Portal Profile Server Recovery Question

Hi All,
I am currently implementing/rolling out to production 2x portal gateways
and 2x portal servers(with 1 Master profile ldap on one of the portal servers).
I am currently using iPlanet portal version iPS3.0sp3a.
What I would like to know is: How are other clients/companies configuring a
2x gateway with 2x portal server design
What do other clients/companies do when the 1 master profile ldap or master profile
server dies? The reason why I ask is because the master profile ldap is a single
point of failure.
Question: Are other companies creating a 2nd profile ldap that is dormant on the 2nd
portal server? And if the Master profile server dies, then you can quickly restore/
configure the 2nd portal server to be the new master profile server?
I am just curious what other companies are doing to mitigate a potential disaster with
the master profile ldap.
Note: I know that iPSv3.0sp4 is due out soon, but I will be moving to production real
soon and I need to have some sort of a disaster plan in place.
Any suggestions and/or comments is most appreciated.

sp4 is already available for download.
The general high availability setup would be either have a sun cluster with the ldap server and setup replication so that if one server fails you have the other.
Alternate option is to have replication and put idar in front of the ldap servers.
With the availability of sp4 you have multiple profile servers that would avoid a single point of failure on the profile server.

Identity/Portal Server Recovery

Hi all,
I've got a Portal+Identity Server configured and I want to replicate it's config into a high availability architecture so that I will have 2 gateways and 2 portal servers. I'd like to simply import the confbak ldif file (made with 'saveconfig') into the 2nd portal server so I won't have to configure it all by hand, but there seems to be a whole lot of hostname dependancies lurking. I edited the ldif and did a search-and-replace on the hostname and then imported it but no dice. Anybody know of a way to do this?

Hi. My statement may be wrong; because i never tested with any other applications;
Anyways, if i install IS and Agent on separate machines, everything seem to work; On the same machine - hmm hmm; i get the above issue.
"There is a cookie forwarding filter in the Portal configuration. Looks like it blocks your IS cookie (iPlanetDirectoryPro). " --> What is that cookie forwarding filter exactly ? Can you help me started to fix it..

1.when I add a component to the profile server,whether a copy of the component is made for each user(for personalization)?

The data structure for is not published so there is no written document for it. Components in portal are global, which means they do not fall in the domains/roles and user hierarchy.
A user stores only specific attributes that are customized for him for example, if an firstName is customized for him and that is attribute/value pair stored in his profile, he doesn't have a copy of the whole component in his user profile.
Take a look at the ldif dump, it should give you an ide a ..

Define system on portal J2ee server in SYSTEM CONFIG -- SLD error

Can , any body tell me how to create a system on portal J2EE server in which bussiness package has implemented.
WAS properties for the system as
WAS host name:<j2ee name> : <port>
WAS Path:/ webdynpro/dispatcher/
wAS protocol :HTTP
I have tried to create system in System admin--> System configuration --.>SLD .But it is showing following error

Test Details:
The test consists of the following steps:
1. Checks the validity of system ID in the system object.
2. Checks if the system can be retrieved from the PCD.
3. Check whether a SAP system is defined in the system object
4. Validate the following parameters: WAS protocol; WAS host name
5. Checks if the host name of the server can be resolved.
6. Pings the WAS ping service; works only if the service is activated on the ABAP WAS.
7. Checks HTTP/S connectivity to the defined back-end application
Results
1. The system ID is valid
2. The system was retrieved.
3. The system object represents an SAP system
4. The following parameters are valid: Web AS Protocol (http) Web AS Host Name (XX.XX.XX.XX:50000)
5. The host name XX.XX.XX.XX was resolved successfully.
6. The Web AS ping service http://XX.XX.XX:50000/sap/bc/ping was not pinged successfully. If the ping service is not activated on the Web AS, you can try to call the ping service manually.
7. An HTTP/S connection to http://xx.xx.xx:50000/webdynpro/dispatcher/ was not obtained successfully; this might be due to a closed port on the Firewall.
Why it is checking R/3 connection setup like sap/bc/ping and other connection . Iam creating WAS connection for java only.Even iam not define any related properties on this system.

Hi,
in your ABAP system, open transaction SICF, F8, and go activating the required services :
Default Host > sap > bc > ping. Right click on it and choose "Activate".
This will normally solve your point 6 error.
For point 7 I might think of a port error, can you tell us if your system is load balanced ? if yes, your port defined in your system in the PCD in the connector category hase to be 3600. If not load balanced : 3200.
If implementing SSO, also check in the RZ10 transaction that your default profile contains those parameters :
login/create_sso2_ticket = 2
login/accept_sso2_ticket = 1
icm/host_name_full = server_host_name.domain.com.

Getting Started Portal Tutorial and a Portal Capable Server

Hi,
I'm trying to follow the tutorials from Bea Weblogic Workshop and when I tried to create a portal application I received the following error:
"The specified server (cgServer) for application GettingStarted_Portal does not appear to be a portal capable server".
What should I do in order do not have this problem?
Till now I was quite happy to use this platform.

Profile server and ldap server login

To enable my portal to have anonymous login and skip the login menu, from the admin console, i've added "Membership" and "Ldap" under the interactive mode section. This is to allow Ldap or Membership authentication methods enabled at the anonymous page. I tried to use the default login channel to log into the portal using LDAP authentication, but it doesn't work. I can log into the portal via the login channel using "Membership" authentication method. But somehow i have no idea how to "integrate" my membership (profile) authentication with Ldap authentication. (Syncs between profile server and LDAP Server for user name and password). Anyone out there have any idea what went wrong here? Thanks a lot.

The sp3a release notes shows how you can modify the login channel to work with other authentication modules.
The sample given is for unix authentication to make that sample work for ldap authentication take a copy of that sample
cp display_iwtAuthUnix.html display_iwtAuthLdap.html
now look for form action and replace the form action from /login/Unix to /login/Ldap, now follow the instructions given in the sp3a release notes, replace unix with ldap everywhere and it should work ..

Lion Server Recovery image is broken

I had purchased a new Mac mini Lion Server for my office. Normally I am a Linux server guy, but wanted everything to be 100% Apple for continuity. On first plugin, the server worked just fine. After I spent time learning it and it's settings and configs, I decided that I wanted to start fresh. So I used the recovery console to download the boot image from Apple and recover my Lion Server from scratch.
Upon a successful installation, I found that the Wiki and the Profile managers failed to operate. After a long story and chasing each individual error around Google, I decided to retry a new image again. So again I downloaded the recovery image and started over. Upon restart I found the same errors. For the longest time I assumed it was a sheeting that I was messing up and causing it. It had something the do with the Postgres database.
After 5 reinstalls I still had not a fully functioning server.
I had configured a MacBook air to remote manage the server by copying the server app to it. The Air also had Lion on it. I decided to try an experiment and installed Lion fromUSB instead, made from the Mac air. The installation went flawless. I then copied the server app over to my Mac mini server to complete the server functions. It also installed flawlessly. I had not touched a single setting on the new OS and the server functioned perfect.
My only diagnosis has to be that the original net install recovery image which is passed out from Apple's remote servers, is that particular image is broken. If you have conducted a server recovery from booting using apple's recovery system, and are having massive Postgres problems, failed wiki and profile manager issues, then consider that you have downloaded a bad image and create a new install from a local DVD instead.
Today my server runs perfect and has ever since I installed locally.

Thanks and sorry for the super late reply! At the end I had to get a wifi router to get it restore! Since the mini came with Lion server, it won't let me use the thumb drive to install. I can see it if I press option on start up, but when I chose it, it gave me a "no entry" icon
Anyway, since the office needed a wifi router anyway, so ......... yeah thanks!

Code generate report in excel format from portal(Application Server)

Please give some solution with code generate report in excel format from
oracle portal(Application Server).

Not feasible.
Why? Because "the Excel format" is a binary and proprietary Microsoft file format. And writing a generator to generate Excel files will be complex, and resource expensive. In the vast majority of cases this will not be justified.
As an alternative the very basic Microsoft XML office format can be used. But note that this is not a a ISO standard (it has been shot down in flames) - and effort and resources for that would be better spend on the Open Document XML standard (which very likely will be ratified as the ISO standard instead).
Of course, you could have meant a CSV file - in which case, you need to play close attention to details. CSV is not an Excel format. A software designers and developers, our success is determined by attention to technical detail. In which case you are not paying any attention to technical detail by confusing CSV with Excel.

'Profile Server Not Available' error when trying to access Profile Manager

Hello all,
I'm totally, totally new to OS X Server, but I have a class full of new iMac's and MacBook's that I want to be able to manage all in one go. Don't really mind about File Sharing, access from anywhere in the world etc. but I just want to be able to push updates to all of them at once as well as manage some default settings for them all.
I've set up most of what I can see I need to do in OS X Server such as the server itself as a .local, Profile Manager, Websites, VPN, Open Directory and Software Update, but when I try to access my .local through any browser, I get the main screen, but get an error page when I try to go into Profile Manager that says 'Profile Server Not Available. Please wait a moment and try again.'
Can anyone suggest where they think I might be going wrong or need to do? I can give more information or screenshots if needed, juts let me know. Any help super appreciated

Sorry, because I'm so new I don't quite get what you mean. A little more information is I'm using my MacBook which is connected to the same WiFi network as the other Mac's. What do you mean by the FQDN?
I'm able to type in the IP address etc. on any other of the Mac's and it loads the 'Welcome to OS X Server' page, it's just when I select Profile Manager, I get the error. Thanks for getting back though, appreciated the quick help.. and I'm still super stuck. I've got a whole day on it today ha.

DataServices 3.1 AIX/DB2 Profiler server problem.

This is a brand new DS 3.1 installation. Profiler repository set up and added to job server and web mgmt console; server restarted. In Designer, job server is active and running jobs, but Profiler server is crossed out showing non-running status.

I just went through this- see my thread (Profiler Server Not Running).
I had installed BOE3.1 after DS3.1 and believe that I re-did the Tomcat app server and the conf and/or port assignments ended up incorrect.
Try this- in Designer drop down Tools and select Profiler Server Login. The popup box will show the port- it may be 28080 (the DS setting). Change it to 8080, the BOE setting for the Web Server.
My connection then worked and the dreaded red X disappeared forever....
If this does not work, see my thread for instructions on the XML conf file and Manoj's directions as to how to deploy the app.

How to start IGS on our portal/java server?

We are running Portal EP6 sp21 / Netweaver 2004 and require IGS to display some performance graphs. Ive created the RFC connection, and the jCo connector on the java engine, the SM59 'test connection' works.
I see an IGS directory on our portal/j2ee server, but IGS does not appear to be running. The 3 exe files I see are IGSWD.exe IGSPW.exe and IGSMUX.exe, but services or task manager show no IGS running. What is the process to start IGS in this netweaver environment, and how can I tell if it has even been installed properly? Ive tried this from the windows command line, with no luck >> igswd -dir=d:\usr\sap\SID\dvebmgs00\igs -mode=all -sysname=<SID> -sysno=00
