Port refuses to go active on 5508

We are installing a new 5508 but the management port refuses to go active on the network. It's a new box and just has a base configuration which appears to be identical to a second new box which is working (other than name an IP address). The only difference between the two is the box that is not working uising a 1000BaseSX SFP and the one that is working is using a 1000BaseTX SFP. Looking at the other box through our WCS there is an option to set the physical mode to Full Duplex 1000sx Mbps or Full Duplex 1000 but via the CLI there don't seem to be any port level commands other than enable/disable. Any suggestions?

Found the issue. There was a faulty fibre in the cabinet.

MacBook Pro headphone port refuses to recognise headphones

Since doing a clean install of Mavericks (which solved a ReportCrash loop problem), everything has been fine except...
for some reason the 3.5mm headphone port refuses to acknowledge the existence of headphones when plugged in. The internal speakers do not cut out. No sound comes through the headphones.
If I go into Systems Preferences/Sound/Output there is no option for headphones sound, just internal speakers.
I have tried everything (deleting .plist files and rebooting, booting in safe mode, PRAM resets etc etc). I have also tried various sets of headphones (mono, stereo and three ring headphone plugs). They all don't work on my MacBook Pro, they all do work (and make the internal speakers cut out) on my MacBook Air. It's not the headphones.
The port will happily recognise, charge and download my iPod nano.
I am convinced this is an OS problem, as the port has not suffered any shocks, and it happened directly after a clean Mavericks install. It was working fine on Mavericks before the clean install.
I'd really rather not go through the pain of another clean install, especially if this is a known issue (though I can't find any reference to exactly the same problem).
Any thoughts/suggestions?

Duh... sorry please ignore the note about it charging my ipod nano. That was the result of a very tired brain. Of course the nano is charged via USB. The rest of the post still stands, though. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks. N

Porting a number after activation

I bought an iphoone, but am not positive it will work everywhere I need it to work in rural Maine. ATT says it will, but I will have to check.
Anyway, for that reason, I did not port my old number from US Cellular when I activated the phone. Does anyone know if I can do that in say two or three weeks once I am satisfied that the iphone does what I need?

You most certainly can, but this will require calling at&t to handle this for you at that time. You can't do this yourself thru iTunes with an iPhone already activated with another number.

Are LAN ports on Airport Extreme active when used to extend WiFi network?

I am thinking of buying an Airport Extreme to wirelessly extend the dual-band WiFi network from my Time Capsule. In this scenario, with the Extreme configured as a bridge, would I be able to use the LAN ports on the Extreme to join some AV kit to the network?

Iron Port S370 Hard Drive activity lights

Hi
We have a S370 Iron port and one of the hard disk light Flash green twice and the 3rd time it goes amber. What doe sit mean!! please help. All our other Iron ports hard disk lights flash green.
How can we check? Please advice.

The hard drive is failing. Call TAC and get it replaced.
(PS. its a Dell server, so any hardware troubleshooting, their docs are applicable.)

USB ports refuse to work

I just set up my new iMac (Intel-based), version 10.5.8 (originally; after the customer support woman had me re-install the software, it shows as 10.5.6, but I am currently running software updates). It's great... except for the fact that I simply cannot use the USB ports. The only devices that work (and by work, I mean are even detected) via USB are the mouse and keyboard which came with the computer; nothing else works, including iPods. I have checked with the About this Mac, and have even run the USB Prober (belonging to the XCode developer tools), all to no avail. I have tried every single port, have reset the PRAM and NVRAM, and have re-installed the initial software. The problem is not with the ports themselves, it seems, because I can plug and play for the mouse/keyboard on any one; it's not the devices which I am trying either, since those work on my brother's MacBook Pro, and re-installing the software should have fixed any possible bugs there. I am out of ideas. I have done everything that customer support has suggested; the next step is taking it into an Apple Store to be looked at. However, I would like to use that as my last resort, since I am living in Spain (though the computer was bought in the US). This is incredibly frustrating, since it's brand spankin' new. The only time it has ever been opened was at the Apple Store (in the US) to transfer data from my old PC to this iMac, to set it up a little. Please help!

I have winbindd.service enabled, i couldn't connect to samba without it and it's not mentioned on the wiki.

One or two LAG port-channel for 5508 v7.4 in HA setup?

I have a question regarding LAG in HA setup; do you configure two port-channel, one for each controller or, only one port-channel for both?
I have a stack of 3 x 3750x, and 2 x 5508 with each two Gigabit uplink in use.
Active controler (5508-1) is connected to stack switch 1 and stack switch 2.
Standby controller (5508-2) is connected to stack switch 2 and stack switch 3.
I cannot find any documentation or guidelines for configurations of LAG in HA setup.
P.S. my question is not how to configure LAG or LACP, it only if you use one port-channel consist of 4 gigabit ports, or you have two with each 2 gigabit port to each controller.

The switch doesn’t see which of the two port-channel that is on the active controller right?
If WLC01 is the active one in PO1 and standby is WLC02 in PO2, the MAC of the active controller (WLC01) will be sending on PO1.
When failover to standby, the MAC of WLC02 will be sending on PO2. As I see it, it is same IP address (management IP address of WLC01) but different MAC address – from WLC02.
So why could it not be one Port-channel, both controller will use one and same config when it become active?

HTTPS port not activated on non-central Advanced Adapter Engine

Hello,
we have upgraded our non-central adapter engine from XI 3.0 to 7.1 EHP1.
Before, we were using port 58201 (5<InstanceID>01) for HTTPS and it was working fine. On the new system, the port 58201 isn't active, which I've checked with 'telnet <host> 58201'.
On XI 3.0, the port could be configured in the Visual Admin -> SSL Provider, but I don't find the corresponding setting in NWA.
I've already checked miscellaneous SAP notes (856597, 891877,...), HowTo-Guides and Blogs, but didn't find any hint...
Any idea, where I could edit the HTTPS port in NWA of the non-central adapter engine?

I didn't get access to ExchangeProfile over URL http://<host>:<port>/exchangeProfile and didn't find the settings in NWA.
Reason was the missing CryptoLibrary as discribed on http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi711/helpdata/en/f1/2de3be0382df45a398d3f9fb86a36a/frameset.htm

WLC 5508 Distribution Ports

Dear Community,
i have a small Q that should we configure any of distribution port of WLC 5508 with speed 10/100 to connect it with cisco's 3750 on fastethernet port.
By default WLC ports are gig ports so is there any comand or option to configure the port by decreasing its speedin wlc.
OR
could we connect them in the same status like wlc gig port wit switch 3750 fastethernet port and there will not any speed mismatch and it will work fine.Honestly on my behalf it will not work like this.
please advise what is the best practice to do that.

Airport Express in existing network: need active Etrhernet port

I use my Airport Express to connect via WiFI to a Linksys WRT54G, wich connects to the Internet and qt teh sqme time connects to my PC via Ethernet. iTunes works perfectly, no issue with that.
Now I want to use the Ethernet port on my Airport Express but can't find a setting where this is possible.
My Airport Express (firmware version 6.2) is configured to join an existing wireless network and connect to the Internet via wifi using DHCP. The LAN port simply is not activated and greyed out in the Airport Admin Utility.
Can anyone help me out here? Is what I want possible with the Airport Express?

You can use the Express in that way, but you'll have to set up the network differently and you may have to use third-party firmware in the WRT54G to get it to work. You need to set up the Express to join the existing wireless network and extend its range (i.e. set up a WDS with the Express and the WRT54G) in order for the Ethernet port to be active. Whether you have to use third-party WRT54G firmware depends on the version of the router. I believe that any version prior to v5 require the firmware. See this site:

Maybe there's an obvious answer, but I have this strange thing;

Why is it that this port, which is configured as a trunk port, shows up as active in vlan1? Also when I do a show interfaces trunk, this specific port is not listed as a trunked port. By the way I had to shutdown the port because it was causing issues. It's a redundant link, when enabled I would expect spanning tree to do it's magic, but somehow it does not and instead causes half of our lan to become unreachable. Not sure why.

USB port does not work properly on Tecra M3

I need help with my Tecra M3 USB problems.
It has 2 USB ports. Awhile back the USB ports refused to recognise any non-driver USB memory sticks (I do not have any driver required sticks to try).
Recently I've had to re-install my Siemens ADSL modem, driver etc. which runs via USB cable - LAN connection 2 then WAN miniport. And this is now causing a problem.
1. the Modem LED tells me that it has power (it's a non-powered modem - Siemens C100-1)
2. the link LED holds for about 10 minutes (whilst I'm online) then turns-off (although the properties of the connections tell me that they are still connected)
3. other hardware - printer etc which is powered runs through the USBs OK.
4. the modem seems to be working ok because I can use it with an iBook without problems.
Could this be a USB driver problem? How do I find out? If so how can I fix it?

Thanks for the notes - you're probably right with your suggestions, I've only just read your reply.
In the meantime I didn't have the patience so after much blood, sweat and tears - I re-installed XP.
The support team suggestion I updated my Wireless LAN driver, which seemed a little strange because I have never used any wireless device and didn't mention I ever had a problem with it in my initial problem!!
I'm going to back to a Mac when this Tecra is outdated :)

Firewall in 10.5, how to open ports and how to manage?

I am pulling my hair out with the new firewall in 10.5. In 10.4 I could just set ports as I liked in the control panel, in 10.5 there is no such thing.
I need to for example open port 49999 to allow PageSender to function in my network.
I need to open port 5901 to work with JollyFast VNC, as port 5900 is used by Apple Remote Desktop and the conflict if they both use the same port.
Some of these ports I need permanent open like 59999 and others for one session and than close again, like 5901. Again in 10.4 I made the rule in the pref pane, ticked the box and Bob was your uncle. Now?
I would like to be able to see what ports are open and active on the machine. I have no idea as to where I could see this.
And at the same time I would like to keep the firewall as closed as possible as I am often on line in hotels etc.
So I need help, is there a manual somewhere someone is aware of? Or do you have any answers?

The new Application Firewall does not work in the same way as IPFW (the main firewall in 10.4).
Instead of managing ports, it simply controls the access of applications to any port. Thus, if you want PageSender to receive connections, you simply need to switch the firewall to "Set access for specific services and applications", and then add PageSender to the list, with "Allow incoming connections". When you do this, PageSender will be able to receive connections on any port that it needs to.
If you don't like this method of controlling connections, you can still use IPFW. Apple has removed the GUI, but you can download a GUI application like [NoobProof|http://www.hanynet.com/noobproof> or [WaterRoof|http://www.hanynet.com/waterroof/index.html], and you can then set access for specific ports.
There are no problems with using both IPFW and Application Firewall.
