Port oddity

Greetings,
Have an odd scenario where a public website pulls some images from another server via port 81. When our staff use the site they fail to get most images, but everything else loads correctly. I have tried unloading filters and it has no affect.
NW6.5 sp6 BM3.8 sp5_IR1
Those behind BM boxes are encouraged to try... Enter "wheel" in the search field and press "go". (none of these images appear for us)
Historic Artifacts and Library Documents
First in the results list is "Great Wheel", the image URL is: http://memorialhall.mass.edu:81/liza...id=283&hei=250
This site works fine outside of our building.
Any insight to this is appreciated.

I normally change one of the default settings on BMgr servers for
situations like this. In the Transport tab in the BMgr config
(NWADMN32 or iManager for 3.9) I change the 30 second timeout to 45
seconds to give proxy more time to make connections to slow web sites.

Thanks to all whom responded.
I discovered a solution for this issue while addressing a video streaming problem that recently surfaced for us. Turns out that solution helped this problem as well.
I found a small Non-Standard ports section in the Advanced topics chapter of Craigs book that discusses websites that redirect browsers to non-standard ports. He discusses allowing just the proxy's public interface access to the non-standard port.
I modified the rule to allow just the BM public interface access to port 81 and all the website images now appear.
Thanks Craig!

  • K9A2 Platinum esata port and Install and Usage of esata External Hard Drive

I just bought a sata hard drive and an icy dock enclosure for backup purposes. Having never used one before can someone explain how this works?
I have the hard drive in the enclosure, no problem there. I plugged it into the esata port on the back of my motherboard, but vista won't recognize it and when I reboot and go into the BIOS, I don't see it there either.  I have purchased Acronis True Image 11 Home for backup and mirroring purposes. I wish to mirror my existing internal drive to this new external drive.
    Questions:
    1. Can I use the esata ports on the motherboard for this drive, or should I use the PCI bracket and plug it into one of the existing sata ports on the motherboard? If esata port, exactly how do they work? Are there BIOS settings for the esata ports or do they operate more like a usb connection?
    2. Do I need to do anything with this drive before using it; format, install operating system...??
    3. Are the esata external drive considered plug and play or do I need to plug it in before I boot my computer.
    TIA.

Everything seems to be working as I would have expected at this point, with the exception of the size of the mirrored drives.
I decided to make another mirror onto the 3rd drive making all 3 drives identical. So now I would expect all three drives to show the same "GB free" while viewing with Vista explorer.  The odd thing is, is that which ever drive I make bootable - SATA5 port and becomes the C: drive,  shows 226GB free. The other drives, either as E: or J: will show as 268GB free.  Most be an Acronis or Acronis user (me) issue/oddity?
But bottom line, the sata and esata ports seem to be working as I would expect. Though plugging the external hard drive in before booting (power on or off, needs to be unplugged from the esata port) seems to hang at the FasTrack screen as described above.
My only guess to why this all seems to be working currently is that I don't think I ever had my bios set correctly. After enabling the onboard controller, having the drive actually plugged into SATA5, then rebooting, selecting boot sequence and selecting the raid drive as the first boot device. At least this is my recollection, I made so many bios changes previously that I thought I had it all covered.
Any thoughts?  I think I will try to get an answer on the Acronis size difference before I try to setup my RIAD 1, since that would require erasing two drives, per your instructions here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=113738.0
    Thanks for help once again.

  • Is the optical drive port on my logicboard dead?

    Hi all,
I'm running OS X 10.8.5 on a MacBook Pro 15" early-2011 with 16GB 1333MHz DDR3 and 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7. Apple states it only supports up to 8GB but I've been running 16GB for a few years and it works much better!
Additionally I replaced the optical drive many years ago with an OptiBay and a 1TB SSD, and use the main hard drive bay for a 2TB SATA. I would swap them (since the main drive bay has faster speeds) but the 2TB SATA is too thick to fit into the place of the optical bay. This has been working great and every year or so I upgrade a drive. I've been using this configuration for probably a year now and one day the SATA (in the location of the optical bay) stopped working.
I connected the SATA via USB and it works, so it's not the SATA drive. I replaced the OptiBay (which converts the optical port cable to SATA) and that did not resolve it. I then replaced the actual cable as well, and still no go. I tried putting the SSD in the optical bay and no go. Obviously the only thing left is the physical port on the logic board.
Has anyone ran into this? Any thoughts on resolving or what the problem is? I'm very comfortable working with the laptop and have even did SMD (hot air reflowing) of the GPU in the past on this.
ps, One thing that has been strange in the past is that at one point, the same port would *not* work with some drives but would work with others. I replaced the cable that connects from the logic board to the optical drive (or optibay in my configuration) and this resolved it, but the oddity was that it was only certain drives.
    Thanks!
    -samy

Your HDD or the internal connection cable may have failed.  If you have a HDD enclosure, take the internal HHD out and install it into the enclosure.  Use the original install disk and see if you can install the OS.  If not, the HDD is probably dead and will have to be replaced.  If it will accept the OS, then the internal cable is faulty and will have to be replaced.
    Ciao.

  • USB port asymmetry?

OK, this is a weird one. I've heard that the two USB ports on a MacBook Pro can be different with regard to data transfer rates, but this is another oddity
.When I plug my USB cable (with an adapter on the end) into the rear USB port to charge my phone, it works fine. When I plug the same cable into the front USB port, the machine turns off. Every time. My understanding is that this power-down is to protect the machine in the event of a detected short. OK, so I must have a short in that cable, sort of, maybe, and the USB ports on that machine somehow have different sensitivity to such shorts.
But then I try the same thing in another Mac Book Pro, and it does EXACTLY THE SAME THING.
This is, by the way, without the phone attached. Just the cable.
So there is evidence that this asymmetry is not just one machine, but a property of the machine architecture.
    Any explanations?

Probably better to ask this question to the MacBOOK Pro forum...  this is Mac Pro

  • HomeHub 5 - LAN Ports 'Ghost Device' when nothing ...

I just set up my new HomeHub 5 - when I log in to the admin pages and go to 'Advanced Settings' -> 'Home Network'
The info there tells me I have an unconnected 'Unknown Device' attached to port 'Lan 1'
I have one attached (and connected) device - plugged into Lan 3 - which has a different MAC addr.
But nothing at all is plugged into 'Lan 1' - can anyone shed any light on this for me?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks Keith - for the links, both are useful and there's some great info on your site.
Licquorice - I have never plugged anything into port 1 (I have literally just set the hub up) - BUT based on what you said this could be a device that was attached before the router was shipped - for testing or config purposes? Does that seem feasible?
I'm just trying to determine whether or not this 'oddity' is something I should be concerned about

  • HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 color M551dn - Optional USB Device port

Hi, I'm hoping to buy the optional wireless print server (HP Jetdirect 2700w USB Wireless Print Server J8026A). There is one problem though, the optional USB device port seems to not exist on my printer. I only notice that the USB logo is present where the port is supposed to be. The plastic in the area is squared off as though it is some sort of break away tab and the port is underneath maybe.
There is no reference to this in the manual anywhere and I am really unsure how to proceed. I don't want to damage anything.
If someone experienced with this model (preferably an HP Employee) can confirm the availability of the port and tell me how to access it (Is it a break away tab?). Part of the reason why I bought this printer is the optional Wireless N print server.
    Thank You in advance.

Thank You for your reply. The port you are talking about is the front panel port for walk-up usb printing and firmware upgrades. This port is indeed available on the higher end LaserJet 500 (NON-MFP, printer only edition) as I just used it to upgrade the firmware. The port I am talking about is the one on the left side in the ports section which you use to plug in the optional print server (not the computer I/O port).
This is shown in the official manual and the spec sheet so I'm 85% sure the port is there, hp can't advertise and mention something that is not available as this would be a big problem and make the 2700w print server incompatible when it clearly states that it is. I just need someone to confirm the availability and clear my confusion (either from HP, or another owner who bought the wireless print server 2700w).

  • Problem when we created the managed server to configure different ports.

I am trying to configure different ports for admin console and my communication service as we can’t share admin port to the outside world.
So that only admin can access admin console using admin port.
And out side clients can access my webapplication using different port.
For this i have created the managed server in weblogic.and I deployed the application on managed server.
Now admin server is running on 8001 port and my Communication Service application is running on 7001 port.
But when I tried to configure MBeans related to myCommunicationServiceApplication those were disapper on admin console. And the other wlng services are appearing on admin console.
    1. Since my application deployed on managed server MBeans registration happened from myapplication hence it’s disappear on admin console.
Now If I want to configure Mbeans (related to my communication service) how can I configure it?
    2. My communication service using configurationStore module and other wlng services.
When I tried to start my application on managed server I got the below error:
    <Apr 28, 2009 12:22:44 PM IST> <Error> <Deployer> <BEA-149231> <dscp11166.TechMahindra.com> <Unable to set the activation state to true for the application 'wlng_nt_qualcomm_active_mediation [Version=1.0]'.
com.bea.wlcp.wlng.api.storage.configuration.ConfigurationException: Configuration store module is not available.
    3. I tried to target all wlngResources to manged server by editing config.xml file.
Then all wlng services disappears on admin console. If this is the case how can I configure container/account services on wlng?
I have created the Basicweblogic domain.
Below is the config.xml for reference.
    "QualcommServer" is managed server name.
Can any one please suggest me how to configure this kind of scenarios?

  • Does the mini DVI port cary audio if using a Mini-DVI to HDMI Adapter?

    Hello everyone,
I've heard it is possible for a DVI port to transmit audio data to a HDMI connection if a DVI to HDMI cable is used, which will allow the sending of both audio and video to your TV. see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DigitalVisualInterface
I'm assuming this is not possible using apples mini DVI port, but just wanted to check to make sure. My main goal is to get surround sound out of my powerbook. To do this by simply adding a Mini-DVI to HDMI Adapter would be GREAT!

    Hi Jonathan,
I'm assuming this is not possible using apples mini DVI port
Yup, no audio, unfortunately. The audio will have to transmitted separately via the analog audio output.

  • Mini-DVI port not working: wear and tear?

I had been happily using the mini-DVI port to play content on TV, using a DVI to Video adapter : plugging and unplugging probably twice a week.
Now it seems to have stopped, abruptly: no signal at all is reaching the TV. (Adapter still works fine on my MacBook.)
What are the chances of wear and tear damaging the DVI port? Is this a complicated fix? Any other thoughts? No recent upgrades or updates.
"About this Mac" reckons it's mirroring fine, so it feels like a hardware thing. Many thanks in advance.

    Hello ewfelton
It is very possible that the DVI port on the iMac has been damaged from wear and tear, as it's harder to get at than the MacBook.
I would disconnect everything from the iMac, grab a clean towel and turn it face down on the desk. Then with a magnifying glass and light inspect the DVI port for a broken or bent pin. In the process of inspecting the port your SMC will also be reset, follow the instruction for "How to reset the System Management Controller" when your done.
If the port seems OK and the SMC reset doesn't get it going use Disk Utility to Repair Disk Premissions and try it again.
Your local Apple Store or local Apple Service Provider can replace a bad or damaged DVI port.

  • Mini dvi to vga adapter doesn't fit Mac Book port

I bought a "mini dvi to vga" adapter at the local Apple store at the mall and it does not fit the mini DVI connection on my Mac Book. What is the correct mini dvi configuration or part number for the Mac Book Mini dvi port?

It may be. I threw the bag out so I can't check. I was in a hurry and thought I picked up the right adapter but guess not.
Thanks for your help. Know anyone that needs a mini vga to vga adapter?

  • How can I connect my 3gen apple tv with HDMI to my bush LCD32TV022HD which does not have an HDMI port but does have 1)S-Video I/P, 2)Video I/P, 3) L

How can I connect my 3gen apple tv with HDMI to my BUSH LCD32TV022HD
This does not have an HDMI port but does have:-
    1) S-Video I/P,
    2) Video I/P,
    3) Audio Input (Left & Right)
    4) Audio In jack (for VGA and DVI source)
    5) DVI input
    6) VGA input

    Welcome to the Apple community.
The Apple TV doesn't officially support a DVI connection, however you may be able to get it to work. You will first need to check that your TV supports either 720p or 1080p as well as HDCP. If you are able to get the video working over the DVI connection, you may also require a DAC in order to connect with Apple TV's optical audio output to the TVs audio imput.
You may well wish to make sure that the DVI connection works before spending any money on a DAC..

  • What do I need to connect my late 2009 Mac book (mini display port) to the TV and get sound?

    I'm totally confused!
I have a late 2009 model Macbook. And I want to connect it to my TV.
So my research has led to believing I need a Mini display port adapter and a HDMI cable - but from some of what I have read, this won't carry sound...
Can anyone clarify this and what I do actually need?

The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with theHDMI.
If you have the Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the MiniDisplay Port there is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

  • How to connect an older MacBook Pro with mini VGA port to HDMI?

I have an older MacBook Pro with a female mini VGA port.  I would like to watch movies which have been downloaded to my laptop on my flat screen TV.  Newer MacBook Pros have a mini DisplayPort for which Belkin makes a cable to use; however, I have not been successful in finding either an adapter or converter to use with my older laptop.
FYI.  Am currently using Leopard but am upgrading to Snow Leopard.

I believe you naeed the Apple ADC to DVI adapter.

    Hall Palm Desert,
if your Mac monitor has Thunderbolt ports, and the PC monitor is on the end of the daisy chain, then you might be able to do it by connecting your PC monitor’s VGA cable to a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter (e.g. Apple, NewerTech), connecting that cable’s Mini DisplayPort end to one of the Mac monitor’s Thunderbolt ports, and then connecting a Thunderbolt cable between the other port on the Mac monitor and your MacBook Pro.

  • Hi, I have an iMac running Mavericks that I am trying to hook up an older HDTV as a second HD monitor through the minidisplay port to component 3 color RCA.  HDMI is not an option with this set.  I have SD working, but need to find a HD conversion set up.

Presently I have a mini display port>VGA adaptor, running to a convertor box I picked up that handles S-video out, which is working fine for SD.  I also have a VGA to Component Video (5 wire RCA) adaptor cable.  Connecting Component adaptor dircetly to the mini display adaptor doesn't seem to work, neither does plugging it into a VGA port on the SD convertor box.  I am guessing there is another convertor box out there that will help me make the transition from mini display to Component.  Even if it means having a handful of adaptors plugged in.  does anyone know where to find such a wonderful and magical device?
    Thanks

Your setup works fine for DV, because you used a DV deck and most likely DV footage. But now you are working with 720p HD footage (what format, BTW? HDV, dvcpro HD?). That same setup won't work for monitoring HD. Now you need an HD box or card to send out a proper HD signal. And since you have an older G5, you won't find any current solutions. You'll have to look at used capture cards that are PCIx. Or you and look at the Matrox MXO, that connects to the computer via a monitor connection. DVI.
