Portal 902: How to setup large scale navigation ?

hello,
I'm just starting to work with Portal 902. The new concept of page groups and pages is still not clear to me. I want to design a site with a banner on the top and 7 tabs. 4 of the tabs should have a specific vertical navbar on the left side and a content region on the right side. The content region should allow for navigation to sub levels where the sublevel in rendered in place. This type of interface is very common.
In Portal 309 it was possible to define tabs, create a navbar portlet on the left and a folder portlet on the right side. While navigating in the folder portlet, the subfolder was rendered in place.
How should I design this interface in Portal 902 ? I don't want to define the tabs on each subpage again. The number of subpage can become very huge, and therefore it should be easy for users to create them.
Can someone explain how to implement this type navigation, and how the old and new concept can be compared ?
regards,
Willem-Pieter van der Lugt

willem,
i've a question for u ...
u mentioned in portal 309 u did the following -
create 22 regions in a page, the left region will contain nav bar portlet and the right region will have folder portlet and as the user navigates thru the nav bar in the left region the folder renders in the right region in folder portlet ? is that correct ...? if so, how do u do this ... cause, i could not find any way of rendering the folder in the right region ... when it is clicked in the nav bar portlet in the left region.
how do u do this in 309.
what i did was create a custom HTML nav bar in the left region and create a IFRAM in the right region. when a user clicks a link in the left region, i render it in IFRAME using the target property of IFRAME. this is lot of work and maintenance is pain ... if there is a way to do this in a simpler way, pls let me know.
thanx a bunch
hero

    Hi Kiran,
You should be able to find the answers to the questions you posted in the FPN documentation set on teh SAP Help Portal, which you can find here: <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/5b/9f2d4293825333e10000000a155106/frameset.htm">http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/5b/9f2d4293825333e10000000a155106/frameset.htm</a>.
Note that the documentation assumes you have prior portal experience. The solution is based on NW2004s.
If you have any comments (good and bad) about the documentation feel free to post to this thread.

  • When printing from an online PDF, the page prints in extra large scale. How do I fix this?

when printing from an online PDF, the page prints in extra large scale. How do I fix this?

This can happen when Firefox has misread the paper size from the information supplied by Windows. Clearing it can involve finding some obscure settings, but here goes:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''print''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) For each setting for the problem printer, right-click and Reset it. The fastest way is to right-click with the mouse and then press the r key on the keyboard with your other hand.
Note: In a couple other threads involving Brother printers, the preference '''printer_printer_name.print_paper_data''' was set to 256 and when the user edited it to 1 that fixed the paper size problem. If you see a 256 there, you can edit the value by doubling-clicking it or using right-click>Modify.

  • Tweaking product prices on a large scale - how?

My Client has a software store on BC. His supplier is constantly changing their prices and my client wants to be able to quickly review prices, make changes to reflect supplier prices every few days
If I export the Product List the Excel export is unusable with it full of HTML markup from the product descriptions.
Apart from opening each product individually to check and tweak prices how is everyone ammending prices on a large scale.... My client only has 60 products at the moment but this is soon to quadruple and I have prospective clients looking at BC for their ecommerce solution and they have thousands of items.
    Regards
    Richard

If its just prices you want to input, see if you can just eliminate all the other columns that are not needed and only import the price column with its product identifier ofcourse, and see if it will just update the price and not have to deal with the descriptions...Just a thought...

  • How to setup java run time before setting up portal

    Dear Experts,
To implement a portal, i need to setup java run time environment to our server. Please show me a way on how to do this.
    Thanks
    SP

You need to download the Java SDK for your apropriate operating system and install it as per the instructions from the provider. So, for example, with Windows you go to the Sun web site, download SDK 1..4 and then run the setup script.

  • How do large scale software companies (IBM, Micrsft, SAP) specify design?

I am wondering if anyone can point me to a reliable source of information that shows how large scale software companies perform business when it comes to Software design specifications?
Do they do a full design? Partial? No designs at all?
Do the companies do a high and low level design, or split it into different phases/iterations?
Do they use a proprietary format (Text + UML)? Straight UML? Text Only?
Does anyone know of a source of information which describes these sort of informations?
    Thanks

Most will have a multitude of "standards" and"processes" in use in different departments and for
    different projects.
I agree with you, but is there information out there
which points to what large companies tend to do during
the design phase? On large scale projects (10,000+
function points), it would be nearly impossible to
approach this task without dividing and conquering
(refer to Dr. Jenkings Extreme Software Cost
Estimation, which says that an individual task of
200,000+ lines of code can never be completed, or at
    least has never been done).
Large scale projects exist without formal design. They usually arrive at that over time by incremental addition.
So, there must design approaches used, otherwise
these companies would never be finishing their
projects. So I am trying to find a source that I can
cite with information on specifically what design
process, and modeling is being used.Just because there are no formal designs or the formal designs are not up to date does not mean there are no designs.
The problem is not that designs do not exist, but rather that there is no way to communicate those designs to others. Formal, up to date designs, solve that problem.

  • How to Setup SSL on Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1..2)

    Hi All,
Can anybody tell me How to setup the SSL on Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2).
I have all the required documents like
    1. Oracle Application Server Portal Server Configuration Guide.
    2. Oracle Application Server Web Cache Configuration Guide.
    3. Oracle Application Server SSO Administration Guide.
I tried to follow all this documents but still i am not able to set SSL for Oracle Portal Server.

The Portal Configuration Guide, available on OTN at http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/appserver1012.html does provide some very specific information on how to set up OracleAS Portal.
Section 6.3.2.1 Configuring SSL for OracleAS Portal describes various configurations, such as:
    SSL to OracleAS Single Sign-On
    SSL to OracleAS Web Cache
    SSL Throughout OracleAS Portal
External SSL with Non-SSL Within Oracle Application Server
For larger enterprise configurations, you can refer to the Enterprise Deployment Guide.
Can you give a bit more background on what you are trying to set up? Which scenario, what sort of hardware, software versions, and so on.
    Regards,
    Pete

  • Large Scale Digital Printing Guidelines

    Hi,
I'm trying to get a getter handle on the principles and options for creating the best large and very large scale prints from digital files.  I'm more than well versed in the basics of Photoshop and color management but there remain some issues I've never dealt with.
It would be very helpful if you could give me some advice about this issue that I've divided into four levels.  In some cases I've stated principles as I understand them.  Feel free to better inform me.  In other cases I've posed direct questions and I'd really appreciate professional advice about these issues, or references to places where I can learn more.
    Thanks alot,
    Chris
Level one – Start with the maximum number of pixels possible.
Principle: Your goal is to produce a print without interpolation at no less than 240 dpi.  This means that you need as many pixels as the capture device can produce at its maximum optical resolution.
Level two – Appropriate Interpolation within Photoshop
Use the Photoshop Image Size box with the appropriate interpolation setting (Bicubic Smoother) to increase the image size up to the maximum size of your ink jet printer.
What is the absolute minimum resolution that is acceptable when printing up to 44”?
What about the idea of increasing your print size in 10% increments? Does this make a real difference?
Level three - Resizing with vector-based applications like Genuine Fractals?
In your experience do these work as advertized and do you recommend them for preparing files to print larger than the Epson 9900?
Level four – Giant Digital Printing Methods
What are the options for creating extremely large digital prints?
Are there web sites or other resources you can point me to to learn more about this?
How do you prepare files for very large-scale digital output?

While what you say may be true, it is not always the case. I would view a 'painting' as more than a 'poster' in terms of output resolution, at least in the first stages of development. Definately get the info from your printer and then plan to use your hardware/software setup to give you the most creative flexibility. In other words - work as big as you can (within reason, see previous statement) to give yourself the most creative freedom. Things like subtle gradations and fine details will benefit from more pixels, and can with the right printer be transferred to hard copy at higher resolutions (a photo quality ink jet will take advantage of 600ppi) if that's what you're going for.
Additionally it's much easier to down scale than to wish you had a bigger image after a 100 hours of labor...

  • Typical/Common large-scale ACE deployment or designs?

I am deploying several ACE devices and GSS devices to facilitate redundancy and site load balancing at a couple of data centers.  Now that I have a bunch of experience with the ACE and GSS, are there typical or common ACE deployment methods?  Are there reference designs?  I have been looking, and haven't really found any.
Even if they are not Cisco 'official' methods, I'm wondering how most people, particularily those who deploy a lot of these or deploy them with large-scale systems, typically do it.
I'm using routed mode (not one-arm mode) and I'm wondering if most people use real server (in my case, web servers) with dual-NICs to support connectivity to back-end systems?  Or do people commonly just route it all through the ACE?
Also, how many VIPs and real servers have been deployed in a single ACE 4710 device?  I'm trying to deploy about 700 VIPs with about 1800 Real Servers providing content to those VIPs.
How do people configure VIPs, farms, and sticky?  I'm looking for how someone who wants to put a large ammount of VIPs and real servers into the ACE would succeed at doing it.  I have attempted to add a large number in the 'global' policy-map, but that uses too many PANs.
I have tried a few methods myself, and have run into the limit on Policy Action Nodes (PANs) in the ACE device.  Has anyone else hit this issue?  Any tips or tricks on how to use PANs more conservitively?
Any insight you can share would be appreciated.
    - Erik

As far as i can see from your requirements i suggest you create 1 ear file for your portal and 1 ear file per module.
The ear file from your portal is the main application and the ear files of your modules are shared libraries that contain the taskflows. These taskflows can be consumed in the portal application.
This way, you can easily deploy 1 module without needing to deploy the main application or the other application.
It also let you devide your team of developer so everybody can work on a sepperate module without interfering.
On a sidenote: when you have deployed your main application, and later you create a new module, than you have to register that module to your application so then you will need to redeploy your portal but if you update an existing module, you won't need to redeploy your portal.
As for the security, all your modules will inherit the security model of your portal application.

  • How to setup a forms function in R12 to launch an URL?

    Hi All,
In 11i we could create a forms function of the type "SSWA plsql function" to launch a html page from the menu.
How is that supposed to work in R12?
So my question is, how to setup a forms function to launch an URL like www.oracle.com in R12?
    thanks,
    thierry

Hi, first set the Profile 'Restricted Text Input' to 'No' for your User.
Then create a form function like below:
Functional Administrator > Core Services > Function > Create (button)
    Name: XX_GOOGLE
    Code: XX_GOOGLE
    Type: SSWA jsp function
    Maintenance Mode Support : none
    Context Dependance: Responsibility
    (press continue button)
    HTML Call: javascript:void window.open("http://www.google.com")
    Leave other fields blank
    Add to HR_EMPLOYEE_DIRECT_ACCESS_V4.0 menu:
    500 XX Google XX_GOOGLE
This will pop up your external webpage in a new window.
The issue is that it only works from the Navigator framework page (not from within Core Forms)

  • How to setup real SFTP in Yosemite?

There's lots and lots of information online about how to setup remote access to my mac using SSH and SFTP in Yosemite...but apparently none of it is actually useful for genuinely  remote access...access from outside my network, access from miles away.  Because here is what I have learned:
The ip address listed in the Sharing pane when you access remote login is internal.  it's some version of 192.168.x.x, which is essentially everybody's computer and utterly useless from outside the network.
So my actual public ip as assigned by my service provider is really my IP if you are trying to get to my computer from outside.
But that IP doesn't "just work" via SSH or, much more importantly for me, SFTP.  Evidently that involves something called "port forwarding" which one used to be able to do via Airport Utility, but is no longer possible because such options do not exist in the current version of the utility.
(What I want to achieve is for a friend of mine, a friend on a mac about 4 miles away,  to be able to directly access very large files on my computer. I don't want to use clouds or public sites or anything like that, I just want to be my own private little FTP server just for her. That used to be no big deal.)
So... is there a solution for this?

Dropbox may be a better option if you can both have accounts with enough storage, it is a simple setup process that can be forgotten about.
Bittorrent sync is another option that mirrors data between several endpoints. You should get better performance if the files are not being transferred over the network (Dropbox & Bittorrent sync create copies at each end).
ssh & port forwarding allows you to use sftp, if you do some more setup you can also use sshfuse to mount the remote content as a network disk, it's a plugin for http://osxfuse.github.io
Just be aware that many scripts & botnets are constantly attempting to login on visible ssh ports on routers across the internet. Enabling ssh to outside access means that any user on you Mac can be a potential login - have good passwords set on ALL user accounts, and do not enable the root account password. There are also options to disable passwords in ssh (& use ssh keys only) if you want better security.
ssh is good, but it is not trivial to setup and it won't open ports for you. Apps like bittorrent sync can use UPnP to request port forwarding rules, to make setup easier.
Back to My Mac is OK, provided you are willing to hand over the keys to your Apple ID.
P.S. You keep mentioning ftp, please avoid ftp. ftp can use plain text passwords that can be sniffed over the network, avoid opening the network to inbound ftp traffic too.

  • How to setup the drill down on union report

    Hi,
    I'm setting the union report.
I want to set the drill down to another report.
    But I can't setup it.
Would you please tell me how to setup.
    Thank you.

    Hi Hemlatha
In Crystal Reports, to prevent the ability to drill down into a subreport when published on the Web, add a text object that is filled with blank spaces, created by pressing the 'Space Bar' and 'Enter' for line returns, to eclipse the subreport.
This workaround is applicable only to subreports that does not grow in size. For example, subreports that display only a chart or graph.
Steps to Add a Text Object over a Subreport
    1. In the Crystal Reports Designer of the main report, insert a text object over the subreport.
    2. Resize the text object to be the same size or a little larger than the subreport object on the main report.
    3. Fill the text object with blank spaces created by pressing the 'Space Bar' and 'Enter'. This is necessary because resizing a text object without
the blank spaces will not maintain its size when it has been published on the Web.
    ====================
    NOTE:
You can format the text object with a hyperlink to another report, another file or a URL.
    ====================
Now, when the Crystal report is previewed on the Web, the text object that fully eclipses the subreport will prevent the ability to drill down into it.
    Regards
    Girish
