Portal search bar design

I'm designing a new search bar in the partal and is there a way to use simply the search bar without any text or options surrounding it?

Fixed it. Make sure that you do not leave iTunes app while still on search page. Go to something else and then exit. When you reopen the app, the search bar will be back.

Middle click on search suggestions in Search Bar does not switch to new tab

I use profile option "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately" = yes (check marked)
Middle clicking on a search suggestion in the Search Bar does open a new tab but Firefox does not switch to it.
This feature used to work for many years until very recently.

If you want to switch back to using the old bar, it's still hidden inside. Here's how you would do it:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box that appears above the list, type or paste '''search''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the '''browser.search.showOneOffButtons''' preference to switch it from true to false
This doesn't affect the current window, but each new window you open (Ctrl+n) will have the old Search bar.
I'm not sure when that will be phased out...

How to type a URL if Google search bar removed for privacy

Because it appears that in Safari it is impossible to remove the Google Search Bar that's off to the right at the top without also removing the now connected URL Location bar to its left, I removed both. I had noticed that when I did this in Camino, I could still go to a web page by clicking Command L for Open Location (found in the File dropdown menu of most browsers).
But in Safari just now, when I remove the Google search bar that Apple has hard coded to be inseparable from the Location bar to its left, I find I cannot use the File / Open Location command (which I mentioned is Command key - L) and therefore -- is my browser useless if I do not want to document my travels on the world wide web with Google's databases by having the Search Bar up?
In other words is it not possible to enter a URL into Safari in a blank and open the URL Location if you remove the Google Search Bar?
Is the only way to get to a webpage after removing that item to use one's old bookmarks to get to a page?
Or is this a bug and is my "Command key - L" (Open Location command) supposed to be working? I also started to test this with Firefox but it appears my Firefox browser does not have this problem so my Open Location bar remains even if I remove a search bar and the removable search bar it does have is not tied to google in particular, I don't think, in Firefox even if I remove the search bar though I never use a search bar anyway because I don't care to go to any search engine unless I type their URL into my Location bar personally. That's just my preference because I don't trust having third party search bars forced into the browser design.
Is this really true as it appears that there's no way to open a Location in Safari without having the annoying Search Bar up? Is Open Location disabled without the Google Search bar?
If so, it looks like that, of my several browsers, the only one that won't allow me to Open Location (go to a webpage that I type into a Location bar) if I remove the Google Search bar is Safari. I am finding I can successfully extricate myself from Google search if I use Opera, Camino, and Firefox and select Remove after right clicking on the search bar.
Why would the industry be trying to force this Google data mining and surf habits info collection on people? Evidently because Apple would rather take the money from google for forcing google into our browser than protect its customers privacy? I hope this disease does not spread to the other browsers left for me to use. What a monopoly google is building. Too bad antitrust litigation is dead.
(If this is true, this is depressing to me because I had set Safari to be my primary browser. But it seems the least secure browser anyway (compared to using NoScript with Firefox) so I guess I'll have to avoid using it (except on those few pages that won't work without it) until Apple starts taking people's privacy a little more seriously instead of sneaking in more and more features that force us into an unholy logging relationship with Big Brother Google. And I'm disappointed in this development also because I used to like Google before I realized its lawyers were so dedicated to writing privacy policies that are as vague as possible and as unprotective of privacy as possible. I would like to use Google more if they would just stop taking 100 miles when a person gives an inch by using their search engine. I get nervous any time I have to use anything connected with them as things stand and I really wish that would improve and that google will improve its privacy policies rather than finding new ways to log every movement a person makes on the Web.)

I cannot seem to get Open Location (Command - L) to function if I remove the Google search bar. Removing the Google Search Bar seems to also remove the location bar to type into. The search bar is not designed to take you to names beginning with the letter you put in. If you want to do that, use the letters down the side. In the search bar, the device will return results for all contacts that have that have that letter in them. If you type a couple of letters of the name, you'll find what you want faster. Once you get used to how it works, it's quite efficient.

Combinding Resources in the FIM Portal Navigation Bar

We have two different OUs for computers in our AD that have the same attributes. Server and Workstation, there is no attribute that indicates if the computer is a server or a workstation. My solution was to create two different MAs, AD Server MA and Workstation
MA and corresponding Metaversa objects and FIM schema objects. All good so far, I sync the appropriate computer objects from each ou into their corresponding FIM schema objects. I have created FIM Portal Navigation Bar Resources for each
that show the Servers and Workstations correctly. My question is this, I would like a Nav Bar resource - Computers - that combine both of these resources, and then under Computers have Servers and Workstations - is this possible?

thats quite easy to do.
Simple create a "Search Scope" that includes both Computer types.
Use this search scope as the Navigation Bar URL, the easiest way to get the URL (which contains the GUID of the Search Scope) is to add "Global" to the Search Scope Keyword, after that you can use the Search scope from the FrontPage of the Portal
for a search. In IE you should then see the URL for this Search scope an can use this in the NavBar Res.

I can't get rid of bing in the search bar

How can I get my default search engine back to google? Everything I put into the search bar gets searched with bing as the search engine.

You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.

Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.

After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.

Any way to restore a dedicated search bar like IE 8??

I enjoyed being able to type a search phrase in the search bar then search the same topic with different search providers. So far I don't like this combined bar at all and will uninstall IE9 (or just start using Chrome) unless I can find a solutionproduct design guy

Safari search bar stuck on yahoo?

My safari search bar seems to be stuck on Yahoo. I changed the default in Safari preferences to have the search bar be Google, but it hasn't changed. Any suggestions?

Search Bar - Typed info not searching

Hi!
I am very new to web design and using Dreamweaver. I took over a website for a company and have used Dreamweaver to make the changes to the website pages (html). It has a store feature, which I have been able to link the products back to with no problems. I am however having difficulties linking a search. I created the search bar, linked it to the results, but whenever you type a product in the search, it comes up as blank. I know the search feature does work on the website because if you end up in the store pages and search, the products show up. I tried taking the search feature from the store pages but it is an ascx file and does not convert properly in the html files that I have set up. Can anyone help me?

The store site is most likely dynamic - programmed with server-side code and content stored in databases. That site's search feature won't work on your static HTML pages.

Help creating a search bar

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to insert a search bar into my website so that customers will be able to type in keywords (ie. "product name") and be sent to the appropriate pages. Could anyone tell me the best way to do this? I've looked around, and so far it seems like my options are PHP and google, and I don't really know which one I should use or if there are more that I am missing.

Clearing the Address Search Bar

How do I clear the Address Search Bar history?

Resetting Safari doesn't do anything to reset the Address Search.
The Reset is not designed to clear the URL prompts. As I mentioned, these prompts are fed from a number of sources. Short of eliminating your bookmarks, history etc. the prompts are here to stay. Clearing your history and cache ought to eliminate those prompts not associated with existing bookmarks, but that's only temporary. Also, there may be other sources feeding the prompts.
Space bar is by far the easiest (although not very convenient) way to avoid seeing the prompts.

Getting rid of AVG search bar

When I open the new tab page, my thumbnails are shrunken to half their size and an AVG search bar is sprawled across the top of the page. I would like to eliminate that search bar and have the thumbnails restored to their former size. Can that be done?

Thank you for your question. I understand that the new tab page has a search bar and you would like that to be removed as well as restore the tiles to the previous version's size.
Currently this is the design of the new tab page. There is a button on the top right that can hide everything by clicking on it, as well as an about:config entry that stores the url of the page that loads when a new tab is opened. However currently this search bar cannot be removed from the new tab page.

Muse search bar to specific page

Hello,
I am very new to Muse, and so far its been great. This is also my first question on Adobe, so please take it easy on me if I've done anything wrong.
So, here's what I want to do. I am designing a website where I can give a customer a number (such as an order number) and they can type that number into a search bar, and bring up a page with information about their product (eg, is it finished, has it been shipped, and so on.) By using a simple number, and not including any personal information, I can allow my customer to look up their product, without having to log in. Similar to how a UPS tracking number works.
So, here's my problem. I have no idea how to do this. I don't know how to make this search bar, and I don't know how to link the numbers to the information. Should I create a new page with for each number? Is there a widget somewhere in the depths of the internet that would allow me to do this? Do I have to suck it up and force myself to learn HTML? So many questions.
Thank you very much for any help you can provide. I am not a graphic artist, in fact, I'm a biology major. I'm lucky enough that my school has computers filled with Adobe software that I sneak in and play with, but I'm far from an expert.

The only way you would be able to do that in Muse would be to create each page for the clients manually and send them the direct link. As an alternative you could use Business Catalyst as the host and use the tools with in Business Catalyst that do exactly what you need. There is a bit of a learning curve to that though.

Language preference in Safari search bar

Hi all
I can change my language preferences on the Google search page, but this does not carry over to the Safari search bar. Typing a search item into the Safari search bar produces results relevant to my current location. For example, I am in Germany at the moment, so get results in German. If I use VPN, I get results relevant to where that server is located. Is there any way to change the results language preference for the Safari search bar?

Having downloaded Version 2.5.4 (v2.5.4) and attempting to run it with Safari 1.3.1 (v312.3.3) I get the error message "This verson of safari enhancer is not designed for your version of safari".
I am in UK and would like Google UK to be my search engine in the Safari bar.
Where am I going wrong?
