Port Problems Importing Video to iMovie?

I'm downloading video from an HDVideo Camera via firewire into iMovie, but don't have a port avail for my external hard drive to save the files on.
My only Save To option in the import options on iMovie is "No Value".  Could this be because I don't have enough space left to import, and have no external drive attached?

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use iMovie. There's an iMovie Support Community where everybody uses iMovie. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer. https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/imovie

  • Problem importing video to imovie

My macbook has imported still pictures from my Panasonic SDR-S50 camcorder but won't do the videos. It doesn't seem to see they are there. Any suggestions?? Thanks

That's not correct, as I have created several music vids in iMovie, and posted them on YT by editing video clips that I have ripped from other sources.
The error message has just popped up, and may be the result of a plug in, butr I'm not sure how to correct it.

  • Imported video into iMovie but has no audio

Imported video into IMovie has the video but no audio. I did recently upgrade to OS lion and earlier video imports from snow leopard is fine

I too have this problem, I cannot get any audio in my imported movies, this was not a problem two weeks ago, can anyone help me?

  • Importing video in imovie is jumpy!

When I import video into imovie the video gets jumpy. I play it while I try to edit and the film jumps around. It is like the film is missing milliseconds of the video. Does anyone have any idea about this or ever have this kind of trouble?

I've had the same problems using imovie '08 but it is infrequent and has only happened when importing certain analog not digital video tapes. I can watch the video flowing without interuption on the camcorder but intermitantly the actual imported film hangs up with intermitant breaks in the recording process with as you say milliseconds lost. I have tried closing all other programs for fear they may be interupting without success. And as I said it has only happened a few times , only with analog manual imports and the extent of the footage lost is variable.... Any suggestions????

Thanks for the reply with additional details.
In order to help you with the Elements Organizer 13 and Premiere Elements 13 issues, we need details of that video from iMovie.
You should be able to get the important details of the iMovie video by telling us the export settings that you used for the iMovie export.
    Minimum information..
    Video Compression
    Audio Compression
    File Extension
    Frame Size
First, update Premiere Elements 13 and Elements Organizer 13 each to the 13.1 Update (See Help Menu/Update in an opened
    Premiere Elements 13 project.)
We will be watching for further details in order to plan and carry out troubleshooting strategy.
    Thank you.

When i was trying import video to IMovie, iMovie told me "Error during Import" so how i understand, first i need to convert them??!!!! but for what format is better i don't know???? because i don't what to lost high quality and Large-format video. And which converter i should to use??!!!
Thank you so much in advance for any help if you can give me!
    PS: I have iMovieHD 6.0.3 (267.2)

If you can the video clips onto your computer you can use mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.

  • Sync and frame rate problems importing video to Flash CS3

Just like the subject states, I am indeed having frame rate problems importing video to Flash CS3.
When I export a video from Premiere with the settings:
    1280x720
    frame rate of 23.976
using H264 or Animation (basically every codec produces the same results),
"embed video on SWF and play in timeline"
When I do this the file exports fine. Playing it in Quicktime works fine and the audio syncs up no problem. But when I import it into Flash using the same settings, for some reason the movie clip is now too fast in that the video does not match the audio and seems to be at more like 12 fps now (just a guestimate). The action of the video is over long before the audio even comes in.I have verified that the frame rate is correct in Flash so it's not that.
I've done this literally hundreds of times in the past and suddenly it does not work and I can not figure out why. I'm not even really using video, but actually artwork that I am putting together as an animatic for an animated piece so the video could not have been imported incorrectly or digitized wrong either. Can someone out there please tell me how to make this work? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    -Mike

Thanks for you quick response however it really doesn't apply to what I am doing in any way. I will not be uploading the video to a server. I am using the imbed function so I can use it as a layer and then animate over it. It is just reference and will ultimately be deleted. The Fla file does indeed carry the same specs as I stated in my first post. I have done it this way dozens of times and I am trying to figure out why it suddenly will not work.

  • Importing Video into iMovie using Mac the Ripper

How do I import video into iMovie using Mac the Ripper? I ripped the video content onto my computer but it was not converted into a file that I can import.

I think it's trend for all users since we can get more funny from digital life. Also it's necessary sometimes for us to save our video or dvd files with other methods, i have no idea but use something like converters. To my experience, mactheripper is not what you want, maybe you can try this dvd ripper for mac.Maybe ripper is illegal, but i just get my oringinal files, and i want to do more with it, that's just it!

  • Problem importing video from a DV camera into the new imovie 10.0?  I have a Sony DCR TRV17 connected via Firewire port that worked in 9.0.9 but not under 10.0...

I have a Sony DCR TRV17 that I used to pass through VCR tape video via Firewire port to my Mac Pro under Imovie 9.0.9 without an issue.   Now under Imovie 10.0 the video shows in the import window, I can start recording yet when I stop recording the recorded clips do not show up anywhere.  The movie file I'm creating still indicates that I still need to import video.   Anyone having similar problems?

    Hey Dave,
I had this issue only once before but was lucky enought to find it was a specific event causing the import to freeze. It took me some time to isolate the problem though. I would recommend letting it sit there for some time before you try any troubleshooting. Larger libraries can take long periods of time to update.
This is a good thread for this issue.  I would first try removing the iMovie.plist as elikness mentions.
    1. Open Finder
    2. Click on "Go" in the menu bar.
    3. Click on Go To Folder on the dropdown menu.
    4. Type "~/Library/Preferences/" in the text field and click Go.
    5. Find the com.apple.iMovie(some number).plist file and move it to Trash.
Quit and relaunch iMovie to see if this took care of the issue before attempting the next step. If you're still having an issue then you can try what I needed to do which is isolating the problem event.
    1. Open Finder.
    2. Go to the Movies folder. You should see iMovie Events here.
If you have a larger event library I'd recommend renaming the iMovie Events folder to say, "iMovie Events COPY". Then create a new empty folder named “iMovie Events”. When you launch iMovie 9.0.9 all events will be missing at this point. Quit iMovie if it is open. Then you can either drag each event from iMovie Events COPY to iMovie Events or you can select and drag several at a time. Each time you drag an event folder back into the new iMovie Events folder launch iMovie 9.0.9 to see if you are having the same issue. Wash and repeat until either you have found the problem event or you have imported all events.
If you find the problem event you can reimport the clip from iMovie 9.0.9 by going to File > Import > Movies and navigating to that events iMovie Original Movies folder to find the clip.
    Hope this helps!

  • Problems with importing video to imovie

I have a Sony Camorder and i'm having issues with importing video files to my Macbook. The message I'm receive is:

  • Problem importing video footage on to iMovie

I have just bought a Sanyo Xacti camcorder and have just imported my first videos on to the Macbook. Weirdly, only about 40% of the product seems to have been imported, ie. if a piece of film lasts 40 seconds on the Sanyo only 18 seconds is imported on to the Macbook.
Strangely, this is not the case if I use iphoto, where the entire film seems to be imported.
Help! Any ideas why imovie is not importing the full video recordings?

I have similar problem importing from Sony camcorder to iMovie9. Four short videos are on the camera, but only the last one imported. I use Import All, but the other videos still don't show in iMovie, so I also can't see them to manually select them. Should have enough processing speed. Also, have plenty of memory. Any ideas?

  • TS3634 Help, how to importing video in iMovie'11

I am using the Sony Handycam HDR-HC 9
    OS X 10.8.4, MacBoo Pro early 2011
    iMovie'11
I want to import the video shot with the Handycam into iMovie. The cable I am using is iLink to FireWire 800.
When I put the camera mode in to edit/play and I plug in the cable I excpected to be able to import the HDV into the iMovie.
It does not work, and I must say not any more.
About 6 months ago I did import  video from the same camera to the sam iMovie Aplication on the same MacBook Pro
I could chose the import from and select the Handi cam etc. and I cpuld control from iMovie the handycam.
Recvently I wanted to import clips from the camera to my computer again and I was unableto do so.
In the iMovie app. I am unable to select the camera, in the view finder of the camera it only shows HDV in when I plug in the iLink cable.
The omly thing that has changed in the last 7 months since i last imported movie clips is OSX updates and iLive updates.
    could this be the reason?
If so how can I correct this and import clips again from the camera.
Will realy appreciated if anybody can help me solve this problem.
    Thank you.

    Ok
I tried that but no go.
In the handy cam viewer as soon as I plug in the cabe it shows HDV out iLink and immediatly changes to HDV in iLink. I assume that the cable is right than.
I have no possiblety jet to check the cable but it is only 6 months old and not used much.
The port on the MacBook pro is ok I used a firewire 800 external drive and it shows up an I can browse the disk.
    Regards

  • Importing videos to iMovie issue

Recently, when I import videos from my SD card, from my camera, to iMovie on my MacBook Pro (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5), the videos that show up don't have the sound waves on the bottom but they still have audible sound. However, it makes editing this videos harder since I can't see the waves and where the audio ends in case I want to attach another clip right after it. Other times, the video I import just has no sound, no visible sound waves, has a flat red line on the top, and is just a random still frame that lasts for less than a second. And other times, the video I import is a cut off section of the original video. For example, I may import a 30 second video but I get 15 seconds of a random section of that video.
I'm quite sure it has nothing to do with the SD card or my camera since I have used other SD cards and it has also had the same problems.
This whole issue only started a couple months ago and I already had my laptop for more than half a year and it has worked perfectly before.
Is there some update I should get for iMovie? I'm not exactly sure what version it is, but it should be iMovie '11.
It's all really frustrating as I have to refilm whatever I filmed and it doesn't work multiple times. And after spending 8 hours on it one time, I imported it one last time and everything was perfect. Sound waves were visible, sound was there, full clips, everything.
    Super frustrating.
