Portege M100 runs at 600MHz after BIOS/FRIMWARE upgrade

Hello,
I got a Portege M100 this week, installed Debian GNU/Linux (Sid) on it and nearly everything was fine.
Then I upgraded to the latest BIOS/FIRMWARE (from V1.10 to V1.50) and now my Pentium M 1200 MHz runs at half speed.
I can't also load cpufreq, which controls the cpu speed.
I've seen that this problem is already known, so:
Will there come a new BIOS/FIRMWARE fix for that?

Hi Gypsyman,
Thanks for answering.
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=23847&messageID=87452
Is what I meant with "Is already known".
But that doesn't help me...
I tried that option Battery->"Processing Speed", Battery->"CPU Sleep Mode",
Battery->"Cooling Method" and Configuration->"Device Config."
in all 24 different combinations, but nothing worked for me.
For updating I used the CD-image from toshiba.de,
which first updated the Firmware and then the BIOS.
If the CD-Image contains the same programs like the floppy image,
then the Firmware Upgrade should have been done with
CHGFIRMA.EXE (V2.25) EC42NOBB.bin (maybe V1.30)
the BIOS Upgrade should have been done with
CHGBIOS.EXE (V4.34) BIO0004T.COM (V1.50).
Before I upgraded I had BIOS (V1.10) and Firmware (unknown).

Hmmmm.... BIOS upgrade interruption has screwed up BIOS and thats the reason why your notebook doesn't start properly. BIOS is damaged now.
In such case you need professional help by authorized Toshiba service provider.
On this forum you can find many threads about similar problems. Some people have tried to fix this alone and if you are interested to read how one other forum user has fixed it check please this thread.

  • GS70 boot issue after BIOS 10C upgrade

Hello all, I have the GS 70 Stealth Pro (Crimson Red) with 970m 6GB. I recently upgraded to the newly released BIOS on the support page and have now run into an issue. Performance and operation of the laptop is fine, however when turning the laptop on, it'll turn on for a second then shut off. Pressing the power button again will boot the laptop with no issues. Since I cant seem to find the 10B bios which I didnt experience this issue with, is there a workaround or greater issue that would require a return?

    Quote from: talonhawk01 on 06-January-15, 22:59:28
They didnt release an updated EC firmware with that BIOS, maybe thats the issue here as Im seeing its the 1504 version that was attached to previous BIOS
can i have exact gs70 model version you got? is it an GS70 2PE or ?

  • DB02 running very slowly after SQL 2005 Upgrade!

    Hi All
I have reciently upgraded our DEV ECC6 system to SQL 2005 and everything seemed ok - no problems really! However when we run DB02, to retrieve DB information it is taking about 4 to 5 mins to appear. This is obviously not good!
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so is there something that needs to be done?
    Thanks

    Hi Phil,
Have you ensure that all the standard background job as per note 16083?

  • ITunes still pauzes randomly running Leopard, even after 7.5 upgrade.

    Hi,
My iTunes randomly pauzes songs. It mostly playes for about 30 seconds and then it pauzes.
I've tried to reinstall, remove plug-ins and scripts, but still the pausing remains.
Anybody experiencing the same thing, or did this go away with 7.5 (I know people had this problem with 7.4 after Leopard upgrade).
    Please advise.

Aparently I was too hasty with my conclusion:
iTunes still pauses 'randomly'. Although I think I found when it goes wrong. Everytime I play a song after a few seconds I can here the processor working harder, at this time iTunes or Leopard is changing the iTunes database files in the iTunes folder. When it is done 'updating' them iTunes pauses the song. I don't see how we can fix this one...

First go to the RIM web site and look to see if they have an uninstaller for the device you had.  Some times a reinstall of the application and then running the uninstaller is required for complete removal.
If no uninstaller is available, then you will have to use Spotlight to find all items with 'Blackberry' and 'Rim' in the titles.  I would also download EasyFind and use that to locate such files.  Often it will locate items that Spotlight misses.
    Ciao.

  • Portege R700 -- disabling Intel AMT in BIOS causes fan to run constantly

I recently purchased a Portege R700-1321, which shipped with BIOS 1.40.  I'm running Windows 7 Pro x64.  I have attempted to disable Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) on this machine by going into the ME BIOS (via ctrl-P at bootup), setting an admin password, and then disabling ME completely.  However, when I reboot after disabling ME, the fan starts to run at high speed and runs continually so long as the machine is powered on.  Re-enabling ME in the BIOS and rebooting again causes the fan to behave normally.
I believe this is a BIOS rather than Windows problem because upon booting the machine, the fan steps up from low to high speed over the course of about a second before the Windows startup screen appears.  Windows appears to be fine despite the continually running fan, so AFAIK this is not the freezing-up issue that has been reported for R700s, despite the similar involvement of the fan.
Is anyone else seeing a similar issue?

I noticed that when battery is charging the miniPCI temperature spikes to 50 degrees. Unplugging the AC or reaching the charging threshold causes sudden drop in the temperature. The interesting thing is that the minipci sensor is near the southbridge (near the ram) and the battery sensor itself stays stable at 30 degrees.

  • HP p6230a runs slow after bios update - Getting error BIODHD-8 on Diagnostic Tools

After bios update my desktop runs so painfully slow it is unworkable.  Disk drive seems to be constantly hammered by processes that don't appear on task manager.  Running 64 bit windows 7 (sp1).  Running the diagnostic tools prior to boot up comes up with error code BIOHD-8 - A SMART test failed on the drive - please contact HP Support.  Ideally would like to get previous version of bios as machine was running well before update.

I will ask my HP Employee Expert colleagues about this internally. It will take a while for them to respond.
the BIODHD-8 error code means your harddrive is failing and must be replaced.
Back up everything that you possibly can before it fails and no longer boots up into Windows .

  • Help Please - X200 will not boot after Bios Upgrade - keeps asking for power on password

    Hi there,
I am new to this forum and please let me say a big Thank You for your help in advance.
I am using a lenovo thinkpad x200 running windows vista with service pack 1.
The laptop has always been running fine and has never given me any issues. Unfortunately, all this came to an end yesterday when I ran the system assistant which did a round of updates and it prompted me to reflash my bios.
I did what was instructed and closed all open applications and after the laptop restarted, there was a noise from the harddisk (the sound was basically like what happens if the harddisk suddenly loses power). Then, all i got was a black screen, no harddisk acitvity with only the power cable LED and another LED (with the shape of a N tiled at 20 degrees) on.
I searched the forum and did what was suggested in this entry: http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Blank-screen-after-Bios-Upgrade-on-X200/ta-p/29...
This is what I did so far"
I turned off the power, took out the backup battery and waited for about 30 minutes (repeated this step several times, also removing the harddisk) but to no avail.
I removed the RAM and tried booting and there was that characteristic beeping sound.
I replaced the RAM, redid the CMOS clearing, and now there is the Lenovo startup screen. However, there would be an error code 0271 (no date time) and 0251 (something about default configuration). Then, these disappear and all I am left with is the Bios Power On password prompt. Somehow no matter what I type nothing can be input into the field (and I did not create any password as far as I can remember).
I redid the clearing for the power on password by removing the backup battery as suggested at the bottom of this page http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=migr-59377   but it is no use. Each time I restart, even if I press the blue Think Vantage button or F1 or F11, I still get the same 0271 and 0251 error messages and am left with the power on password prompt.
I am really desperate as I really like my lenovo x200 and there is important data on the laptop. I would appreciate any suggestions on how I can solve this. Its amazing how a simple update can turn into such a disaster. Now i know i should never upgrade or update my Bios (or at least proceed with extreme caution).
Anyone can provide some help to get my laptop workin again?
    Thank you very much,
    Mark

  • Toshiba Satellite p75-A7200 stuck on toshiba logo after bios change

My Toshiba Satellite p75-A7200 is stuck on toshiba logo after bios change.
entered bios fine changes from UEFI to CSM boot and now i cannot enter bios or boot past toshiba logo.
Ive tried F2 tapping and holding while powering up the laptop(tried every Fkey,DEL,ESC, with and without FN key)
    cannot re-enter bios.
Also i tried to run the bios update cd created multiple  1.50 1.40 even 1.00, it doesnt seem to read any media.
i tried holding C, FN+C and f and just about every key on the keyboard to get something to work. i had dvd as top of boot priority for a while now so i shouldnt have to try f12 or holding C before boot but i tried . it doesnt seem to read any media
i tried windows 8 install cd, Ubuntu, centos, nothing goes past toshiba logo and no errors, i dont get the non bootable device error so its seems to not be reading the dvd. (dvd does spin and make read noises) im trying to find my usb floppy drive to try a floppy version but it acts like its not reading any media.
I also pulled the HDD and all usb devices to make the dvd the only media available and with the HDD out it spins then toshiba logo then black screen with solid white  horizontal curser on top left of screen.(only happens when hdd out)
is there some type of key combination that will force a bios update or a crisis recovery mode for bios.
I also Pulled the battery for 2 solid days(battery, cmos battery, and power supply and held power button for about 10 mins while watching tx to make sure the thing was drained before the 2 day sit with no power at all.
this happened the second i changed from UEFI to CSM boot so its not a motherboard problem or anything like that because all was well before this setting change.
I already pulled the HDD and backed it up to another drive and swapped it to elimiate that.
any ideas on a secret key combo to force a bios read from dvd or usb or anythng.
or another combo that im just missing to enter bios after CSM boot.
    UPDATE
to do a crisis recovery on this laptop
1 get a usb stick and format it in fat or fat32
2 download "7zip" and install it if you dont have it.
3 download bios from toshiba website.
4 run the installer for bios but dont choose and option just close it we just want to extract the files to the location normally  c:\splnvxxx where xxx is the version number like 150
5 goto the installed locaion "c:\splnv150" or whatever number.
    6. find file os2014273a_150 or something similar. it will be an application, it will end in version number _150, and it will also have a disc image file of the same name. but we want the app.
    7. right click on it and you should have an option 7zip then extract
once extracted there is a folder now archesxxxxxx_bios_v150_win
8 copy the bios file located in archesxxxxxblahblah/X64/BIOS.fd , BIOS.fd is the bios and just copy that to a BLANK usb thumb drive that was formatted with fat or fat32.
    9. put usb into your satellite and unplug the power from it.
10 holding FN + ESC key together plug the power back in and press power button.
    11. release keys FN and ESC if all is right it will have the power button and led on from blink abut every 1 second while it searches for the bios. once its done it will reboot and you should be good to go.
if it keeps cycling with the power button then the bios is named wrong or something is not right with the usb. try reformatting it again and make sure that the bios file is the ONLY thing on the drive.

Ok a little research and digging into the bios exe downloaded from toshiba shows this has INSYDE BIOS witch should have a recovery process wich i prepared a usb stick with just the bios.fd on it found some post around toshiba forums with different models using win +B or Fn + F but neither of these worked for me to force bios update
anyone with this model know the key combo to force recovery

  • Portege M100 - Doesn't go in stand by

I have a Portege M100. For no apparent reason it no longer goes into standby mode automatically if left on battery power. I have checked power saver settings and these all appear to be ok eg standby after 5 mins etc.
    Any ideas?

    hi RogerGrand,
i assume you're using xp as operating system...
pls compare the settings in the "toshiba power saver" and the "energy options" of the os.
    - on the first index tab on the bottom you should see anything like "stand-by"
    - and on top "energy scheme" you should see the "power saver" ...
if there is something mixed up the system dont know which action should take place...
    compare and check this settings!
and check if there is any precess in background doing a job and prevents from hibernation/standby.

  • Lenovo Helix i7 CPU cpu clock down after Bios 1.14

    Hi all.
I have about 25 Lenovo Helix, and I must admit that I'm a little angry - I have found out that after bios 1.14, then run the only maximum 2.5 GHz, whereas before it ran 3.0GHz - not that I have purchased. It's an easy solution to the heat, just to clock the CPU down.
Is there anyone who can help me, what can I do? Some have bios 1.10 to lie, it works with the real speed. You can easily feel the difference.
    Thank you

Use a program like coretemp and after executing the program hit F4 or from the menus select logging. Run some processor intensive applications, either software (AutoCAD, hd video, etc.) or benchmark such as (IBT, Ortho, etc.) then review or post the csv here.
The multiplier is a ratio of the cpu clock rate and front side bus. For instance, with the Helix the fsb is just under/around 100mhz. The clock will either throttle down to 8x and speed up to 32x, resulting in cpu speeds between 800mhz to 3.2Ghz, respectively.

  • Portege M100 - How to replace the RTC battery?

Hello, the RTC battery of my Portege M100 is flat. I manage to order one from the internet but I can't locate it. I dismantle almost every part of the computer, but if someone could just guide me and give the procedure du replace it, it would be great. Thanks in advance!!

    Hi friend,
its easy to replace the RTC battery on your machine. I did it already and I had no problems during the replacement, I mean it was a little bit tricky to find the batt. but I will give everything from my experience. ;)
Look first at the wireless lan card, theres a slot an under the slot is the minipci-wlan-card located. Near the wireless lan card slot is some little cover, this cover must be removed (gently). The RTC battery is located in some white insulator, but before peeling that little battery out, you must disconnect the battery from the mainboard. After disconnecting it, just lift the RTC up and place the new one there.
Thats all, unfortunately I cannot serve you with some pics, so you will have to imagine it by yourself. ;)
    Good luck and greets
P.s.: If you feel uncomfortable in replacing the batt, then ask some techie to help you.
