Portal Development Issues
Okay, this is a BIG general question for ANYONE out there...
We are developing an Internet application (note - Internet, not intranet) that allows customers associated with clients of ours to sign up for services that we resell. We currently have a portal-style setup, not using Oracle Portal, that is dynamically generated depending on the user, the user's organization, the service that they are currently looking at, and the time of year (some services are seasonal).
It seems to me that Oracle Portal allows for a lot of flexibility in content, but the layouts are generally static. This isn't going to work for us. We can't afford to get into the business of creating different page layouts for for each individual client and each individual service that we offer. It would be an absolute nightmare to manage!
What we'd like to do is to make the entire page layout dynamic. The logos, the colors, the tabs available to the user, etc. depending on the client that the user is affiliated with. Much of this is possible, I know, but I haven't seen documentation that says that the level of customization to Portal that we need is possible. We need a lot more control over layouts than it seems Portal wants to give us, and we don't want to give users the level of customization that Portal allows.
We'd like to use many of the portlets available, and we would really like to take advantage of the reporting available through Portal, but we really don't know if it's going to give us the flexibility we need.
I guess the bottom line is... how much flexibility does Oracle Portal REALLY give you and is anyone really using it in the way that my organization would like to use it?
Thanks.

you can use the adminconsole or the PS commands to deploy & undeploy the portlets from the container.
Hope it helps you.

SrikanthHi Srikanth,
Thanks for your feedback. I now see that indeed my 1G is not enough. I already requested it to be extended with 1G (preferably 2G :0 ).
And I see that alas I need to use the adminconsole. Wonder how other developers handle this.

Oracle 11g - External Table/SQL Developer Issue?
==============================
I hope this is the right forum for this issue, if not let me, where to go.
We are using Oracle 11g (11.2.0.1.0) on (Platform : solaris[tm] oe (64-bit)), Sql Developer 3.0.04
We are trying to use oracle external table to load text files in .csv format. Here is our data look like.
======================
Date1,date2,Political party,Name, ROLE
20-Jan-66,22-Nov-69,Democratic,"John ", MMM
22-Nov-70,20-Jan-71,Democratic,"John Jr.",MMM

9-Aug-72,20-Jan-75,Republican,Henry,MMM
------ ALL NULL -- record
20-Jan-80,20-Jan-89,Democratic,"Donald Smith",MMM
======================
Our Expernal table structures is as follows
CREATE TABLE P_LOAD
DATE1 VARCHAR2(10),
DATE2 VARCHAR2(10),
POL_PRTY VARCHAR2(30),
P_NAME VARCHAR2(30),
P_ROLE VARCHAR2(5)
ORGANIZATION EXTERNAL
(TYPE ORACLE_LOADER
DEFAULT DIRECTORY P_EXT_TAB_D
ACCESS PARAMETERS (
RECORDS DELIMITED by NEWLINE
SKIP 1
FIELDS TERMINATED BY "," OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' LDRTRIM
REJECT ROWS WITH ALL NULL FIELDS
MISSING FIELD VALUES ARE NULL
DATE1 CHAR (10) Terminated by "," ,
DATE2 CHAR (10) Terminated by "," ,
POL_PRTY CHAR (30) Terminated by "," ,
P_NAME CHAR (30) Terminated by "," OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' ,
P_ROLE CHAR (5) Terminated by ","
LOCATION ('Input.dat')
REJECT LIMIT UNLIMITED;
It created successfully using SQL Developer
Here is the issue.
It is not loading the records, where fields are enclosed in '"' (Rec # 2,3,4,7)
It is loading all NULL value record (Rec # 6)
*** If we remove the '"' from input data, it loads all records including all NULL records
Log file has
KUP-04021: field formatting error for field P_NAME
KUP-04036: second enclosing delimiter not found
KUP-04101: record 2 rejected in file ....
Our questions
Why did "REJECT ROWS WITH ALL NULL FIELDS" not working?
Why did Terminated by "," OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' not working?
Any idea?
Thanks in helping.I don't think this is a SQLDeveloper issue. You will get better answers in the Database - General or perhaps SQL and PL/SQL forums.

Report Development issue: I have queryy of 1600 line but report builder 1320 lines . But i m can't create views becasue many parameters are used in it please give solution how can i paste 1600 line in report bulder.
you would have to build a dynamic statements that will make up your query.
e.g.
select &column
from &from_clause
where &where_clause;where:
column is a user parameter that makes up of columns
from_clause is a user parameter that makes up of tables involves
where_clause is a user parameter that makes up of condition statements
and the above parameters can be defined on the report triggers AFTER PARAMETER FORM. -

Portal development requirements and basics??
helo everyone,
I am student and I read a article regarding portal development and I want to start learning this new technology. My Basic questions are
1)What are the technical requirements to develop portals with PDK?
2)Is that a compulsion that we need Oracle 9iAS installed if we have to develop portals?
3)And in which technologies(like JSP,EJB etc) do we required to have good knowledge before developing web portals?
4)Can anyone tell me the basic and good way to start learning this new technology
I kindly request you to answer my questions,,PLEASE:
with regards,
[email protected]You can build your portlets using J2EE (JSPs, servlets, HTML, Java classes) or PL/SQL.
If you're building Web providers (J2EE portlets), you don't need a portal installation, you can register them on Oracle9iAS Portal Studio.
To build portal pages, yes, you'll need to have a portal installation.
You find more information on portlet building options on Oracle9iAS Portal Studio. -
Oracle Portal Development from different geographic locations
Hello,
Have anyone done the development with Oracle Portal from different geographic locations, our customer want to know is there a way we can develop Oracle portal application from different geographic locations and merge it one place.
One reason is because the portal is in the database. If you have two separate groups work to build a single portal, it reason that each team would have their own installation. When these two groups are done (or periodically), the development efforts must be merged into the final complete portal. Is this possible using Oracle Portal (merging portal installations)?
Second reason is that typically other systems owned by the customer are exposed or accessed by portlets. Access to these portlets would probably be required for development. If nothing else then for unit testing.
How do you typically see off-shoring done with Oracle Portal, if at all? Or am I incorrect in my thinkings. How does the Portal meta-data stores the portal configurations is it possible to merge different portal schema into one and make it the main portal environment.
Please let me know if anyone successfully done this. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Nilesh Pawar.Hi Nilesh,
you better can give a try to XI (Exchange Infrastucture) which also is an important part of Netweaver Platform.
If you are so keen to pursue EP, then you should have a minimum knowledge on Java, Core java, JSPs, API etc.
And you can manage with webDyn pro applications where the need for coding is only 10%.
But most of the ABAP developers find it easy to move to XI rather than EP.
Hope this was helpful for you.
Do offer points if you like.
All the best and you made a good decision .
Future seems good with Netweaver.
