Portal Content Translation

Hi All,
I have a PDK iview.I created  a Worklist for translating the name of the iView and the text strings in the resource bundle.I changed the text in the resource bundle to German. Finally I Published the Worklist.
I also placed a small peice of code in my JSP using Java API for ResourceBundle and a print statement for printing the text from the resource bundle file in my project. This particual text i have already translated to German in the Worklist translation as explained above.
I then changed my browser language to German and refreshed the browser.I could see the the iView name which I had translated in German language but the text from the resource bundle still appears in English and not in German.
Could you please help me getting this text printed in my Browser language.
I urgently need help on this.
Warm Regards
Saurabh

HI Lukas,
Thanks for the reply.
I checked with another User ID where his Locale was set to english.I changed the browser language to German but everything still displayed in English.
Then I set the language for the User ID to blank. This time the text changed to German.
This means that in the Language hierarchy Component Locale is not set,Portal Mandatory Locale is not set and ofcourse the User Locale was already set to blank. So the Browser language setting took effect.
I then executed my iView. The iView name was displayed in German but the text string "Welcome" in my properties file (resource bundle)which i had translated to "Welcome German" using the Portal Content Translation still displayed as "Welcome".
I used the normal  JAVA code for getting the resource bundle and the called it getString () method to display the Welcome string from my resource bundle.I have just one resource bundle in my par file.
I am not sure where it is going wrong. Is it the code which i have written is wrong ?
Wht should be the correct code?
Am i suppose to make some other configuration as well.
I have only one resource bundle in my par file.I suppose the Content Translation application in the portal would create another resource bundle for the languge in which i translated my text.
Is this the correct assumption or will i have to create additional resource bundles in my par file.
Warm Regards
Saurabh

  • Portal Content Translation - Unable to see the changed iView name, desc etc

    Hi Experts,
I am using Portal Content Translation to translate the name of iViews, roles, iview description etc from English to Spanish. I have followed the method mentioned in the below mentioned link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/74/641640b7b6dd5fe10000000a155106/frameset.htm
I have successfully executed all the processes mentioned in the document. It includes:
    Creating Worklists and add content
    Generate translation data
    Release for translation
Search worklist and define source and target language
    Load worklist for translation
    Translate worklist
    Make worklist as translated
    Publish translation
I am able to publish the publish translation.
The above document says that "Publishing a translation means that the translated text strings are written back to the objects to which they belong (for example, the translated title of a role to the role object stored in the Portal Content Directory). "
In my case I have translated the name, description of an iView. After publishing am I supposed to see the name & description of iView in Spanish in the same iView (source iView).
I have not created any target iView. Am I supposed to create any target iView?
I am unable to see iView name, description in Spanish.
Can you please let me know what is going wrong?
    Thanks
    Stuart

    Hi Stuart,
please set the user's language in UME. You can do this in the personalization dialog (see SAP Library section <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/f8/64e93b3a612d52e10000000a11402f/frameset.htm">Setting Portal Preferences</a>. Assign the portal role "eu_core_role" to your user if you do not see the "personalize" link in the portal masthead.
In what language does the iview name appear if you do not select Spanish language?
Please check if the name of the iView appears in Spanish language in PCD after you switched portal language to Spanish.
    Best regards,
    Martin

  • Portal content translation with custom theme

    Dear Gents,
I am experiencing a very strange problem.
I have tried to change some english iview names to arabic using portal content translation. Since I wont understand properly what each word means, I used hindi names instead of arabic.
    So far so good.
For this test user, I am using a brand new portal desktop with copied framework page.
Everything works lovely when using SAP standard themes in my custom desktop But when I use my own theme, the theme does not load. I can see the roles and full navigation hierarchy, but without theme images or colors..
Has anyone faced the similar issue before? Please guide
    Regards,
    Ankur Agarwal

    Hi Ankur,
so when you log into the portal by using your theme than you will see your desktop but without any images and colors of your theme, isn't it?
Are you sure you have define a proper desktop rule?
So this desktop rule switch to your Portal Desktop?
The desktop is assignt to the portal framework page and the theme?
And the theme itself is stored successfully during the saving process?
So perhaps open your theme once more and save it once more.
But wait until you have really saved your theme. This takes time.....
During saving of the theme all the needed css files will be created.
    Best regards

  • Portal Content Translation - Transport

    Hello
We created some worklist in Portal Content Translation to translate the texts in roles, worksets and iViews from English (source) to German (end user).
Now, we need to transport these worklists to the Test Portal and we tried to follow the steps as described in the help below:
    [Performing Language Transports|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/f8/a4c0b28ab7324d835176fdbbb28c3e/frameset.htm]
    It did not work:
    1) We created a Package with "text_only" property, filled it with the worklists and selected the language to be transported in "Language Transport" menu, but the deployment failed.
    2) We created a Package without "text_only" property, filled it with the worklists and did not select any language to be transported. Once imported, the worklists were in the Test Portal, but the translation to german was not in them.
    3) We created a Package similar to the one in step 2, but selected the language to be transported in the "Language Transport" menu. The result was the same we had in step 2.
So, what must we do to transport not only the worklists, but also the translations created in the Development Portal?
    Thanks in advance, regards!
    Jon

    Hi,
I'm not sure if I did understand you correctly, but it seems that you want to transport the translation worklist? To transport the translated content, you'll have to do
    1. create a translation worklist and assign the PCD objects (iviews, pages, roles)
    2. translate the content
    3. publish the translated content
    4. create a transport package containing the PCD objects translated and transport this package (eg: text_only).

  • Portal Content Translation -  missing items in worklist

Hello all, first post but I am sure not the last. Here is my problem:
I am trying to translate Portal Content in MSS from english to french using Portal Content Translation, but certain items that I need to translate don't appear in the worklist.
What is puzzling about this is that some of these items have a "Name" field attached to them when I go directly in the PCD...Why don't they appear in the worklist?
For example, one of the items I need to change is the folder name "Performance Management", which, in french, has an unacceptable title to the client (this name appears in portal navigation so it's a biggie).  When I log in french and check the "Name" field directly, it of course has the english name in there and changing it will affect the english side.
The master language is set to english and the MSS role i am using is a copy of the standard delivered. I have tried using the standard role in the worklist, but I still get the same number of items.
How am i supposed to make the change?

    Hi,
Please try in Portal Translation Worklist -> Translation Worklist Coordination
in the property editor of the worklist change Resolve References to yes.

  • URL iView content translation not working using Portal Content Traslation

    Hi All,
I am using Portal Content Translation to translate text of URL iView from English to Spanish. I am unable to do so. I have followed the below mentioned link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/74/641640b7b6dd5fe10000000a155106/frameset.htm
I have used Content Admin -> Portal Content Translation -> Translation Worlist Coordination to:
    1) Generate worklist and add content
    2) Generte translation data
    3) Release for translation
After this, I am using Content Admin -> Portal Content Translation -> Worklist Translation for following:
    1) Load worklist for translation
    2) Translate worklist
I am facing difficulty in Translate Worklist. The step by step method followed by me are as below:
I am clicking on Content Admin -> Portal Content Translation -> Worklist Translation.
I am searching Translation Worklist and selecting my Worklist
After this I am selecting following
    Source Language - English
    Target Language - Spanish
Then I am clicking on 'Load for Translation' button. New screen appears. In this screen, Translatable Text table is shown:
    It shows following
    Number
    Source Text <EN>
    Target Text <ES>
    Status
    Object ID
In Status I can see 'Not Translated'. I click on Next for three times as there are three line Number (0, 1 & 2)
The Status does not change. It remains 'Not Translated'.
When I am using following combination
    Source Language - Raw Texts
    Target Language - Raw Texts.
I click on Next for three times as there are three line Number (0, 1 & 2). The status changes to Translated.
I do not know what is going wrong with my process while selecting Source Language - English & Target Language - Spanish .
I have another question. I have to translate content of entire URL iView. How I can change the whole content of URL iView.
In the source text I can NOT see the contents of URL iView.
    Thanks
    Stuart

    Hi Prakash,
Did you check whether the translation has been done completely in PCD inspector? Some times you would have translated using Portal translation but it will not be written in the locale of the iView property.  Then we have to set it manually in the PCD inspector.
    Follow the procedure.
    1. navigate to System Administration -> Support -> Portal Content Directory -> PCD Inspector
This will open the PCD inspector.
    2. "Browse Into" the iview where you have developed it.
    3. Click on the "All Props" for the iView which you need to translate.
This will open the Properties in new window
    4. Check the property "com.sap.portal.pcm.title" what is maintained in Chinese? if it still displaying in English text against Chinese, Then you need to  Edit the property for chinese and have to give the actual chinese word.
Note  : I hope you would have selected "Raw Text"  for Source language and "Chinese" as Target language. Pls confirm on this.
    Thanks,
    Mahendran B.

  • Objects not visible in Portal Worklist Translation

    Hi All,
I am encountering a strange issue in Portal Content translation for ESS. I need to edit the Overview workset to French properly. I have created the worklist and have added the workset to it. After adding, I followed the procedure below:
    - Generate Translatiion Data
    - Release for Translation
Then, when I go to Worklist translation and select my worklist, in statistic details table itself, I see Total column as 2 (i.e. without any workset object)
After selecting src detsn lang, on Load for Translation, I just see the worklist name (1 for name, 1 for description) in the src destn table. There is no workset object in the source destination table to be selected for translating the text.
However, when I try to create dummy new workset and add it to new worklist. Then things work perfectly fine as it should be. I have even tried adding Benefits & Payment workset but no luck (i.e. same after addition not shown on "load for translation"). I am successfully able to add and see Career and Devpt workset (also any of the iViews) on "load for translation" for changing the text.
Is there any property for to be set for workset (copy of standard ESS workset) ?
Problem is objects are getting added in Translation worklist coordination but are not shown to edit src destn text on "load for translation".
    Help is appreciated.

    Hi Udit Govil or anyone,
I have the same problem.  Does anyone have any solution on this ?

  • Deadlock while translating portal content

    Hi guys,
recently I came along a very strange thing. I created some portal pages . Afterwards I created a translation worklist. During the creation of the translation worklist the portal added the translation worklist itself to the translation worklist (similar to transport packages). Because it has been the first time I used the translation worklist I did not mind.
I added my portal pages and started the translation process. After translation I marked the translation worklist as translated (translation worklist is still in read-only mode). Finally I wanted to publish the translation worklist. But publishing the translation worklist failed.
A look into the log files showed me a <b>com.sap.portal.pcd.translation.app.TranslationApplicationException</b>: Failed to releae translation worklist. Cannot import in text only mode: object <MY TRANSLATION WORKLIST>.
Well, that looks like a deadlock to me. I cannot remove the translation worklist object from the worklist because the worklist is still in read-only mode and I cannot publish the translation worklist (to go back in edit mode) because of the damn translation worklist object still in read only mode.
Anyone a good idea how I can resolve the issue? I really do not want to go through all the translations again.
By the way we are on NW 2004s SP09.
    Best regards,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
I'm wondering if you did not missed some information of the default.trc. Is the error not rather
... Cannot import in text only mode: object <MY TRANSLATION WORKLIST> <b>does not exist</b>.
This can happen if after creating the translation worklist you changed the name, ID or prefix of the translation worklist itself or a superior folder.
So you would need to undo your renaming and try again. Also, I would open an OSS message as this behavior is in my opinion a bug.
    Hope it helps,
    Robert

  • Portal content in Arabic for limited users

    Hello Colleagues
We are about to implement ESS on EP.In our backend system ECC 6.0 data is available in English.
Our client requirement is that for certain users Portal content should be available in Arabic.I have gone through some threads in which we can change the Portal language to Arabic for all with Portal Translation .But my question is whether it is feasible for limited users as rest of users will access Portal in English.
    Best Regards

    Hi,
Based on the Language set on UME standard things will change in portal. To translate your Custom application language in Portal then follow the below link and translate it manually . So that only users with Arabic language set can see portal in Arabic Language.

  • Browsing ms-word document directly from portal content window.

    Hi,
I must make ms-word document directly browsing from portal content window.
Is there a blog mention about it?
    Thanks.

First, thanks for your reply. It's greatly appreciated. However, the level of your response fails to address the scope of the original question. Your first supposition is incorrect, that most MS Word docs copy uneventfully into the body of Gmail emails. This only applies to the most basic of MS Word docs (i.e., those utilizing minimal formatting, such as basic letters, etc.) and otherwise runs contrary to dozens of online complaints posted by users such as myself (though not on the Firefox website). Second, everyone knows you can add an attachment to Gmail emails. In this case, the recipient will not accept attachments of any kind, and has therefore asked that the content be copied directly into the email body. This is not uncommon in these cases. Third, the very nature of Notepad makes it unable to translate/interpret any documents beyond the most basic, hence its name: Notepad. Fourth, apparently this problem is rare or virtually non existent with other browsers, as all the complaints online appear to be Firefox related. Again, however, I appreciate you taking a stab at this.

  • (ESS) FPM applications, cfg DCs & Enterprise Portal / Portal Content DC

    Hi everyone,
I just replied to the Road Map Step Label Changes Issue thread in the Java Programming forum. Since I had a very specific question that seems more suitable in this forum, I decided to post it again over here.
    short introduction
The SAP ESS SC contains FPM (Floor Plan Manager) applications that you can modify at runtime from within the portal using the Self-Service Administrator portal role. The point is that this content is also contained in the SAP_ESS SC in NWDI. It's contained in all those cfg DCs. They basically contain a (zip)archive that contains other (zip)archives that contain different XML files that eventually describe the FPM application. So what happens is that you can modify the FPM applications at runtime, but your changes are overwritten when the cfg DC is deployed afterwards.
    the details... and the questions...
Concerning those cfg DCs. They're a very specific type of DC. The type is "Enterprise Portal" and the subtype is "Portal Content". In NWDS, this is described in the following XML file: C:\Program Files\SAP\IDE\IDE70\eclipse\plugins\com.sap.ide.eclipse.component.provider_2.0.0\componentTypes.xml When I was using NWDS 7.0 SP12, this particular type of DC was not visible (if I remember it correctly), i.e. I could not create a new DC of this type. NWDS SP12 also didn't contain the necessary plugin, com.sap.portal.pcd.ide.eclipse.nwdi.ui.NewPortalContentWizard, as described in the same XML file (or at least I couldn't find it). Since I installed NWDS SP14, the plugin is present and I can create this type of DC myself. But that doesn't help me that much, since the wizard just creates some empty DC and I don't have a clue how to populate it with the content of the FPM application. Unfortunately I also don't have a clue about how to modify the existing cfg DCs in SAP_ESS.
BTW, some changes, e.g. a small textual change, is relatively easy to do: unzip the archive(s) in the cfg DC, modify the text in one of the XML files (for some reason the translation of the roadmap steps are present 4 times, if my memory doesn't fail on me) and zip everything again. This works fine for me.
    the $1 million question...
Obviously, what I really like to know: how to modify the FPM applications on the portal using the Self-Service Administrator role (that's easy) and export it to a suitable archive that can be imported in the (SAP_ESS) cfg DCs? As long as this is not possible, meaning I don't have a clue how to do it, I'm forced to deploy the modified FPM applications, which I exported as an epa file, after each NWDI transport. And this is not very practical...
I hope my (probably a bit too complex) explanation makes any sense.
If someone else knows more about this subject or how to deal with it, please let me know. tnx!
    Kind regards,
    /Sigiswald

    Hi,
Did you ever found a suitable solution for this. We are facing the same problem at the moment.
