Portal personalization problem in ESS

Ciao!
My problem is that when trying to personalize the RegisterTime iView, changing one text affects another text that I don't want to change. Let me explain.
1. The text shown when a user clicks 'Review" without entering any new time record is "You have not changed or added any data." Fine.
2. The text shown when the user HAS entered or changed a value, for instance 7 hours of Absence, and then clicks "Review", the message says "Check your entries before saving." Fine.
BUT:
3. Changing any of the texts through personalization immediately affects the other!
Why is this?? Are the texts connected in any way? How should one know when a text change affects another? Is this by design..?
Normally, we would treat each text of this kind separately. Especially since the original texts differ from one another...
Can anyone help me?

please make sure that you do not use a specific user for your JCO Destinations SAP_R3_HumanResources and SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics.

Portal Personalize problems.

Dear experts
I want Personalize link in my masthead. For that I have done the below steps.
1) Created a role.
2) Assigned portal personalization workset to that role.
3) Assigned the role to user.
4) In masthead iview I have changed the property "Show Link in Masthead: Personalize" to yes
When I am Logging in to the user profile, I am getting the personalize workset in Top Level Navigation instead of appearing the personalize link in masthead.
I know this problem can be solved in by assigning the Standard User role i,e; EU_Role to the user. But I dont want to use this role.
Please help me regarding this matter.

If you want to show the pesonlize option in the masthead par file then
Go to the path
content admin -> portal content
In the pcd content go to the path content provided by SAP -> End user content -> Standard portal users-> Default Framework Page -> open it.
in that open the masthead iview properties
and select 'Yes' for the Show Personalize option.
This will show the personlize option in the masthead of your portal.

I have a problem with Transport the personalization of standard ess component.
My problem is in several components, such as:
portal_content/com.sap.pct/every_user/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.bp_folder/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.roles/
com.sap.pct.erp.ess.employee_self_service/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.employee_self_service/
com.sap.pct.erp.ess.area_personal_information/persinfo_es/com.sap.pct.erp.ess.13.pdata
I have personalized this page (into rol, not directly in the page), with Ctrl+Right button.
Now i transport the rol, from Development to Quality environment, but i don't see the changes in Quality.
My system is NW 7.01 SP7, Can be that the problem?
Any idea to solve this problem?

"If an iView is transported to another portal all these properties are
also transported. This is needed to make sure that role-specific changes
could be transported together with the role. End user personalization
data is NOT transported in this way as end user personalization is only
local to the current portal."
Could you please ensure that personalization was done by an admin user?
I'm afraid that if it was done by an end user, personalization isn´t
transported as it's explained in the documentation provided.
Could you please confirm whether you are using exactly the same language
to access to both systems, development and quality? Maybe you are using
language en(us) in one system and en(gb) in the other one. Please take
into account that personalization is language specific.
From the web dynpro end, the WebDynpro personalization is stored
NOT in the PCD prior to 710 release. And as such it cannot be included
in a portal role transport. This feature is available with NW 7.10 SP2
or later (from webdynpro point stand). The best option is to
go with NW 7.30 as this is the first NetWeaver release with EP since
NW 7.02.

How do you test portal roles and/or ESS roles if testid is not in LDAP?

We have a process but it is hard to maintain and not very secure. I was wondering how other Security Admins solve this problem.
For examplle, we have users who use ESS, MSS, Adobe Forms and a few other portal roles. And, all of them are using the LDAP to authenticate users.
Our Basis guys have created test ids in the Portal but they need to be asisgned directly to a pernr (on Infotype 0105) in order to obtain the right information in the portal.
I'm curious as to how others maintain this process.
All suggestions and recommendations are welcome.

If the Basis team has created the test-id on the portal, assign the MSS/ESS role as per the business process
make sure to create the same userid on the backend system and assign the userid to a pernr
Assigning userid to PERNR lot of postings are available to do this please search.
Also I remember at one of my customers project the portal was configured to have "parameter setting" on the portal rather than the backend system.
summary: Userid - UME/LDAP ( Basis already created it in your case )
                              Portal roles ESS/MSS   - assigned to userid
                              ECC/HCM system roles -assigned to userid ( after PERNR is tied to userid)
                              Paremeter setting to be done on portal

Iam Facing a problem in ESS career and job .

iam using BP ERP5 ESS1.41 sp6
and updated Common parts
My problem here is when i click the appraisal link the page for appraisal is opening with some records.but when i click on that record the appraisal template must be displayed,but my link is displaying an error in that page as page is not found.
i had done required OBN as of SAP NOTE 1416756 , 1408243.but my issue doesnt soleved

sandeep, im still looking for you to provide the
URL of both pages in your screenshot.
Outside of a weird firewall issue or something, you have 1 of 2 issues.
1. Your OBN Target configuration you did in the notes is wrong. which means the target URL is not pointing to the iview properly.
2. Your iview for the sap page called appraisal_document is not in accessible in the correct content area.
here is the location in the standard SAP portal area, not sure if you copied and already using a custom ESS tab....

Problem In ESS

I had installed and configured the following ( my Webdynpro runtime and portal is in the same J2ee Engine )
- WAS J2ee SP9 , Portal SP9 , ECC SP7
- ESS Business Package 60.2 , SAP_ESS 100 SP5 , SAPPCUI_GP SP 7
- Configured and successfully tested 8 JCO destinations ( which is automatically created in my portal after I deployed the mySAPERP java components )
- Started , configured the systems in SLD and created the SLD bridge successfully so that I could see my both WAS J2EE and WAS ABAP in the Technical system browser
- Assigned a user with the ESS role
My questions are
1. What are the system objects to be created ( I have seen a poorly written document from SAP .."Webdynpro for technical consultants - Webdynpro System landscape and SLD configuration for ESS / MSS" - this document is trying to touch here are there and also different from my scenario in the sense , as I have my portal and webdynpro running in same J2ee Engine )
2. What are the other authorisations i need to have from my ECC to enable the ESS stuff ?
And when I access the ESS role from the browser , I could see the worksets etc . but I am ending up in error as below when I cliked the worksets

1) What are the system objects / system aliases needs to be created in System Landscape editor for ESS ? ( I have my portal and Webdynpro running on same J2EE engine )
2 ) I have created the following , Jco destination and tested it well . Is it ok ?
- They are SAP_R3_Financials , SAP_R3_Financials_MetaData ,SAP_R3_HumanResources , SAP_R3_HumanResources_MetaData , SAP_R3_Travel,SAP_R3_Travel_MetaData
3) Is there anything else Do I need to give ?

Do we need to install SAP Portal for implementation of ESS & MSS

Hi All,
We are implementing SAP (ECC 6.0) for one of our client, Due to some contractual limitations, we do not want to implement SAP portal though it is a part of standard delivery, I want to know that is it absolutely necessary to install and implement SAP portal for implementation of ESS & MSS.
What i know and understand is that with the new architecture ESS & MSS can be deployed and accessed as a stand alone application on an internet browser by (Web dynpro client) without any need of enterprise portal. While ESS & MSS application can be hosted on Web application server.
Please validate my understanding if it is correct, Also does the new Web dynpro based client support all the functionality and authorization related issues for ESS & MSS ??

Hi Amit,
Yes, you can run ESS/MSS as WebDynpro application without having to deploy on Portal. However, the look and feel and user accessibility is much better when deployed as Portal page. For WebDynpro, you will still need to publish the individual URL link to application somewhere...
Another point is that on portal you can deploy standard Business package specific to ESS and MSS which contains lots of readymade iviews/page/roles etc so it can reduce your development cost dramatically.
But, at the end it all depends on your individual requirement and project scope.

How Do I customize the Portal Personalization?

Version: EP6 SP2 Patch2 HF2.
I am trying to customize the Portal Personalization dialog available on the click of the "Personalize" link in the portal masthead.
- I need to remove some of the links available in the Detailed Navigation like "Portal Theme", "User Mapping (Remote iViews)", etc.
- Even if I remove the corresponding pages from the Portal Personalization workset, how do I revert back?
If anyone of you has any ideas about this, please guide me.

Hi Moiz,
Edit the eu_role. There, under the Portal Personalization workset, remove the pages that you don't want, and test the desired display in a new session. That's it.

Dynamic Portal personalization ( themes, languages)

Hello All,
I have a requirement which is as below
1) Based on the roles/group attached to a user id, we should limit the list of available languages/themes dynamically in Portal personalization.
For e.g when user with "X" role logins in, he can personalize "X" themes from available "X+10" themes .
Similarly,the drop down of available languages which are available in user profile , should change dynamically. For user "x" , only 3 languages, for user "y" 5 languages to be visible in drop down.
I have looked at the SAP Notes for Customizing list of available langauges as well as the locale properties, but this seems to be more hard coded stuff and does not vary on the user group or the roles which is what i want.
Can any one tell me if this is possible using the Portal API and Abstract Portal Component development. any examples are highly appreciated.

You must to create different Desktops in PCD.
Using "master rules", you define, which desktop use each user or users group.

A desktop contain a Framework Page, and a Theme.

Then, each user, depending of which desktop you assign it in Master rules, will use different theme.

Ess webdynpro java iview personalization problem

Hi,
we have a problem with the personalization dialog of the ESS-WebDynpro JAVA Applications (f.e. CATS, WhoISWho, Adress...) which the end user gets with Ctrl-Right mouseclick.
Our portal and HCM Backend use language "DE" (Germany). The personalization dialog ist shown always in english. Is ist possible to change the language of the personalization dialog ?

If you set the language as DE for the User performing the Personalisation and if you get all the portal standard menu in DE, then it should show the personalisation Dialog in DE.
I had the same issue for Korean Language and i Did the personalisation successfully (text chage for Korean)
so i think it should work for you case also.

Problem with ESS in portal

Hello experts!
I would appreciate a little help from you.
We have configured recently ESS in our portal. The problem arised since that.
We detected that all the connections between our portal and the gateway of the backend is all concentrated in the central instance.
Let me explain you. Imagine a user logs in to the application server 1 (app1) of the portal. He makes something in ESS and we detect that the connection to the backend (erp) is not made through the application server. In fact, we appreciate that this connection goes through the central instance.
JCo connection are load balanced. The problem seems to be in another configuration.
As you can understand, as ESS gives a lot of workload to the system, and since it is being processed centrally in central instance, we're having a lot of performance issues (regarding cpu bottleneck) in central instance. The other 4 applications servers are just with a 10% CPU load.
Could you help us please so that the requests from the application servers to the backend don't have to be processed in the central instance?

Makes sure you SYSTEM object connections and JCO destinations are load balanced. That's your "links" to the backend. If that all checks, make sure your load balancer is actually set to do as you are expecting. I say this because in a past project, we had an issue like this but it was becuase the load balancer was actually sending all traffic to one server instead of dispersing the load.

Problems with ESS Address in the Portal

Whenever I edit any Addresses in the ESS Portal under Personal Information or simply click on preview button - I get the following error message:
Data record 0000000500061 9999123120101028000 has grouping value "" instead of "10"

Actually this error occured because there is mismatch between infotype record GPVAL values generated through PA30,
and GPVAL values generated through ESS. ESS uses a new set of logic called the Infotype Framework(ITF) to create infotype records.
In general the standard infotype of business logic used in the old PA30 and in the new ITF are identical, but in this instance there is a critical difference in that PA30 records get created with a GPVAL value. When ESS uses the ITF to edit records created through PA30, it reports the mismatch as an error.
Note 783499 (Follow the recommendations of this note) addresses this issue.

Team Calendar problem in ESS

hi,
I've done the customization for team calendar is spro settings. When the Manager logs in on ESS, he is not able to see the employees reporting to him. What settings I'm missing? I've used one rule group & in that I've assigned team view mode to view grp & used grp of organisation as MSS_LTV_EE.

I need to know which rule group you have selected under ESS to see the "Team View" option. I am facing similar problem. I want to view my entire repartees while I am login in as a Manager in ESS portal? Can you provide certain settings as well as configuration input?
