Port Problem in ATA Box

Hi there,
I'm having a problem with one port in an ATA Box, I can receive calls properly from any internal and external phone but when I try to call from the phone connected to port 2 in my ATA I get a busy line signal but the line is available. The problem occurs just in port 2 because when I try the same from port 1 it works well. I've configured the ATA from the beggining and also copied the configuration from another that is working and still same. Any idea?
Thanks a lot for your help!

Hello Fedex/pharden,
What pharden said is correct, to be more accurate it is documented here:
ATA 186 3.2 Admin guide
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cata/186_188/3_0/english/administration/guide/sccp/sccpaape.html#wp1061348
The problem:
So basically when the ATA186 is configured on CCM to use G729 it can only support one g729 call, and the other port will use G711 always no matter what we do (that is due to the ATA DSP capabilities), what we can tweak is which port will be affected by this behavior by changing the LBRcodec parameter, clearly this will not solve the problem - only change which port will be affected - but at least it will help you out to understand the situation better.
Now why the ATA is using G729? which is basically what is causing this due to the ATA limitation explained above. There might be a diferent number of reasons, maybe because the ATA is on a remote site where the bandwidth savings of the G729 codec are benign but in the other hand causes this problem.
The Solution:
There are 2 possible:
1- Make sure that the ATA devices have a hardware XCODER available on the Media Resource Group List (as of now MRGL), the fact that you get a fast busy is due to a codec issue (the second port supports only G711 and the gateway probably only supports G729 or the Region configuration says that between the ATA and the GW only G729 should be used).
So if a transcoder is available it will be use to XCODE and the second port will work as well, make sure to do update/reset on the second port once you assign the proper MRGL.
2- The solution is to use G711ulaw on the second port always (once again there might be a reason to use G729 on both ports of the ATA and if you are not willing to use G711 on the second port then don't bother reading the rest of the post), how do we change this?
As you probably know each port shows up on CCM as different devices (different MAC addresses) when you do a search for devices.
Look at the Device Pool assigned to both ports, most likely they are under the same Device Pool (as of now referred as DP), this DP has a region assigned (on the DP config on CCM), the region pretty much says wich codec will be used, between devices on this region and devices on another region.
Look for the Voice Gateway on CCM where the calls are being sent out to the PSTN, then look for the DP, take note of that DP, look for the config of that DP and check the region assigned to that DP.
Now its time to compare, the region of the DP where the second port is assigned and the region of the DP where the Gateway is assigned.
You will need to make sure that the regions talk one to the other G711, if they don't - which I bet is the current situation - change it so that both talk G711 one to another.
Keep in mind that this will affect all the devices on that DP (because the same region is assigned to this DP) and probably some other IP phones are on this same DP, so if you do not want to affect the other devices, create a new DP with a new region and ensure that the new region and the region of the GW talk G711.
If the Voice gateway is MGCP you should be done by now and calls from the second port will work just fine.
If the Gateway is H323 or SIP you will need to define the inbound voip dial peer, and add a voice-class so that it supports G711 besides G729
Both ATA ports on CCM should be assigned to
device is assigned on CCM to a Device Pool
Hope that this helps!

  • How can I connect my iPad to a TV that only has an s-video input available but also has a usb port on the satellite box available.

I would like to connect my iPad to my older TV but the only inputs available are the s-video input port on the TV itself and there is also a USB input port on the satellite box that feeds the TV. I could also split all the RCA jacks to accomodate another input here. Thanks in advance for any and all help with this problem of mine..............RR.

There is no s-video cable available for any iPad.
The USB port on the cable box is for maintenance use only.

  • No dial tone through SPA112 ATA box

I can't get my analgue phone to work thru the Cisco SPA112 ATA box - problem has been ongoing for 2.5 months now.
My ISP can access the ATA through their network and assure me everything is configured and working correctly.
My wireless (wimax) internet connection works fine.
My phone used to work thru the ATA box, but I have had no dialling tone since it suddenly stopped working in early Oct. 2014.
I've tested my phone & cables on a BT land line - cables and phone all work on a land line.
My ISP provided a replacement ATA box - I still get the same problem of no dial tone on my phone via the ATA.
I've also taken my ATA box & phone setup to my parents' house to test setup and equipment on mains power & their land line broadband connection -  I still could not get a dialling tone.
My ISP is adamant the problem is with my phone and/or home power system, and not with the VOIP set they are providing me.
(NOTE: I live off grid - the house power is provided from a 12 V battery bank through a 230V true sine wave inverter.)
I've just bought a new mains powered Binatone phone & I still get no dialling tone, nor can I make or receive calls.
Since my ISP has given up on me and blaming my home power supply and/or phones, can someone please advise me if the problem might lie with:
    1) My phones
    2) the SPA112 ATA box
    3) My VOIP configuration
The problem has become exasperating - and I need a working phone for reliable communications. Going back to BT is NOT an option since I still have to wait an unspecified period of time to get a broadband service via BT or any other provider.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

One easy way to test if your device is working is to register for a free voip service. Here is a list http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Free+VoIP+Networks .
That will allow you to test with a different provider and credentials.  be aware the free service is frequently limited to making calls on that providers network, but it should allow you to make a call.
You can update the firmware on your ATA to the latest.  Download the latest here https://software.cisco.com/portal/pub/download/portal/select.html?&mdfid=283998771&flowid=30521&softwareid=282463187
What does it say for the status of line 1 on the information page of the GUI? registered/failed?  if it says registered, you should get dial tone.  if it has failed, your credentials or network connection may be incorrectly configured.
You can test your analog phone set by finding a friend who has an analog phone line and taking it there, or
plug your analog phone into line 1 and hit 4 stars ( **** ) you should get a voice menu.  Hit 110 to have it read the IP address of the device.  This will let you know if the phone is working (at least basically)
If you are still under warranty, you could call into the small business support center, we could try  a couple things.
We could use your credentials on one of our test devices here to see if your provider settings work.  If not we can help you follow up with your provider.
Here is the small biz support numbers:

My TV is mounted on a wall so I can't connect the Apple TV device. Is it possible to connect to an HD Cable Box and send signal to TV that way? Other problem is that Box only has one HDMI socket so would also have to use a splitter. Tried Apple Support but couldn't offer a solution. I can't be the only person with this issue surely?
    Help!

No, unless you are using a home theatre system already, your only option is to connect to the TV.

There is no issue with the 2 USB 2.0 ports.
    I have bios 3.0, win 7 64bit home premium.
Few other people have address the same problem here before but I didn't see any solution.

  • Z68A-GD80 G3 rear audio port problem

Just built his system a couple of weeks ago. My first build. When I first started the system, I was using the integrated graphics. I had my speakers plugged into the green audio jack on the MB, and it worked fine. Used it like this for a couple of days while transferring programs, photos, etc. I was never able to get the HDMI port working to set up both monitors, so I removed the graphic card from my old computer (GE Force 210), installed it in the new computer and installed the NVIDIA drivers for it. This got both monitors working, but then I found the sound was not working. I tried connecting the speakers to the surround sound ports and they worked, but at a very low volume. I finally connected the speakers to the front speaker port. This works but the sound quality is not very good. I get random? static noises.
I had it this way for a few days while I tried to troubleshoot the problem. It seemed like the problem started after installing the graphic card and drivers, so I removed them and tried it again. Still the rear speaker port did not work. Also, at this time I tried to get the dual monitor setup working again. I had found that the IGD multi-monitor setting was disabled, and assumed that was why I could not get both monitors working the first time around. After enabling this setting, still could not get both monitors working. No HDMI.  I am really not too concerned about this, as I plan to get a better graphic card, but thought that it might be related to the audio port problem.
I believe there is a newer version of BIOS, but I am not sure if that is something that I want to tackle. Does anyone have any ideas of what could cause this? Thanks.
    Monty

Not real sure of this since I haven't been personally involved in it, but the HDMI problem could be related to a cable issue? HDMI 1.4 versus older types? Monitor v1.4 compliant, etc.?
A battery removed CMOS clear & reset may be of help. It's worth a try. If the sound was clear & worked normal before, I doubt a UEFI/BIOS update would be of benefit. Something hardware related, drivers, or the way the OS is responding are my guesses for the sound problem & static.
A corruption in Windows is always a possibility. Doing a fresh install of the OS may help. Maybe before that extreme, using a utility like driver sweeper to get a fresh start with the audio drivers. Presume the speaker system is a self powered unit?

  • Ata 186 second port problem

    Hello
There are a atas186 who was registered to a CUCM version 6.1,the call manager was migrated to version 8.6 but now the second por when a call is answered immediately when give a fast busy tone, the first port works perfect, and i have changed many parameters and did a factory reset without success.
    S/W Version 3.02.04(090202A)
    App Load ID ATA030204SCCP090202A
    Thanks.

Your ata´s place calls  across the wan?
If yes, the the ata 186, only support one port in g729 codec the port 0, the second port works only in g711 codec so try to configure a region to place calls only in g711 codec across the wan and problem solve
    i hope it helps...

  • Solve this and you're a genious: Port problems with SRW2016

    Equipment:
One SRW2016 fresh out of the box and set to factory default settings
One Dell Laptop running Windows XP
One custom network appliance running a full TCP/IP stack but limited to 10M half duplex.
    Setup:
The laptop has a static IP address. The network appliance has a static IP address. The switch has the factory default static IP address.  All three devices are on the same subnet.
The laptop is plugged into port 1 on the switch, and the network appliance is plugged into various ports as described below.  The laptop is set to continuously ping the network appliance using the ping –t command.
    Problem:
When the network appliance is plugged into switch port 2 I am unable to ping the device from the laptop.  When I plug it into port 3 I get the same result.  In fact I am unable to ping the network appliance on any of the switch ports EXCEPT for ports 7, 8, 15, and 16.  As soon as I plug the network appliance into any one of those four ports, the pings are replied to.
My question is - why am I unable to communicate with the network appliance on any ports other then ports 7, 8, 15, and 16? What makes these four ports different then the others?
    Other Notes:
I have a second Linksys SRW2016 and notice the exact same behavior.
I’ve also tried a Linksys SLM2008 8-Port switch and experience NO communication problems on any ports.
I’ve tried a hub and it works 100%
I notice that after trying to ping the network appliance on a non-working port, I can see the device properly listed in the ARP table on both the switch AND laptop. So I am unable to ping the device yet it somehow makes it into the ARP table.
Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Rob

    Hi,
Thanks for explanation that not all ports are the same.
I've just had a similar issue with a Siemens C470IP ip phone. It worked fine with my Dlink 8-port DES3010F switch which I've just replaced with the SRW2016, and also when plugged into my Draytek 2820n ADSL router's LAN ports. I'm a bit disappointed that I happened to plug the device into port 3 and suddenly my monitoring showed that things were not working properly. I checked cables and then remembered that auto-negotiation sometimes can cause problems.
On the SRW2016 if I leave the port with auto-negotiate on I see:
                                  Flow
    Port   Enable   Link  Spd/Dpx Ctrl
    g3      ENABLE   UP    10H     Off
Yet inspite this pinging the device does not work properly. That is I get from ping:
    64 bytes from 192.168.0.36: icmp_seq=431 ttl=128 time=7.357 ms
    Request timeout for icmp_seq 432
    64 bytes from 192.168.0.36: icmp_seq=433 ttl=128 time=8.956 ms
    Request timeout for icmp_seq 434
    64 bytes from 192.168.0.36: icmp_seq=435 ttl=128 time=5.920 ms

    Request timeout for icmp_seq 442
    Request timeout for icmp_seq 443
    Request timeout for icmp_seq 444
    Request timeout for icmp_seq 445
Doing the explicit configuration of 10Mb Half duplex as suggested does not help either. In fact it's worse as I get no responses from a ping and it does not make any difference if I enable flow control or not.
So must be the Siemens device? Well plugging into port 16 as suggested makes all the difference:
Auto negotiation works and the link comes up and works fine:
    That is:
                    Auto          Flow
      Port   Enable  Neg.  Spd/Dpx Ctrl
    g13      ENABLE   On   Auto    Off
    g14      ENABLE   On   Auto    Off
    g15      ENABLE   On   Auto    Off
    g16      ENABLE   On   Auto    Off
    and
                                    Flow
      Port   Enable   Link  Spd/Dpx Ctrl
      g14     ENABLE   DOWN  -----   ---
    g15     ENABLE   DOWN  -----   ---
    g16     ENABLE   UP    10H     Off
and ping shows what I expect:

So why is this broken? Is it a firmware issue or a hardware issue?  The firmware I'm using is I believe the latest though it looks rather old:
      Boot Version:          1.0.1 (Date:  11-Jun-2006, Time:  18:43:59)
      Software Version:      1.2.2b (Date:  28-Feb-2008, Time:  16:47:37)
      Hardware Version:      00.03.00
If this affects me it's likely to affect others and I really wanted to buy the switch to add to the number of "managed ports" I have. This current behaviour is rather disappointing and I would have hoped that perhaps a firmware upgrade would solve this, or the documentation would be clearer that some devices do not work properly (auto-negotiation seems to be rather a troublesome subject).  Is such a fix available?

  • Problem with one box

One box in my house is not getting all channels and other channels are digitized. All other boxes are fine. Rebooting does not help. Ideas?

Could be a problem with the connection. Make sure everything is tight both at box and at splitter.
If that doesn't help, swap the boxes around. If problem follws, you have a bad box, if not, still a problem with that coax run. Could also try swapping ports on the splitter.
