4.what is the differnce between portal and web page? >>
Portal contains the development environment as well as the runtime environment.
Development Environments include PDK (Portal development kit for JAVA and .NET)
Portal in no way can be compared to a normal web page. It has innumerable features.
It provides Single point of access to SAP and non-SAP information sources.
It provides role based access to its users.
It integrates the User administration and Security aspects….
5. When does Portal Development Kit Come into picture?
Portal Development Kit (PDK) is an Environment to develop the Content/Applications in Portal using the NWDS(NetWeaver Developer Studio).
We develop applications and generate the ".par" files and deploy it in the portal. In the portal we develop iviews using these .par files and thus the content works in portal.
3. How can I integrate the user management of the portal with that of other systems?
Integration can be done in portal by navigating to --- System Administration >> System Configuration >> UME Configuration.
Here you can configure the LDAP/other UME system to User Management of the Enterprise Portal.

  • Deployment of portal Application

    [email protected]
    Hi Kirit
Let me introduce myself to you. I am venu working for AT&T broadband in Java applications. I am recently asked to
build an application using Oracle 9i Portal. The application scenario will be like this.
    1. A login form is to be created with username and password.Upon succesful login it should lead to a search form
that requires some inputs from users.(in OnSuccess method of the form we have used
call("http://opalws2.tci.com/pls/portal30/PORTAL30.wwa_app_module.show?p_sessionid=602"). We don't know what this
p_sessionid and it is being incremented everytime we access the application. This works fine for my one login session.
If I logout and login again and try to access the above it gives an error saying that ERROR_ORA-01403 Nodata Found.
After this I have to invoke the search form and then note the session id and then change the code in the Login form
with new session id and run it again, then it works fine).
    2. The search form is built on a procedure and in that procedure we are calling a report( based on SQL query) by .
passing the search criteria as parameters. Upon submission a report is generated.(This portion is working fine.I
don't know if there are any hick ups in this matter.)
    3. The Report has some oracle portal links on some of the columns which lead to the forms created on corresponding
database tables. This form will be used by the end user for any modifications.( Though the session ID of this
form is changing everytime it is internally picked up and I am not facing any porblem in displaying it.)
So the issues of my concern are
    1. How can I make this application available to all the end users so that nobody is bothered about this p_sessionid.
It should be as such any authorized portal user(Our company's end user) should be able to access this application like
    accessing any other web site.
    2. How to deploy this on our servers where our company website and the database resides.
    3. I want to print the screen details of the last form using a Print button. How I can put a print button there
and how can I print the screen details.
    Sorry to bother you.
Kindly help me in this matter.
    Thanks
    venu

  • Replacing default Oracle Portal HTML pages

How do I modify/replace the default Oracle Portal pages, such as the home page for non-logged-in users, the login page, the customize page, etc.? I'd like the fact that we're using Oracle Portal to be transparent to the users.
This is probably covered someplace in these forums or the product documentation but I have yet to find it.

    Benjamin,
Home Page = home page for the PUBLIC user. You can also set the home page for the AUTHENTICATED_USERS group for logged in users.
Login Page = If you're using 3.0.7, search for "Login" in the online help. Select the topic "Customizing the Single Sign-On (Login) and Change Password pages". You can also use the Login Portlet on any Portal Page.
Customize Page = Cannot be customized. In 3.0.7, we've removed the Oracle branding from the Wizard-type pages.
Most of these tips are contained in the Portal FAQ.
    Regards,
    Jerry

  • Portal does

potral does it need any application on system to run it

    Hi,
your question is very short... I will try to answer.
The portal is integrated in SAP NetWeaver. The portal is installed on an instance of the J2EE Engine of the SAP Web Application Server. SAP Enterprise Portal contains the NetWeaver components Portal, Knowledge Management and Collaboration. In addition, SAP provides pre-defined content called business packages.
Check the portal area on sdn you will find all information:

  • The step-by-step guide for installing the Oracle Database and Oracle9iAS Portal

    All,
I made a step-by-step guide for installing the Oracle 8.1.7 database and Oracle9iAS 1.0.2.1 (HTTP Only) install on a 'clean' Windows 2000 machine. The guide has a screen shot of every single step that I went through to get an installation of the database and Oracle9iAS Portal to work.
Because I left my email in the guide, everyone will be sending me email with questions about their particular install. [What I really wanted was some positive feedback email to show to my manager... hint hint.] As I do not want to troubleshoot everyone's install by email, I started this thread.
Let's start the step-by-step install guide discussion here.
As a start, here is what I did NOT want to do with the guide: I did not want to 'redo' the current Oracle9iAS installation guide. So I did not put any conditions in the guide. This is just what I had to do to take a clean Windows2000 machine (no Oracle software on it) and get it to work. If I keep on adding conditions, eventually I will end up with the installation document.
Also, in the next version (for the Oracle9iAS 1.0.2.2) I will probably start over again from scratch as we are planning on addressing some of the issues with the install.
Another thing I plan to do is put the following direct links in:
    Oracle9iAS Portal: Troubleshooting Guide
    Oracle9iAS Portal: Diagnostics Tool
    Oracle9iAS Portal: FAQ
Have a look at the above, as they will answer probably all of your questions... But if not post away!
    Thanks,
    Rich

We do have installed a Lotus Notes LDAP. Unfortunately, the documentation is company internal in German.
    The steps, in general, where:
    1) Create physical connection (obviously, you did that)
    2) Deploy the XML Descriptor for the LDAP under "UM Configuration => Data Sources"
We used a derivate of the Sun One LDAP Profile.
    3) Match the assignement LDAP Group --> EP Role --> EP User via EP user management
    4. The user, in our case, is always created in the LDAP first (from a different LDA administration group) and is then visible in the Portal)
I know, this is very generic, but the "magic" is in the XML profile and I haven't seen any documentation about it yet.

  • Document links and Tables in a content area

    Hello,
    1. I'm having problems with text items in a content area. I'm trying to make a link to a document in a text item but I only get a 'Page can not be found'. I know I have to change the httpd.conf file settings but so far I have not been able to set it up correctly. How should the excact line look?
In this case I whant to put all my documents in a folder tree in the 'portal_home' directory. For instense:MHC(root folder)/HR/employees.doc or MHC/Finance/Strategy.xls
    2. Why is it not possible to make 'invisible tables' in a text item? This way its possible to control the text mutch more and also (as in my case) include pictures within the text. If you want to produce a nice Intranet, the only way with portal (so far) is to make text items, becurse these are the only ones that you can display directly in a folder area and keep the navigation bar to the left. This way the users wont get lost in all the pages and folders.
The problem is this:I want to use the style I've made on all my folders (this way it's easy to change the apperance of all the folders in just moments) BUT if I put a table in the text item (html code) then suddenly portal takes the default settings of the browser instead!!? So if I have set my browser to Arial 15 this is the text I se instead of the text in my style.
Please , do anyone have a suggestion?
    I using Portal 3.0.7.6.2 (9iAS 1.0.2) on NT

I assume you are trying to put an anchor tag in a text item, that points to a document stored elsewhere in the Portal repository.
Use a direct access URL (search the online help for info on these) to construct the link to the document. You can use a relative URL by leaving out the "http://server.domain:port" part of the URL - e.g. {a href="/pls/portal30/docs/FOLDER/MYROOTFOLDER/MYSUBFOLDER/MyDocument.DOC"} - I'm using {} here instead of <> because real tags get messed up in these forum messages.
The Portal FAQ explains how to use httpd.conf to define a redirect directive.

  • Is text mining operations on document binary and its HTML output is simiar?

Does the text mining operations differ when I perform on document binary or its HTML output? Do you think the results would be the same, if i performed clustering operation on the HTML or text output of a binary document instead of its binary file.
    Please comment!

  • Link Parameters from Report to Form in Insert Mode

It seems like it should be possible to use the Report wizard to add a link to a form, select some link parameters using the Edit Link function, and then when one clicks on the link it would open the form in insert mode with the link parameters filled in as defaults. Instead what happens is it tries to open the form in update mode with a row that matches the link parameters, and if it can't find a match it opens in insert mode with no parameters filled in. I want it to always open in insert mode and with the passed parameters filled in.
I've looked through all the documentation I have access to and have been through all the Portal FAQ's on OTN and can find nothing on this. There were a few questions in the FAQ's that told how to do it in PL/SQL, but I don't know how to get access to which instance of the link was selected by the user through PL/SQL, and it seems like there should be a way to do this from within the report wizard.
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Jim Bladen

If your report is created using ‘Reports From SQL Query’ then you can modify it using the following to achieve this:
    1. Remove the link from ‘Column Formatting’ section of the report object.
    2. In the SQL of the report , use custom link to the column where you want to provide link using the syntax
    select a.empno,’‘||a.ename||’‘ ename_link,a.deptno
    from scott.emp a
    Order by a.empno
and the form will always open in ‘INSERT’ mode with passed values filled in.

  • Calling a form in a dynamic page

    Hi all,
We are using dynamic pages for the creation of custom portlets. We can call a report in html tag by calling report.show procedure. What will I write for calling a form?
    Thanx,
    Gulsah

    Gulsah,
In the component management screen you can find a URL-style "Run Link" which looks like this:
    PORTAL30.wwa_app_module.new_instance?p_moduleid=1060253649
Also can put this PLSQL code:
    PORTAL30.wwa_app_module.link (
    p_arg_names => '_moduleid', p_arg_values => '[module id]',
    p_arg_names => '_show_header',p_arg_values => 'YES');
where [module id] is your form id

  • Assign form field value

    Gurus:
Given a value in form field one, I want to assign a value to form field two (same form). How can I accomplish this?
    Thanks in advance!
    kc

    Ken,
You can set the the value on the server side from any event hadlers by calling p_session.set_value() function. For an example please see Portal FAQ: http://otn.oracle.com/products/iportal/htdocs/portal_faq.htm
    Thanks,

  • Building a site

    Folks,
I am new to Oracle Portal and Im trying to develop a reporting application using it. What I need is some general help with my approach, so apologises to all you gurus, and know how everything is tied together using Portal. To date I have managed to develop some applications in the form of a menu, some simple charts which have drill down capability to reports and have managed to get them linked together and working. My main question is how this can be linked together on a page and presented as a web site with a style or template applied to it.
I can directly run the charts that I have produced and on running the reports and drilling down on data the content is displayed in browser full screen mode.
What I want to do is publish a reporting site with these applications shown as smaller portals and the drill down information being displayed in smaller portals.
I have set up a content area for the application and appreciate that it can be used to store folders of information but dont understand what the web page is that is displayed when I use navigator to click on my particular content area. Is it a management screen? Should the portlets I am developing be tied into this screen?
What is the best approach if I want to build many portlets and display them on a single page with their content changing as a result of selecting options in another portlet on the same page, ie posting parameters to a report.
Is there any documentation that may help me?
    Regards
    Garry

    Gary,
Let me take a stab at this.. Most everything you build with portal can be displayed as a portlet on a portal page. The portal page is the centerpiece of the user environment. Portal pages are used to display an integrated and personalized environment for the various user audiences that you may have in your organization.
Each portal page is comprised of several regions. Each region can be populated by "portlets". A portlet basically is a section of a portal page which presents web content, or applications from datasources (websites, applications, etc) which are internal or external of Oracle Portal itself.
Administrators (and designated users) may build portal pages which display the portlets that they desire. Each of the application components that you have built can be displayed as a portlet on a portal page. Similarly, content area folders can also be displayed as portlets on a portal page. Portlets of any kind can be intermixed with each other on any portal page.
Parameterizing reports, however, can't yet be accomplished as a portlet on a portal page. To workaround that, you could conceivably create a URL item in a content area that invokes the report's parameter form in a new window..
For more information, you may want to try the online tutorial supplied with the product, or check out some of the introductory white papers at: http://technet.oracle.com/products/iportal/listing.htm#overview
and also consult the Oracle 9iAS Portal FAQ too!
    Hope this helps.

  • HELP! PLEASE READ THIS!

    Hi,
Before posting your question in this forum, please make sure that you:
1.looked at the Portal FAQ: http://otn.oracle.com/products/iportal/htdocs/portal_faq.htm
    2. searched through the archive
Chances are that most of the questions were answered before.
This will help us, a lot, to eliminate the duplicated questions answered over and over again, and will save more time to answer new questions.
    Thank you!

Thanks for all the help roam!! You hear about hard drives crashing, but you never think it will happen to you, until it's too late. Unfortunately, that happened to me today... but, I bought an external hard drive a few months back and had backed up the majority of my important files at that time (THANK GOD!!). I had a ton of music on my iTunes, photos in my iPhoto, and TONS of favorite bookmarks organized in my Safari that I'm pretty sure were not backed up on my external harddrive (but at least all my graphic design files were saved on my external). I think I'll chalk this one up to the lesser of two evils and count my blessings. It could've been much worse than it is. Thanks again though for your assistance.
    Take care,
