Portal Event Handler

Hi,
This is regarding passing portlet parameters to the event handler. Whenever an event is raised, I have been using a javascript function, which constructs the URL to the portal event handler and then submits the form. The url would look like
http://host:port/portal/event?event_Param=xyz&_eventName_event1=event1
(The query strings for dad, schema etc are not shown in the url above, but they are aslo passed).
Is this the only way that one raises an event? Is there a method by which I can pass the the portlet parameters hidden in the request, so that they dont show up in the URL string?
I tried doing a "POST" form submission, but the portal didnot respond to this action.
Thanks.
Jitendra

Hi,
As there is no such event for item published, we can detect the level of publication of the corresponding file using the
SPFile.Level property in the ItemUpdated event, there will be three levels:
Published, Draft, Checkout.
Here is a code demo about how to check whether a file is published in ItemUpdated event:
public override void ItemUpdated(SPItemEventProperties properties)
base.ItemUpdated(properties);
SPListItem item = properties.ListItem;
SPFile file = item.File;
//if the file is published
if (file.Level == SPFileLevel.Published)
Feel free to reply if there are still any questions.
Thanks

    Please let me know..how to evoke event handling in iviews..thru sap netweaver in ep.

    Hi,
    For iview event handling you can use EPCF (<b>Enterprise Portal Client Framework (EPCF) provides an infrastructure for scripting used in iViews and by the portal</b>.)

  • Event Handling in Abstract Portal Component

    Hi Friends,
    I am using HTMLB Classlib in an Abstract Portal Component to develop a Dropdownlistbox. Now I want to handle the event of change of selection in this dropdown. However, this event is not getting captured. Sample code is as follows:
    public class dropdownsimple extends AbstractPortalComponent
                           public void onClick(Event event)
                           public void doContent(IPortalComponentRequest request, IPortalComponentResponse response)
                                                    IPageContext myContext1 = PageContextFactory.createPageContext(request, response);
              Form myForm = myContext1.createFormDocument("CRMForm");
              GridLayout myGrid = new GridLayout();
              DropdownListBox drp = new DropdownListBox("drp");
              drp.addItem("Key 1","Item 1");
              drp.addItem("Key 2","Item 2");
              drp.setOnSelect("onClick");
                                                     myGrid.addComponent(1, 1, drp);
              myForm.addComponent(myGrid);
              myContext1.render();
    I am able to see the dropdown box along with values when I preview the PAR iView created from this component. Please let me know how to capture the event of change of selection in the dropdown?

    Hi,
    Change this line
    drp.setOnSelect("onClick");
    to
    drp.setOnSelect("click");
    and leave the line
    public void onClick(Event event)
    as it is, and it should work just fine.
    I.e., if you name your event "fooBar", the event handler should be named "onFooBar"
    Cheers,

  • How to trigger navigation to a portal iView from server side event handler

    Hi,
    I am modifying the workset map application. I have created custom URL links under each iView which should navigate to different iViews depending on some business logic. So I had to provide a custom event handler for these iVIew links and the path to the next iview is dynamically created by the code in the event handler. Once the new PCD path is generated, the event handler should trigger a navigation to that PCD object. Which APIs can I use to trigger this navigation from the server side event handler? I have done this before in webdynpro where we used WDPortalNavigation (.absoluteNavigation or .relativeNavigation). Is there something similar that i can use in this case (i.e. when developing a simple Portal Application from an AbstractPortalComponent)?

    Hi,
    On my understanding of your requirement.
    the best solution what i think is use Object Based Navigation(OBN).
    Is much suitable to your requirement.
    Moreover you can use
    1.Relative navigation
    2.Absolute navigation.
    In the same way how you used in web dynpro.
    Same thing can be done in abstract portal component also.
    Try using that.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Event handling for closing a browser window on portal in web dynpro abap

    Hi,
    I am new to portal as well as web dynpro. Is it possible to handle portal events in web dynpro abap? My requirement is whenever a browser window is closed on portal, if any new system messge has been added I want to display them in a pop-up. I checked examples from the package 'SWDP_TEST' but they trigger events in web dynpro and pass them to portal. I want to subscribe to the close event of portal and handle it in my web dynpro abap application. How can I achieve this? Please suggest.
    Thanks and regards,

    Hi,
    I dont think that you can code to close IE browser window as you cannot access MS IE APIs in WD ABAP. I looked into closing IE browser and got http://p2p.wrox.com/general-net/16588-handling-ie-close-event.html . reading this, it seems the coding can be done in C#(asp) etc.
    also refer Closing of IE window
    I hope this is useful for you.

  • Problem when handling Portal events

    Hi all,
    I am trying to handle portal events between two Iviews on a same page.For this I am using all the necessary parts from coding prospectives(eg. Event fire, Subscribe event and action handler method).
    But I am not able to handle portal events.I found some properties on Iview and page level as:
    1) Web Dynpro Client on Iview level - Default auto (Some threads suggest that events only works on HTML pages).
    I change it to plain HTML, but having doubt that is this value passed to this property.
    2) ID Prefix - Default blank (I-View level)
    I assign com.sap to it and also assign application name to ID.
    Is these will affect something on Portal handling.
    I also watch some e-learning sessions, I do similer to those sessions but at my end I still facing problem.
    Please suggest what I will do more to handle Portal events.

  • How to write an JavaScript Event Handler for Portal Form?

    I have created an form in Portal builder.
    There are two column, R04 and R05.
    I need to use Javascript Event Handler to check if R04 value is smaller than R05 value.
    Can I be able to build up this function?
    Can anyone give me a hint? or steps?
    Thanks

    Here are some suggestions.
    1. do what we did, and write your own protocol server that understands whatever custom commands you need, and then write a custom thin client which will send commands to and receive responses from this protocol server. you can use any language for the client software. the protocol server should be written in java so that it can receive commands from the client and then use the 9iFS API to execute the requests or retrieve the data that the client wants to display.
    2. write a custom fat client, in java, that accesses the 9iFS API directly. this means that each client will be accessing the iFS schema on the database machine directly. if you configure the iFS service on the client to use the THIN driver, then you won't need to install the Oracle client software on the client machine. You'll just need all the iFS .jar files and the database's JDBC driver (classes12.zip). Note that using the THIN driver is not supported because of bugs and performance problems. If you use the OCI8 driver, which is supported, then you'll have to install the whole Oracle client software package on the client machine.
    3. write a thin client that uses the WebDAV protocol, and communicate with our built-in DAV server. this approach will allow you to execute any command that DAV understands. you may be able to find some free HTTP or DAV client software on the net, or you can try writing it yourself. this is probably a better solution than number 1 unless you really need to send custom commands that are not in our DAV server's vocabulary.

  • Portal events are not getting loaded into the Analytics database tables

    Analytics database ASFACT tables (ASFACT_PAGEVIEWS,ASFACT_PORLETVIEW) are not getting populated with data.
    Possible diagnosis/workarounds tried:
    -Checked the analytics configuration in configuration manager, Enable Analytics Communication option checked
    -Registered Portal Events during analytics installation
    -Verified that UDP events are sent out from the portal: Test: OK
    -Reinstalled Interaction analytics component

  • Javascript embedded in button pl/sql event handler not being executed

    Javascript calls not working from pl/sql button event handler. What am I missing? Are specific settings needed to execute javascript from pl/sql proceedures?
    Example: Want to toggle target='_blank' off and on in a button pl/sql event handler to open url call in new window & then reset when processing submit is done & the app returns to the form.
    portal form button's pl/sql submit handler:
    begin
    htp.p('<script language=JavaScript>') ;
    htp.p('this.form.target="_blank"') ;
    htp.p('</script>') ;
    PORTAL.wwa_app_module.set_target('http://www.oracle.com') ;
    htp.p('<script language=JavaScript>') ;
    htp.p('this.form.target="_blank"') ;
    htp.p('</script>') ;
    end ;
    Putting the following in the button's javascript on_click event handler works great:
    this.form.target='_blank'
    to force opening new window with a call in the button's submit pl/sql code via:
    PORTAL.wwa_app_module.set_target('http://www.oracle.com') ;
    but then the target='_blank' is left on when the submit is done & we return to the form.
    putting the above javascript as a function (called fcn_newpage) elsewhere (e.g., after form opens) & calling in the submit pl/sql with
    htp.p('fcn_newpage') ;
    also doesn't work.
    Metalink thought this was an application issue instead of a bug, so thought I'd see if anyone knows what's going wrong here. (Portal 9.0.4.1)

    thanks for your discussion of my post.
    Please clarify:
    "htp.p('fcn_newwindow') sends a string":
    What would you suggest the proper syntax for a function fcn_newwindow() call from a pl/sql javascript block that differs from
    htp.p('<script language="Javascript">') ;
    htp.p('fcn_newwindow');
    htp.p('</script>');
    or more simply
    htp.p('fcn_newwindow') ;
    More generally, what I'm trying to figure out is under what conditions javascript is executed, if ever, in the pl/sql of a button (either the submit or custom event handler, depending on the button).
    I've seen lots of posts asking how to do a simple htp.p('alert("THIS IS TROUBLE")') ; in a pl/sql event handler for a button on a form, but no description of how this can be done successfully.
    In addition to alerts, in my case, I'd like to call a javascript fcn from a pl/sql event handle that would pass a URL (e.g., http://www.oracle.com) where the javascript fcn executed
    window.open(URL). The API call to set_target(URL) in pl/sql has no ability to open in a new window, so calling that is inadequate to my needs and I must resort to javascript.
    Its clear in the PL/SQL of a button, you can effect form components since p_session..set_target & p_session.get_target set or get the contents of form components.
    So to see if javascript ever works, I tried to focus on something simple that only had to set what amounts to an enviromental variable when we returned to the form after a post. I chose to try to change the html value of TARGET from javascript in the PL/SQL button because it doesn't need to be implemented until we finish the post and return to the form.
    So I focused on a hack, setting this.form.TARGET='_blank' in the on_click event handler that forced every subsequent URL call or refresh of the form to be a new window. I then wanted to turn off opening new windows once I'd opened the URL call in a new window by setting TARGET='' in the portal form. I can achieve what I want by coding this.form.TARGET='' in the javascript (on_focus, on_change, or on_mousedown, ...) of every form component that might refresh the form. However, that is a ridiculous hack when a simple htp.p('<script>') ; htp.p('this.form.target=""') ; htp.p('</script>') ; at the end of the button's pl/sql event handle should do the same thing reliably if javascript ever works in the pl/sql event handler.
    If we didn't have access to form components through p_session calls, I'd assume it was a scope issue (what is available from the pl/sql event handler). But unless my syntax is just off, when, if ever, can javascript be used in a portal form's pl/sql event handler for a button?
    if I code a javascript funtion in the forms' pl/sql before displaying form:
    htp.p('<script language="JavaScript">') ;
    htp.p('function fcn_new_window(URL)') ;
    htp.p('window.open(URL)' ) ;
    htp.p('</script>') ;
    the function can be called from a button's on_click javascript event handler:
    fcn_new_window('http://www.oracle.com')
    but from the same button's pl/sql submit event handler this call doesn't work: htp.p('fcn_new_window("http://www.oracle.com")')
    So my questions remain: Is there other syntax I need, or does javascript ever work properly from the pl/sql of a form button's event handler? If it doesn't work, isn't this a bug that should be fixed by Oracle?
    I can probably figure out hacks to make things work the way I need, but executing javascript from pl/sql event handlers seems to be the expected way to affect portal html pages (forms, reports, ...) and it seems not to work as expected. I don't feel I should have to implement hacks for something as simple as calling a javascript function from pl/sql when almost every example I've found in metalink or the forums or Oracle Press's "portal bible" suggests using javascript from pl/sql via the utility htp.p() to effect web page components in portal.
    My TAR on the subject, while still open, returned the result basically: "We can reproduce your situation. Everything looks okay to us, but we can't explain how to use javascript where you want or point you to any documentation that would solve your problem or expain why it should not work the way you want it to. We don't feel its a technical issue. Why don't you post the problem on the portal applications forum."
    I'm hoping I'm just missing something fundamental and everything will work if I implement it a little differently. So if anyone sees my error, please let me know.
    by the way, not sure this is germain, but in reference to your comment:
    "redirections in pl/sql procedures give a peculiar result. in a pl/sql procedure, usually, portals give the last redirection statement and ignore anything else coming after it."
    if I try to raise an alert:
    htp.p('alert("you screwed up")');
    return;
    in a pl/sql event handler, it still doesn't raise the alert, even though its the last thing implemented in the event handler. But if I set the value of a text box using p_session..set_value_as_string() at the same spot, it correctly sets the text box value when I return to the form.

  • How to show a message in a form 'PL/SQL Button Event Handler'

    We need validate the sal of an employee, and if it is bigger the value musts
    not be inserted.
    We trying a code like the one shown in the note 134312.1 'HOW TO PASS A
    PARAMETER FROM A PORTAL FORM TO A STORED PROCEDURE' and it works in the insert event of the insert button (using 'PL/SQL Button Event Handler') and it works, but we need to show a message that says the data wasn't inserted. How can we do this?
    The code we used is:
    declare
    v_deptno scott.emp.deptno%type;
    v_empno scott.emp.empno%type;
    v_sal scott.emp.sal%type;
    mySal scott.emp.sal%type;
    v_string varchar2(256);
    blk varchar2(10):='DEFAULT';
    begin
    select sal into mySal from scott.emp where empno=7369;
    v_deptno:=p_session.get_value_as_number(p_block_name=>blk,
    p_attribute_name=>'A_DEPTNO');
    v_empno:=p_session.get_value_as_number(p_block_name=>blk,
    p_attribute_name=>'A_EMPNO');
    v_sal:=p_session.get_value_as_number(p_block_name=>blk,
    p_attribute_name=>'A_SAL');
    v_string:='You just inserted empno: '||to_char(v_empno) ||'to deptno ->
    '||to_char(v_deptno);
    if mySal < v_sal then
    doInsert;
    else
    -- We want to display a message here, when mySal > v_sal
    end if;
    end;
    ----------------------------------

    I did something similar but wasn't using a stored procedure. Couldn't you set a flag variable once you know you're not doing the insert and in the "before displaying the form" section put an IF to check if your flag was set, and if so do an HTP.Print('You are overpaid buddy!');
    Then just reset your flag.

  • Drop Down List in ALV with Event handler

    Hi All ,
    I have created an ALV grid with a dropdown as one of the columns. This all works fine, except that I want to be able to react to a change in the value of each line's dropdown the next column values should change according to the user selection in the 1st column .
    Is this possible?
    As an example, I have a table of records with one column as a dropdown called " Replace Function Module "   and in 2nd column i have call function of that Replace Function Module , If a  change in " Replace Function Module " should change the call function of in the 2nd column .
    I am using these objects lvc_t_drop , lvc_s_drop and  the method  " set_drop_down_table ",
    Please Can any 1 tel me how to do this with any event handler ar any other way !

    Hi,
    You need to use event handler for this. Check if the below link gives some direction.
    [http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/cda3992d-0e01-0010-90b2-c4e1f899ac01|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/cda3992d-0e01-0010-90b2-c4e1f899ac01]
    I guess you should create a method inside which you call the FM using the FM name from the selected cell in ALV.
    I have not tried it out, but its worth a try.
    Hope this helps!

  • Portal eventing in WD ABAP

    Hello ,
    We have an requirment to pass values from one WD ABAP application iView to another in the Enterprise portal.Is there any configuration that needs be done in WD ABAP or is there any setting in EP that we need to do ??
    Rahul

    Rahul,
    Though most of this stuff is of web dynpro for java. You can just replace java Code with ABAP.
    You need to use eventing functionality.In the SAP Enterprise Portal, different application types in specific iViews can be arranged on one page. To communicate between the different iView types the portal provides the Enterprise Portal Client Framework (EPCF), also known as client-side eventing. This document describes how Web Dynpro applications can use EPCF.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/24/243ca46e1c334f8a6f8b0792656bc7/content.htm
    The following code shows the signature of the subscribe method:
    WDPortalEventing.subscribe(java.lang.String nameSpace, java.lang.String event, IWDAction action);
    for example
    WDPortalEventing.subscribe (“urn:com.sap.tc.webdynpro.test.portal”,
        “TestEvent”,
        wdThis.wdGetTestEventAction());
    You have to define the event’s name and its namespace. The combination of these two names must be unique.
    The third parameter is the Web Dynpro action, which should be mapped to the portal event. The action event handler is called if the Web Dynpro application receives the specified portal event on the client side. The mapping between a portal event and a Web Dynpro action is done automatically and it is completely transparent for the Web Dynpro application developer.
    You can reuse a Web Dynpro action for several portal events. If you want to receive the portal event’s data you have to define the following parameters for your Web Dynpro action:
    ·        dataObject
    The dataObject parameter contains the portal event parameter.
    ·        nameSpace
    The namespace parameter contains the portal event’s namespace.
    ·        name
    The name parameter contains the portal event’s name.
    It is useful to add the nameSpace and nameparameters to the Web Dynpro action if the action is reused for several portal events because you can use this information to differentiate between the portal events.
    Note: In the current version a portal event subscription is valid for a Web Dynpro view. Therefore you should add the required Java coding, for example in the wdDoInit() method of the generated view class. If you navigate between different views, you have to subscribe to every view for the portal event required.
    Unsubscribe from a portal event
    Unsubscribing from a portal event is very similar to subscribing. The following code shows the signature of the unsubscribemethod:
    WDPortalEventing.unsubscribe(java.lang.String nameSpace, java.lang.String event, IWDAction action);
    for example
    WDPortalEventing.unsubscribe (“urn:com.sap.tc.webdynpro.test.portal”,
        “TestEvent”,
        wdThis.wdGetTestEventAction());
    Note: You must unsubscribe every Web Dynpro view, because subscription and unsubscription is valid only for the current view.
    Raise a portal event
    The following example shows how to raise a portal event. The signature is:
    WDPortalEventing.fire(java.lang.String nameSpace, java.lang.String event, java.lang.String parameter);
    for example
    WDPortalEventing.fire (“urn:com.sap.tc.webdynpro.test.portal”,
         “TestEvent”,
        “AParameter”);
    You can fire a portal event anywhere in your Web Dynpro application. The event is sent to the client  with the next response. You can also raise more than one portal event in a request-response cycle. Typically, you will fire a portal event in a Web Dynpro action event handler (for example, as a response to pressing a button).
    The following step-by-step example shows how to carry out portal eventing within two simple Web Dynpro example applications.
    Example Description
    The user can enter an arbitrary string in an input field. If the user presses the pushbutton Click here in the sender view, the input string will be displayed in a TextView UI element of the listener application.
    Prerequisites
    You have built two Web Dynpro applications. How to build Web Dynpro applications is described in Creating a Simple Web Dynpro Application. In each application you have created a Web Component with a view that uses the portal eventing.
    You can find the detailed procedure describing how to insert UI elements into a view in Creating a Simple Web Dynpro Application.
    Further information about the integration of a Web Dynpro application into the SAP Enterprise Portal can you find under Running a Web Dynpro Application in SAP Enterprise Portal.
    Procedure
    Creating the Web Dynpro applications
           1.      Create the Web Dypro project. Call it webdynproexample_portal_eventing.
           2.      Create two Web Dynpro components. Call them:
                                a.      EventSenderComponent
                                b.      EventListenerComponent
           3.      Create two Web Dynpro applications. Call them:
                                a.      EventSenderApplication
                                b.      EventListenerApplication
    Creating the necessary views:
    Create the layout of the EventSenderView in the EventSenderComponent as follows:
    Create the context structure of the EventingSender View:
    The context value attribute Name must be of type String.
    Create an action “Show”
    Define the data binding of corresponding UI element properties:
    The appropriate properties of the UI elements must be bound to the context that contains and displays the data.
           4.      Define a text, for instance, “Enter a text:” for the label UI element (ID: NameLabel) using the property text.
           5.      Bind the property value of the input field (ID: NameInputField) to the context attribute Name.
           6.      Bind onAction of the button (ID:ShowButton) to the corresponding action Show.
    Implementation of the view controller
           7.      If you create an action declaratively within the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio, the Web Dynpro framework automatically generates an onAction method in the controller’s implementation. The generated method enables you to write code to fetch the input string and to fire the portal event. The fire method of WDPortalEventing passes the data and the name of the event that should be handled by the second application as parameters. The following code shows the implementation of onActionShow method:
    public void onActionShow(com.sap.tc.webdynpro.progmodel.api.IWDCustomEvent wdEvent )
        //@@begin onActionShow(ServerEvent)
       String name = wdContext.currentContextElement().getName();
        WDPortalEventing.fire("urn:com.sap.tc.webdynpro.example.portaleventing",
                           "Show",
                           name);
        //@@end
    Create the layout of the EventListenerView in the EventListenerComponent as follows:
    Create the context structure of the EventingListenerView:
    The context attribute Name must be of type String.
    Create an action, for example, ReactPortalEventing which should be mapped to the portal event.
           8.      Create an action ReactPortalEventing.
           9.      Add the parameter dataObject. It should have the type java.lang.String.
    Define the data binding of the corresponding UI element properties:
    The corresponding properties of the UI elements must be bound to the context that contains and displays the data.
    10.      Define a text for the NameLabel for example, The entry is displayed in a TextView UI element:
       11.      Bind the property text of the TextView UI element (ID: TextViewShow) to the context attribute Name.
    Implementation of the view’s controller
       12.      You have to subscribe to the event within the wdDoInit method. You have to define the namespaceof the event and the name of the event, for example Show. The third parameter is the Web Dynpro action, which should be mapped to the portal event.
       13.      You have to implement the action (ReactPortalEventing) that passes the dataObjectand fills the context with data. The following code shows the implementation of the wdDoInit and the reactPortalEventing methods:
    public void wdDoInit()
        //@@begin wdDoInit()
        WDPortalEventing.subscribe("urn:com.sap.tc.webdynpro.example.portaleventing", "Show",
        wdThis.wdGetReactPortalEventingAction() );
        //@@end
    public void onActionReactPortalEventing(com.sap.tc.webdynpro.progmodel.api.IWDCustomEvent wdEvent, java.lang.String dataObject )
        //@@begin onActionReactPortalEventing(ServerEvent)
        wdContext.currentContextElement().setName(dataObject);
        //@@end
    Deploying the Web Dynpro Application
    Before you can call the Web Dynpro application, you have to build the Web Dynpro project and deploy the application on the J2EE Engine.
    Simple Testing of the Portal Eventing and Calling the Web Application
       14.      Create two iViews in the newly-created example folder as described in Running a Web Dynpro Application in SAP Enterprise Portal.
       15.      Create a page and add the two iViews to the newly-created page.
    To preview the Web Dynpro applications, choose the button Preview in the Portal Content Studio.
       16.      Enter your input and choose button Click here.
    Result
    A page preview will demonstrate portal eventing.

  • Portal eventing between Java WD iview to ABAP WD iview?

    HI Experts ,
    I have requirement on which,
    The manager can select an employee from the EE Search iView (Object and Data Provider). All other iViews react on the selection and display data of the selected employee. Technically the personnel number is transferred from the search iView to the other iViews on the portal page, also to the related activity iView. This mechanism is called Eventing. The applications, started via the related activity iView, are launched with the personnel number as parameter. With other words the application, e.g. Manage Objects on Loan, can be directly started for the employee selected from the EE Search iView.
    The Employee Information page is based on WD Java whereas the Objects on Loan application described in this specification is based on WD ABAP...........Due to different technologies used how to do the Pernr number transfer between these iviews?
    If anybody have done this let me know the steps
    Thanks in Advance,
    Dharani

    Hi Dharani,
    You can use portal events to enable iViews running on the same page to communicate with each other. You just have to find out which event is fired by the WD Java iView and then you will have to register and handle the event in your WD ABAP application : http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/f6/7d6f4151dc5758e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
    You can use HttpFox (firefox plug-in) to find the details of the fired event (name, namespace...) by looking at the eventQueue parameter in the HTTP POST request.
