Port Triggering

Had trouble woth port triggering....
WRT54G using latest firmware 8.00.2
I followed the sparse suggestions and info in this forum and across the Linksys website. I was trying to trigger the following ports:
WoW 3724
WoW 6112-6119
Torrent 6881-6999
AIM 5190-5193
Command & Conquer 7000-7002
Command & Conquer 3840
Settings would not save. Get the generic "Settings Have Been Saved" window, click continue, settings actually did not take. How I finally managed to get these settings to save was to give these entries names off the top of my head such as "DLer" and "Conquer" in random slots. I tried different "slots", tried just entering info for triggered ranges, then for forwarded ranges, NOTHING. Fought with this page for over 1 hour to get this router to take what I input. Cleaned my internet cache several times in this process. This feature worked FLAWLESSLY with my still working WRK54G, no problems, saved everything the first time. There seems to be a serious BUG in the firmware of this router. MTU did not matter, router firewall settings did not matter. Of course, putting my PCs IP in the DMZ DID work for these programs. Static IP addresses for the PCs in this building is NOT an option, besides that's what port TRIGGERING is for. Other people have the same problem and nobody so far seems to have a clue. This obvious bug should be looked into and FIXED before I revert back to my WRK54G or even my Belkin router.

did the firmware go successfully?
try the 30-30-30 reset then reconfigure the router and try the port triggering again.

Okay, I have look around for many guide but I can't seem to get the port trigginger to work my Wireless N Router. I have 2 xbox 360s in the house so I'm not able to use port forwarding. I've tried to do port triggering on my own but every guide is to a none verizion type router. Nothing in the guides match the interface I'm giving with. I dont' know what I'm suppose to do. Please, does anyone know how to port trigger for the xbox live with a verizon router?

    http://www.pcwintech.com/port-triggering-actiontec-mi424-wr-verizon-firmware
    Step 1.
Open your favorite web browser and input your routers ip address in the address bar.
Please note that you must have the http:// in order to connect to your router/modem properly.
Need help finding you router IP address? Click here
    Step 2.
Enter your username and password and click 'OK'
If you don't know it you can check our list of default router and modem password list here.
If you have changed it and don't remember it you may have to reset your device to factory default using the reset button on most routers.
    Step 3.
Once logged into your router click on "Firewall Settings"
Set the firewall to 'Minimum Security' to allow Inbound connections.
    Now Click 'Apply'
When the page is done reloading click on 'Port Triggering'
    Step 4.
    Click 'Add'
    Step 5.
For 'Outgoing Trigger Ports' click on 'New Trigger Ports'
    Step 6.
For 'Protocol' choose your protocol, normally TCP or UDP.
    For 'Source Ports' choose 'Any'
For 'Destination Ports' Choose either 'Range' or 'Single' then enter the ports to be used as the trigger.
    Example: 2100 or 2100 - 2105
    Click 'Apply'
    Step 7.
For 'Incoming Ports to Open' click on 'New Opened Ports'
    Step 8.
For 'Protocol' choose your protocol, normally TCP or UDP.
    For 'Source Ports' choose 'Any'
For 'Destination Ports' Choose either 'Range' or 'Single' then enter the ports to be forwared.
    Example: 2100 or 2100 - 2105
    Click 'Apply'
    Step 9.
If you have more ports to add repeat steps 7 & 8.
Once all ports have been added give the service a name.
For 'Service Name' give your entry a unique name.
    Now click 'Apply'
    All done!

  • Port triggering at WRV210

Trigger port not working at my WRV210.
The task: provide RDP from internet to computer behind WRV210.
    Port of RDP :3389.
If I making just forwarding rule outbound 3389 -->  inbound 3389  - RDP is working fine,
As only Im making triggering rule 43389 --> 3389 and trying make remote acsess to port 43389  - no connection.
Am I doing somethig wrong, or WRV210 really do not supporting port triggering?

    did the firmware go successfully?
try the 30-30-30 reset then reconfigure the router and try the port triggering again.

  • Port triggering causes AIM error

Hi. I'm trying to get video chat to work. Each time I solve one error, I seem to get a new one.
    I'm using Netgear WGR614v5.
Initally I had "did not respond" errors. I turned off Mac firewall, changed to Static IP and used Port Forwarding to open ports. This worked and I could do video chat. But the problem was I could only use it when I was connected via Ethernet cable, and I want to get it to work with wireless.
As I understood, that means using Port Triggering instead. So I went back to Netgear configuration. UPnP is on. I turned off Port Forwarding and tried to set up Port Triggering. My Netgear config does not allow me to list a series of ports separated by commas. So I had to set it so UDP 5678 triggers 5060, then 5060 triggers 16384-16403. And TCP 5190 triggers TCP/UDP 5190.
Now when I tried to log in to iChat, it gave me an error connecting to AIM -- "Could not connect to AIM. Host refused connection. Try again later."
If I remove the TCP 5190 triggering, it connects to AIM just fine. I've tried this several times, and that seems to be the culprit.
I tried leaving 5190 trigger on but changin AIM Server to 443 in iChat. This allowed me to connect to AIM. I was even able to start a video chat. BUT after a few seconds, it quits, telling me something like communication error, no data sent for 10 seconds.
(If I use 443 in port triggering, it also gives me the can't connect to AIM error.)
I changed AIM Server back to 5190 and left port triggering off for 5190. Now it tells me there's not enough bandwidth.
I feel like I'm trying to juggle balls here. Each time I pick one up, I seem to drop another one.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Julia

    HI Ulaoe,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions,
Does your computer get a diferent IP when it is wireless ?
UPnP may need starting twice on some Netgears to make it work properly.

  • Why is Answer 344 blocked (Port Triggers)

Starting with the Wireless FAQ (top post)
Click to answer 688, What is Port Forwarding
    http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=688&p_created=1084219690&p_sid=btIGUT4i&p_accessibility=0&p_lva=358&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MSZwX3Byb2RzPTAmcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3
From that page, AnswerID 344, Port Triggers, reaches an unauthorized page.
    Can you unblock that, please?
It's hard to refer to things on the Linksys web pages because of all these embedded session id tokens in the URL.

Loads for me. I don't understand why it would be related to that other site. Can you think of any reason?
To test how the site works in Firefox without customizations, could you do a two-minute experiment?
    '''Create a new Firefox profile'''
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
    firefox.exe -P
Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
You'll click the Create Profile button. I recommend using the default location suggested (in other words, don't click the button to choose a different folder). Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
    Does the site load?
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

  • Difference Between Port Forwarding and Port Triggering.

    Hi guys,
I'm lost! The differences between port forwarding and port triggering is driving me nuts! It all seems very subtle to me. Can anyone explain to me (in a very simple way) what exactly are their differences. Thanks in advance!!

    Port Forwarding
The big difference between this and port triggering is that forwarding is fixed.. you forward a port and it is always forwarded.. IE available to connection.. basically the forwarded port is excluded from the fire walling abilities of the router.  Second it is static and applies to one machine only. Whereas you could set port triggering to the router and thereafter any machine on the LAN can trigger it unless its already in use.. port forwarding must be specified for each individual machine.
Port forwarding requires you to give each PC on the network its own unique static IP address.. Although there is ssh port forwarding that can be set dynamically. Most users only have the option of static ip port forwarding.
The real downside of port forwarding is that it can be very tricky to set up... You may have to allow a series of ports on a machine and have to do that for each machine you want to allow through. Also routers often have limited abilities and may not allow you the ability to forward a port or select the service you require.
    Port Triggering
This is a way of Dynamically assigning a service to a port WHEN it is required by an outgoing service. The port is initially not allowed so nothing can get in and you are protected by your network.
A good example of this is when using Yahoo! voice .. the voice works fine for a few minutes after you connect to Yahoo! then Yahoo! sends some kind of packet that requires a response from your PC... The packet is allowed in through your router no prob but the outgoing reply is not authorized to open a port on the router and is thus blocked.
    'ope this helps

  • Port Triggering not working on new router

I just received Fios ActionTec rev I router and Port Triggering won't work. On my old router I could change the firewall to highest level and I was able to create port triggering to open ports so I can use Outlook to connect to Gamil accounts but on this new router, only port forwarding works (SSH server in my local network port 22) but port triggering (opening port 993) to connect to Gamil won't work. Can anyone help?

  • Wrt160nv2 xbox strict NAT port forwarding/port triggering

I am having trouble stabalizing my NAT on 2 Xboxes. They are both connected to the wrt160nv2 with ethernet cables and I don't know whether I need to do port forwarding or port triggering. Right now, I am using port range triggering, triggered range 53 to 3074 and forwarded range 53 to 3074, and under Setup, MTU size is 1452. I got that off of another post on here but I think they were trying to set it up for an ethernet cable and wireless. I just need to know what to do since both Xboxes are using ethernet cables so both Xboxes can have open NATs.

No need to forward/trigger any ports on the router . Sometimes 2 gaming consoles do not work on a router.
You can try to upgrade the firmware on the router , reset it and reconfigure .

  • Port triggering and getting to an answer

I'm trying to learn how to do port triggering on my WRT160N.  I believe there is an answer (answer id 344) but I can't find/get to it.  I found a link in the port forwarding FAQ, but when I click on it I get a request for a log in, and when I enter my login info, it says I don't have an account.  any suggestions?

I have a wrt160N with 2 security DVRs behind it.  one set up for port 80 and 8090, the 2nd for port 83 and 9000.  Have single port forwording set for both dvrs (4 entries).
have 2 DDNS , one for each.  but I only can connect to the one with the port83 no matter which DDNS I use..  I can connect to both using their individual internal (192.168) addresses.
using the :80 after the address gets me an error msg site doesn't exist.
thought I would try port triggering to see if it works.
I could connect with the DDNS to the port 80 DVR when it was the only one.  when I added the port 83 DVR I had the problem occur.

  • Port triggering on Cisco IOS..?

How can I implement port triggering on Cisco? Any ideas?
I thought to use route-maps, but I see that "ip nat inside source static .."
    have no option route-map :(
    Any other ideas?

You are in the right track.
    It will be:
ip nat inside source static [inside ip] [port] [outside ip or interface] [port]extendable
for instance to forward port 80
ip nat inside source static 192.168.1.1 80 66.125.55.254 80 extendable

  • How do I program a NI 6602 card to send trigger pulses, one at each output port, triggered by an input trigger signal, using only one counter for each output port?

    Hello,
I have managed to program a NI 6602 card in LabView to send pulses on three different output ports, one pulse on each output port (with individually chosen delays) for each input trigger pulse coming on a separate input port. It is the DAQmx Create Channel (CO-Pulse Generation-Time)-VI that I have used for this, see attached code. However, this VI controls both pulse delay and pulse width, and therefore uses two counters for each output port (although you only specify one counter in the VI input signals), as I understand.
In my application though, I only need to have the delay chosen, the pulse width can be arbitrarily short, and thus I should only need one counter for each output port. How do I accomplish to program this in LabView?

Configure Side Camera Flash 1 Triggering.vi ‏47 KB

Well you're welcome to do that--it will work just fine as long as you are configuring a start trigger.
    <rant>
However, personally I really don't like putting multiple counter outputs in the same task.  I have seen so many people assume that the counter outputs would be synchronized due to having them in the same task when this is not the case (you need to configure a start trigger in order to synchronize the counter outputs even if they are in the same task).  This is the only case I can think of where multiple channels in a DAQmx task are not automatically synchronized.
    As an example:
Running this on my PCIe X Series gives a measured 2 edge separation of 1 ms + {7.78 us - 10.11 us}.  This would likely be much worse on a bus with more latency (e.g. USB).
The resulting output is close enough to what you might expect that it might go unnoticed, but really these counter outputs are not synchronized and it would be easy to glance at the code and not even think twice about it.  For the small amount of extra work on my end to create a separate task for each counter, it really clears up some ambiguity about what the counters are actually doing.  For me it's worth it.
So again, for your case there really isn't a problem with having the counters in the same task since you are using an external start trigger anyway.  I have just gotten in the habit of avoiding doing this.
    </rant>

  • How do I port triggering?

I can't connect ot EA Games servers so I wrote them asking what I should. They told me this:
It is imperative that you contact your router company or internet service provider. Make sure that your router has the latest firmware. After the firmware update make sure that the proper ports are once again opened. Most of the time, firmware updates reset the configuration changes made prior. Also make sure that your NAT setting is at type 1.
    The online ports are:
    * UDP Ports: 88 & 3074
    * TCP Port: 3074
I have updated my firmware but what about the NAT type 1? How and where do I change that? I looked for it on the setup page for the router but couldn't find it.
Online Ports what does this mean?  I looked for this also with no luck please help me so I can play madden online. thanks
Message Edited by bucs1fan on 09-06-2007 01:20 PM

well you cannot change the NAT type on the router, however you may try triggering ports on the router... let me know the model and the version no. of the router that you are using..also let me know the firmware version...so that i can tell you step by step...

I'm trying to get Utorrent up and going right and it says it's being blocked by my router or a firewall. My windows vista system has the firewall off,and I use avg antivirus that doesn't have one in it. I'll go into my router and I've tried port range forwarding,Single port forwarding, and port triggering as well as disabled and enabled UPNP to no avail.
I've tried to get any port to be open, but I'll go check to see if it works using www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ or www.utorrent.com/testport.php?port="insert a port number here"
but i havn't been able to make any open.
any ideas or am i doing something stupid and missing it?

  • Ichat, netgear routers, and triggering ports

I'm trying to setup my netgear router (WRT624) to allow ichat AV to work by setting up port triggering, and while it's pretty self explanatory, I'm having issues with one setting on the router for each trigger entry: the "triggering port", which is the outbound port number. I have no idea what to put in this field. the apple docs clearly state what ports to open, but this triggering port is confusing to me. it only allows a single port entry and only runs in UDP or TCP, not both.
the apple doc doesn't say what to here, and the netgear site is being no help. can someone tell me what this is all about and what number I'm supposed to put in this field?
here's the suport doc with the ichat ports:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208

    Hello,
From Niel's Link this is the important pic...
The Trigger port should be port 5678 on UDP.... to open port 5060 on UDP.
Then Port 5060 should be the trigger to open 16384-16403 again on UDP
The Port 5190 needs both protocols opens and needs to Trigger iself essentially.
If you are using Bonjour then set the ports up as single self triggering ports (5297, 5298 and 5353 all on UDP with 5298 needing TCP as well.)
Jabber has TCP port on 5220, 5222 and 5223
For most Jabber servers the login port is 5222 GoogleTalk and some older servers use port 5223 Set up a triggered group of 5220-5223 with the relevant 5222 or 5223 as the trigger.
See this pic where these are set in a table format which explains it a little easier.
There are some devices where the ports to be opened can be listed on one line with just commas as separators
Trigger 5678 UDP Ports 5060,5678,16384-16403 UDP (not all let you restate the Trigger)
I notice on Niel's link that there is a suggestion of setting the time limit to 20 minutes after a port has been triggered. In iChat the invites come on port 5678 and then once dealt with, this port is not used. If you calls are likely to be longer then set a higher figure. This will apply to bith Audio and Video calls as they use the same ports.
