Portal Content Navigation

Hi
I am in the process of building a new Portal for a client and at present I am very new to the Product although have already built a basic one. One of the requirements is that they want to hold documentation (in the form of Word and Adobe docs) on the Portal that the users can access. What I need to implement is a structure within Portal so that the user can drill down on various areas to get to the documents that they need. This could take the form of a Windows Explorer type of view where they can click on the required category which would then expand out the categories below it. Drilling down to the lower levels will eventually get to the level where they are able to view all of the documents.
I have looked at Instant Portal and see that there is functionality there that matches what we are trying to do and have seen other Portals where they have included this functionality but I'm a little lost as I've been unable to identify in the documentation what we need to do.
So I'm not sure if this is in the correct topic area but would welcome any advice on implementing this in Portal.
Thanks in advance for any help
Kevin

Hi Arnaud
Further to the progression of this I have made some good progress and ready to deploy the menu structure into our environment.
One more question relates to how you store the uploaded files. I am intending to have an area at each of the various topic areas in order for certain users to upload training material e.g. Oracle tutor docs etc. How do you replicate the structure in the db to that of the menu so that users can store files at these levels. Essentially they will drill down to the lowest level of menu and here they will see a list of available files or an area to upload files using Oracle Drive (WebDAV). I was thinking of creating these as Personal Pages and then linking these to them but not sure if I can allow other users to get access to them. I've been digging through the Portal documentation but haven't found any pointers yet.
How do you recommend deploying a menu structure in Portal so as to allow storing of content in these areas. I have already installed Oracle Drive and getting my head around how that interracts with the Portal architecture.
Thanks again
Kevin

  • Javascript error in Content Admin- Portal Content- iview Navigation window

    Hi friends,
We are in the process of portal migration and as a part of this, we installed NW04 SPS 14 using Rapid Installer and then upgraded it to SPS 18. The components we upgraded are:
    Java component
    Portal Platform
    Knowledge Management and Collaboration
    Adobe Document Services
    BI UDI
    BI MMR
After upgradation, when we logged in to portal, we were not able to see/browse Portal pages/Roles/Iviews/Worksets (PCD Contents) under Content Administration->Portal Content.
Again, whichever window is there for navigation of PCD, we are not able to see the contents of PCD.For e.g. System Administration -> System Configuration.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

    Folks,
We have a km navigation iview and want to open the contents in the portal content area instead of opening the links in a new window. I don't find any configurable options. What are the development effort options and how big is the effort? Any hint will be very helpful.

    Hi Tridib,
see /thread/87593 [original link is broken] for the example of external links. If I'm right in this, the same would hold for other renderers.

  • How to Open Portal Content by navigating Content Admin ?

I am a beginner to EP Development.
In one of the document, it says " Open the Portal Content Studio by navigating to Content Adminstration -> Portal Content".
I am using 2004s Full Java Edition downloaded from SDN.

Please do the following step by step.
    1. Logon as administrator to your portal.
    2. Go to Content Administration. In the option portal content right click to get the option New -> Iview.
    3. Select the option SAP Web dynpro Iview in the list of Iviews and give the respective properties.
Is your WD component fetching data from backend. If yes create system before creating the Iview. To create system search for "Portal Integration of the Web Dynpro Application" on help.sap.com and you will get the exact steps.
Do assign points if this helps.
Please award points if this helps.

    Hi,
Check the content area iview in the Desktop inner page in framework page.If this iview is not there then it will not show the content area.
If desktop inner page is deeted then also you will not see the content area.
If so please add the content area iview indside the Desktop inner page then you can see the content area for the users.
Content area iview will be available under the following path of the portal
Content Administration > Portal Content > Content provided by sap > Admin Interfaces > Admin Iview Templates > Content Area (view).

  • BI content with folder structure in portal Content Area

    HI Dear Friends,
I have  a requirement in my current project where i am integrating the BI reports with SAP EP.Iviews are associated with BI Reports. In the portal on clicking workset it should display folders in the portal content area with Icons instead of in Detail navigation .On click of the displayed folders it should display its sub content with Icons.
I tried in all ways but later i came to know there there is a SAP BI business package which would come up with predifined iviews associated with BI. By importing this business package we can dispaly the  BI content in the portal in a folder format .
I am using BI and EP 7.0 versions.
    Ratnakar

    Ratnakar,
Let me understand your requirements, correct me if I understood it wrong. You need to display BI reports in Folder structure that is similar when you log on through BEx analyzer or WAD. If this is correct, then you need to upload the BI Role which contain all the required Folder structures and it BI Queries or BI Queries url assigned to that role.Once you upload this role on to portal , you will see folder structure on PCA.
    Example
    BI Reports  - Folder 1
      I--> FI reports  -- Subfolder 1
      I            I--> AP reports 1
      I--> CO reports  -- Subfolder 2
                   I--> Cost Report 1
    Hope it helps,
    Cheers,
    Balaji

  • Portal integration: Navigation from Web Dynpro to other iviews

    Hello,
I am trying to implement a navigation from my web dynpro application (which is embedded in our corporate Netweaver portal) to another portal iview.
Therefor I use the "absolute navigation" functionality:
    CALL METHOD lo_portal_manager->navigate_absolute
      EXPORTING
        navigation_target  = 'pcd:portal_content/BOSCH_CONTENT/INTERNAL/CONTENT/MY_WORK/MANAGEMENT_SUPPORT/ORDERINGS/PAGES/rb.inside.page.EWORKS_PROCUREMENT'
By hitting a button in the web dynpro this functionality is executed but nothing happens.
The iview defined as target is not called.
The SAP documentation (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/de/18/f96f4132f15c58e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm) says, the "Absolute address, path for page or iView in the portal content directory. " should be defined as target.
    Address, for example ROLES://portal_content/...
I also copied the address from the portal content directory, but it always starts with "pcd:portal_content" and not with "ROLES://portal_content/".
Is this an issue of the portal or of the method call?
Thank you a lot in advance...
    Regards
    Stefan Löhlein

    Hi,
1.first check if popup blokcer is is disabled for the portal url you are testing with.(This is asuming you are navigating to the iview as an external window).
2.Make sure you are testing this in the context of portal .ie you are runnning the web dynpro within portal and not outside portal as an application.
3.The iview that you would be prefixing with ROLES:// should have the permissions set for the user you are testing with.

  • Portal content translation with custom theme

    Dear Gents,
I am experiencing a very strange problem.
I have tried to change some english iview names to arabic using portal content translation. Since I wont understand properly what each word means, I used hindi names instead of arabic.
    So far so good.
For this test user, I am using a brand new portal desktop with copied framework page.
Everything works lovely when using SAP standard themes in my custom desktop But when I use my own theme, the theme does not load. I can see the roles and full navigation hierarchy, but without theme images or colors..
Has anyone faced the similar issue before? Please guide
    Regards,
    Ankur Agarwal

    Hi Ankur,
so when you log into the portal by using your theme than you will see your desktop but without any images and colors of your theme, isn't it?
Are you sure you have define a proper desktop rule?
So this desktop rule switch to your Portal Desktop?
The desktop is assignt to the portal framework page and the theme?
And the theme itself is stored successfully during the saving process?
So perhaps open your theme once more and save it once more.
But wait until you have really saved your theme. This takes time.....
During saving of the theme all the needed css files will be created.
    Best regards
    Frank

  • Portal Content Translation -  missing items in worklist

Hello all, first post but I am sure not the last. Here is my problem:
I am trying to translate Portal Content in MSS from english to french using Portal Content Translation, but certain items that I need to translate don't appear in the worklist.
What is puzzling about this is that some of these items have a "Name" field attached to them when I go directly in the PCD...Why don't they appear in the worklist?
For example, one of the items I need to change is the folder name "Performance Management", which, in french, has an unacceptable title to the client (this name appears in portal navigation so it's a biggie).  When I log in french and check the "Name" field directly, it of course has the english name in there and changing it will affect the english side.
The master language is set to english and the MSS role i am using is a copy of the standard delivered. I have tried using the standard role in the worklist, but I still get the same number of items.
How am i supposed to make the change?

    Hi,
Please try in Portal Translation Worklist -> Translation Worklist Coordination
in the property editor of the worklist change Resolve References to yes.

  • Open KM Link(to KM Resource) in portal content area

    Hello,
Open KM Link (not external link) created in  KM to html/htm  page located in KMcontent in Portal content area.
Is there any way can I open KM link created in same window (Portal content area) not in new window? By default it always opens in new window? From these links I created KM Navigation iView layoutset as LinkList explorer.
    Thanks

    Hi Mark,
As mentioned by VS..look into the iview property and then checkout the "Launch In" or "Display State" (sry cannot remember by hard) and set it according to what VS indicated above. This way, when you click on the iview from your Portal (not preview), it will display in the content area.
    Additional info on iview properities.

  • Problem: Portal Content Structure (Javascript error: object required)

    Hello,
i have a problem with my Internet Explorer 7 and the Enterprise Portal 6.0 SP 16. After the login, the Navigation Structure of the Portal Content isn't shown, after a while a error message pops up saying: error: object required.
The Portal is functional in Firefox 3.0 so i suggest that the problem is based on the internet explorer Browser.
Maybe someone has an idea and can help me resolving this annoying problem. Java from Sun is installed an activated in IE.
    Thank you!

    solved!
something really timewasting. I just had to add the site as a trusted site in IE. But it only works if you youse the NAME e.g. www.sapportal60:50000/irj/portal, using the ip adress dosn't work and that's what i did in the first place.

  • Export list of portal content to excel for comparison

    Hi.
I have the problem that I have to support a SAP Portal where Dev, Qas and Prod systens are not consistent. Many objects do not exists in Dev or are renamed. So I like to compare the portal content hierarchy of these systems e.g. with help of excel. But I do not know a way to export the portal content hierarchy or a list of objects used. Any ideas about this?
    Regards,
    Nils

Nils, Im famliar with the point of adding numbers to id's of PCD duplicates, thats not the point. If you will transport the whole content, including roles and worksets, you will notice the portal navigation will point you to the "proper" objects, since those are containing links to the correct id's and, assuming your import is consistent. Delete the whole custom PCD content on target first, import your stuff in a clean state from reference, thats it.
Indeed, its not an excuse to keep PCD dirty, apparently you need to work on it nevertheless. And:
To have an automatic sync is not neccessary. It is more or less to get a checklist where to look.
I got your point, but following that logic you also dont need any excel sheets, you can do it manually. I guess what you was thinking about is a tool, what shows you differences or in other words potential problems in the PCD of different EP's. So, there is no such tool. Additionally if you write one on your own, wouldnt it be nice to correct the differences instead of manual PCD explorer or transport actions?
Your requirement is well known for me, people are raising this e.g. they want to point in source of custom WDAs to portal components over the PCD Id, in that case it has to be identically on all systems for clear reasons.
    cheers
