  • Does Apple make a vehicle charger for MacBook Pro ?

  • Which incar charger for Macbook pro ?

    Advise please - I need to charge my Macbook pro 15"(2011)in the car, and having looked around it seems like the choice is;
    a Belkin AC Anywhere - 300W DC/AC Power Inverter for £15.87 (Amazon)
    or
HyperMac Pure DC Car Charger (Protronica) for £119.95
Seems a no-brainer does anyone know of a reason I shouldn't get the Belkin?
The HyperMac says "it is the ONLY non-Apple solution that supports the MacBook Pro dual voltage (16.5~18.5V) operation." Do I need to worry about this?

I have been also looking into getting a car charger and also an external batter and I have to agree with what hypermac say on their website that using a set up transformer and then step down the voltage agian with the normal apple charger is not an option I would liek to consider. in the way of efficieny it is not great you have two transformers radiating heat out so thats a mass of energy down the drain already. and also the comment they made on changing the current form DC to AC then from AC back to DC does not seem very good.
Personally I would suggest buy the airline adapter from apple and then get the Hypermac stuffs. also if you use the Airline apater version rather than the Hypermac box thingy where oyu have to modify the cable it will be an easy thign just plugging in the airline adapter into another adapter so its simple for peopel who dont like messing around with cables I think
I would of cause be interested to hear other peoples opinions on this.
sadly I gotta say I am very dissapoited that apple do not have their own car charger. and also even more a backup battery this is a real downfall I have to say which dissapoints me. Since you cannot just simplly swap the internal battery in the mac.

  • Which one of these 12volt/car charger for MacBook Pro would you choose..???

    Hi everyone.
I am looking for a suitable 12volt/car charger, so i can charge my brand new MacBook Pro directly from our caravan batteries via a car/12 volt socket. I dont want to use a inverter, as it draws unnecessary power from the vans batteries.
I am being cautious as I don't want to use a product that is not 100% compatible here in Australia and might void the warranty in any way.
I can not find anything suitable manufactured by Apple but I have found many 3rd party alternatives, ranging from approx $50 up to a couple of hundred.
Has anyone had any experience with any of these products.

Thanks for your help in advance

Hi Carl, Thank you for your help. I am still none the wiser which one to pick. You say they are not equivalent, but don't they all do the same job. I never was any good at joining the dots, my spelling is shocking and I really wouldn't know a technical error even if it was starring me in the face.
    Have a good one.

  • Best portable hard drive for MacBook Pro late 2011

Looking for a portable hard drive, 1TB USB 2.0 I think.  I googled the model details below and it said it had USB 2.0
    EtreCheck version: 1.9.12 (48)
    Report generated 2 August 2014 10:06:17 BST
    Hardware Information:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) (Verified)
      MacBook Pro - model: MacBookPro8,1
      1 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 CPU: 2 cores
      4 GB RAM
Have never backed up before and not too bothered about it being super fast.  Would like to get one for under £50.  Tried looking myself but getting very confused, USB, FireWire ????
    Can anyone help?

USB 3 hard drives will work with your MacBook but only at USB 2 speeds. FireWire 800 is your best option for fast data transfers at this point, unless you want to get a new computer.
    Best of luck.

  • Is it OK to charge the Macbook Air with charge for Macbook Pro?  45W to 60W...

Can I charge my Macbook Air with Macbook Pro charger?  It is 45W to 60W.
    What is impact?

You can use a higher wattage charger than the one that came with the computer, but not one of a lower wattage.

  • IPad charger for MacBook Pro

Is it possible to take the charger from IPAD to power a MacBook Pro? sorry i am a german

Nein.  It will not be powerful enough and the connection is not compatible.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Air charger for Macbook Pro Retina?

The Air charger is 45W and the Pro Retina charger is 85W.  I understand that the Pro charger can be used for the Air and forums have said that the Air charger does not provide enough wattage for the Pro.  My question is will the Air charger fully charge the Pro if the Pro is not being used while it is plugged in?  And will the Air charger overheat or burn out per se if used for the Pro while the Pro is being used.

It will charge the Retina (if the retina is off) but slowly, and it will run hot, make sure that it has decent airflow.

  • Solar Charger for my Z10

I am considering buying a rollable, portable solar charger for my Z10. Would such a product with these specs,Max Power: 4.8 Watts, 300 mA (model f15-300) produce enough power to safely charge my device?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    hello!
may i add some thoughts to this topic...i am working since a couple of years on solar chargers for mobile phones.
we do have a solution for this...our solar panel is foldable, keeps constant in performance under "hot" conditions (which most of the products in the market don´t do...your 300 mA are probably only available at 25 degree celcius...in the sun you get easily surface temp of over 60 degree celcius and your current will drop to 150 mA or even less)...I use Q10...it can be charged with 500 mA  (standard USB power) but not below 450 mA...for Z10 i cannot tell, because we did not test so far...best way is to use a solar panel and a seperate powerbank (no integrated designs!) which is dedicated to be charged by solar power...then you can charge your phone from this powerbank...it works very stable and you avoid keeping your phone in the sun...temp is too high!  Smartphones will interrupt charging function at temp above 40 to 45 degree celcius...which means Smartphone must be in the shadow!  We offer direct charging function as well, but recommend this only when sun is stable and temperature is low (or cold wind) I do not want to make advertising for my product here...but it really works...:-) but the solar cells we use and the powerbank technology has its price...solar power is great but so far expansive if done in a good way and not as a product which just just wants to catch the "green marketing trend"... since 3 weeks i have charged my phone ONLY by solar power...we have a south sided window at our office and i charge every day my powerbank and at evening i charge my Q10 from there. So finally...it may work!  ;-) Outdoor i do have my solar bag...and collect the energy to safe inside the powerbank. But the solar panel can also be mounted on backpacks...and has better usability...and is cheaper!  ;-)
maybe i could keep your interest for solar power solutions...create energy...it makes fun...and probably provides a bit more liberty when using our daily electronic gadgets...and it is renewable energy!
    best wishes from Vienna, Rafael

  • Solar charger for ipad

Going on a two week camping trip and will not have electricty is there an approved solar charger currently of the ipad.

I'm seeing if the following setup works and would save hundreds of pounds I admit that charging the batteries may take a little longer than the other chargers. But if it save me 100's of pounds and also allows me to keep charging loads of battles for future use. Who cares.
Basically charger the 4or 2xaa batteries using the solar charger and USB battery charger.  Then use these batteries with the extender providing up to 10,000mah that should completely charge the iPad to full.

  • Protective cap for Macbook Pro charger?

Hello, I'm unsure if this has been asked already. I noticed when I plugged in to charge my macbook pro this morning, that the clear protective cap was missing. As of now, it is unprotected and was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a replacement cap for it or is it safe without it? I also already contacted Apple about it, and they couldn't help because they said that they don't carry them. Can Anybody help? Thanks

You may be able to find one at an Apple Authorized Service Provider:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1434
They may have a few laying around. I used to make it a point to hold on to them with my first MacBook back in 2006. To be honest, I lost it shortly there after and I've never been very concerned about them with the few machines I've had since then. Unless you're keeping the charger in a very dirty environment or find that you're prone to spilling things... you shouldn't have any problems.

  • Recently when I want to charge my Macbook Pro, ok Pro 13" with my Magsafe adapter, it charges for a few seconds and then it stops as soon as my MBP found the remaining charging time.. I haven't done anything to my adapter.

    Hi all
The last couple of days when I wanted to charge my Macbook Pro 13", my magsafe adapter stopped working when my MBP found the remaining charging time.
When I charge my MBP with another adapter, it works fine.
