Portal's ability to pull information from foreign data stores?

Besides gateways, what are other alternatives to allow Portal to pull
information from foreign data stores?

Outside of gateways, the main way is to write a web provider/portlet that directly access the data in the store and formats the result into portlet html.

  • How do I pull information from a master table to another table?

This may be quite simple, but I'm missing something.  I want to pull information from my master table into a secondary table.  In the Master Table in Column A, I have a list of teams ("Team 1" through "Team 12"), then in Columns B through D I have information for each assignment given to each team.  I want to have a secondary table for each team that lists all of their assignments.  So, this is what I want:   if Column A says 'Team 1', then I want the secondary table to have the info from Columns B through D.
Again, I'm sure it's simple, but I just can't figure it out.
    Thanks for any help.
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
    1)  But does this work if in the Master Table (which will be over 300 rows long) each team will show up 10-15 times over the course of the 300 rows randomly (hence the need to have sub-tables for each team...so it's easier for them to see what their tasks are).
Your fellow Numbers enthusiasts in this forum will need more information to help you with that. You are on the right track though with the idea of many tables. Therein lies the power of Numbers.
    2)  I'm a bit confused by the formula.  With the "$A2" do I select the first column in the Master Table?  And can you break down the second part of the formula?  The "$A$2:$D$4,2,0"  Why would you have A2 and D4 in the same formula?  They are not in the same row.  And what's the 2,0 at the end?
    Breaking this question down:
With the "$A2" do I select the first column in the Master Table?
No. The $ keeps the reference to Column A absolute (it won't change to B then C as you Fill Right in the Team Task Table.
And can you break down the second part of the formula?  The "$A$2:$D$4,2,0"  Why would you have A2 and D4 in the same formula?  They are not in the same row.
$A$2:$D$4 is the range of cells (a rectangle) where VLOOKUP will search (in my example) but not in your 300 row table!
And what's the 2,0 at the end?
    The syntax of VLOOKUP is VLOOKUP(search-for, columns-range, return-column, close-match)
The 2,0 at the end means "return column" is 2 (the second column of the range) and 0 means "Exact Match" - it won't find a close match. After Fill Right you will need to edit the formula in each Column to change "return column" to 3, then 4, then ...
With a table selected, click on the Function Button in the Toolbar and choose Function Browser. I find that much more useful than the Help Menu. However (there is always a however in life) the Help Menu will show Numbers User Guide, and Formulas and Functions Help. Download them and read at your leisure. The first four chapters of the User Guide are well worth a read. Use other chapters as a reference when you need them.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Purchasing Music From Foreign iTunes Stores

I had just recently discovered the option of "My Store" at the very bottom of iTunes which enables customers to view other iTunes stores all over the globe. When trying to purchase music from the Österreich iTunes store, I found I wasn't able to do so. I received an error message, as shown above, stating that I was only valid for purchases within the US iTunes store. My question is simple: Why are US iTunes customers not allowed to purchase items from foreign iTunes stores? I do know that you must register to one country in order to begin your iTunes experience (when you first download the program) but does that choice of a country really limit you to your range of music? Is this due to various licensing laws or problems with converting currency? Also, if customers are not allowed to purchase items from foreign stores, why are they allowed the option to view these stores? Answers to these questions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Yes, it's all about copyright and licensing. Currency conversion isn't at issue. In order to purchase music from a particular store, you have to have 1) a valid billing address in the country and 2) a credit card billed to that address or purchase gift cards in that country. It is quite possible that one person could have valid residence and billing information for more than one country. My parents, for a long time, maintained residences in both the U.S. and Canada, so if the iTunes Store had been available, they could have had two accounts, one U.S. and one Canadian.
Yes, it seems at odds with our global economy but intellectual property law has really caught up to the twentieth century yet.

  • ITunes no longer fetches album art from foreign iTunes stores?!

I have been having some trouble getting art for music available in other iTunes stores for a few days now. I can't get art for a few of my imported CDs. I even tried out clearing album artwork from an album I already for which I already had artwork and got the little "no artwork available" message when I tried to re-download its cover art.
I emailed support and got this reply, from "Laura":
+Unfortunately, if the content you are importing into iTunes is not on the iTunes Store that your account country is from, iTunes will not recognize it and you wont be able to grab the album artwork from another country.+
This is news to me! When did this change occur, or is "Laura" just mistaken? I seriously hope it's just a bug. I've been getting artwork from foreign iTunes stores since iTunes 7 first came out in 2006... why ruin a good thing now??

I believe this is the case as iTunes no longer recognizes "Province" by TV on the Radio as having artwork, when it's clearly available in the UK store.
It's especially distressing when I purchase actual CDs from other countries specifically because they are not available in the US. Why is the artwork "region locked" is beyond me, but that's generally what happens when you play by their rules.
I suppose the only work around is to scan the artwork yourself or pull it from another site.

  • HT204266 How can I remove my credit card information from the app store?

How can I remove my credit card information from the app store?  I would like to have an account without the credit card information.
I would like to put in my credit card only when I am ready to purchase.

On your computer's iTunes you should be able to edit your payment info by going into the Store > View Account menu option and logging into your account, and on your account's details page there should be a payment link.  If you are doing it on your phone then tap on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and tap 'View Apple ID' on the popup - that should also give you a payments link on your account's page.
    Changing payment info : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1918
If you don't get the 'none' option on the payment details screen then do you owe iTunes anything or have any pre-orders/subscriptions due : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5366 ?

  • Updating Track Information from the Music Store

Is it possible to update my tracks with information from the Music Store - automatically? I don't feel like going over every piece of music I have doing it manually. Like there's an option to download missing artwork it would be awesome with an option to download (or override ) genres?

No, you can't get any info from the iTunes store (apart from the album art).
There are several 3rd party applications though, that could help you tag your music. I never used one myself, so Google might better be able to help you find one.

  • Pull Information from the Web

Is there a way to set up a LiveCycle form, so that it will pull information directly from a web-based ordering system?
Our salesmen have to enter information into the on-line ordering system and then fill out the contractual documents.  I would like to get it set up, so that the form will pull the customer information off of the ordering system, instead of the salesman having to re-enter the information.  Is this possible?  If so, what do I need to do to accomplish it?

Since the user is using an online ordering system, I expect that the info is saved to a database.
You will have three options to get the data from the database.
    1) Create a DSN and link the form directly to the OLEDB database using the DSN.
    2) Bind a schema to the form and generate the data from the DB in the form of XML and then render the PDF with the XML data. You ned to have workbench server software for this.
    3) Develop a webservice to retrieve the data and in your form, create a dataconnection using the webservice to get the data.
For the options 1) and 3) above, you need to have the reader extensions server software to communicate with the database/ webservice.
Hope this give some ideas to you..
    Thanks

  • Pulling information from .sparse

I was wondering if anyone could provide me with instructions or has knowledge of how to pull specific information from a full- time machine to Time Capsule backup. I have access to a backup that was finished six months ago and there are e-mails existing within the mail program that I would like to retrieve. However, I do not wish to replace any of the current programs, files that I have on my new hard drive. Is there a way for me to just recover the mail?
Thank you in advance for your time and knowledge.

Certainly -- that's what Time Machine is all about!
See #15 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum. There is special handling for Apple Mail, if that's what you were using. If you were using some other mail app, you'll need to know where to find it's data file(s).
If these aren't your current backups, you may need to manually mount the sparse bundle (by opening the Time Capsule via the Finder and double-clicking it), and the +*Browse ...+* option to access them. See #17 in the FAQ Tip.

  • Can I use apps from foreign app store on my iPad?

    Hi guys,
I apologise if this has been answered before. I would like to use apps from a foreign iTunes store on my iPad and wondered if anyone could help me with that.
We live in Australia and I want my kids to learn German as well, so I thought it would be really nice to download a few educational apps from the German iTunes store for them. I have an Australian and a German iTunes account and once I changed my apple ID in the store preferences on my iPad I can download German apps without a problem. The trouble is now that from the two apps I downloaded one changed to english and the other one doesnt open at all.
Do you have any suggestions how I could get this to work?
    Thanks
    Alex

As long as you are using the App store > link under Software update under the Apple on the menu bar if it's not already on your Dock..( or LaunchPad )...Yes.
Using iTunes Store for Apps No, they are only for iOS ie, iPads iPhones, iPod Touches etc.

  • Apple pulled AppVault from the app store

I found out today that Apple pulled the AppVault application from the app store after the developers of AppBox filed a complaint. This completely ruined my day. I can't believe Apple's partiality, unfairness and disregard for us consumers (especially those of us who spend a lot of money in iTunes and on apps). If there are copyright issues/allegations, leave the app in the store and let them fight it out in court. I have both apps on my phone and AppVault is a superior application in every area. Apple: PLEASE put AppVault back in the app store. I can't synch my phone until then!!!

Is the app in your iTunes library on your computer? If not, it should be. If the app is available in your iTunes library on your computer, the app will not be erased from your iPhone when syncing. All apps should be available in your iTunes library on your computer regardless if downloaded/installed with your iPhone first.
After downloading/installing an app direct with your iPhone, the app will or should be transferred to your iTunes library on your computer the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so.
If the app is not in your iTunes library on your computer, with your iPhone connected to iTunes and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.

  • Application language when bought from foreign app store

I'm staying in Japan and using a macbook pro. I want to buy some apps, like pages or numbers for instance, from the Japanese app store using my credit card(issued in Japan). Should I be worried about the interface language of the application? I want the application to use English language.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The application uses the OS X language, so Numbers and Pages will be also available in English even if you purchased them from a foreign App Store. If OS X is set in English, they will use English

  • Purchasing songs from foreign iTunes stores

How do I purchase a song available from the iTunes UK store? I get a message that states I can only purchase songs from the USA store. I really want Kid Rock's new song, "All Summer Long" and it's not available at the US iTunes store.

In order to purchase a song from the U.K. Store, you would need 1)a valid U.K address and 2) a credit card billed to that address or a gift card purchase in the U.K. Sorry.

  • How to Set a Variable with data from Srouce Data Store

    Hello ODI Experts,
I have created a Physical & Logical Schema and a Source Data store to pickup data from a database table.
On the other hand, I have a few variable that I will pass in a web service call (ODIInvokeWebService tool).
Would yo please guide how I can set variables from my source data store.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ahsan

    Hello Bos/Damodhar/ODI Experts,
Doesn't it gives me a less optimized approach picking one column per query (per variable)?
Lets say, I have to pick 35 columns from a table and put those in 35 variables...It would mean running 35 queries for fetching one record from the database table.
Doesn't it seem less performance effective (less optimized)..a little scary..any thing better that I can do to make it more optimized?
Another question, what if multiple new values have come in the DB table, since I am using Refresh Variable, would this variable have multiple values in it?
    Thanks for all your help,
    Ahsan

  • Pulling information from an email and pasting it into the Subject line

i have email requests coming in from project managers that are automatically created after they fill out a form.
Outlook is set up with a rule on their machines to forward the request to my art dept.
Problem is that the emails always have the name of the form as the subject line.
the email generates project info within the body. Is there a way to set up a rule that will pull the info i want from the body of the email and amend the subject line with it?
    Nick

I would like to use the
    "PROJECT NAME
    CUSTOMER REFERENCE OR SITE NAME"
(along with the information that would should have come after it)
    to become the subject line.
I read from your previous post though that scripts should run after rules, so i would need to combine
the rule i am already using into the script correct?
I am a graphic designer, working on storefronts and fascias, i only dabble with outlook so thank you
    for your time.

  • Question slide pulling information from different project

    Hi all,
Not sure if this has happened to anyone before but I started a new project, imported a PPT deck and then started adding question slides. Except that my question slide has a caption from a previous project somehow embedded into it. I can't click on it, I can't delete it. It's even pulling the style of the 'Incomplete Caption'. I don't know how it could possibly be linked to the other project.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

Okay here's what I've found: If I start a new project -> 'From PowerPoint' and I add question slides to the project, the error occurs across the board.
If I start the new project -> 'Blank Project' and 'insert' the exact same PPT deck and THEN add the question slides the error doesn't occur.
Not sure how or why that makes a difference, but for now I'm just happy to get back to work!!
Thanks Manoj for checking this out
