Portal role in MSS/ESS

can we use the new MSS/ESS without the Portal? the new MSS/ESS are based on WebDynpro, and WebDynpro applications run as stand-alone J2EE applications.
thanks in advance

The new MSS/ESS based on web dynpro is tightly integrated with Enterprise Portal and utilizes a lot of functionality from portal. So while it may be theoretically possible to access some parts without portal, but for production use one is better off with going the integrated with portal route.

  • How do you test portal roles and/or ESS roles if testid is not in LDAP?

We have a process but it is hard to maintain and not very secure.  I was wondering how other Security Admins solve this problem.
For examplle, we have users who use ESS, MSS, Adobe Forms and a few other portal roles.  And, all of them are using the LDAP to authenticate users.
Our Basis guys have created test ids in the Portal but they need to be asisgned directly to a pernr (on Infotype 0105) in order to obtain the right information in the portal.
I'm curious as to how others maintain this process.
All suggestions and recommendations are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Penny

If the Basis team has created the test-id on the portal, assign the MSS/ESS role as per the business process
make sure to create the same userid on the backend system and assign the userid to a pernr
Assigning userid to PERNR lot of postings are available to do this please search.
Also I remember at one of my customers project  the portal was configured to have "parameter setting" on the portal rather than the backend system.
summary: Userid - UME/LDAP ( Basis already created it in your case )
Portal roles ESS/MSS   - assigned to userid
ECC/HCM system roles -assigned to userid  ( after PERNR is tied to userid)
Paremeter setting to be done on portal

  • Basic manager/employee role with MSS/ESS content

    hey
which role should I give my manager/employee in the R/3 system so they got the right permission?
Now I have to add SAP_ALL and SAP_NEW to there profiles or I get error messages saying they don't have the right permission.
In the portal my manager has rol com.sap.pct.mss.manager
and my employee has rol com.sap.pct.ess.employee_self_service
    thanks in advance

    hi lien
u can assign SAP_EMPLOYEE_ERP role to employee which is composite role.
    which contain following role.
    SAP_BC_EMPLOYEE
    SAP_BC_ENDUSER
    SAP_ESSUSER_ERP
    SAP_HR_EMPLOYEE_DE_ERP
    SAP_HR_EMPLOYEE_US_ERP
    SAP_HR_PA_XF_EXPERT
mainitian the authorization for all role using tcode-pfcg, generate the profiles and completet the user comparisation.
if u don't have the full authorization for PFCG ask ur basis person to do this.
(this is usefull to RUN ESS from portal)
or if u used custom role than
make sure your user will need authorization object (S_SERVICE)
add this object in the Role that u used. (PFCG)
if u have any query revert me back.

  • Can anyone help me understanding the links between Launchpad roles, PFCG roles, and portal roles!?!

    Hi experts,
I am looking at the newer EhP5 and EhP6 functionality for ESS and MSS, specifically the WD ABAP portal applications.  I've turned on all the business functions and services I think our team wants, however I'm confused on how to move forward in using them.  For a little tech info, we are on EhP6 for the backend, but our portal is 7.02.
My first step was to assign the com.sap.pct.erp.ess.wda.Employee_Self_Service_WDA portal role to our test ESS user group in our sandbox environment.  The ESS user got a new ESS tab in the portal and it's linked to the Launchpad role ESS, Instance MENU.  I'm comfortable with ESS at this point, still need to learn more about customizing the menu for different employee groups without creating additional Launchpad or SAP roles.
Question 1: Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the Launchpad roll ESS, instance menu linked to the PFCG role SAP_EMPLOYEE_ESS_WDA_2?
Next, I was looking to see if there was a similar portal role for MSS, but it seems I can't find one.  I implemented the MSS Addon 1.0 for ABAP and the portal and got a new MSS portal addon role, but it doesn't seem to be connected to any MSS Launchpad role.
Question 2: Is there a portal role to assign to users/groups that is linked to one of the MSS Launchpad roles? If yes, what business function or service is it a part of?
I'd like to use of the existing MSS Launchpad role to test some of the new portal functionality, but I'm not sure how to do it.
Question 3: How is a Launchpad role assigned to a SAP role in PFCG?  Anyone have some documentation they can point me too?
    Kind regards,
    Garrett Meredith

Thank you Samuli, this was very helpful in connecting many of the pieces.
For now I have a very good understanding of how the new ESS is controlled and modified.
It appears that FPM_LAUNCHPAD_UIBB could be used to develop a similar component to call a custom launchpad role for MSS containing a customized list of WDA applications.
Is a MSS Launchpad a good way to pursue since we use a SAP enterprise portal?
I found a PAOC_MSS package containing other MSS embedded packages.
Could I use one of the embedded packages in there and by creating a Component configuration in the FPM_LAUNCHPAD_UIBB for one of the MSS WD applications?
Based on the documentation link above, PFCG roles are for NWBC HTML or Desktop versions.
    Kind regards,
    Garrett

  • Do we need to install SAP Portal for implementation of ESS & MSS

    Hi All,
We are implementing SAP (ECC 6.0) for one of our client, Due to some contractual limitations, we do not want to implement SAP portal though it is a part of standard delivery, I want to know that is it absolutely necessary to install and implement SAP portal for implementation of ESS & MSS.
What i know and understand is that with the new architecture ESS & MSS can be deployed and accessed as a stand alone application on an internet browser by (Web dynpro client) without any need of enterprise portal. While ESS & MSS application can be hosted on Web application server.
Please validate my understanding if it is correct, Also does the new Web dynpro based client support all the functionality and authorization related issues for ESS & MSS ??
    Regards
    Amit Ajmera

    Hi Amit,
Yes, you can run ESS/MSS as WebDynpro application without having to deploy on Portal. However, the look and feel and user accessibility is much better when deployed as Portal page. For WebDynpro, you will still need to publish the individual URL link to application somewhere...
Another point is that on portal you can deploy standard Business package specific to ESS and MSS which contains lots of readymade iviews/page/roles etc so it can reduce your development cost dramatically.
But, at the end it all depends on your individual requirement and project scope.
    Cheers !!
    Satya.
PS: Points always encourage me to reply...:-)

  • Customizing availability of Portal Roles/TABs (ESS)

    Hello Portal Knowledgeable ones,
    I am running EP 6.0 SP13.
We will be implementing many of the Standard HR ESS functions.  We desire to purposefully limit the hours of the day when these capabilities are available to users--EVEN THOUGH THE PORTAL IS UP.  As an example, viewing paystubs is available 24x7, whereas other update-type ESS functions (update absences) will not be available from 1am to 5am each day.  We want to limit this access because our payroll processing occurs during this window, and we do not want updates to occur during it.
    Here is my question:
For the standard ESS web dynpro portal functions, how do we implement a time-of-day switch such that access to certain iViews is prohibited.
The end user experience needs to be as follows:
If time is between 1am - 5am and user clicks on updating ESS item in the portal, the system displays an alternative iView indicating that the system is down for maintenance.
General advice would be welcome as well.  It seems that the portal displays tabs/content solely based on your pre-assigned roles.  How do you turn-off assigned portal roles dynamically?
    Thank you for any insights!
    Kevin

Found a solution.  All users are assigned to groups.  Groups are then linked to roles.  To change content for user, update the group to role link using UMFactory inside a portal application.

  • How many portal roles are needed for multi-country ESS?

we are implementing ESS for multiple countries.
has anybody tried to use one portal role for all countries?
the new ESS business package comes with one ESS portal role that has content for all countries. I was wondering if we can use this role as-is (after making a copy of course) to present content for all countries, instead of creating one portal role for each country.
    Regards,
    Tiberiu

    in Employee Self-Service > General Settings > Homepage for Self-Services > Resources> Define Resources
did you have to enter the PCD path to the country-specific iView?
In that path you associate any resource to a Portal Page. Just change the PCD Path for custom Pages only.
Only the services are "country-specific" (because they have assigned a MOLGA). Follow the path from my previous answer to add any country-specific app.
the standard installation does not have the PCD path populated, it has the name WebDynpro application component instead
This is common issue. Depending on how the installation/upgrade was performed, the resources table is populated or not. But if is not populated, the "URLof PCD Page" property is taken from client 000. In my last implementation, i expected this issue, but i not populate manually this property and everything works fine.
    Kind regards

  • E-Recruitment Portal Roles

    Hi,
I have activated EHP4 in my system and I have found some documentation that lists the Recruiter and Administrator roles as below.
    Recruiter
    Portal role: SAP_RCF_RECRUITER_ERC_CI_2 (Recruiter)
    Collection: EP_PCT_ERP_RECRUITER
    PCD folder: pcd:portal_content/com.sap.pct/specialist/com.sap.pct.erp.recruiter.bp_folder
    Administrator
    Portal Role: SAP_RCF_REC_ADMIN_ERC_CI_2 (Recruiting Administrator)
    Collection: EP_PCT_ERP_ERECADMIN
    PCD folder: pcd:portal_content/com.sap.pct/specialist/com.sap.pct.erp.erecadmin.bp_folder
However I cannot find any documentaiton to lead me to what the roles should be for the Requesting Manager or the Internal Candidate. Can anyone please point me in the direction of where I could find these??
    Thanks
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
From your question what i have understood is:- You want what role needs to be given to the  Requesting Manager(Line Manger/Higher Manager) and the  Internal Candidate(Employee).
If that is the case then for
Internal Candidate (Employee) --- you have to give --> JOBS ROLE  (along with ESS Role)
Requesting Manager(Line Manger/Higher Manager) ---> you have to give MSS Role (as the requesting manager is going to approve the request).
Hope this ans will help you.
    Thanks,

  • Portal roles and Authorization in NW2004s

    Hi Gurus,
In earlier Portal implementation of ESS/MSS which was ITS based we used to maintain roles in EP by doing a role upload and maintaining authorizations in the backend R/3 system and if any new changes being made in the role is being distributed to the r/3 system using system administrator -> Permissions -> sap authorization and role distributions are sent to R/3. where we can go to W3PR transaction can create authorization profile for that role there.
Now my question is in ESS/MSS implementation based on Web dynpro how are portal roles and authorization maintained?
please do tell me as to how they are maintained in the NW2004s implementations.
    Regards,
    Ramesh

plz take a break for few minutes and start.... u will get it..

  • Assign Portal Roles from R/3

    Hi all,
We've here an EP6 SP14 SR1 with R/3 as data source, this R/3 is used to ESS and MSS implementation on portal. The users are created at R/3 using SU01 and then Logon portal with  this same user. But we've to assign portal roles with portal administrator to have access to menus in portal. There's a way to, when create user in backend we can assign automatically portal roles to the user ?
We do not have CUA neither LDAP.
    Thanks a lot for help.
    Best Regards,
    Pedro Rodrigues.

    Jörg,
Thanks a lot, that's very helpfull, now I can see the roles in portal groups. But, we need to use dataSourceConfiguration_r3_rw.xml because when user have to change his own password first time they enter in portal.
How could we got this authorization ?
Could we assign to pfcg roles that we pretend to use this authorization ?? What authorization is it ??
    Thanks,
    Best Regards,
    Pedro Rodrigues.

  • Page w/3 Iviews will not display all iviews thru Portal Role?

    Hello All,
I am having a problem with getting 2 of 3 iviews to display through my portal role(s). 1 of the iviews is a copy (generated thru the wizard with same properties) of the SAP Bank information iview and the other 2 I created in the KM content (1 is an image and the other is html). If I preview the page, I see all 3 of my iviews with no problem.
Just a little history, I created a new area page called payments which I tied Bank Information and w-4 to via config in the back end. I z copied all my resources and tied the correct PCD to them.
It almost seems that it is still calling the SAP delivered Bank information? But, I checked all my config and nothing that is configured is pointing to there iview/page?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    ESS 1.0 - EP7.0
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hello Priya,
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly on this. I did create a z copy of the bank information service and called it z_employee_bank_us_serv05. I created the iview with application name 'per_bank_us' and as for the 'Application Parameters', I did not fill anything in which leads me to my next question.
I know when I create a new area, that I need to fill in the application parameters of the path to the 'Area group pages'
    (Example: sap.xss.menuarea=Z_EMPLOYEE_BENEFITPAY_ERP2005&sap.xss.menuargrp=Z_SAPDEFAULTESS_ERP2005&sap.xss.menuhdr=SAPDEFAULT),
What would the verbage that would need to be added to the application parameters for this just to point to the service?

  • Role Menu for ESS (WDA) in SAP NWBC

    Dear experts,
I am implementing ESS&MSS using SAP NWBC. For this use the following documentation:
Configuration of the Role Menu for ESS (WDA) in SAP NWBC - SAP Documentation
SAP delivers the composite role SAP_EMPLOYEE_ESS_WDA_2.
    1. Call up transaction PFCG and create or copy your customer-specific role based on the standard shipped composite role for ESS (WDA), SAP_EMPLOYEE_ESS_WDA_2 in the customer name space (Z_*.
I have copied this role with the singles roles
My first question: Should modify my composite role for add a new folder that content two applications WDA customer or this should do it in the single role ? How Can do it?
    My second question:
What I dont can display the folder in top screen "Employee Self-Service"---"Employee Self-Service XX"---"Employee Self-Service2"(See Image leff)
    Thanks

    Hi Armin,
For NWBC you must place transactions under the second folder down (or at least this is how its works for NWBC for ERP roles). Standard NWBC roles have 'Role menu' as top folder and then (generally) one main folder under that - like 'Purchasing'. Transactions should go under this folder or under subsequent sub-folder.
There are additional parameters using right click 'Details for Net Weaver Business Client' under PFCG also - but assume your documentation has explained this to you.
    Regards,
    Craig

  • Is it possible to translate MSS/ESS WDJ content without using NWDS?

Hi there, is it possible to translate MSS/ESS WDJ content without using NWDS? CTRL+Right Click allows only to hide the text element, portal content translation doesn't allow to translate Web Dynpro Java content.

    Hi,
Using CtrlRight click you can modify the names, hide the text . on the ESS/MSS ivew's preview  and cTrlright cllick.
then you will get options to hide, change the text . etc.
For deploying, changing  the WDJ files you need NWDS. without NWDS it's not possible

  • MSS/ESS in Europe

Do you know that Bosnia and Azerbaijan have country MSS/ESS portal screens as part of the offering?
Edited by: Magdalena Wlodarz on Sep 25, 2009 1:12 PM

    HI,
Check it out by following infomration
    Country-Specific Services
    Use
In this IMG activity, you define country-specific services. When an employee starts a service, the system determines the employee's country grouping and checks if there is a country-specific service definition in the V_T7XSSSERSRVCG and V_T7XSSSERSRVCGC views.
If there is a country-specific service definition, the system uses this definition.
If there is no country-specific service definition, the system uses the general service definition in the V_T7XSSSERSRV and V_T7XSSSERSRVC views. If the general service definition does not contain a resource object, the system does not display the service (see example 2).
This enables you to define country-specific variations of services for certain countries while using a general service definition for all other countries.
    Activities
    Examples
    Example 1
Your company has employees in seven different countries:
    Germany (01)
    Austria (02)
    Switzerland (03)
    Canada (07)
    USA (10)
(Number in brackets = country grouping)
The service for displaying a salary statement is the same for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. For Canada and the USA, you need services with additional content.
You define a general service for displaying the salary statement in the V_T7XSSSERSRV and V_T7XSSSERSRVC views.
You define two additional services for the country groupings 07 and 10 in the V_T7XSSSERSRVCG and V_T7XSSSERSRVCGC views.
When an employee from Germany, Austria or Switzerland starts the service for displaying salary statements, the system uses the service definition in the V_T7XSSSERSRV and V_T7XSSSERSRVC views.
When an employee from Canada or the USA starts the service for displaying salary statements, the system uses the service definition in the V_T7XSSSERSRVCG and V_T7XSSSERSRVCGC views.
    Example 2
Your company has employees in two different countries:
    Germany (01)
    Switzerland (03)
(Number in brackets = country grouping)
There is a service that is only relevant for employees from Switzerland.
You define a general service without a resource object in the V_T7XSSSERSRV and V_T7XSSSERSRVC views.
You define a country-specific service with a resource object for country grouping 03 in the V_T7XSSSERSRVCG and V_T7XSSSERSRVCGC views
This service is only displayed for employees in Switzerland.
