Portal Access through Internet

Dear All,
We have a requirement like the following:
We are developing a portal application. We need to access that through Intranet as well as through Internet.
The problem is that, for Internet (logged in as anonymous user), the look and feel and navigation of the pages are very different from that of Intranet, but the content is the same for both Intranet and Internet. Basically, the JSP templates are different for Internet and Intranet.
Do we need to deploy different applications  to make this happen? Can we customize the navigation menu and look and feel diffently for Internet and Intranet from the same application?
Please suggest any ideas if you have.
Kind regards,
Sreejesh.

Hi Sreejesh,
if you have different JSP templates, it's up to you to create different applications (for different users? roles?! how to differentiate?) or to make the usage of the JSPs of the application itself flexible (so that the application decides at runtime which template will be used).
> Can we customize the navigation menu
In general you can customize the look and feel of the portal: System Administration -- Portal Display -- Theme Editor.
If you want to modify more than colors etc, you should consider using the LightFrameworkPage together with a sef-developed DetNav using the Navigation TagLib, see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/42/ea3a29b28e1bcae10000000a11466f/frameset.htm
Hope it helps

  • Access through internet

    Hi all,
Currently we are having an mainframe application which is accessed through internet. In the website of client there is a link which navigates to this application. Once the user enter the VPN credentials it lets us to access the data.
But currently they want to integrate this application into portal. Without making portal as external facing is there a way by which they can access this application through their website ->portal.
    Thanks,

you need not create a role and a page and all that.....
just create a URL iView for the Portal and preview the iview ...obtain the URL and stick that URL in your website with a proper SSL encryption....
make sure you understand the concepts of SSL and the use of web disptacher if you plan on using the portal on the internet.....also make sure you have the URL filtering so only specific URL's can be accessed via SSL...

  • Restricted Portal Login through internet

    Hi,
Is it possible to restrict portal login through internet for certain group of users of portal. These users, who are LDAP users, need to login to the portal from intranet only
    regards,
    Sujesh

Yes, you will have to develop a JAAS login module to develop this functionality of restricting portal access for specific groups.
Let me know if you need more information.

  • UWL giving "Page Cannot be Displayed" when accessed through Internet

    Dear  all,
We have exposed our portal to Internet and are currently testing the functionality.
All applications are working fine except UWL and Identity Management. UWL is working fine if I'm not using the Webdynpro UI for display.
Later we checked. Only the Webdynpro based applications are having problem when accessing through Internet.
What can be the reason for this? Please help. We are stuck up  because of this.

    Dear Aparna,
       Please check the following things
       1. Enter the Hosts enteries of R/3 and EP server.
       2. Try to ping the r/3 & EP server outside your network.

  • Portal access through a firewall

    Hi there!
Having the default installtion of R2 on a single W2K box, what's the minimal procedure to make this configuration available through a firewall?
I've opened ports 7777-7778 but fail when trying to logon via SSO (host.domain.com:7777/pls/orasso)
Have I missed out to open another port or am I forced to follow the steps of setting up a reversing proxy to have portal-access outside the firewall?
    Cheers
    /Staffan

If they are on different servers, then both are listening on the 7777 port, and you will have to change one of them to use another port (assuming your firewall can only port forward a port to only one host).
If you are running both instances on the same server, then your SSO is accessible via 7777 and your midtier would be on 7778, so your setup as described should be enough (I do the same thing).
If they are running on the one machine, can you access the SSO/INF server directly? http://inf.domain.com:7777 and then http://inf.domain.com:7777/pls/orasso ?

  • How to monitor if portal access through browser is down

I would like to catch the alert before users report Web site not
accessible(HTTP 404). I'm thinking of an unix cron job. But what
should I querry to check the status of Portal?

In case you are still looking for responses to your question --
We've been using a product called "WhatsUp Gold" from Ipswitch
    Inc. (http://www.ipswitch.com/products/whatsup/) to do
monitoring like this for the past few weeks, and so far it's
worked very well. I put a few simple "monitoring" pages on our
web servers to return the status of each of the services, then
we poll these pages every 60 seconds. If we don't get the
expected response back from any of these queries, WhatsUp sends
out emails and pages telling us what machine and what service is
    down.
So far I'm polling the basic HTML service, the database
connection (mod_plsql), the servlet service, JSP, and am working
on a way to poll our report server engines and cluster
machines. (I took the "poll exactly one and only one service at
a time" approach so whenever something crashes (usually no more
than once or twice a day... <sigh>), I know exactly what piece
    went down.)

  • PORTAL ACCESS  THROUGH HTTP and HTTPS BOTH

    Hi,
Is it possible to make the portal listen on both http and https ports at the same time? What is the required configuration for the same?
Please let me know for any other details.
    Any input is highly appreciated.
    regards,

    Hello Chandra,
you can activate SSL in the J2EE engine and then you have both Protocolls avaliable. The documentaiton can be found at <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/f1/2de3be0382df45a398d3f9fb86a36a/frameset.htm">Configuring the Use of SSL on the SAP J2EE Engine</a>.

  • SCM Collaborative portal - works internally but  NOT through Internet

I am posting this question this form as you have very good knowledge of portal and I believe  underlying technology of  SCM collaboration Portal and EP are same.
I am working on Collaborate planning in APO (SCM) - sharing SCM planning books over internet so that collaborators (customers) can access our data.  I enabled all the required services using SICF and published services using SE80.
Portal works correctly in Intranet (with in our network), But doesnot work in Internet, link/url doesn't not bring up log on screen and get error no page found.
We are on SCM5.0 (Netwaver 7.0) and using integrated ITS.
What other settings required to access through internet?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Access to the time capsule harddrive through internet.

    Hi everyone,
I bought a few months ago a Time capsule and it is working perfeclty as a network and hard drive under. It is connected to the router unde a  bridge mode.
My prooblem is coming when I want to access through internet with my Macbook  to my time capsule as it is not possible but according the time capsule specification it is possible to have acces to the harddrive through internet. So it means I have to change soemthing in the setp up on the router (P-2812HNU-F1) or in the time capsule.
Can anyone help me to set up the time capsule and the router  accordingly to be able to have acces to the harddrivethrough internet?
    Thanks

Have you tried using BTMM and iCloud method?
That is the only method Apple provisioned on the TC and apple network.
    http://www.apple.com/au/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
If you are having issues you need to tell us more..
Sometimes it seems the TC in bridge will not work.. if that is the case, then you must see if you can rearrange your network so the TC is the main router.
Or you need to use a manual access method.
This requires using a static public IP (Check with your ISP.. this is by far the best method) or use a dyndns service.. and port forward 548 TCP to the TC.. there are thousands of posts and youtube videos with the info. Just look up "remote access time capsule"
This is a good post to start with.

    Hi,
Maybe it can be a security problem. Do you have your firewall/proxy well defined?
Can you access to server from Internet (for example, using ping command)?
From SE80 transaction, Utilities --> Options --> ITS server, verify your configuration (HTTP/HTTPS, ports, ...).
    Hope this helps,

Yedterday we done same activity, but this time it has taken morethan 40minutes process. After 40minutes it displayed "Internet Explore cannot display the webpage" again. Hi Raju,
With the concept called External Facing Portal you can use the SAP NetWeaver Portal to expose applications, services and information over the Internet.

  • CIC WebClient through Internet

    Hi group
Can the CIC WebClient be accessed through internet? If yes , why and if no, why not?
    Waiting for your early reply
    Thanks and regards
    Debolina

Yes you can Access WebClient through Internet using ITS
You should have Installed the Internet Transaction Server (ITS) to provide access to the local SAP CRM system or to another SAP R/3 system with CRM plug-ins
For more information about the SAP ITS, see the SAP Help Portal (help.sap.com) under SAP NetWeaver ® SAP Web Application Server ®  SAP NetWeaver Components ® ITS / SAP@Web Studio (BC-FES-ITS)
You can access it through Internet if you have..
    Started the ITS
Noted the URL of the ITS
Defined your logical systems using transaction BD54
Defined your Remote Function Call (RFC) destinations using transaction SM59
Assigned RFC destinations to logical systems using transaction BD97
    Procedure
From the SAP Easy Access menu, choose Interaction Center ® Interaction Center WebClient ® Administration ® System Parameters ® Define Transaction Launcher Logical Systems and URLs.
