Portable mp3 recorder with external memory/batteries?

I'm looking for a portable audio recorder (or music player with recording functions) that:
- is mac-compatible
- records directly to mp3
- uses removable memory cards
- uses standard battery formats rather than an internal, rechargeable battery
- preferably has an option for attaching an external microphone
So far, Roland Edirol R0-9, Zoom H4 Handy Digital Recorder, Fostex FR-2LE and iAudio Cowon D2 seem to fit the bill. Are there any other recommended products?
I have an ipod but its battery life is extremely short, so recording on that is out.
Thank you.

What's your budget?
From the list above, and coming in around $300 USD, there's the Zoom H4, which not only does all of the above, but also acts as a USB interface, provides XLR jacks for connecting up to 2 external mics, has a built in pair of X-Y configured stereo microphones, records to SD memory, and much more.

  • Stereo recording with MP3 recorder using external stereo

I want to record digital streo sound and wonder if I need to buy a MD recorder or if I could use an MP3 recorder which I'd prefer? Therefore please explain if an external stereo mic. can be connected to any of your MP3 players/recorders. If so, which model. If not, please explain if an external stereo mic. also could be connected to the 'line in', and if so, if it could be connected directly, or if it needs to have a preamp in between. If so, which preamp to use with which MP3 recorder?thank you for any answer.

thank's for your fast answer. Are the two players you mention older models? According to the creative site there are three models offered nowadays with the name 'jukebox7: Jukebox Zen NX, Jukebox Zen Extra and Jukebox Zen USB 2, but as much as I understand their specifications they do not have a 'line in', or do they? If they don't, well, even though this is a creative's forum, are there any MP3 recorders from other manufacturers which would do the job?
Concerning the mic, are there mics offered which include a preamp? If so, which one would you recommend? If not, what kind of preamp with which specifications do I have to get to connect with which kind of mic? Any mic offered for MD recorders? Would my Panasonic mic of my video recorder do the job as well? Could be that this mic for the video recorder already includes a preamp?
    thank's again for any help,

  • Using a portable digital recorder with MAC

my bad - I just bought a panasonic portable digital recorder (about $70).
I was assuming I could use it with my Mac OS X - I don't know why I assumed that, I just took it for granted that these recorders were like digital cameras, they would automatically work with any computer that had a USB input.
wrong! when I connect it to the Mac, the recorder lights up and says "PC," as it is supposed to, and then, when I go into "about this mac" in the system profiler, it finds something on the USB port -
but other than than that, I don't know how to access what's on the recorder - it doesn't mount on the desktop like a camera (I assumed it would).
Can anyone help? is there any software out there that can read this little recorder - it's the Panasonic RR-US395.
    thanks!

powerMac G5 single processor   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

What software came with ? I have used DVRs for years. The Olympus is what I currently use. Still using an older model though as I like the cradle type computer connection. All was fine until 10.4. I got it going on the MBP finally but gave up on the G4 as I don't boot it into 10.4 anymore and it does work fine in <3.9. It was a combination of timing on the install on the MBP. Plugged the unit in about 1/2 way through installation and had to have it connected and restarted before it actually worked. Random luck. It started asking me for a "key" number and no docs mentioned anything about this so I plugged the unit in and it continued to install. Installation would hang prior to this point if the device was plugged in first though.
Do any apps try to launch when connected? I would also check iTunes and GarageBand or any other video/audio apps that you may have to see if it's "recognized" and shows up there anywhere. Does iPhoto think a camera is connected? As by design that is/was Apple's goal with 10.4. Ultimate connectivity. Everything that connects to your machine these days is categorized by class or "family" of products. Specific products i.e. Panasonic RR-US395, are "children" This is supposed to simplify things for HW/SW manufacturers creating products that are compatible with the Mac and if they don't Mac should be able communicate with it anyway providing basic I/O functionality void of product specific features. Reading your post I realized I have not even seen a reference to DVRs as being a device "family" and I am wondering if this has something to do with it as the MBP required me to install DSS Player.
It is my contention that there is a serious issue with this I/O Kit (actually at the kernel level that the kit communicates with) and I am curious exactly what kind of "something" Profiler sees. A screen shot of the page w/ all the lists extended would be a great help.
There is a Dictation/Transposing SW available I have since lost it and don't remember the name. Will try to hunt it down again as it was very useful, I downloaded it used it a few times and it worked great. Found a couple others with it that were free as well. Worked with various different DVR's and formats MacUpdate maybe?
If there is no other way to connect it you can get a cable to go from the headphone jack on the DVR to the line in on the G5 record it w/ QT, GarageBand or the like.
If you still have 9 installed Simple text allows you to record sounds as well.
If you can return it Olympus does include Mac SW.

  • Video recorded with external iSight has green dot in it.

Anybody have any idea why any video recorded by my external iSight has a green dot in it. Almost seems like the power light is somehow being reflected into the housing.

That's not very good news at all. If that's the problem I'm sure it has a lot to do with how hot it gets. I've even noticed it gets really warm and it hadn't been turned on in weeks. Just being plugged in made it hot.

  • Can't open SD memory with external memory card reader.

I have a SD memory disk i use with my camera.  I have connected to an external card reader and my macbook air has been able to open the disk in the past.
Not sure why, but now it gives me a popup error saying "Disk was not ejected properly.".  I've tried rebooting the macbook, and disconnecting and reconnecting the USB memory reader.  But it didn't fix the problem.  The popup is constantly poping up and I can't view files in the card.
This same disk using the same card reader can be open using a Windows PC.  I can see all the pictures on the memory card.
Please tell me how to get the macbook to recognize this SD memory disc again.

  • How to open up Forms and navigate to record with external hyperlink?

    Hello,
I was wondering whether it is possible to open up a Forms Application, and navigate to a specific Form and record via an external hyperlink. For example in an e-mail a hyperlink is generated which should redirect the user directly into the application and to the correct Form and record ID.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    Regards

I suppose this is theoretically possible. The hard part would be to figure out how to pass the equivalent of a ParamList or a Global Variable to a form from a web page. Then you could test for these ParamList or Global values in the called form and navigate to the desired Form and query a specific record. I've seen some demo's on OTN where they embedded a Form into a Web Page and was able to interact between the web page and the form and vis-versus. Unfortunately, I can't remember where I saw the demo, but it was just recently that I saw it. If you can find this demo, it might give you some ideas how to do what you are trying to do.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

  • Cant hear song playback while recording with external USB Interface Mic in Garageband

    Hi there
There must be something wrong with my settings in Gargaeband/Mac Sound Settings.
I have Garageband 9 (V5.1) running a song I have already recorded using a USB keyboard.
I want to record using my external mic and my USB Audio Interface, so
I select New Track> Real Instrument
I plug in my Yamaha Audiogram 3 USB AUdio Interface and I get a pop up stating
"Garageband is scanning your system for audio devices, and has detected a device named "USB Audio Codec"
If you want to use this device do not disconnect it during the scanning process.
Do you want to use this devise No/Yes."
I select Yes and INPUT SOURCE changes from
    Mono 1 (Built-in Microphone)
    to
    Mono 1 (USB Audio CODEC)
I can see the signal lights lighting up on the audiogram 3 when I talk into the mic, so theres no problem there.
Also when I hit record I can record audio using the mic, and can see the levels (and the audio wave I am creating being drawn on the screen) but I cannot hear the track itself when I am recording using the mic. Nor can I hear the track or the new mic recorded audio AFTER I have hit stop.
The only way to hear the song again with the newly recorded mic track is to unplug the Audiogram 3 (Then I get another Pop-up stating
"The audio device "USB Audio CODEC" has been disconnected!
Do you want to switch to Built-in Audio or quit Garageband?"
    I select USE BUILT-IN AUDIO)
Then the input source changes back to
    Mono 1 (Built-in Microphone)
And I can hear the track again.
So my problem as you can see if that I cant hear the track while recording using the microphone with the Audiogram 3.
But I can record video with audio using the audiogram 3 USB Audio Inteface and mic using photobooth when I select change Sound>Input to USB Audio Codec in system preferences
It therefore assume it must be a problem with the internal audio settings of the mac/garageband.
    Can anyone advise?
    thanks!

In order to hear yourself while you are recording, you need to set Monitor to "ON" under the Track Info panel.
Also, what are your sound output settings?  It sounds like you haven't selected the right output source.
If your speakers or headphones are plugged into your audio interface, then you need to go into Preferences -> Audio/MIDI and select your audio interface under Output as well as Input.  If your speakers or headphones are built-in or plugged directly into your computer, then you need to select Built-In under Output.
I have a sneaky feeling that you are in the latter scenario, and that when you plug in your audio interface Garageband is automatically switching both Input and Output over to your interface, which means no sound output as long as the interface is plugged in.

  • Audio recording with external mic

    Hi,
I have a problem that's become a real issue for me. I record meetings from the end of a conference table and have used a Dell in the past. I have a great little external mic called Sound Grabber. However, when I try to use it on my Mac, the volume quality is not adequate. I feel like the Mac really doesn't recognize the external mic and wants to default to the internal mic all the time, and that doesn't cover a conference room by any means. I've tried other mics and had the same issue, so I'm sure it's not the mic. I've also seen similar complaints from other users, but no one has come up with an explanation or solution.
This function is vital to my job and lack of quality recording forces me back to the Dell every time. Can anyone help me get this figured out so I can stick with the Mac?

    MBP = MacBookPro
I use a MicFlex (http://www.mac-pro.com/s.nl/it.A/id.1896/.f $39.95) for most personal voice uses on OSX and an mVox MV100 for desktop conference/group calls (http://www.mvox.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2 $9.99) on my PC (used to be Mac compatible but not since 10.3)

I get no sound when trying to record using an external mic pluged into the mic jack.  I have tested the mic that i'm using on another pc and it works ok.  The pc's internal mic can pick up the recording ok as well. help!

You may need to go to Control Panel under Sounds and change the default input from the internal to external mic.

  • Only one channel of audio recorded with external USB audio interface on DV6604nr

I only get on channel of audio when i hookup my Behringer UCA202 to my dv6604nr
vista 32 sp2 . The Behringer takes analog 2 channel audio and converts it to a digital signal.
This is using the Audacity software. The hardware and software check fine, though i tested them with an xp system.
Are there trouble shooting tips for these issues. I've updated the Audacity software and the usb drivers say their up to date. (?)

Come on... It's just like a usb turntable, only a little better quality. What steps would you use to troubleshoot one of those?

  • Stereo recording with external mic in iMovie

    Hey everybody
So, this question has probably been up before but I cant´t figure it out.
    First:
I want to make a video and live recording of one of my new songs using iMovie.
I use a KM 184 condeser microphone through a duet audio interface. I can see here that there is sound on both output channels (stereo) also in logic pro and garageband.
    Problem:
Choosing microphone input in iMovie I only get left channel signal, that is NO stereo sound.
I want to use one microphone but I can´t figure out how to get a stereo song in iMovie. Any ideas on this matter???

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
     Cheers, Tom

  • Track goes silent when recorded with external mic

    Hello,
I have a Rode Stereo Videomic plugged into a griffin Imic which is plugged into the line in port on the back of my Imac.
    it sounds fantastic.
only problem is. when I record a track. I can see that it recorded, but when I try to play it I can't hear it.
in order to hear it I have to quit and re open garage band... EVERY TIME. very frustrating.
on top of that. I have to unplug and replug the Imic into my computer every time I open garage band in order to detect it.
    any suggestions?
    thank you!

  • Importing to iMovie: How do I use an external usb mic when recording with the built-in FaceTime HD Camera?

    Hello all
I'm scheduled to work with a friend this week; I'm going to help him make a simple audition DVD.  I promised him I had the necessary equipment and such.
I was importing from the webcam using iMovie.  If I can't use my external mic to record for the video, there is more involved in the editing process.   I was hoping to record the video and audio into one package.  I'm using the built-in FaceTime webcam on my macbook pro and a ZoomH1 on usb.
I've tried changing the audio in system preferences: input to H1.  This works when recording with audacity or anything else.  I even changed the input on FaceTime to H1.  There aren't any preferences I can find in iMovie to change the input for importing video directly from the webcam.
How do I change the audio input for direct import on iMovie?
    OR
Is there something else I can do to have HD video and HQ audio captured in one video file on my macbook pro?
I suppose I can record the video and audio separately but that is usually much more involved.  This is why I got this usb microphone lol.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Seth

I just found using QuickTime Player to record a movie works great.  I can easily change the audio input.  iMovie is silly. lol
If I missed anything let me know.
    Thanks

  • How & why Record with an external drive?

Hi. Okay, in another topic I posted it was recommended that I record with an external drive and not the internal drive... I have a 7200rpm firewire 400 lacie drive... so how do record with it? Why and how will this improve my Logic Pro recording experience? I also have a FirePod firewire interface.
    Thanks,
    Bill K.

To record onto an external drive, simply go to the audio menu and choose "Set Audio Record Path..." From here set your recording path to be somewhere on your external drive.
In general, it best to record to a drive other than your system drive. Depending on what you are doing, the system drive can be writing/reading cash files, data files and doing other Logic/OSX related activities in the background, all of which slows down your disk. You of course can still use your system drive to access data, but because its doing other operations, you may not be able to run as many audio tracks at once as you could using a dedicated external drive.
Try both methods and see which works best for you and your system.

  • Error in sharepoint external list while creating record with same id (this id is primary key)

    Hi,
I have created one external content type in sharepoint designer to insert/update/delete table data.
This table contains Primary key constraint.
Then I have added this external content type to Sharepoint out of box List.
Insert/Update/Delete is working fine. But when I am trying to insert record with the same id which is already exist in table, page crashed and its giving me following error:
“Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_tbl_Accounts'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.tbl_Accounts'.
The duplicate key value is (1). The statement has been terminated.”
So I want to handle this exception. Can we show any popup message to hide this error?
    Thanks & Regards
