Portal sites using Personalization Server

One of our customer is a big portal site. They are using Vignette for
content management. They want to change their infrastructure. They want to
getrid of Vignette.
Is there any portal site using a solution Personalization server + Weblogic
Server for their sites ?

I solved this by turning off passive mode. I was using iWeb and Rapid Weaver for creating websites and had the same problem. Now they both work fine on the transfer. Hope this helps.

I have a similar problem. I want to connect to a URL, but not using proxy. From outside BEA or in BEA 6.1 it works OK, but not in BEA 8.1.
Did you get to solve your problem ?

Does anyone know how to publish a site using Lion server.

I have made a web site using I web and was trying to publish it using FTP and lion server but was quite sure were to find the server address and other required info.
If anyone can help it'd be greatly appreciated.

You shouldn't need to use ftp to publish a site when using a server, this is the whole point, that you are not uploading anywhere external, but are hosting yourself on a dedicated computer running a server.
This is not really the place to ask. There should be more forums here that are specially dedicated to Lion server issues.
Try looking at the pages on the Apple site under info on Lion server and there should be a user manual for you to look at for Lion sever. Try looking at this.
This is an iWeb forum so not really the right place to ask questions regarding server issues.

Real portal site using WLP

I need to work on a existing portal in WLP81. There is no difference with the other j2ee sites I worked before except it uses java page flow. I am wondering how the other good real portal looks like. Anyone mind to share your WLP site?

On a book in workshop you can configure the Navigation property in the Property editor.
Multi Level Menu is a javascript based menu which is out of the box and will behave like this site, however it will show all the entitled books to any number of levels.
If this doesnt work for you then you need to create your own custom menu by (for 8.1 and probably similar for later versions)
a. Create a menuname.menu in framework/markup/menu (modify an existing one and change all the names and skeletonUri
b. Create a jsp which is responsible for rendering the menu. Within this jsp you are free to create the menu as you want (e.g. downloading a menu script from dynamicdrive and generating the links dynamically in the jsp). You can use multilevelmenu.jsp as a starter to see how to extract entitled book and page name's recursively.
Finally you can apply different menu's to different books so one book can have a horizontal javascript menu and a contained book can have a left bar menu.

What is the best practice to connect 2 sites and replicate ADDS between 2 different sites using windows server 2012 r2?

I found that there is new features remote access inside windows server 2012 r2 which is much more easier. Is there anybody can suggest me how to connect 2 different sites and it will be the tunnel to replicate ADDS (RW) between both sites.

Can't get to portal site using IE , but can get to it using Netscape

In IE 5.5, I keep getting the following error:
Call to WPG_SESSION API Failed.
Error-Code:20000
Error TimeStamp:Fri, 27 Jul 2001 18:08:14 GMT
Database Log In Failed
TNS is unable to connect to destination. Invalid TNS address supplied or destination is not listening. This error can also occur
because of underlying network transport problems.
Verify that the TNS name in the connectstring entry of the DAD for this URL is valid and the database listener is running.
But in Netscape 4.75 it goes to the site fine.
Some people I have asked to check it on their systems say that it works for them in IE, but not in Netscape.
Would this be a caching problem? We tried clearing the cache for the browsers that displayed this error, but it still didn't work.
Would anyone know why this would happen? I have seen some mention before about this being an error due to the expiration fo the portal30_public password. Would this be the case here?

Hi Anne,
I have the same error sometimes.
Somehow your cookie is invalid.
Try finding your PORTAL30_SSO cookie and delete the file.
(Or delete all your cookies [C:\winnt\profiles\username\cookies])
Then close Internet Explorer.
Now when you try again it should work fine.

Any reference site using CISCO or Big -IP for load balancing

we are considering switch based load balancing solution for middle tier. Are there any pointers , reference sites ?
I am aware of sites using Metrics Server for forms server load balancing. We are not planning to use MS.

Hi Naveen,
You need to do following steps (Try first in Test env ;)
1. Login in to Oracle Applications Manager Portal
2. Navigate to AutoConfig section (Site Map->AutoConfig)
Configuration Wizards
Click on "Launch Wizards"
3. Fill in fields as instructed.
(Basically you need to put Vhostname + Apache Port number)
4. Run autoconfig
If you haven't got those wizards:
1. Install Latest OAM patches (It is good idea to be on the latest patches of technology stack of Apps).
2. Or if you cant, you can to try edit Context XML file for each server manually:

Personalization Server with 3 column portal

Has anyone succeeded in working around the 3 column limit
in the current version of personalization server? Or any news

The portlets are layed out in a single HTML table in
portalcontent.jsp, which is included with <jsp:include> in
portal.jsp. The default implementation is a simple solution
designed for speed. Because the layout is HTML and JSP combined
with portlet properties to define the location, it is not impossible
to change the layout possibilities.
I know that a few people have implemented a very flexible layout,
almost like a GridBagLayout, to allow portlets to span columns. The
content management system was used to load metadata about the
position of each portlet.
Because the portal presentation is based on JSP the layout is not
technically limited. The default implementation was designed to be
simple and fast. More complex layouts require coding.

- the creation of users in the portal admin tool (portaladmin) doesn't
work, if you want to create a user in this tool you can't enter a
password, is this the correct behaviour, or I'm doing something wrong ?
- the personalization server needs a database for the portal
configuration, the product has the Cloudscape for demo, and has scripts
to the instalation for production in the Oracle 8.0.5, are there some
scripts created for MS SQLServer?

Just a clarification on the scripts question. There is no separate executable
that will create the tables for any database except for Cloudscape. However,
all of the ddl has been included, so that you can open up a sql tool for your
database and run the ddl through it, which will create the required tables.

Can anyone point me to any site using BEA Weblogic Portal 7.0? I just
want to see a web site on the internet (no intranets) that actually
uses this on a production environment to show our management that

Using sjsws to host many small servlet/jsp sites on one server

Hello. I visited the web page at http://www.sun.com/software/products/web_srvr/features.xml, which mentions that sjsws supports mass hosting of thousands of domains. Anyone knows more information about this feature? I want to find out whether sjsws is a good choice for hosting many small servlet/jsp sites on one server.
Some time ago, I tried using apache+tomcat to host many small servlet/jsp sites on one server. But the result was not satisfactory. If a private tomcat/jvm is used for each site, too many resources are consumed and as a result, not many sites can be hosted on one server. If a shared tomcat/jvm is used for all sites, the resources consumed are reduced, but it becomes very difficult to isolate the sites. Is it possible to overcome such problems with sjsws?

Of course you dont have to use multiple VMs to host multiple applications.
You can either choose to have multiple Virtual Servers, all in one instance of the web server, serving multiple applications. In this case only one java VM is used.
Or you can go in the route posted in the link above, in which there is only one "physical" virtual server, with many dynamic virtual servers.
Whether you chose to have many multiple web applications, or do the server division in a similar way to what is described in the blog, it is up to you.
Many different web applications will give you more fine level control on the application separation, but it will probably also mean greater resource consumption associated to the web application managing.
Less web applications, but with dynamic separation, in a similar way to what is described in the blog, will give a lesser control on the applications, but will save you a good number of resources.
SJS Web Server is known to work in massive web sites, with very high number of JSPs and Servlets. There is some real life examples of this massive hosting. Maybe others can provide some numbers here :P

We are an education site using Portal. We would like to define a taxonomy of perspectives and categories for our site.

Using Lion Server as a web server for Wordpress sites?

Is anyone doing this? I have a few low traffic Wordpress sites I'd like to move to a Lion server I already have at MacMiniColo to try and reduce my costs.
Obviously I'll have to install MySQL and MySQL Workbench for the databases, which I'm fairly comfortable with, however I'm not sure what the best route for FTP access to the WP directories is. I've looked at Rumpus but it's just a little too pricy for my needs.
Does anyone have any advice?

John, I guess you did install MySQL and got Wordpress running? I use the default location for web sites on Lion server. So my site is in /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/wordpress/. Since the directory is owned by _www I use root to retrieve and put files under this directory. My own user account would not have sufficient rights. It is not safe to use root with ssh with a password, so you will have to make sure you can only login as root with an ssh key. Therefore edit /etc/sshd_config and make sure that a line with 'PermitRootLogin without-password' is present. sshd or your server should be restarted then.
On you local mac you can use the terminal to generate a key. Use 'ssh-keygen'. Here (and on various other web pages) you can find how to do this:

On the server you will have to put the authorized_keys file in /var/root/.ssh/
Now you can use cyberduck and let it authenticate with the key you have generated (id_rsa if you use the web page I pointed to). Then you can go to the wordpress directory and upload or edit files.
