Portal Help

We have a federated portal setup where our BI portal is the producer and our EP portal is the consumer. We are using the BI role Business Explorer as a remote role in our EP portal to be able to access our BI KM content. The issue we have is if we try to save, move or copy this data it can only see the KM repository on BI, and we want to be able to get this data into the KM repository on EP. Can someone tell me the best way to be able to get the KM content from our BI portal into KM on our EP Portal? I have seen a number of things about WebDAV and ICE, but not sure of the best option. I am looking to the experts for help.

If you are creating Database portlets, there while creating the portlet you can provide help
If you are creating pl/sql or java portlet then also you can create your own help and add help link on the corner of each and every portlet.

Error WS-32141 while accessing portal help in 3.0.9.8.4 after installing intermedia

Hi All,
I'm hitting the error, "No page has been created for this Content Area (WWS-32141)" while accessing portal help in 3.0.9.8.4.
This error is coming after installing intermedia in my 8.1.7.3 database (not the enable intermedia option in GUI). Is this a known issue?

I had the same thing happen. What I did was abandon the install, uninstall ALL Oracle from my machine (I had Oracle reports, JDeveloper and other stuff installed). This included uninstalling 8.1.7 (Don't know if I needed to go that far but I did). Once my machine was clean I installed 8.1.7, created a minimal database and installed 9iAS. I didn't get that error again, but the Portal install failed miserably and I'm to the point of starting over again.
One problem I'm having is a recurring blue screen of death with NTOSKRNL.EXE having an unhandled exception, never had that till I installed 9iAS so I am thinking that the error is somehow related. Have you seen that?

Customize portal "Help" link based on user roles

Is there a chance to customize the Help link URL in Masthead iView based on user roles? The use case we have is that the "Help" should be different for users of the purchasing company from those of the supplying company.

Hello Jay.
This is a multi step process.
Step 1 : Create 2 desktops with everything as same but different mastheads.
- Copy your existing desktop and paste it in your working folder in PCD (Not select Delta link)
- Now download masthead par file.
- Modify your masthead par file where you will disable help link. Rename you masthead file (newMasthead.par) and export it from NWDS. Now import it in portal.
- open your framework page in desktop2. Just add your new masthead in it. Enable the new one and disable the existing one.
Step 2 : Create 2 groups of users. (First one belong to users who wish to see help link . i.e existing desktop) (Second of thoese users who do not have to see help link i.e. newDesktop)
- Assign users to appropriate groups.
- Assign same roles to both groups.
Step 3 : Modify main rule section in PCD.
- If group = HelpLinkUsers Then Desktop1
If group = NoHelpLinkUsers Then Desktop2.
You may find above process bit tedious and lengthy.
But if you wish to further customize your portal then this will be needed one day.
If you find problems in implementing any step then please search in google or SDN.
Please revert back on any specific question on above approach you may face while implementing.

Support Portal Help

I posted a question in the Support Portal last Wednesday and I have yet to get a reponse. It shows that the matter is still pending for an Adobe response. I thought Adobe handled these things in a day or two. Is there a better way to get a response?
My computer crashed and I am replacing it with a new one. I know that when I reinstall Photoshop CS3, I will get a message that I am out of authentications and that I should deauthenticate one copy to install the new one. The authentication is sitting on dead computer. How to I get another one? My new computer arrives Thursday and I want to re-install Photoshop right away.

Forget about the support portal. I sent in for a refund of another adobe product thru support portal and it took them 27 days to respond. Even by calling them every three or four days. All they would say is they would contact me within 24 hrs. 27 days later I got a response. Better to call them. On activation problems, they will fix you up.

Rename the portal Help link in the portal

I need to rename the help link in the portal masthead to some other name. Is there any option to change with out import the masthead par fil in to NWDS and hardcoding the help link name.

Which is available at
Navigate to Content admin> Portal Content -> Portal User ->Standard Portal User

Now open the masthead from tyhe framework https://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/weblogs/images/251750294/framework_laout.jpg , there in the properties you will find an entry called as help link , change it over there it works fine .I have tested that for any issues please let me know

Portal Help Article search only works english

I know there are similar questions and answers but none helped me so far :(
It's a new SCSM 2012 R2 install and all seems to be working.
BUT when changing display language in SCSM SSP from english to finnish the knowledge article search does not work.
I get this in the Portal server even log:

and sorry for late response. I'm trying to user finnish language in the Portal.
In the meantime I've updated the SCSM to UR3 but no help... the same help article problem persists.
Help would be appreciated :)

- SCSM Datawarehouse Server (Windows 2012 R2)
- SCSM Management Server (Windows 2012 R2)
- SQL Server 2012 SP1 (Server 2012)
- And a separate server containing SSP and Sharepoint Foundation 2010
Okay, just tried adding swedish language pack to Sharepoint and Help Article search works also in Swedish but not Finnish. Could this be because SQL Server is missing Finnish support on Full Text Search?

Answer: added stemmer and word breaker info from swedish to sql server registry for Finnish locale ID 1035 and updated languages in sql management studio.

Update tool-tip for customized portal Help URL

I have customized the Help Link in Portal Masthead with our own URL. It works fine. However, when the user moves their mouse over the "Help" link, the tool-tip still shows the original text, i.e. "Display the online help ...". How can I also customize the tool-tip of the customized Help URL?

you'll have to customize the masthead application. This text is saved in the file:
PORTAL-INF\private\classes\headeriView_nls.properties -> pick the one that matches your language.
The String you'll have to modify is:
HELP_TOOLTIP=Display the online help for more information about the portal
Change it, save the file and create the PAR again (it's only to zip, nothing to compile) and deploy it.

Flex Student Information Management Portal help

I am building a student information management portal in flex /php (using AMFPHP), but being a Flex Newbie, I have been researching endless on the internet for help to kick start my project. My project will be interfacing with an oracle database system (which is not an issue, I have already built connection classes in php in my past projects). My problem is binding the data. It appears in my opinion that the data grid is the only way to output the data which will not work efficiently in my case. I need a fluid and flexible layout to present the data within the page. Can the query results be binded say in labels etc and if so, how can this be achieved. Any pointers to tutorial sites for beginners will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yes, you can bind labels, but given that you are asking the question, you really have a way to go in knowing how to build a portal.

File Security on Portal - Help Please urgent

Hello all,
I need an urgent help on File Security on Portal.
suppose we have 5 .PDF files in a perticular directory on the portal server. I want to have J2EE engine check if the user is already logged into portal or not. If the user is not logged in I want to throw logon screen asking them to Login. If the user is logged in I want to show the document directly.
How to configure these things. Please help me.

Hi,
instead of storing Your files into the portal server's filesystem You could store them into KM.
If the file "dummy.pdf" is stored into the KM folder "/documents/test", You could call it via
http(s)://<potal server>:<port>/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/documents/test/dummy.pdf
The portal will ask for a login before displaying the document.

SAPGUI for windowes does not startup in Portals - Help

Hi all,
I am trying to run a transaction (PA20) using the SAP Application in Portal under System Administration--> Support. The system and alias are set up and working. The error message I get is a popup:
Do you want to open on save this file
tx.ssd
Type: SAP login Application
From: sapptdapp1
this prompts to save, open or cancel
I have tried other transactions and the result is the same.

What SAP GUI type you are using Wingui/Web gui/JAVA gui.
Usually you get this kind of situation when you dont have a wingui installed in your system or in the system where portal is being browsed.
Solution is install win gui in the system or If you have ITS installed then you can use WEBUI or if you want to use JAVA GUI refer to my weblog

Image url is not working for Anonymous Portal - Help!!

Hi Friends,
We are using a JSPDynpage portal component iView for showing material information on portal. This portal is anonymous. So, to show the image we are using the below url, where ObjectServer mdm component is used to get the image. This is exactly as it is in the MDM standard item details iview.
Inspite of making the iview authentication scheme as anonymous, adding the anonymous group to security zone of low_safety for com.sap.pct.mdm.appl.masteriviews still i am asked for logon details.
can any one please let me know what else we need to do to make sure that this url (image) works for anonymous users on the anonymous portal.

Convert static html page to portal help needed

I have a page here. that I need to put in portal.
I am having trouble!
use banner for the top image.
use a region for the top menu links. This is "About, Registration, Security,etc...)
Because menu bars and folders do not do horizontal alignment of items, all the links (about, registration) have to be one item. Would this be text in a folder? If a folder, can I remove the nav bar?
One of my problems is that a lot of the content uses images. What is best practice for referring to images in content?
If one has a lot of html content (10 lines) , why is the best element to use for this?
Should I just use UI templates for everything?

Depends. If you are going to reuse the layout, use a UI template. e.g static navigation , company branding etc.
If you need to add Javascript/DHTML effects etc, a UI template is good, since you can call them from your portlets.
As far as images go, don't place them in the database ! Place them on the middle tier and cache the folder
with an Expires directive.

Portal Help File

Hello,
I am using EP 7.0, with ESS business package 50.4. Is is possible to have a help file appearing if a user presses F1 when inside an input box (similar to the help functionality available in R3). I am aware that you can change the help URL, but where do I get the help file from?

Hi Nick,
I am not sure about including help by F1 key.
But in one project we used the help link that comes with end user role in personalised option. There we used this link to point help documnts which was located in KM.
