Portal Server 7.2 License & Cost Issues

Hi
I am using Sun java System Portal server 7.2 with sun java system application server 9.1 in development environment now. i have a done good job past one & half years(both portal devlpmnt &admnstrn). we were showed to some clients(demo purpose). finally portal server dropped becz they were saying that these server heavy weight, open source if we are move to production & support we have to pay more amounts. we need light weight componts with low budgets. finally they were choosed sun java system application server 9.1or tomcat webserver.really i am unhappy..
I want know about that Sun Portal Server license & Components Capacity, Production cost why need that much amount?? becz most of the sun product open source.
Current Market & features in portal server ??
Why needs portal server?? i know the features but our teams wont accept.
Can you anyone give me the correct Suggestions & thoughts & ideas etc..
Cheers..
Sekar M

I checked against our development environment right now - and I don't have such an issue; the portal
remains responding.
But beside that, the user don't get administration privileges - neither by adding Top-Level Admin Role, nor
by using the delegation dialogs in psconsole. Maybe, I'm missing some steps.
We use Solaris/Sparc and Sun Java System Application Server with Access Manager in Realm-Mode.
We've installed an interim patch for Portal 7.2, but the Readme doesn't mention a fix for a problem with
psconsole.

  • Portal Server 7.2 stability issues

We are testing a deployment of Sun Portal Server 7.2 on RHEL 4 (AMD hardware), and have come across a disturbing issue:
    1. Create a user at the top level realm
    2. Give this user "Top-level Admin Role"
    3. Log into the Portal console at /psconsole with this new user
Result: the server locks up and stops answering HTTP requests. The images on that first PS console page do not even load. The server "freezes" and refuses to answer requests for this, or any other client system-wide! It must be restarted by hand before any HTTP requests are again served.
So we are investigating deeper, but in the meantime, the questions are:
    * Has anyone seen this before? If so, is there a work-around, or at least a bug-report we can follow?
    * Given the fact that the entire server freezes for all requests, we're understandably nervous about putting this configuration into production - is anybody else currently running 7.2 on RHEL4/AMD in a production environment?
    * On that topic, is anybody out there running 7.2 in production at all? We've heard numerous reports of 7.1 deployments, and also of people who are waiting for 8.0, but so far no indication that anybody at all is running 7.2 for "real" usage - anybody?
Thanks in advance for any and all information.

From the license Administration --- Component tab, I found.
    License                                                                        Start Date              Expiration Date
    DI-Server (DIS)                                                               28/07/08        -        12/08/08
    Compatibility License for AddOns                                    28/07/08        -        31/12/99
    Professional User                                                           28/07/08        -        12/08/08
    SAP AddOns                                                                 28/07/08        -        12/08/08
    Software Development Kit - Development Version              28/07/08        -        31/12/99

    SDK Tools                                                                    28/07/08         -       12/08/08
So according the record---- DI-Server (DIS) license validity upto : 12/08/08
    How I increase that date?

  • Minimizing license costs for multiple users

    Hi all,
I am investigating having multiple users (from different companies) share access to 1 Business One client but have multiple databases (representing each company) connected to this one client.  They would connect via Citrix, Terminal Server etc.  and also via a portal interface from http://www.unitedplanet.com/en/sbo.
In this way the different companies (and their employees) could cut license costs by sharing the license costs of the "one" client installation.  Does anyone knowledgeable about licenses know if this would work or have experience doing this?  What about controlling which databases each user could select through roles and authorization.  What about tracking what each user was doing in the system.  Because if all users shared the same license would there be a way to trace what each user did in the system and better yet, control their authorizations?
    Thanks!
    Kw

    Hi K Herb
Trying to get around SAP Business One licenses is not advisable. I would rather find a cheaper software package if a customer cannot afford SAP software. The licensing is central to all databases and your model would not work. Have you considered looking at the limited financial and limited logistic users which are far cheaper than a full professional license?
The most important part of each physical person having a user license is to control who posted what and when. If you used a single user code, this would be impossible as SAP Business One does not record MAC ID's, machine ID's, etc. of client connections. So to answer your question, this will be a problem and the "fraud" door would be wide open.
Some background on why you are investigating ways around licensing would help us better direct you.
    Kind regards

All components of FIM require at least a server license. If you are not
using the portal you do not need CALs but you always need a server license.

  • Configure WebSphere Portal Server to use LDAP (Oracle Internet Directory)

I did configuration for WebSphere Portal to use security with LDAP Oracle Internet Directory (OID). The script for configuring works well (WPSConfig.bat action-secure-portal-ldap)

If you guys know how to fix it please let me know or point me some documents to configure this again.

com.ibm.wps.ac.DomainAdministratorNotFoundException: EJPSB0107E: Exception occurred while retrieving the identity of the domain adminuser/admingroup uid=wpsadmin,cn=Users,dc=localhost,dc=com.

There is no clear documentation available to enable custom security but IBM info center has decent documentation for LDAP based security. I would say follow the steps mentioned for IBM directory and then modify the necessary configuration parameters for OID. This should solve your issues. For better help open a PMR with IBM to get necessary quick help.

    #  2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server,
    #     which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host.
    #     These directives also provide default values for the settings
    #     of all virtual hosts.
    #  3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to
    #     different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the
    #     same Apache server process.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path.  If the filenames do *not* begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/logs/foo.log".
    # NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
    # instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
    # If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which Apache.exe is located
    # will be used by default.  It is recommended that you always supply
    # an explicit drive letter in absolute paths, however, to avoid
    # confusion.
    ### Section 1: Global Environment
    # The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache,
    # such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it
    # can find its configuration files.
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # NOTE!  If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network)
    # mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation (available
    # at <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mpm_common.html#lockfile>);
    # you will save yourself a lot of trouble.

    # ScoreBoardFile: File used to store internal server process information.
    # If unspecified (the default), the scoreboard will be stored in an
    # anonymous shared memory segment, and will be unavailable to third-party
    # applications.
    # If specified, ensure that no two invocations of Apache share the same
    # scoreboard file. The scoreboard file MUST BE STORED ON A LOCAL DISK.
    #ScoreBoardFile logs/apache_runtime_status
    # PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process
    # identification number when it starts.
    PidFile logs/httpd.pid
    # Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out.
    Timeout 300
    # KeepAlive: Whether or not to allow persistent connections (more than
    # one request per connection). Set to "Off" to deactivate.
    KeepAlive On
    # MaxKeepAliveRequests: The maximum number of requests to allow
    # during a persistent connection. Set to 0 to allow an unlimited amount.
    # We recommend you leave this number high, for maximum performance.
    MaxKeepAliveRequests 100
    # KeepAliveTimeout: Number of seconds to wait for the next request from the

    # The directives in this section set up the values used by the 'main'
    # server, which responds to any requests that aren't handled by a
    # <VirtualHost> definition.  These values also provide defaults for
    # any <VirtualHost> containers you may define later in the file.
    # All of these directives may appear inside <VirtualHost> containers,
    # in which case these default settings will be overridden for the
    # virtual host being defined.
    # ServerAdmin: Your address, where problems with the server should be
    # e-mailed.  This address appears on some server-generated pages, such
    # as error documents.  e.g. [email protected]

    # This can often be determined automatically, but we recommend you specify
    # it explicitly to prevent problems during startup.

    # redirections will not work.  See also the UseCanonicalName directive.

I am not expert in these, but please check out the following things and see whether it would solve your issue. (All these changes can be easily rolled back in case I'm wrong :). So make note of what you do)
As per your httpd.conf, you have chosen an automatic configuration of Apache by OWCI installer itself. What it does is create an imageserver.conf file in a separate directory and these settings will be included in your httpd.conf as you can see in the first line: Include "C:/bea/alui/plumtreeconf/".
If you check the imageserver.conf in that location, you would find a line like: Alias /imageserver/ "C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/". This aliases the original path "C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/" to /imageserver"
To confirm whether this is done right, check the following:
    1. Acces 'http://<server ip / server name / localhost >/' from your browser
This should display the Apache home page (as per your httpd.conf, it uses the default port 80; so no port number required)
    2. Access 'http://<server ip>/imageserver/' from your browser
This should display the directory structure (if its not disabled) inside your 'C:/bea/alui/ptimages/imageserver/' folder. Also confirm that all the subfolders are accessible.
    3. If all the above is right, it means that your imageserver settings are right. Please check your portalconfig.xml for the correct settings: For example, <setting name="HTTPPort"> should be 7001 in your case. If its something else, change it and restart Weblogic for the settings to take effect.
    Hope this helps.

  • Scheduling web intelligence reports from SAP EP Portal : Server Side Trust

    Hello,
We have set-up SSO between SAP EP 701, SAP BI 701 and Business Object XI 3.1  to allow users to access reports without having to sign-on again as explained here :
    /people/ingo.hilgefort/blog/2008/09/19/businessobjects-and-sap--configure-sap-authentication
But, we have recently been contacted by some users because when scheduling Webi Report from a link within the portal they have the following errors :
u201CA database error occured. The database error text is: Unable to connect to SAP BW server System received an expired SSO ticket. (WIS 10901) u201D
The user told us that he doesn't encounter the error when :
Login in directly to the BO Infoview (without SSO from the SAP Enterprise Portal.)
The first Webi scheduling is succesful from the portal (I suppose because the portal token is still valid)
I understand that we also have to configure the Server Side Trust between BO Enterprise server and the SAP BI7 backend as explained here , but I do not really understand its purpose
    https://websmp106.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700001646962008E/XI3-1_BIP_SAP_INSTALL_EN.pdf
    I've found a similar discussions here ;
Issue with SAP Single Sign-On and Scheduling Reports
I still have some questions :
If we configure the Server Side Trust between BO Enterprise server and the SAP BI7 backend .
The Portal Logon ticket will remain an issue at some point of time , does it mean tha the WeBi report job sheduling should not be perfromed from the SAP EP Portal ?
We haven't configured the Server Side Trust , yet the users told us that they are able to schedule webi report directly from the BO Infoview ? How is it posible ?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Regards.

Thank you Mr Hilgefort for your detailled explanations.
I now have to provide some explanations to my managers, and to be honest , there are still some points that
are unclear to me, and it would be extremely helpful if could confirm (or not) the follwoing points.
When scheduing Webi report from the sap portal, we're getting SSO errors.
SAP provide the follwoing note explaining how to extend the validity of the J2EE token (Portal token), but this is not a long term solution, at certain point of time the ticket will expire. Webi shceduling should not be perfromed from the Portal.
Sap note 1352127 - Scheduled Webi report fails with: A database error occurred. The database error text is: Unable to connect to SAP BW server System received an expired SSO ticket
Webi Scheduling should be performed from BO Infoview. SNC should be configured between BO server and SAP BI7.0 backend.
We should Configure Server SNC as explained in the BusinessObjects XI Integration for SAP Solutions Installation and Administration Guide at Chapter "Configuring SAP for server-side trust". (1341043)
The SAP Portal is not involved here and is not an option even with the configuration of SNC/Server side trust.
    thank you for your patience.
    Best Regards.

  • IPlanet Enterprise Web Server hosting a portal server

Has anyone tried to port the Plumtree portal server component to iPlanet Enterprise Web Server (aka SunONE Web Server, v6.0 or later)? Plumtree doesn't support this, but I am trying to merge a custom SSO authenticator to the Plumtree portal (v5.0.1).
I have this working great in security mode 0 (with SSL turned off), but I am having a difficult time getting past one last issue in security mode 2 (full SSL mode). I can get the portal server to run fine in mode 2 through Tomcat on the same machine, using the same certificate and JRE. I can also get iPlanet to run other servlet applications fine with SSL turned on. However, there appears to be either: (1) an incompatibility between iPlanet's NSServlet plug-in that handles servlets and the Plumtree framework classes that set up replies via SSL, or (2) a configuration error in my setup somewhere. I'm hoping that (2) is the real culprit, but I've tried just about everything I can think of, and haven't been able to resolve this problem.
The server starts up fine and I can load non-portal content without a problem. But when I log in, the portal's main community page that should be returned is not being returned to the client. PTSpy doesn't indicate any problems, so I know the content is being built by the portal correctly, but the built page is never being sent back to the requesting client.
Here is the error that gets logged to iPlanet's error log:
[29/Dec/2003:15:05:53] failure ( 2772): Internal error: Unexpected error condition thrown (unknown exception,no description), stack: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/net/ssl/SSLSocket

It looks like a Java classpath issue, but I've verified (even in the same log file with java debugging turned on) that the SSLSocket class is getting loaded. I've even tried moving the specification of the jar file containing this class (jsse.jar, part of the JRE) to the beginning and end of my classpath setting.
I'm using the same JRE that is bundled with the Tomcat release supplied with my Plumtree 5.0.1 installation (1.4.1_02).
I've posted a similar message on a couple other forums (Java and iPlanet-related) and haven't found an answer yet. Does anyone have any ideas?
    John

In case anyone else experiences this, I have apparently stumbled upon an issue with iPlanet's handling a specified JRE/JDK instead of the supplied JDK in iPlanet (SunONE) Web Server v6.0, SP5, though I found a way around it to resolve my problem.
I had been specifying a different JRE to run with through iPlanet's administrative server manager. However, even though I was specifying to load all the JRE's jar files in my classpath setting, iPlanet was only loading the rt.jar file for my specified JRE. With verbose logging turned on, the error log was indicating that the other classpath specified jar files were being loaded, but apparently they were not being used. The JDK that was released with iPlanet appears to be being used for all other JRE classes outside of those defined in rt.jar. Since the JDK supplied with the iPlanet release didn't contain jsse.jar, which contains SSL support, it was not being loaded and was causing the problem I was seeing.
Instead of specifying the JRE of a different JDK that I was using, I changed the global setting in the administrative server manager to override the entire JDK. This has resolved my problem.
So if you specify a JRE to override the iPlanet supplied JDK/JRE, it appears that only the rt.jar file of the specified JRE will be loaded, and the jar files associated with the iPlanet-supplied JRE will be used for all other classes. Specification of a complete JDK to override the supplied one will resolve this, and the portal server appears to work fine now in any security mode setting when hosted on iPlanet Web Server (SunONE), even though Plumtree doesn't support that as a host server application.

  • Windows Server 2012 RDS CALS on Windows Server 2008 R2 Licensing Server

    Hi,
at the moment we are installing the first couple of Windows Server 2012 in our infrastructure.
Some of them have installed RDS.
Now we are wondering whether it is possible to use our existing Windows Server 2008 R2 licensing server for serving the licenses we have (yes we to have new Windows Server 2012 RDS CALS) or whether we have to install a new host based on Windows Server 2012.
We tried to add the new license to the 2008 R2 licensing server, but it is not possible. The licensing manager's error message: "The license code contains invalid characters or not enough characters."
    Is there any other way?
    Thanks and regards
    Matthias

    Hi matt_will_fix_it,
    How about Windows 2012 R2 ?
Will a Windows 2012 RD Licensing server provide licences to a Windows 2012 R2 server?
I have not tested it, but it should work.  Server 2012 R2 requires the same RDS CAL version as Server 2012.  If you try it and have an issue please reply back.

  • Licensing cost: For SAP R/3 4.7 to ECC 6.0 Upgrade

    Hello,
I am planning to upgrade my SAP R/3 4.7 System to ECC 6.0.
I would like to know whether any additional Licensing cost is involved for this SAP software upgrade.
Also, I have three system landscape. Can you give me some pointers to SAP Upgrade Roadmap and Upgrade strategies for 3 system landscape upgrade?
    Thanks.
    -Nirav.

    Hi Nirav,
the maintenace cost will be the same as before.
the maintanance cost include the possibility
that if you pay the maintenace fee regularly you can always get the
newest software releadse and the support packages and kernel for it.
please also look at this link.

    scanzano,
I was wondering if you ever received and answer to this question, becuase I am faced with the same problem when I attempt a signon to the 'admin server' I receive the following message:
    type Status report
message Invalid direct reference to form login page
description The request sent by the client was syntactically incorrect (Invalid direct reference to form login page).
This is displayed as an "HTTP Status 400 - Invalid direct reference to form login page!!??" It appears that this message has been around for a while so I'm wondering if this issue will ever get resolved??
