Port Replicator vs Docking station. What's the difference?

I've just received a port replicator for my T410, and I find that I can't lock the Thinkpad to the unit. I presume THIS is the difference between a replicator and a dock.... Is that true?
However, looking at the description of the port replicator, it says, and I quote, that it has "a cable lock slot to secure  both your port replicator and your notebook".
So how can it secure the notebook? I've had to get a second Kensington Lock to lock both the replicator and Thinkpad down securely ------ or am I missing something here?
UPDATE: Ok - so now I see that the Kensington Lock on the Port Replicator does lock the laptop to the unit. Thus the only differences I can see is that a D/Station has some extra ports (Parallel printer, couple more displays, headphone & microphone). Is that all?

Port replicator just replicates the port choices on the laptop, while the docks offer more port choices that are not available on the laptop itself.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
    Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
    All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    In the worst case, it's still under warranty (all 7th gen nanos are still under one year from purchase).
    So, you disconnect it from power, and it almost immediately goes dead?  You can try a Restore... but it doesn't sound like the type of problem a Restore will fix.
    You should probably have it looked by Apple Tech Support.  If there's an Apple Store nearby, you can take it to the store's Genius Bar.  To avoid waiting, you can make a reservation at the store's web page

    I am not sure if there is a lightning docking station. But you can buy a lightning-to-30-pin adapter for typical docking station.

    What is the difference between Service Station and Tempro?
    I have just run the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant and it has installed Service Station but Tempro is already installed and seems to do the same thing.

    Hi
    Both tools are from Toshiba an notifies you about the new driver updates available on the Toshiba driver page.
    As far as I know Tempro is little bit older than the Service Station.
    Furthermore the Service Station seems to provide a little bit more options and features as Tempro tool.
    However, i recommend using only one Utility my favorite is Service Station

  • What's the difference between "Receive Port" and "Receive Location" ?

    Hi Everyone,
    I am just starting to learn BizTalk, confused with some concepts, please help me figure out following doubt.
    What is the difference between  “Receive Port – Receive Location” relation and “Send Port Group – Send Port” relation?
    Thanks.
    wang

    Receive Port:
    A receive port is a logical grouping of similar receive locations through which services interact with external partners by receiving data. You can create the following types of receive ports: One-way — used for applications that drop off a message and do
    not wait synchronously for a reply; Request-response — used with applications that require a response to a message
    Receive Location:
    A receive location is the combination of a specific address at which inbound messages arrive and a specific address of the messaging pipeline that processes the messages received at the first specific address. Receive locations are created in BizTalk Explorer
    as part of the process of creating a receive port. There are two types of receive locations: One-way- Used for applications that drop off a message and do not wait for a synchronous reply; Request-response- Used with applications that require a response to
    a message. We can say that they are the physical, design-time notion of a location (such as a URL) and an adapter type. A receive location in the Host node in the BizTalk Server Administration console, defines the receive functionality.
    Send Port: A
    send port is the location to which Microsoft® BizTalk® Server sends messages or from which BizTalk Server receives messages. It also provides the technology that BizTalk Server uses to implement the communication action.
    Send Port Group:
    A send port group is a named collection of send ports that you can use to send the same message to multiple destinations in a single configuration. This is useful when you want to send a message to multiple destinations.

  • Will the ipod docking station work for the iphone5?

    will the ipod docking station work for the iphone5?

    Which iPod is it?
    If it's the newest generation iPod dock, then it probably won't as the new iPod is much thinner than the iPhone 5. It also depends on the shape of the dock (if it has a thin space for the iPod device). Do you think you could add a picture. I will give a more direct suggestion of you can.

  • What's the difference between 2nd and 3rd generation

    PLEASE HELP! New Apple user and looking to purchase a used 2nd or 3rd generation ipod touch.
    what's the difference between 2nd and 3rd generation?
    apparently I am told that the 2nd gen does not have the capabilities of listening without headphone? and the 3rd gen does??

    Hi maximumslowness - (great name),
    The 2nd gen Touch has one internal speaker, so you can listen to it, (both left and right channels) without headphones.
    However - it's a small single speaker and it is not very loud. It's not designed for quality listening (neither is the speaker on the 3rd gen as far as I know) and probably will not be adequate if there is a lot of background noise nearby.
    One option is to drop the iPod (not literally!) into an iPod Docking station so that the sound can play out through a self-contained mains-powered amplified speaker, which will also charge your iPod. There are many on the market. On the bottom of the iPod is the 30-pin dock connector which can be used to feed the audio to a docking station. Another option is simply to use a cable to connect from the headphone socket to the audio input on any amplifier.
    Yet another is to plug in a small fold-up style speakers, such as
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-Folding-Speakers-iPods-Players/dp/B000A1QKNU/re f=sr_1_84?ie=UTF8&qid=1332326622&sr=8-84

    I've no idea how good the sound is, you'll have to judge that for yourself. The links are both to a UK store, but most countries will have a similar option.
    I do not recieve any form of payment or compensatiion for the above links.

  • T450s and docking stations : don't understand differences and limitations

    Hi,
    As you may have seen in my previous posts, I leave my previous company and my good old X220. So I am really wondering if I upgrade or not to the new T450s, or if I search for a X220/X230/T420s/T430s refurbished.
    One of my main concern, is the total display size when docked. I used to use quad FHD screens on my old X220, and I was thinking about increasing again the total display size by replacing 2 FHD screen by 1 4K monitor. However, it seems impossible to run 1 4K and 2 FHD simultaneously.
    So my question is, Where can I find the differences and limitations of the docking stations available for the T450s regarding the display size ability ?
    On the product sheet of the docking stations , Lenovo said "* Some of the video ports have exclusive use and are also dependent on the docked ThinkPad configuration".
    Ok, but where can I have this information ?
    Many thanks for your answers,
    Lenovo X220 4287-CTO / Intel Core i7 2640M @ 2.8 / Corsair Vengeance 16 Go@1866 MHz CL10 / Samsung SSD 840 PRO 512 Go / Bios 1.38 / Linux Xubuntu 14.04LTS / eGPU ATI Radeon 5870 Eyefinity 6 / 2x DELL U2142M / 2x DELL U2212HM

    According to https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-processor-graphics,
    For HD5500 on U processor :
    Independent Digital Displays : Yes (at most, 3 displays may be supported at one time)
    Maximum Display Resolution : U-Processors: 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz
    So 4 displays won't be possible on T450s.
    So, I guess, you can run :
    1 4K display @ 60hz
    OR
    something like 3 FHD/WUXGA displays
    If someone can confirm...

  • What's the difference between "Extend" or "Join" a wireless network?

    I have a Time Capsule as my main base station and an Airport Express I'd like to use on another floor of my home for an internet connection for my Blu-ray player and to stream music via Airtunes. If I connect the Express to the Blu-ray using Ethernet and to my speakers with an audio cable, should I set up the Express to Extend or Join my network? What's the difference between "Extend" or "Join" a wireless network?

    If I connect the Express to the Blu-ray using Ethernet and to my speakers with an audio cable, should I set up the Express to Extend or Join my network?
    Extend.
    What's the difference between "Extend" or "Join" a wireless network?
    When you configure the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to "join an existing wireless network" it will perform like any other wireless client (laptop, printer, etc.) that connects to that wireless network. It will NOT perform as a router nor extend the wireless range of (in this case) the Time Capsule (TC).
    However, if you configure the AX to "extend a wireless network" it will perform as an additional wireless access point to your TC's wireless network, effectively extending the TC's wireless range. In addition, the AX's Ethernet port will also be enabled and you can connect a single Ethernet client or multiple ones if you connect an Ethernet switch instead.

  • What is the difference between 1st and 4th generation wireless?

    I see on my various airports there is 1st and 4th generation.  What are the differences?

    For the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn):
    1st generation: 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports; non-simultaneous dual-band operation; 802.11n draft
    4th generation: 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet ports; simultaneous dual-band operation; 802.11n final
    For the 802.11n Time Capsule (TC):
    1st generation: 500 GB or 1 TB HDD, non-simultaneous dual-band operation; 802.11n draft
    4th generation: 2 TB or 3 TB HDD, simultaneous dual-band operation; 802.11n final

  • What is the difference between Video-out and mirroring?

    What is the difference between Video-out and mirroring? I can't get iPhone 4 video to work on my TV screen
    I have just bought an MD098ZM/A (Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter). I am struggling to get it to show a picture on my TV. I know I'm doing something right because the audio is coming out of my TV speakers but no picture on the TV screen.
    I have used the same HDMI channel (on the TV side) with the same cable and my thunderbolt port (MacBook Air) without any trouble - and on the same app (BBC iPlayer download then full-screen mode).
    Now I note that the packaging for the MD098ZM/A says video-out on iPhone 4 but mirroring only on iPhone 4S. I only have an iPhone 4 (not the 4S). Now if the lack of iPhone 4 support for mirroring means that I can't play video material out to my TV, then in what sense is there any video-out capability at all?
    There is only safety and warranty paperwork in the Apple adapter packaging - no help information. And I haven't found further guidance online either.
    I do note somewhere online that it suggests that basic non-mirroring video-out (for this adapter) only works with some external TV sets. Any way of finding out which? I'm using a Sanyo CE32LD90-B LCD TV if it helps.
    So far not doing very well.

    Now found these but have had to give up on this adapter!

  • What is the difference between Wine, Wineskin, Winery and Wine Bottler, and how do I get Wine to *ACTUALLY* work in Mountain Lion?

    Ok, so this is my first post here and I am admittedly terrible at forums. Someone might say, "This was addressed in the ___________ thread by __________! Go read it!" --- that may be so but I've spent enough hours trying to google this problem into submission to no avail based on what is apparently working for others, so I would like a chance to get specific answers to specific questions that aren't from Mar 2011, etc.
    So first of all, I'm confused by all the various Wine programs/apps/whatevers. I've seen Wine, Wineskin, Winery, Wine Bottler, and at this point I wouldn't be surprised if there are even more than that. What's the difference between all of these and how do they work with one another? What do I actually need to get windows programs working?
    All of my google searches have led me to people giving out fish, but no one giving out fishing lessons. I'm not a pro at mac and windows and all that, but I'm a fairly bright individual who gets VERY frustrated, very quickly, when I don't understand the why and how of something I'm attempting.
    I've also found "answers" where the person attempting to help starts off helpful enough, but degrades into the most archaic of techno-babble after about 5-6 sentences. On the other hand, I've watched tutorials on youtube where the poster decides to skip (apparently crucial) sections of the tutorial, and mutters such gems as: "... you might wanna have to run Wine first before you can do anything, cuz I think it has to configure it and set up a bunch of stuff"
    O.o
    A happy medium between techno-babble and the most basic of explanations would be ideal for me, and I'd imagine for others as well.
    Here is a summarized history of my relationship with Wine:
    Diablo II - I downloaded this awesome thing which ended up being... uh... I guess Diablo II in a Wineskin "wrapper". I'm not sure, all I know is that it's a D2 icon, and if I go to 'show package contents', it's got C drive, Program Files, et cetera inside of it. I double click it, it launches D2, and it works like a dream. <3
    'Vanilla Install' - That's what I heard someone call it. It was the command/terminal style install using xquartz and xcode found at http://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/. I followed every instruction to the letter, and got all the way to '$ sudo port install wine', at which point it started going smoothly, free from the possible error he described regarding the installation of xcode, and then just failed after I left the room to use the restroom and came back. Please don't ask me to repeat what the error was, because honestly, after reading more things on the interwebs, I'm confused as to why it's even necessary to go through all of that, so I'd rather not try that route again anyways, rendering the error message quite possibly irrelevant.
    Wine + Wine Bottler - So I decided to try to seek out an easier method, as I know that one must exist that doesn't involve command lines. I found a video tutorial at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0BBkISOcEA, and oh man would it be great if that method had actually worked. Again, I followed all instructions provided to procure my free fish, and at the point in the video where he declares that "xquarts or x11 will open" - it doesn't open. Nothing opens. I was trying to install Star Sonata, btw.
    So here I am, thoroughly worn out, frustrated at all the random places Wine is installed on my mac now, and just want someone to explain it all, from top down, without getting toooooooo technical on me. I know that might be asking a lot...

    ## I know that the poster has already found a solution, but the following is a possible answer for others that have similar issues.
    For Winebottler, just go to their website and download it. Run the program. Choose .wine as your prefix (best choice) or whatever suits you best. You'll need a functional X11. If you can't use the one that comes with your mac, download the latest one from the website.
    If your issue is one with Winebottler's Wine not running correctly due to X11, then you have a pretty ugly problem, although a simple upgrade is the best solution (Upgrade XQuartz.app).
    http://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/#part-1
    The above website is the easiest way to get REAL wine on your computer. First of all, Wineskin WInery, etc. are NOT WINE. They are 3rd party apps that may use Wine or may have originally part of Wine, but they are no longer up to date with Wine. WineBottler is currently up to date with the stable releases of Wine (but not the maintenence releases).
    For the website tutorial and to run Wine on your mac without using a thrid party app, you will need to know a few things.
    First, you will need to know basic control of the command line. That means, sudo (you must know the administrator password to your computer), and the forms of cd (change directory).
    Second, you will need Xcode. Download 4.2 (stable) or whatever other versions you want, but beware: It is over 1 GB, and you will need time for it to work.
    Third, you will need to get MacPorts and configure it. The tutorial should have this data.
    When you download wine (use sudo port install wine-devel for the latest development release of wine), it will first download a lot of dependencies. This will take a while. After that, it will download wine itself.
    After obtaining wine, to run a program, open the terminal.app window.
    cd desktop/XYZ/ZYZ\ WRQ
    The above will first enter the desktop, then folder XYZ, then folder ZYZ WRQ. From here,
    wine th11e.exe
    Or whatever executable you are trying to open. (Using Subterranean Animism as my example).
    It should, in theory, run the program. Watch the terminal for errors. If there is an X11 problem, then it's not wine acting up. If the app crashes or has other issues, check the Wine Application Database to see if your app is compatible with wine.
    If you have any further questions or other things, feel free to reply; I may or may not get back to you, but there's a good chance that someone will come in eventually. Otherwise, the Wine Wiki should have some information.

  • WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN.....

    Hi friends,
    Please enlighten me ....
    What's the difference between using this.....
    1. Add User command functionality to ALVgrid report
    In order to add user command functionality to the ALV grid you need to perform the following steps:
                        1. Update 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY' FM call to include 'USER_COMMAND' FORM
                    2. Create 'USER_COMMAND' FORM
    call function 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY'
           exporting
                i_callback_program      = gd_repid
                i_callback_top_of_page   = 'TOP-OF-PAGE'
                I_callback_user_command = 'USER_COMMAND'   "see FORM
                is_layout               = gd_layout
                it_fieldcat             = fieldcatalog[]
                i_save                  = 'X'
           tables
                t_outtab                = it_ekko
           exceptions
                program_error           = 1
                others                  = 2.
          FORM USER_COMMAND                                          *
          --> R_UCOMM                                                *

    FORM user_command USING r_ucomm LIKE sy-ucomm
                      rs_selfield TYPE slis_selfield.
    Check function code
      CASE r_ucomm.
        WHEN '&IC1'.
      Check field clicked on within ALVgrid report
        IF rs_selfield-fieldname = 'EBELN'.
        Read data table, using index of row user clicked on
          READ TABLE it_ekko INTO wa_ekko INDEX rs_selfield-tabindex.
        Set parameter ID for transaction screen field
          SET PARAMETER ID 'BES' FIELD wa_ekko-ebeln.
        Sxecute transaction ME23N, and skip initial data entry screen
          CALL TRANSACTION 'ME23N' AND SKIP FIRST SCREEN.
        ENDIF.
      ENDCASE.
    ENDFORM.
    and using this----
    2. Add User command functionality to ALVgrid report
    In order modify PF_STATUS of ALV grid report you need to perform the following steps:
         1. Update 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY' FM call to include:
                        i_callback_pf_status_set = 'SET_PF_STATUS' statement.
         2. Create 'SET_PF_STATUS' FORM
         3. Create pf_status (i.e. 'ZNEWSTATUS').
              - It is recommend that you copy standard status'STANDARD' from function group SALV
                and modify it accordingly. ALV standard function codes always start with '&'.
    call function 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY'
           exporting
                i_callback_program      = gd_repid
                i_callback_top_of_page   = 'TOP-OF-PAGE'

                program_error           = 1
                others                  = 2.
          FORM SET_PF_STATUS                                         *
    FORM set_pf_status USING rt_extab TYPE slis_t_extab.
      SET PF-STATUS 'ZNEWSTATUS'.
                      "Copy of 'STANDARD' pf_status from fgroup SALV
    ENDFORM.
    I have assumed the former is used  when I am selecting a field on the list
    and the later when I have  created a pf-status. I mean to say... I have slected a field and click on some button to get further information.
    Please remove my confusion.
    Thanking you alll in advance,
    Hari Kiran.
