Portal patches and effort estimation
Hi ,
One of our client is applying the following patches
1. ECC 6.0 SP15(currently SP14)
2. ESS MSS SP15(currently SP14 with some level of functional customization )
3. EP 7 SP18(currently SP14)
We would like to kwow the best practice for applying portal patches and the effort estimation for redoing the portal devt on the new patch.
o What is the overall level of effort with applying Portal patches?
o How are all the changes to SAP objects handle? Do they have to be
manually re-entered?
o What is the impact of having a single NWDI instance across the
Portal Landscape during the Patch process?
Regards,
Revathi Raju.
Hi Revathi,
o What is the overall level of effort with applying Portal patches?
overall effort to apply the patch is apprx 1/2-1 days for NW7 system. This is exclude the patch files download because it's based on your download speed.
o How are all the changes to SAP objects handle? Do they have to be
manually re-entered?
Depending on your customization. Normally it wont effect if you created the customzation application apart from SAP standard application
o What is the impact of having a single NWDI instance across the
Portal Landscape during the Patch process?
Any change that related to NWDI, you might be need to re-deployed from NWDI itself.
Thanks

Hello Collegues,
i have to install to J2EE of EP 7.0 Java patches(currently version SP09),
but unfortunatly i do not know which of them i have to choose from service.sap.com->swdc->newtweaver->netweaver2004s->entry by components->enterprise portal->and here a list:
-Portal 7.0
-Portal Core Servises 7.00
-Portal Framework 7.00
-Portal WenDynpro 7.00
Which of them i have to use? Can I use SDM for all patches ?
Here are some other j2EE patches: J2EE Engine 7.00 and J2EE Engine core 7.00 which consist of two parts (SP and Patch). No idea what difference exists bw Portal patches and J2Engine patches.
Thank you in advise.
JuliaHi Zulfiya,
In EP 7.0 (2004s) you use JSPM to deploy new patches/hotfixes. JSPM then take control of SDM.
You can find a guide to apply SP09 at :
https://service.sap.com/instguides
Then go to Sap Netweaver / Release 2004s / Maintenance
and read NetWeaver 2004s Support Package Stack Guide - SPS09
When you download SP09, don't forget the package list. You can get it with "save as file" button, before the "Add to download basket".
You need to update JSPM first, then after a JSPM restart, you apply the SP09.
I hope this can help you.

Could some one let me know, where can I find the release dates of the enterprise portal versions and patches, as I am interesetd to know about them.
I am new to EP and I dont have access to SAP service market place.
Thank youHi Raj Reddy,
You should have SAP market place id to get the EP versions and patch release dates. These are all available in the form pdf documents. In some documents we have to convert the weeks to corresponding years and months to guessestimate the dates.

Effort estimation for upgrading Sap Net weaver 7.0 to EHP2 SP6
HI,
We have BI 7.0 on SAP Netweaver 7.0, we want to upgrade it ot EHP2 SP6.
Current patch level is 16 & oracle 10.2.2.0 database.
Can anyone tell me how much the time effort is needed.
my customer wants an effort estimation for upgrading EHP2.
please give me some bried idea about this acitivity.
Regards,
Maqsood> I would like to have details information with respective to time effort estimation during EHP2 upgrade process as below
>
> 1. initialization -1. what system dos in this phase - 2. how much time system takes - 3. impact on server ( like availabel or not available)
> 2. extraction - . what system dos in this phase - 2. how much time system takes - 3. impact on server ( like availabel or not available)
> 3. configuration -. what system dos in this phase - 2. how much time system takes - 3. impact on server ( like availabel or not available)
> 4. checks - . what system dos in this phase - 2. how much time system takes - 3. impact on server ( like availabel or not available)
> 5. preprocessing -. what system dos in this phase - 2. how much time system takes - 3. impact on server ( like availabel or not available)
> 6. dowtime -. what system dos in this phase - 2. how much time system takes - 3. impact on server ( like availabel or not available). In general how much downtime system takes during this phase.
> 7. postprocessing -. what system dos in this phase - 2. how much time system takes - 3. impact on server ( like availabel or not available)
> 8. Finalization -. what system dos in this phase - 2. how much time system takes - 3. impact on server ( like availabel or not available)
Nobody can tell you any time values. This depends on the used hardware, the speed of the underlying I/O subsystem, the number of processes you use, the speed of the server, number of languages etc. etc.
1 - 5 is done online, nobody will notice because all the work is done in a shadow instance .Downtime says it all and 7 and 8 are postprocessing work.
To try that do a copy of the production to a sandbox and play with the values and see yourself how much time you need.

Hi,
Do SAP provide any guidelines or thumbrules for the effort estimation of EP development, implementation etc.
Please let me know the details
regards,
SujeshHI,
Providing Effort estimation in EP is highly vague as it purely depends on the kind of development and implementation to be done. You can be more specific in the areas you would like to get info about such as development using webdynpro etc.
Also the architecture and process work flow play decisive roles in estimation.
As of now <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/4c2b16e2-0a01-0010-0eab-9a90926d5947">here</a> is an estimation for a migration project.
Additional <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/2eb43136-0301-0010-9b96-b00377384497">info</a> on the same project.

Portal Patch - 10.1.2.3 as + 10.1.4.2 portal
Hi Experts,
We have tried to install the patch p9386084_101420_GENERIC to avoid the vulnerabilities. But we have got the error says that " ERROR:Oneoff cannot be installed , incompatible portal version Recompiling all Invalid Objects ,this may take a while " .
Tried to get the version of portal through the table portal.wwc_version$ - but it returns no rows selected. However we can see the portal version in app_registry & dba_registry.
Can any one please suggest me how do we get out from this issue ?
Thanks
LakshmananYes, make sure you have a backup of your Portal repository. Portal CPU patches come as repository patches and mid-tier patches. If you have multiple Portal mid-tiers then the repository patch only needs to be applied once and the mid-tier patch to every Portal mid-tier.
To find the Portal password:
1. Login to your OID using Oracle Directory Manager with the orcladmin account.
2. Navigate to the following branch in your OID tree:
Entry Management
-> cn=OracleContext
-> cn=Products
-> cn=IAS
-> cn=IAS Infrastructure Databases
-> orclReferenceName=<service_name>
-> OrclResourceName=PORTAL_PUBLIC
3. Look up the value stored in the following attribute:
orclpasswordattribute

Oracle9iAS Portal Patch Release 3.0.9.8.3 For Solaris is now available for download from metalink. Bugnumber for the patch release is 2131815.
You must install this patch release over an Oracle9iAS 1.0.2.2 installation of Oracle9iAS Portal. You can install it over either a production installation (3.0.9.8.0) or a patched installation (3.0.9.8.1, 3.0.9.8.2). This patch release is cumulative and it incorporates the changes from the earlier patches (3.0.9.8.1, 3.0.9.8.2). The installation instructions are in README.TXT and RELNOTES.HTM contained in the patch release.
The patch will be available for other platforms by the end of May.I saw this warning in the content area API home page.
Warning - The Content Area APIs available in 3.0.8.x and 3.0.9.x will not work with Oracle9iAS Portal 9.0.2. They are not available with this release
Will there be other API's?
Are you removing the concept of loading an item through APIs?
Thanks in advance

Effort estimation (Aufwandschu00E4tzung) for WDA
Hi,
is there any best practice out there how we can calculate a effort estimation for a the development of a WDA application? Any Excel-Tool, anything?
I thought about calculating for every screen (if it contains for example 3 tabstrips i would calculate alltogeather 4 screens) and add some time for the component. But this is by far too vaguely, isn't it?
How do you do this usually?
Thanks in advance.Hi Axel,
the time one needs for developing a Web Dynpro ABAP Application mainly depends on the answers to the following questions:
Are there good enough APIs that can be used for handling most of the business logic required?
How flexible should the application be? Do you need to generate the ui or is it sufficient to have fixed screens?
Can components be used again?
--> Ask your developers, not excel

Effort estimation of developments
Hi all,
Could anyone please provide me with some inputs or documents/ templates on Effort estimation of developments in ABAP??
I have done the initial analysis, but not sure what should be the base of measuring the complexity and time for an object?
How an object can be further divided and the total time be measured?
Also please let me know about the marginal timings and all...
Thanks in advance,
AnshumitaHi
First the know the complexity of the object.
Based on complexity only we can estimate the hours.
Generally for
simple - 5-6 days
Medium : 8-9 days
Complex : 15-18 days
This can vary from company to company.
Guidelines for complexity :
Tables,Transactions involved that is the scracth development or any developed object there for reference like that.

SAP BW support project-Effort estimation template
Hi,
I have to prepare effort estimation template for the sap bw support project.
I have prepared the list of activities which covers the different phases
of the knowledge transition. It would be great if I can get some sample templates
for sap bw support effort estimation.
Thanks,
shitalHi Shital,
I have a couple of sample estimation plans. Send an email to the mail id on my SDN business card, and I'll get back to you with the docs. -

Dear All,
For system that is termed complex (e.g. Interface =400, Language=10 ,Custom Object = 20,000, Unicode Conversion - 15,000, DB = 4TB etc) is there a best practice/thumb rule published as to how efforts required for SPDD/SPAU can be estimated ?.
Regards,
NeethHi Neeth,
Yes!! there is best practice for effort estimation. Before that FYI, SPDD/SPAU means stanadard objects adjustments not custom objects.
Iff you want the estimation for SPDD/SPAU first count the Standard repository(SPAU),datadictionary objects(SPDD), for this
1.Run SPDD tcode in your system which ur going to upgrade, it will give the objects, save those objects into excel document, count the objects
2.In the similar way run SPAU tcode, get the object count.
Here in both spdd/spau there will be subcategories,
for SPDD:
With Modification Assistant
Without Modification Assistant
Deleted Objects
for SPAU:
Note Corrections
With Modification Assistant
Without Modification Assistant
Translations
Reset Objects
Deleted Objects
In the both of the above categories no need to take care about
a.Deleted objects
b.Reset objects
Finish the above task, then let me know the object count and given mandays to finish this, then i will assist you accordingly.
