Portege A600-12O - Can't reinstall Windows XP

While reinstalling windows XP on Portege A600-12O, I am receiving following error:
Built-in HDD Error:The Product recovery CD is unable to reinstall the OS.
Further, I tries to install XP SP2 using Microsoft's cd (...needless to mention without any success)...
following error is flashed on the screen:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
if this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Hello
In my opinion the error message from Toshiba recovery disk is very interesting and says a lot. What do you think about this?
If your HDD is defective you need a new one and you are not able to reinstall the OS. Maybe your HDD must be exchanged.
In your case I would contact an authorized service provider. The technicians can check your notebook and if its under warranty you should get a new HDD for free.

  • Can I reinstall Windows 7 on Boot Camp with the same product key?

I have run into some issues with my Windows partition, so I want to reinstall Windows 7. I have a genuine copy of Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.
What I wish to do is to completely remove the Boot Camp partition, and then create a new one and install Windows 7 over it. However, I have only 1 product license key. When I reinstall Windows 7, it's going to ask for the product key, whih is obviously going to be denied because I have used it.
Is there any way I can acquire another key for this purpose? I am willing to pay a small fee, but I am definitely not willing to pay the full amount for a new Windows 7 copy.
Furthermore, and a little off-topic: Does anyone know if there are any compatability issues with the Windows 8 dev edition and Boot Camp? Can I use the support software for Windows 7? Will it be able to take advantage of the hardware? Will I get sound and internet? Will I be able to scroll with my trackpad?
    Thanks.
[EDIT] I forgot to mention that the main reason I have to create a new partition instead of just Custom Installing over the previous one, is because I require a larger partition size.

    Thanks for your help!
Not to be a pain, but I just want to clarify some things.

The retail version can be reinstalled as much as you want, even to a new computer (just not two at same time)
Yes it will activate just fine on reinstall. Not an issue.
Let's assume I do not have issues about reallocating disk space, and just want to re-do my whole partition. Here's what I would do. Please tell me if it would work fine, or if I would hit a snag somewhere:
Have original retail W7 disk at hand (the one I previously used for my first install).
Remove existing partition using Boot Camp Assistant.
    Re-install using the said disk.
W7 should activate without a problem, even though I've used the license before.
Do I have to do anything on Windows before re-installing it to "deactivate" the copy (or something along those lines) before I can re-activate successfully on my new install?
    And what is System Builder?
    Thanks for all your help!

  • I can't reinstall Windows Xp pro SP3 from installation disk on my IBM Thinkpad T40

    Dear folk,
I have bought used IBM Thinkpad t40 in Germany.
It has Windows XP in German, wich works well but it makes some dificulties while I am using some functions.
I decided to reinstall Windows XP Pro in English.
My Windows XP Pro CD instructed me to install XP from BIOS.
    This is how it works.
I got to BIOS by clicking blue button "IBM acsess".
I have got to BIOS released in 15/05/2003.
My Win XP Pro CD instructed me to press Delete to boot Cd-Rom and run Win XP installator.
Meanwhile, pressing "Delete" button did not produce any effect.
I got to Start up menu in BIOS, then I tried to run CD-Rom to run Windows XP from my installation CD.
But it has not produce any effect.
    System stayed still.
As result, I can not install Windows XP English version.
Please, hint me how can I reistall Windows XP English on my notebook.
May be something with old BIOS version and I has to update it?
Should I use other menu in BIOS for installation (actually I used all of them)?
    Or anything else? Please, advice.
Or I has to learn German? )))
    Looking forward for any help.

    Hi and welcome..
leave short your german XP on your T40 ... you need it to update BIOS..
first i prefer to update your BIOS ... Download this T40 BIOS
    Version: 1RETDRWW (3.23) Release Date: 2007/07/03
you see this is abit newer ... follow the instructions to update...if update is successfull...you can go in BIOS
look at tab startup ... change startup sequence so that DVD/CD Drive is on first place and usb-device on second and HDD on third you can move this via F5 / F6.. exit and save with F10 ...
Download all drivers that you need from this page and save them on extra USB Stick or external HDD...you will need this to complete your install after XP is fresh installed
    T40 Driver Table
Insert your English XP with SP3 in DVD/CD Drive and restart...
if a message comes press space to install from CD ...
follow the instructions.. delete (format drive C: where the german XP is ... and install XP in english..
when installation process is done... look at device manager you see many yellow questionmarks ..no installed drivers... Now use the pre-downloaded drivers from external HDD/USB Device... keep in mind that drivers are compressed when clicking on that the driver first deflates to c:\drivers\win\ [foldername]... sometimes you have to go in the correct folder and start setup to install it for real...
or you can install TVSU ThinkVantageSystemUpdater:
    TVSU
that helps you .. but in that case you have to install Wireless or Cable Network first...
i dont prefer this because at this time you dont have a antivirus program ..
a small and good advice is AntiVir you can freewareversion download here
    Free Antivir English
So good luck ...with fresh "english XP" on your T40...

  • Can I reinstall Windows in Boot Camp without unpartitioning my hard drive?

    Hi!
I've had my iMac with Boot Camp for a while, and I'm the kind of person that likes to download lots of junk. On my Mac partition, I downloaded Parallels, and used it with my windows partition. Later that day, I found out that using Parallels with a Boot Camp partition can corrupt files, which is what happened. My Windows partition still works, but it's a little screwy.
So, I was wondering if I can reinstall Windows XP without unpartitioning my hard drive, and without effecting Mac OS X.
    Thanks~

Yes. It is quite straightforward - you boot into OS X, insert your Windows install disk, go to Applications (or is it Utilities?) open BootCamp - the Assistant opens. Then you ignore the partition options and just click on install Windows. BootCamp should be used for all things Windows.. ....I myself originally made the mistake of re-installing Windows one time while IN Windows (I didn't even think). I made a mess!
    Edit
My machine came with Tiger. I was sooooo impressed when I purchased Leopard that I could choose to do an erase/install of OS X without even touching the Windows side. Really nice - I still have that original Windows install untouched!

  • Can't reinstall Windows on Satellite A105-S2141

have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S2141 that I'm trying to reinstall Windows XP Home edition on after a bad virus infection. When I input the Windows CD (OEM cd, not original) and it loads all the drivers it'll BSOD with 0x50 PAge_Fault_In_Non_Paged_Area.
I have run several hardware diagnostics on the machine (memtest, hard drive tests, winstress) and nothing comes back bad. I put in a Vista disc for sh**s and giggles and it loads up and installs just fine on the machine.
I have swapped RAM, hdd, and even used an external optical drive all to no avail. I have used acronic universal restore from another clean xp install (it basically strips all hardware information out of the install and windows will reinstall it once you boot up) and the machine is just INCREDIBLY sluggish and has BSOD with the same blue screen or 0x7e.
It 0x50 BSOD on me if I use an OEM XP disc or the factory restore disc that came with the machine.
Out of ideas at this point.

  • Hard drive failed, how can I reinstall Windows 7?

The hard drive failed on my dad's laptop.  Replacing it isn't a problem, but I'm not sure how to get Windows 7 back onto it.  His laptop came with it installed already and he doesn't have any backup discs.  Will HP send discs so that I can reinstall the OS?  I'd rather not have to buy a new OS.

    Hi,
You can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00810334&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en
If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

  • I can't reinstall Windows XP

A Windows XP Pro installation on an old Vectra stopped working properly.  I decided to erase the hard disk and reinstall from an installation CD.  The PC booted to HP's splash screen.  The next thing I got was "Error loading the operating system."  I tried two different installation CD's but got the same result.  I took the CMOS area battery out and left it out for 30 minutes.  It made no difference.  I replaced the CD drive and tried again.  Again, it made no difference.  (I really don't know for sure if this drive is good.  It was working when I replaced it with a DVD drive in a different PC.)
I was advised to check the boot order.  This PC enters Setup via F2.  It enters the boot order setup via F8.  I tried F2.  I wound up with something I've never seen before: a Setup Password window that demanded a password.  I tapped "password."  I got "Wrong password, try again."  Next I tried F8.  It enumerated certain resources, all of which passed.  Then I got that Setup Password window.
    This really is mystifying.
I've installed XP on numerous PC's but never came across this.
Is there anything else I could try?

    Hi:
I don't know how the password got on there either. I wonder if removing the battery sets a default admin password.
In any event, you didn't mention what model vectra you have. I hope the link to the troubleshooting manual I have posted will work for you.
    http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/lpv06565/lpv06565.pdf
See page 31. There is a dip-switch labeled #5 and #6 that you have to flip to clear the CMOS and password. I think 5 clears both and 6 just clears the password. Anyway, please read it carefully and it tells you exactly what to do.
The only thing I can think of regarding reloading the OS is that the PC is hitting the HDD and not the CD-ROM.
Try tapping the F9 key at the HP welcome screen. That key normally presents you with a one time boot menu and from that, just select the CD-ROM drive.

  • Re: Can't reinstall windows 7 bluetooth driver

I have a new Portege T210 laptop. Bluetooth was working and then stopped, saying it wasn't enabled when it was. I am using the in built bluetooth.
I did a System restore and now when I turn on bluetooth, windows 7 home premium prompts me to install the bluetooth driver. However when it starts the progress bar it stops a little way in, and just stays there saying please wait.
I have tried several times, including rebooting machine.Thelongest I have waited is more than one hour, it just sits there saying it is installing the driver.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
I really don't want to do a system recovery.

I appreciate the input but I have already doen two system restores for other reasons. I have too much setup now to go back to square one. Windows 7 is causing me no end of problems. I can't install any anti virus sftware except Windows Security Essentials, email pop 3 software doesn't work and peer to peer software (VUZE) doesn't work either. All the programmes can't contact the server, Win 7 seems to be blocking everything except its own programmes. Email programmes I tried are Thunderbird, Eudora, Outlook and the Win 7 one.
This machine is starting to look like a lemon.
A system recover seems ridiculous, the machine is 2 weeks old and the shop where I bought it alrady did a system restore back to their OS installation point, then Norton didn't work at all and I can't uninstall it. I have always found Norton to be hopeless and would never install their software. That may be the problem I guess.

  • Can I reinstall Windows without loosing all my data?

I'm having bootup problems. I have tried bootup repair and the other choiceson the System repair screen and that hasn't found anything. I suspect it is a system rather than hardware.
I can boot as far as the Windows logon and then I just get a blank screen with a mouse cursor. Is there anyway of installing the Windows files without doing a complete clean install which would mean me loosing all my data and having to reinstall all my programs again?
    Thanks
    Tony

Usage of Toshiba recovery disk would format the HDD firstly. So yes, you will lose all the data if you would recover the notebook.
To prevent this, you could boot up the unit using an Live CD like Linux live CD or an bootable Windows based live CD (WinPE or BartPE). Then you will get access to you HDD and could backup the data.
Other method to get access to the files is the usage of external USB HDD enclosure.
You could remove the HDD from the notebook and could connect it to another computer using such external USB SATA 2.5 enclosure.

  • Can't reinstall Windows XP on S3000-601

    Hi fellows,
Toshiba Satellite 3000-601, model PS302E-019R5-FE, in original shape and Windows XP Home.
I was installing a XP update directly via internet, not downloading first (me stupid). The connection was suddenly broken off. After that laptop didn't boot, keyboard and FDD didn't function. So I intended to reinstall WXP using the original Product Recovery DVD. I've done that successfully before.
I chose advanced user, as I wanted to partition the HDD. After giving New Size for the primary partition a error message was displayed "Application error 29005, Write sector failure, result=1, drive=128, sectors 95 to 159. Contact Toshiba ..."
    After that I ran:
    1. Toshiba HD Diagnostic v.2.00b. Result: "Unknown Error Code 025h 37.
    2. GDisk /status. Information about partition structure was relevant.
    3. Gdisk to remove the partition structure. "Gdisk cannot write to sector 0 of fixed disk 1. --Int13 error:sector not found/read error (0x04).
    4. IBM Hitachi Drive Fitness Test v.4.16 as Advanced. Found Corrapted sectors. I asked to Run Sector Repair. Result: "Failure Code 0x75, Defective Device, Component Failure, TRC 75758171."
    5. MBRtool to clean track 0. Result: " Error retrieving disk geometry for disk 129, track 0 not cleaned."
    6. HDAT2 v.4.5.3 to Check and Repair Bad Sectors. Result: "Verify 14877386 -uncorrectable CRC or ECC error on read. Warnings=0, Bad sectors=3, Repaired=0, !Security=Frozen." After asking to Erase Boot Sectors received similar error message.
HDD original IC25N020ATCS04-0. BIOS, set to default, recognizes it.
    My guestions:
    1. Is boot sector really defective or is somewhere a "switch" in wrong position?
    2. Any tools to redirect MBR to another location?
    3. Are there any restrictions on replacing the HDD?
    Many thanx in advance!

    Hello
Nice to hear you still use this old notebook model.
Before I try to give you some answers I recommend you to install WXP (try to install) using standard mode just to see if this will works or not. I cannot say for sure but for me it sounds like defective HDD so maybe you should exchange it. This old IDE HDDs are not so expensive (eBay) and you can exchange it alone.
1)As far as I know there is no any kind of switch.
2)Such tool is not offered by Toshiba
3)Yes. Capacity restriction. I dont know which HDD is now inside but you cannot use some HDDs with 120 or more GB.
I will try to find out which HDDs can be used.

  • I can't reinstall Windows 7/8 via Boot Camp

    Hi all,
So, I've got an SSD + HD (in optical bay) drive combination in my Mid-2012 MBP. Originally, I had successfully installed Boot Camp onto my HD using Windows 8. Ran without problems. Then, I decided to remap the partitions on it, which messed up the boot record. So, since I didn't do any research, I decided it would be fine to just delete the Windows partition and try to start over.
I've reformatted my HD to a single partition, setup my flash drive via Boot Camp Assistant, and allowed Boot Camp Assistant to repartition my HD for Windows. However, now every time it boots into the Windows Installer, I get the following error.
'Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.'
This threw me completely off. How can I resolve this issue?
I've even tried to install Windows without the SSD plugged in. It won't give me the error then, but when the installer starts, it'll fail saying the installer is missing files or has corrupt files. This happens with both the flash drive and the DVD.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    wtcnbrwndo4u

After a bit of searching, it appears that Boot Camp can only be installed properly with a single drive in the system. When I think about it, I'm pretty sure I installed Boot Camp before I got my SSD, which makes sense.
So, I think I figured it out. If anyone can confirm, let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Can't reinstall Windows 7 with Operating System Recovery Disk x120e

    Hi,
I dabbled with Ubuntu on my Thinkpad x120e, but found that the dual-boot was unneccessary.  I (likely foolishly) followed directions online to use EasyBCD (http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/nongeeks-guide-safely-uninstall-ubuntu-dualbooting-machine/) to overwrite GRUB.
Of course, now Windows won't load!  I get an error
    Windows failed to start...
    1. Insert your Windows installation disc...
    2. Choose your language..
    3. Click "Repair your computer"
If you do not have the disc, ...
    File: \Boot\BCD
    Status: 0xc0000098
Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file does not contain a valid OS entry.
I got the Operating System Recovery Disc from lenovo (thanks Lenovo for sending it) and copied it to a USB as the computer has no DVD drive.  When I start the computer from the USB and select run from USB, it begins to load Windows, then Lenovo Rescue and Recovery 4...but then it crashes and restarts.  When I hit f8 and startup in SafeMode, it begins to load the safemode screen, but then also crashes.
Any advice on what to do??  Many thanks.

    Hello,
If you are okay with erasing the contents of the hard disk drive, you can try booting to a Windows Command Prompt, running DISKPART.EXE, selecting the hard disk drive, and issuing a "clean" command, which will erase the disk so that the operating system can be reloaded.

  • Help w/ Reinstalling Windows XP from Recovery Disk No. DVD Kit 361935-001

Re: HP Operating System DVD - Windows XP Pro. SP2 - HP or Compaq PC. No. DVD Kit 361935-001
Can I reinstall Windows XP on an HP computer using the COA received with the computer?
I read the following online and not sure what it means:
"It may not work with an OEM product key code. You would need to either sip stream SP3 or find a XP OEM version that does not come with service pack 2 installed... For some reason the OEM codes don't work with SP2 OEM disks. MSCE, MCP, A+, Network+, Security+, CEH, CCNA Just thought this might be a tid bit of information that might help those of you that need to restore windows and are using the most common OEM product key code located on the COA (Certificate of Authentication) on your computer...The only exception is if it specifically says service pack 2 on your COA."
    Thank for your help!

    Hi:
    Me either.
Your product key should work, but you shouldn't even need it when you use a recovery disk made for your PC.

  • U410 recovery partition reformatted, need help reinstalling Windows 8

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo U410 with a 32GB SSD and a 750GB HDD that are treated as one drive. The previous owner reformatted the entire drive, which erased the recovery partition. Thus, I can'tmake a recovery disc or USB stick (the recovery partition would have to be intact for that to work anyway) and can't reinstall Windows 8.
Can anyone confirm that the recovery media I'd order from Lenovo support would be able to reinstall Windows 8? I'm afraid that they would send me a disc that needs the recovery partition to work.
    Thank you.

I did, they didn't know if it would work.
