  • Best practice for moving portal solution using content db from UAT to PROD

    Hi,
Would like to know can we backup the database from UAT env. and restore the  same to  PROD. if all of my functionality is working fine in UAT env.
I have event receivers[web level features], site collection level features, custom web parts, custom permissions, saved site templates, custom discussion forums etc.
Assuming that I have my custom solution deployed on the Prod. which will activate features for those web parts and my custom application page features.
Is there any issues I can anticipate in PROD.env, if i perform this activity.
    or
Is this approach not recommended by Microsoft ? if yes , whats the best approach for deploying portal solution in PROD?
Should I create teh web application, site collections, everything in PROD.from scratch.
any links regarding this approach and the bext practices / helpful info is appreciated.

    Thanks Trveor for the reply.
so, I can go ahead and  create the web applns, site collections and  deploy my web parts, item event receivers, appln pages and my timer jobs in UAT and take the  backup of the same and restore it in PROD env.
But, i ahve a doubt here , as I have few site pages created it in my site template and when i take the backupof this web apppln's content db --- [ i think i can take the backup of web appln content db through power shell] ----
will the site pages also be part of this backup?
I had some experience in prev.version of SP, wherein i have few site pages and saved site template I have taken the backup of the  web appln and  restore it in another farm and  associate the restored content db to the
newly created web appln in the targeted farm.
But when I navigated to thsoe restored site pages, it gave me "resource not found /file not found " error.
I had  deployed the custom web parts as a custom wsp and added into those site pages.
and it failed to load those web parts UI.
I was not sute whether this happened because of backup or restore from source  spfarm to the  targeted sp farm .

  • Federated Portal solution with 2004sBI.

    Hi,
I would like to know the limitation when using fedelated portal solution with 2004s BI. that means 2004s BI web functionalities are used via Enterprise-wide portal, diferent from portal component for BI.
many customers who decide to implement mySAP ERP2005 solution is likely to implement 2 portal components. One is only for BI, another is for Enterprise wide portal, without considering system configuration deelpy.
About the portal content, the following URL show the solutions.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/43/92dceb49fd25e5e10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm
    -Integration using a URL iView
    -Export/import
    -Global portal (federated portal)
I think the global portal is the best.
About the KM contents, I am now think what is the best way.
I think by using fedelated portal solution, KM content iView and KM navigation iView can be used on the corporate wide portal.
But I am not KM expert and now am considering how to use KM contents which is on BI's EP(KM) as same as those on Enterprise wide portal. is it possible if setting webdav on repository manager on enterprise wide portal?
    Kind reagards,
    Masaaki

There are a lot of things to consider with KM, one repository or 2? The federated Portal will work with assigning a KM navigation iView to a Role and using remote role assignment. This would put KM on the producer portal. The other option is to setup a Remote KM Repository on the Consumer Portal that points to the producer. This way you can broadcast to the producer KM repository and see this in the Consumer Portal.
With Collaboration Rooms, there are some limitations, such as the Room Directory doesn't work with remote URL iViews or Remote Role Assignments as it launches the URL on the consumer instead of the producer. Currently, Collaboration Rooms should be centralized on your single consumer. If you need to broadcast to it in the producer, you would have to setup a link to a remote repository...
Therefore, if you're working with KM specifically, it all works within the framework, but you need to decide how centralized or decentralized you want your document storage, so there are a lot of project considerations on this one....
Also, webdav works to access the KM repository both on the consumer and producer...

  • SMD Wizard Setup for the Portal-solution

    Hi!
I would like to set up Diagnostics via SMD Wizard for the portal solution.
The problem of the execution is all the 12 steps were ended without success.
The error by first 4 (all of type: HTTP) is:
P4 port is unknown. System cannot be set up.
If I go back I can see that P4 port is setting as "0".
Can some one help me to solve this problem?
    Thank you very much!
    regards
    Thom

    Hi Thom,
I do not undertand you, by running the URL, I gave to you, you should have:
    version 1.0
    J2EE19192200
    J2EE     host     50100     LB=1
    J2EES     host     50101     LB=1
    P4     host     50104     LB=1
    P4S     host     50106     LB=1
    P4HTTP     host     50105     LB=1
    JC_host_SM9_01
    SDM     host     50118
    then P4 -> is 50104.
You need to adapt it the managed wizard.
New version of the setup is availalbe in http://service.sap.com/diagnostics with information about the wizard.

  • Any reason for more push from MS for Client OM and REST API during the SP 2013 portal solution dev

    hi,
Would like to know, why Microsoft has put more emphasis on Client OM and REST API in SP 2013 portal solutions dev.
Is there any prticular reason for this.If we develop our solutions in Server Object  Model any performance/scalability related issues would be appearing in the near future , once i "Go Live" of my portal ?
Any indications given by MS saying, "we  wont allow ISV/vendors/ to build  server object model based solutions in the near future".

The real question might be "how long will there be an on premise version of SharePoint?" or "will we move our SharePoint to the cloud in the future?" There is an obvious push to the cloud for SharePoint. While all indications point to at least one more on
premise version of SharePoint, as a best practice any code you develop should run in both environments, and that will limit you to the new app model.
As far as performance, traditional server side code runs on the web front end servers. Any poorly performing code would have a negative impact on the servers and users. Therefore, performance/scalability is up to the skills of the developer. The primary
change around the app model is to move all custom code off of the web front ends and onto the client or other servers (via web services). Using the app model you can scale the app servers as needed separately from the "SharePoint" servers. (and of course,
your code would might still work if your SharePoint environment later moves to the cloud.)

  • Integrating IdM into portal solution?

Hello there, I usually hang around in the IdM forum, but I don't seem to get much response on my questions about how to integrate IdM 7.1 in a portal solution, so I thought that this forum might be the right place
Would any of you portal gurus be able to explain how one would go about integrating NetWeaver Identity Management 7.1 into a portal solution? I would imagine that it should be fairly straight forward as IdM 7.1 is based on a java stack system.
    Best regards,
    Anders

Hello Sridhar, thanks a lot. I overlooked that the integration actually was described in the official documentation. Best regards, Anders

  • Integration: how to best access and run SAP through Portal

We are currently using Oracle Portal for publishing reports directly from our EDW, for giving access to some applications and for delivering unstructured information.
In the future we are very likely to give our suppliers and employees access to reports and interfaces for conducting transactions straight into SAP. This is most likely done via a web GUI.
One way to do this of course is to implement the SAP Portals solution, the other is to keep using Oracle Portal and access SAP Portlets/iViews from there - the latter is to be preferred based on the cost of switching platforms, but we have also to take into account the cost of integration.
So to my question: What would be the best way to integrate these to systems? Has it been done before? Is Web Services the way to go? ???????

Ajax is a microsoft toolkit that the web site is using and is not compatible with Safari. They only support I.E. and windows.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Advanced tab. Enable the Develop menu. In the Develop menu select User Agent and then try Internet Explorer 9.

  • BEA vs. Oracle Portal

Were a BEA shop using BEA application server 8.x and currently evaluating Portal solutions, for the most part we have settled on BEA but Corporate has asked us to consider Oracle. I already have some competitive info from our BEA sales guy but I was hoping to get some insight from some of you that have had the pleasure of working with both tool sets. Any feedback would be appreciated.

WebLogic Portal 10.3.6 is the last version of WLP, you can upgrade your application from 9.2 to 10.3.6 with tools provided by Oracle.
Oracle Portal 11g is a complete different product.

  • ISE - Guest Portal Voucer

    hi all,
my customer has set Wireless LAN Guest Voucher for 28 days however after 6 days its not working.
Our customer gives Wireless LAN Guest User a 28 days voucher from ISE Guest Portal Solution. After 6 days of using the accounts will not work. Must be deleted and added new. These accounts are not expired, but the login will fail after 6 days.
any idea why this is or do I need to escalte this to Cisco?
    regards,
    Lance

You might have another limiter in there. have are your durations configured?
    //////only if expiring////////////////////////
You are probably hitting the account duration set on the Sponsor Group that created the voucher.
this can be set under administration -> sponsorgroups -> click on the sponsor group in question -> authorization levels -> and set the Max duration for accounts.

  • Portal integration with Busniess Objects

    Hi,
I have a customer who is looking for Oracle portal solution. They have an sso in place using Business Objects and they also have Active Directory for storing user information. They just want to login to Portal through SSO and access their Business Objects Application.
Any inputs on how this can be done?

Have you tried adding Business Objects as an External Application?
We use the Portal External Application portlet and our Business Objects site is part of that portlet.
The drawback is that users must maintain their BO password in the Portal External Applications portlet.

Any inputs on how this can be done?

    Hi Vinay,
We have done the similar kind of implementation, the scenario was same where client has more than 500 rpeorts and all needs to be shown on Portal.
For this we used the HTML file which is hosted in Portal KM and all the report links were provided in HTML page.
For Security purpose we have created KM Navigation iView using LinkListExplorer template where each report is controled using the KM permissions.
Few reports which needs personalizations are controlled using URL iView where Info view link is used and the page is opened in new window so that the SSO will be taken care and less load on Portal.
All the reports are working absolutely fine.
    Thanks.

  • Why do I need a Portal

    Hi All
Thought this is right forum to ask this question.
Our company develops web based apps and we are looking to enter portals market,
    I have some basic questions...
    1. What is the difference between Portal and Web Application.
    2. Should we develop Portlets and Web Apps.
    3. What do my customers have to gain if we have portlets.
    4. If in portals lot of othere apps are running how am I sheilded from other apps

I googled before posting my questions (did not find good answers). It will help

    Hi All

Our company develops web based apps and we are looking to enter portals
    market,
    I have some basic questions...
    1. What is the difference between Portal and Web Application. In J2EE a Web Application, could have 1-n portals. From a functionality side,
in addition to all the J2EE capabilities, the BEA Weblogic Portal offers a full
suite of Portal Services and a extremely robust and flexible Portal Framework
to help companies deliver Portal solutions. More on the features here:
    http://www.bea.com/content/news_events/white_papers/BEA_WL_Portal_81_ds.pdf
    2. Should we develop Portlets and Web Apps. This will depend on your product and how you see it integrating with portals.
If you are planning to support many portal products, you should look JSR 168.
If you plan to build primarily for BEA there are several types of portlets available
including Java Page Flows (Struts based), JSP, Struts, and another new type in
tech preview right now is WSRP.
    3. What do my customers have to gain if we have portlets. If your customers have already deployed a portal solution it would be easier
for them to deploy your product in the portal environment if you provide portlets.
If you provide a stand along app there could be some integration work required.
This will also depend on how you build your app.
    4. If in portals lot of othere apps are running how am I sheilded from
    other apps
corrupting (like crash of other portlets) my portletThere are several factors playing here. Typically, portlets should not try to
impact other portlets. Portlets may communicate with each other during execution,
but again they should not actively try to impact other portlets. A good strategy
is to make sure your portlets can run flawlessly.

  • Using Novell Portal Services in Oracle Portal

    Hi,
We're currently looking into several Portal solutions and I'd therefore like to know if the gadgets provided by Novell can be used in Oracle Portal?

While there is no direct integration between the two, it is possible that you could write Oracle portlets that "wrap" the results of a Novell gadgets.
