload failed
    Win 8.1 ncFTP.exe
    FTP Server upload failed
    Win 8.1 filezilla
FTP Server upload ok (but no command line solution)
    Win 8.1 environment:
    - standard installation of Windows 8.1 with newest Microsoft patches
    - firewall ports - opened for inbound and outbound traffic
    - no antivirus
    FTP Server on problematic devices:
    - old FTP Server, transfer in passive mode
I need command line solution tu upload files. Now I am not able to upload 1500 devices as we don't have Windows XP anymore.
What I have observed, when I type "PUT file" it takes about 20-30 seconds to start transfer on Windows XP or through filezilla.
Is there any problem with timeout in Windows 8.1 when it transfer files to old FTP server (working in passive mode)?
    Thanks and regards,

Can you clarify what you are trying to achieve as the underlined is contradictory. Assuming you mean that you can't see an ftp server on your home machine via the internet away from home then you need to check a few things. Is your ftp server set to passive or active mode? Have you forwarded port21 to the appropriate machine (passive) or ports 21 and >1023 (active)? Are you using a dynamic DNS service such as DynDNS as your IP adddress will be dynamic? Have you opted out of CG-NAT?  http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44044/~/ip-address-translation%2Fsharing
Yes, you can use any third party router you wish. It will need to be a VDSL modem/router if on Infinity.

  • FTP and Port mapping

    Hi
we get troubles with our FTP Server. The clients send a Syn with Src port 40000 then the Server replies with the the same dst port but i presume that the loadbalancer makes a port-mapping and translate the source Port to eg. 33000. Our firewall clearly drops the packet with the reason "Packet out of state". have you any idea ?

    Hi Gilles
the problem that I have now is with ACTIVE FTP. I made PBR on the Loadbalancer. Passive FTP works either from the internet and from our internal network while Active FTP works only from the internet and doesn't work from our internal network. What we see is that the Loadbalancer sends the ftp-data packet out to the InternetVLAN (eg. VLAN 3605) and not to the VLAN 3603. I guess the problem is in my access-list. have you any Idea ??

  • FTP & Port Mapping?

Ok, I'm pretty new to wireless networking but I have a pretty good grasp of it all. I just have one question about Port Mapping and security. I have to open port 21 on Port Mapping in order for me to use FTP to upload files to my webspace. My question is how safe is it to leave that port open all the time? Or should I continue to close the port after everytime I upload? That's fine but it takes so long to update the Express with the new settings and reset. Kind of a pain.
Anyway, if anyone has an opinion or suggestion for this then it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the quick reply and information Henry!
Well, I guess I would be at minor risk since I don't have my OS X firewall enabled. I just figured that the Express was a better firewall. But if you start punching holes in the wall then it becomes less secure. Hmm.... I guess I would have to enable the OS X firewall then if I want to leave the port mapping enabled on the Express. And just enable FTP access through the OS X firewall when needed.
Of course I have good password protection on the FTP server but then again I would have the port wide open too.
Anyway.... thanks again for your help! It definitely helps me put things in order with what I need to do.

Thanks for your confirmation on no prob found in config level 1st..:P..as to save us a lot of time in isolating problem at this level.
What we can notice is seems the data port connection is fail to open  for server back to client....for our general sense..... the flow expected should be:
    TCP session A -- Client:1234 --> VIP:21 --> member svr:6370
    TCP session B -- Client: 5678 <--> VIP:20 <--> member Svr: 6379 [on demand generated between server/client]
but we can only see session B fail  to setup when client side access VIP site on CSS..even we try to put the most standard case as below
    TCP session A -- Client:1234 --> VIP:21 --> member svr:21
    TCP session B -- Client: 5678 <--> VIP:20 <--> member Svr: 20
we still unable to make the Active mode FTP access work either...hence we got no idea on how CSS handle FTP access when it involve services over multiple tcp ports..
and from CSS xlate view...the problem is we can only see what NAT IP that used in CSS connect to client...but no way to confirm for which port for VIP using outgoing to client. neither it is dropped by CSS..nor it is never setup from VIP to Client side.

  • FTP Server in FXP mode : PASV / Illegal PORT Command

    Hello,
In our workflow, we transfer the media files with the FTP protocol in mode FXP (server to server), the commands are initiated by an automation system.
This system work with the plateforms windows (serv-u), linux (vsftpd), osx (tnftpd) but it's impossible on a osx server (xftpd). The aim is to write file on our Xsan.
The error is an illegal PORT command, when the automation system sent the IP adress of the other server.
For test, If the IP adress of the destination server is the same that the automation server, the transfers are good, the PORT command is accepted.
But in our case, the ip adress, is a other server...
We can't to run the ftp server in FXP mode, and I do not want to install a Pureftp for to replace the tools included with osx server (and server admin).
I think that's is possible, because this workflow works on a osx after we have modify the ftpd.conf (checkportcmd off).
We not found in the file ftp access and nothing on the Internet, that's why I write on this board.
I need your help, anyone have a solution, it's really important ?
    Thank you very much.
    Franck

    Hello Franck,
I'm attempting the same thing.  Did you find a solution to your problem?

  • FTP server: PORT command not supported??

    Hi,
In a nutshell - we are trying to set up PASV -- PORT connection between a Tiger server (10.4.11) and another system (say it's a windows FTP server). Issuing a PORT command to a Tiger FTP server fails with this error:
    -> PORT 192,168,11,3,199,158
    <- 500 Invalid PORT command
I have done some research on the web and as far as I can see - this is just a feature that is disabled in Mac OS X ftp server.
What's strange is that "features" command states that PORT is supported.
Has anyone seen PORT command work for a Tiger Server ftp daemon?
Has anyone succeeded enabling this command on a Tiger server?
Can you recommend another FTP server that works well on a Tiger server?
    Thanks a million,
    Darius

Passive (PASV) and Port (PORT) mechanisms are orthagonal.
If you're working with PORT, then you're almost certainly trying to clear through one or more firewalls. And a firewall can also trigger the Illegal Port Command error for a PORT command.
(Though I don't see a PORT command in the Mac OS X ftp client. I've checked a couple of clients, and it isn't common to expose it.)
ftp is a mess. Insecure, difficult to configure, insecure, firewall unfriendly, insecure, and slow. And did I mention insecure?
(No, I'm not a big fan of ftp.)
    Some reading material:
    http://www.cert.org/techtips/ftp_portattacks.html
    http://www.slacksite.com/other/ftp.html
    http://cr.yp.to/ftp/security.html
As for a suggestion, chuck ftp and switch to sftp.

  • How-to Force Server Admin to resend Port Mapping to AEBS

Long time ago When I installed 10.6 server, my AEBS was configured automatically by the Server.
I just changed my AEBS with the dual-band version.
When I ask to the old AEBS to Extend the new wireless network, all setup were transferred (DHSP Reservation, Access Control, Password etc) from the old to the new, Except port Mapping.
I could do it manually but I was wondering if there is a way to force Server Admin to resend Port Mapping to the AEBS.
    Thank you

I should have thought of it sooner.
It just made one simple change to my firewall and all the rules/Port mapping were resent.

  • DMS - FTP Docs to FileZilla/Server (Download to FTP server path)

    Dear Experts,
I have a requirement to transfer files from SAP DMS to FTP Server (FileZilla/Global Scape).
How should I go ahead. I should be able to check out the document to FTP server path.
This should be done by the CV** transaction as well as a program.
Your valuables comments would greatly be appreciated.
    Regards
    Rahul

Here is the solution for those who are having similar requirement.
If you are not using the Knowledge Provider for storing and checking in original application files you can only store original application files in a vault that is managed by DMS. In Customizing of Document Management you must therefore in this case not set the indicator Storage using the Knowledge Provider . You have made the required setting under Control data Define document types.
Prerequisites for the Vault without DVA
The following table shows the settings you must make to set up a vault without DVA. In Customizing for theDocument Management System , choose General Data Define Data Carriers.
Activities for the Vault without DVA
    Step
    Activity
    Define data carrier type vault
Define vault (without specifying the DVA computer)
    Defines access path for vault
Define mount points / logical drive
Defines the prefix for the access path, for accessing the data carrier (logical drive)
Prerequisites for the Vault with DVA
The following table shows the settings you must define in Customizing for the Document Management System to set up a vault with DVA, by choosing General Data.
Activities for the Vault with DVA
    Step
    Activity
    Maintain global settings
Determines whether you want to use Direct Vault Access(DVA) to transfer original application files from a vault to the frontend computer.
    Define Data Carriers
    1. Define data carrier type vault
    2. Define vault (specifying the DVA computer)
    Define Number Ranges for Vaults
Check the number ranges for the vault
    Note
If you activate DVA in the global settings, you cannot store original files in vaults that are accessed via an application server.
    Features
When you save an original application file to a vault, the system generates a file name for it from an internal number range. This number range is predefined in the standard system.
The following graphic shows the data transfer procedure for an original application file. This graphic shows both the transfer of an original application file via an application server and direct transfer between frontend computer and vault.
    Activities
Go to the Basic Data screen .
Check whether the original file is stored on a server or a frontend computer.
You can only perform the Check-in vault function for files that are stored on a server or frontend computer.
Choose Extras Originals File 1(2) Check in vault.
A dialog box appears containing all the vaults defined in Customizing for the Document Management System under General Data Define Data Carriers.
    Choose a vault.
The system saves the original application file to the chosen vault using a number assigned from an internal number range.
You see the message: File checked in to vault <Vault name>.

  • Open port 21 for ftp in mac osx server 10.6

    Hello
I want to open port 21. The firewall in the mac server is already off.The ftp server is enabled in this mac server. The NAT in the router is set accordingly to the internal IP of this MAC computer (OS X Server 10.6). However, whenever I try http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/port-scan/ to check whether the port 21 is open or not, it still says that the port is closed.
    Any idea?
    Thanks a lot

well if your trying to connect to the host, without an active network port you could try connecting with localhost or 107.0.0.1. You could also try deleting the ethernet interface and re-adding it. And or hard coding the ethernet interface to static ip.

  • 10.3.9 problems with FTP server - port not open?

I have set up the ftp server in MacOSX Server 10.3.9 and I think the configuration is correct, but I am unable to access it from a client. When I check the open ports on the server from the client (running 10.4.10), ports 20 and 21 are not open, even though the firewall is not running. How do I open these ports, or start the server listening on them? The FTP server is running as far as Server Admin is concerned, although I have to say that I can't see a process in Activity Monitor with ftp in its name.

I think I might have got a bit farther with this problem, but this just gets me nearer to the problem, not to a solution.
When I stop the ftp service I get an error message in the console that says:
server servermgr_ftp: ftp config:Error:Unable to hup xinetd - pid file shows pid='(null)'
I believe that this means that Server Admin has tried to get xinetd to read its config file but since xinetd is not running (and hence no pid is available) it is unable to do this.
If I try and start xinetd from the terminal I get the following error message:
server xinetd[5484]: bind failed (Permission denied (errno = 13)). service = ftp
    server xinetd[5484]: 5484 {init_services} no services. Exiting...
I now know that xinetd is the process that (amongst other things) listens on port 20-21 for an attempt to establish an ftp session and then launches ftpd to service that connection. At least I think that is how it works! Or should work...
