Portal export while users logged in application

Hi,
We are using Oracle Application Server Portal 10g (904) for our corporate applications. I am preparing to migrate our production system into a new database server (as the current Database server is too old).
I have created a transport set – but before exporting I looked up the portal help. Portal help suggests to export during non-business hours. But it does not say what is the downside, if I export during business hours i.e while the system is in use.
Does anyone has any idea what happens if you try exporting portal app while in use?
Is it OK to start exporting while the application is in production use?
Thanks
Sushanta

Sushanta,
this is primarily a performance consideration, by using the database export utility you will get a read consistent view of the Portal metadata.
Cheers,
Mick.

  • Enhancement while user log out of the session

    Hi
We are connecting to the external system through web services and query it  to get the data. We will call this connection to external system from most of the important transactions. Our problem is, once the user connects to the external system, he has to stay connected tilll the user log out i.e. user has to disconnect while he log out. I am using shared objects and creating instance while user connects. But no clue where to clear this instance and close the connectivity. So, my question is there any BADI, Userexit or enhancement triggers while user log out or any other way to implement . Please advise
    Regards
    Shailaja.

    HI Sailaja  ,
You can  check that  by Creating One RFC   by passing parameter   when you are connecting to external system  and also  when you are logging out of the external system  , one flag can be paased to RFC  when he logs out and  can close the session accordingly  .

  • Track User Logging Into Application

    Hi.
I have a requirement in apex. if users don't login to application more than 3 days it must alert through email to adminstrator. Please suggest me how to make this feature.
I am using Oracle Apex 4.0 and Oracle 11XE database.
    Thanks
    Sudhir

Did you actually check the contents of the APEX_WORKSPACE_ACCESS_LOG view? You'll probably see the USER_NAME column contains the email address (as this is what you are using as the user name).
To overcome Hari's comment: You might want to outer join this view to your Employees table to detect users that have never logged in. The ACCESS_LOG data is kept for more than 3 days (14 if I'm correct), so in that timeframe you've already have sent the email (one or more times...).
You might ask yourself whether you need to send an email every day for an inactive user. Otherwise, when a user is on holidays for 14 days, the administrator will get 11 emails...
In that case you might want to record that an email is send (maybe in your emp table or elsewhere) and exclude that in ay subsequent mail batches. But that logic you can easily code yourself in a few lines of PL/SQL.
And I am wondering on what table you want to create a trigger ... I hope it is not on any APEX table ;-)
You can create a post-login process (either in your Authentication or in your Login page itself) that does that trick.

  • How to start synchronization autometically while user login

    Hi,
How can I set the mobile client so that while user log in, it will start synchronization automatically?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Subhayu

    Hi,
for example you can start the SyncService automatically while the user accesses your applicaiton.
Furthermore there are autoSync available - check the doku for exact parameters.
But I think, sync while accessing the application would be the best solution for your behaviour.

  • Export APEX Users

    All,
I am building multiple applications using the hosted (internal) solution at apex.oraclecorp.com. As the application will have the same set of users (almost at least) I am wondering if I can export the users from one application and importing them into another application? I know that I can query them using the view APEX_WORKSPACE_APEX_USERS and also download the result into a spreadsheet, but I am pretty sure that this is not as simple as an import. Any ideas?
    I am using APEX 2.2.1.00.44.

Run the export, the password is there trust me..
You can look at the export file and see the passwords encoded as well..

  • Updating Application While Users are in the system

    Version 9.3.1
Does anyone know if it is ok to update Planning metadata and push (refresh) the
database to Essbase while users are activily using and submitting data to the
    application?
I've had some consultants say no, you risk corrupting the application and some
    say it is fine.
Is there any impact to the users when the system is live?
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Hi,
Although Essbase has a decent locking mechanism which stops users inputting data or running calculation during a database restructure and vice versa, I don't think it is a good practice to do a database refresh while users are logged in to the application. That's actually one of the reasons why you have an option to put the application into maintenance mode. Version 9 family is known to be more vulnerable, it is not very likely that you'd cause database to crash, but still the least severe that can happen would be the loss of input data that's not yet saved in Essbase.

  • Application should start automatically as soon the user logs into windows.

    Hello All,
    I have a requirement.
I am developed a time sheet application using web dynpro. This application is configured on the portal & is working fine. Now, I want to make some changes, may be at Portal Content side or Application side, but want this -
As soon as the User loges into the Windows with user id & password, this timesheet application residing on the portal should start automatically and should record the time. Similarly, if the user shuts-down, the application should again record the time. Thus giving the actual time the user worked.
    Please reply. Thanks.
    Best Regards
    Chander Kararia

    Hello Satyajit,
Below are the comments on your queries.
    1. It would be better if the application starts silently. But, in case, if we choose other way i.e the browser opens automatically and displays the application (expecting the button needs to be clicked by the user) that will also do.
    2. In case of system shut-down, I am still to come up with some materialized concept. But, here are few ideas...
a). The application should check if the time entry is available for the current date. If so, should display the text for LogOut only. This will make user understand not to hit it.
b). It should keep on accepting all the sessions (logging & logout) n number of times for the current date.
I would prefer (b) as a better option.
If you have some more conceptual idea, please suggest.
    Best Regards

    Hi Ika,
This seems to be a permission issue.
Go to the pcd and give read access to portal_content/com.sap.ip.collaboration/Rooms .
    That should solve the problem.
Points are welcome if this helps

  • Different masterhead image based on the user logged in portal

    HI,
Presently we are using standard portal theme. How can I change the image in the masterhead based on the user logged in.How can i change that and i want to assign that masteredhead to users.
Can anybody give me suggesion about this.
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Srinivas

    Dear Srinivas,
Simple of achiving this kind of scnario is create separate themes for different users and assign the themes to the users in master rule collection through Desktop Page. Here in this case you will be creating one framework page and multiple Desktops and themes. All the desktops will be having the same framework page and different themes based on the user type or group type.
Otherway of achiving this is create an pdk application where it will have multiple jsp components in it and based on the each component create one PAR iview.Let us take if four groups of users then you will be creating four different jsps in pdk application which will inturn contains different masterhead images and related logos. After creating the iview place the iview in the correcsponding framework page below the masterhead iview. Here multiple framework pages and Desktops and you can go with single theme.
In the first scenario the masteread , we are managing through the theme and in second the masterhead we are managing throgh application.
Either of the scenarios can be used to create differet masterheads for different users.
    Hope the answer helps you....
Reward the points if it is helpful.

  • Sharepoint portal goes down Whenever a specific user logs into the portal

    hi All,
Sharepoint portal goes down Whenever a specific user logs into the portal
When a specific user logs into the portal , the iis goes down and no one able to access the portal.
once we reset  iis then portal works fine .Please help us to identify the root cause for this issue.

What is the error message it throws for everyone after that user user logged into the site. Did you encountered the same behavior for the other web application in the same farm as well?
It would be worth to check health of that particular application pool and the account used for it during the time you face the issue.

  • Retrive portal user logged from HttpServlet

    Hi all,
i've implemented an URL iview containing a Java application. I've to retrive the user logged on portal from the application's servlet contained into url iview.
    Please, any idea!?!?!
    help me!!!
    Andrea

    Hi,
Since the servlet is running in a different container I'm not sure there's a clean way.
What about passing in the user id on the url string?  http://<myurliview>?myuserid=<user> ?
    Your servlet would then have access to this via request.getParameter("myuserid").toString();
The application integrator can take care of parametizing this for you.  See here http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/70/5a3842134bad04e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
    Hope this helps,

  • Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.

Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.
I'm NOT in any way a Terminal Services expert and I need help trying to get an application program working in a multi-user environment.
The issue is that the printer changes for every user that is logged in. The application needs to print NOT to the default printer, but to a "special" printer which is selected in the application... let's call it a label printer to simplify the explanation.
You have your default regular printer, easy for the application to find that one, and then you have a special printer that labels get printed onto. The application needs to know what printer is the label printer. So we allow the user to select that in the
application and the selection is stored in a config file in
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
I don't have access to the application so I can't change how this works.
In the "regular" world, selecting the label printer driver to use should be per machine, NOT per user. When a new user logs into a machine, the physical printer doesn't go "poof" and a new printer suddenly appear. Same printer for all
    users.
Yet in terminal services, the physical machine is "merged" with the virtual machine on the server. And there can be many users logged in at the same time. So each users real machine (and real printer) is injected into the "fake" terminal
services machine. The name of the printers is made unique for each user. So the printers DO go "poof" and change names depending on the user logged into terminal services.
So user "A" logs in and sets up the application to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" (or whatever the name of the printer happens to be), that setting is stored in the ProgramData subfolder, and all is well. Later, user "B" logs
in, and when they print, the application tries to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" which doesn't exist for user B or is only accessible by user A. If user B re-configures, that breaks it for user A.
SOLUTION 1: The way that /should/ work (in my mind) is that you define one "generic" printer in Terminal Services... call it "Virtual Label printer" and when the user wants to print to it, the print job gets re-directed back to whatever
physical printer is actually connected to their local workstation. There is a map of virtual printer to actual printer depending on the current user. The application is told once to print to "Virtual Label Printer" for all users.
SOLUTION 2: Or... there should be some way to make the ProgramData sub folders separate per user. E.g. when user "A" tries to access:
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    they actually get
    C:\UserData\UserA\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    and user "B" gets
    C:\UserData\UserB\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
So the question I have is: Does either of those solutions exist hidden somewhere in the setup of terminal server? Or is there another way around this issue that I don't know?

I don't really have a "for sure" answer to this, but because people here can't seem to deal with a question that hasn't been answered I'll provide the best answer I did receive from ServerFault.com user Nathan:
I can feel your pain with using old software on terminal servers ...the solution I've come up with definitely won't scale as it requires some manual configuration, but I've gotten this method to work with our label printers (which require to be
printed to an LPT port...yep, that old).
Share your USB-connected printers to the network on each machine. Then, have the user log in on aunique session for each of them
(a TS account cannot be shared among computers for this to work) and install a network printer pointing to the USB one they shared. Try to use a DNS name to account for possible DHCP movements.
After, it should work. Each user can do this since display names can be identical as long as the ports are different (which they are).
This was clarified by the following series of comments:
I think you are on to something here, and I originally advised the admin to do this. The problem he ran into is that it setup the printer names in the TS as "printer on usersworkstation"
and he could not rename it except to change the "printer" to whatever. E.g. the "on userworkstation" remained. I believe there is another way of installing the printer which avoids this, but I can't find it. Ages ago, one used to do NET

@JamesNewton That's actually the exact method we used. The way around the "network printer" part is to install it as local printer and map it to a TCP/IP port that way. –  Nathan

You mean in the case where the printers are TCP/IP connected and not local USB / LPT to the users workstation? That makes sense. Wonder if this will work for USB connected printers... –  James

@JamesNewton You'd share the local printer on the client's PC then on the server connect via TCP/IP to it. You'd need static addresses or use DNS names if DHCP, though. –  Nathan

Ah. Yes. I see. Looks like the LPT thing should work even with a USB connected printer:superuser.com/questions/182655/… –  James
