Portege 3440 Display driver problems (2nd Screen)

Hello to the complet comunity.
I hope you will understand my post and will have not so big problems to understand it. I come from Germany.
The Toshiba is a very wonderful Notebook. But since I have updated it from Win98Se too Windows 2000 I have a porblem with the display driver. I want to expand my desktop to an external display. This was no Problem under Win98Se. But with Win 2000 Sp3 I did not get it working. I have dry a lot of divernt drivers. Of course also the drivers from the support page. In the displayproperties I can choose S3DuoView, but it doesnt work. The internal and externel display with the same picture is no problem. But I want seperate pictures, for a example with PowerPoint or only to have more place on the desktop.
Have somebody a woriking 3440 with Win2000 an two Displays.
Temporaly the actuell version 5.12.01.7048 is "working".
A new installation does not help. The same problem apears.
Thank you for reading this long text.
Greetings Spothuhn

Hi
I assume you want enable the extended desktop on your Portege.
You have suggested that the 5.12.01.7048 graphic driver is working.
On the Toshiba driver page I have found 2 different drivers for S3.
One version is 7.31.26 and the other driver is 5.12.1.7009.
I suggest that the 5.12 version is a little older. In this case try to install the 7.31 driver version. It would be very interesting to know if it will help.
Which BIOS version did you have installed on the unit? The newest version is 1.6.
Maybe the newest BIOS will help you.
Bye

I have a problem that I hope someone can help with When I place any of my work or a photo into CS5-Ext. I can't do any work on it? I've tried all sorts and it's driving me nuts, Can anyone help?---PLEASE---
    Thanks.

That sounds like a display driver problem.
    What OS are you running?
If Windows, you can often visit the web site of the maker of your video card and download/install an updated driver.
If OSX, you need to look to Apple and their OS updates to get updated display drivers.

  • Display driver problem!

Im trying to open a .psd file and it wont let to open it..It says photoshop encoutnered a problem with the display driver and has disabled the GPU enhancements!
GPU enchancemnts can be enabled in the performance panel of prefences..
If the image opens some how, I get a pop up saying there is a problem photoshop cs4 needsto shut down ..sigh!
    what should I do?

Is your video card on the list of cards tested by Adobe?
    http://www.adobe.com/go/kb405711
It may not fulfil the system requirements for Photshop CS4.
    This is from Adobe:
Photoshop CS4 leverages the graphics display card's GPU*, instead of the computer's main processor (the CPU) to speed its screen redraw. For Photoshop to access the GPU, your display card must contain a GPU that supports OpenGL and has enough RAM to support Photoshop functions--at least 128 MB of RAM--and a display driver that supports OpenGL 2.0 and Shader Model 3.0.
    * GPU - Graphics Processing Unit. The computer chip on your graphics display card, that is optimized to display computer graphics to the screen.

  • Portege Z930 - Display Driver doesn't work correctly

    Hello,
we have a Portege Z930 with Windows 7 64 bit in use where the Intel Display Driver seem to work incorrectly.
First problem is the slow presentation on display - if we open a picture (simple JPG) and move the window, the window frame will break during the move and be shown very bizarre.
Next we installed a dynadock U3.0 docking station for using two external displays additionally. This works even worse. For the docking station we used the driver from the CD included on delivery, and we connect it over an USB 3.0 slot.
On booting switching onto the 2 displays instead of the internal notebook display doesn't work - so we use the workaround of using an extended desktop over all 3 displays (2 externals and the internal notebook display as third).
In Internet Explorer we had to switch off GPU Rendering and use Software Rendering instead because otherwise we observed critical misfunctions on the external displays (having 2 windows open the display froze or couldn't show moving windows). Nevertheless the display is not satisfactioning.
We already tried 3 different versions of the recommendet Intel Driver which is also offered by Toshiba for download; we loaded it there and also 2 more versions (one newer, one older) from Intel directly.
So how can we get that working correctly?
    Thanks in advance and regards,
    N. Cochems

Most importantly. make sure you have Win7 Service Pack 1 installed. New notebooks have problems running in win7 RTM (no service packs).
Sounds like Windows is using the standard VGA driver instead of the Intel driver. Uninstall all the display drivers from Control Panel->Programs and Features then go to the Toshiba website and install the Intel Chipset Utility then the Intel Display Driver, then go to DisplayLink.com and install the latest DisplayLink driver for the dynadock. The new DisplayLink v7.xx driver fixes many problems found in the v6.xx drivers.
Double check that the Intel drivers are installed correctly in Device Manager.

  • Latest Windows 7 on latest Mac OS X via Boot Camp = display driver problems

I've just done (with difficulty) a Windows 7 installation via Boot Camp on my hot new Mac Quad. But when I use Photoshop Elements for Windows-- the problem may occur with other Windows applications too but I haven't tried them yet-- I'm getting frequent blackouts and recoveries accompanied by the now slightly infuriating error message, "DISPLAY DRIVER STOPPED RESPONDING AND HAS RECOVERED. Display driver Radeon ATI family stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
I'm also getting frequent spotty screens which suggest compatability problems. What gives? Are other people troubled by this? Seems to me that this is a problem crying out for an Apple software fix. But other people may have an answer now.

Did you uppdate to bootcamp 3.1? To update to 3.1 you need to have installed 3.0 from your Snow Leopard install disc. What version of the display driver are you using.
See this thread that just started too.

3.1 solved the "display stopped responding" for me. Of course that introduced other issues.
Check your driver version and read here for other display issues fun...

  • T61 Display Driver Problem

Starting today I have been having some rather severe problems with my laptop's display driver it seems. I am using Vista, and whenever I run my computer in normal mode every 10-15 seconds the screen freezes up, goes black, and then recovers telling me that the display driver has crashed and then recovered. These freezes continue at this rate for maybe a few minutes until the computer completely freezes up and can only be shut down by holding the power button. Currently I'm running in safe mode, and everything is going smoothly. Is this a hardware problem or a software problem, and is there anything I can do to fix it or does it need to be taken in for service?
    Thanks,
    Ethan

    Ethan1, welcome to the forum,
if you have updated the system try rolling back to the original driver, this can be found in C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\VIDEO if you have a factory installation. Otherwise go to this site and download the appropriate driver for your ThinkPad, it maybe you have received an unsuitable video driver through windows update, Lenovo drivers are adapted for the system and the windows update drivers are generic which can sometimes cause a problems.

  • Display driver problem - Premiere Elements will not start

Premiere Elements 10 will not run on my computer unless I downgrade to an old display driver. I would do this but it causes other problems.
I am using the most recent driver from NVidia (but a pretty old display card).  I get this message: "We have detected an incompatible display driver... driver details: NVidia Geforce GTS 250/pCIe/SSE2 3.0.0"
    On Windows 7
    Can anybody help with this?

Have you manually gone to the nVidia web site and downloaded the latest driver?
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
This fixes about 95% of these types of issues.
Also, you definitely do have a BadDriver.txt file on your computer. And you may need to delete it to clear this error.

  • Downgrading T61 from Vista to XP Display Driver Problem

Hi, We have recently downgraded a T61 laptop's OS from Windows Vista to Windows XP SP2 using the recovery CDs provided by the vendor. After the downgrade, all the factory default applications and drivers were installed properly, except for the video driver. I have downloaded and installed the available display driver from Lenovo web site (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/license.do?filename=mobiles/7ld150ww.exe) but whenever I try to install it, it gives me the following error message:  "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will now exit."  I am confident that our laptop meets the minimum requirements: It has 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD etc. Any idea how to solve this problem.  Many thanks in advance! - Cris

    Cris, welcome to the forum,
it would be helpful if you could post which T61 system you have, even better post the Type and Model Number this will help members to help you. If it ends in CTO please provide some details about it. Please do NOT post your s/n.

  • Satelite Pro A200 ATI display driver problem

    Hello there,
Have following problem: Can't install ATI software on my notebook. There is an error message during installation: "Catalyst Install Manager can't initialize Detection Manager".
    OS - Vista Business
Display adapter - Mobility Radeon HD2600
    Any suggestions?

    Hi
    You could try to use another installation procedure;
    - Unzip the ATI graphic card driver package
    - access the device manager and choose the graphic card
    - choose update the driver and point to the palace where the display driver package was unzipped.
This should help to renew and to reinstall the graphic driver.

  • Satellite 2430-402, Display Driver Problem

I have a Satellite 2450-201. Very often when the system comes back from Hibernate the system will not re-boot, it gets stuck after the opening logo. I have to shut it off and then then got to safe mode, and then restart. I get a message that the system has recovered from a device failure and it identifies the Nvidia Display Driver as the culprit. I have re-loaded the latest Driver from Toshiba, but if I try ANY update from Microsoft the Display goes crazy, and I have to go throught the re-boot and safe mode thing again. Any ideas on what the problem may be?

  • T410: display driver problem // display does not turn on again after turned of by e.g. (fn+F3)

    Hello,
    I have a problem with my T410 (model: 25223FG)with Nvidia NVS 3100M  (driver version 8.17.12.5738  (27.06.2010) ) .
The Fn+F3 Key-Command is configured to turn of the display.
In almost 50% of the cases where I use the Key-Command (fn+F3), the display turns off but does not turn on again on mouse movement or key-press or touch-pad action. The faulty behaviour occures always when the T410 is connected to the AC adapter. And the chance of the display not turning on again seems to become higher with increase of the duration between Key-Command and mouse movement.
In these test cases my energy manager configuration was set to not turn of anything, when connected to AC.
If I configure it to turn of the display after some time I am experiencing the same problem.
    So my question is:
Does anyone have a suggestion where to start? (display driver, bios,...)
    Regards
