Portege M300 - unable to hibernate or standy-by.

Hi,
I have very strange problem with my 2,5 years old Portege M300. For some time now I cannot hibernate or put it in stand-by mode. Everything goes as it should, "going to stand by" windows appears and computers dies, hdd led blinks every 10 seconds and nothing happens even if wait for hours.
It is the same with hibernation. It also sometimes happends that computer dies in similar way during regular job.
It almost looks like the hdd stopped working. I have done some basic hdd testing and it looks like everything is ok.
Do you have any ideas what could be the reason?
Regards
Blazej

Hi
When did you reinstall the OS?
Possibly its only a OS issue I mean its possible that your OS is muddled up and therefore some functions dont work as it should
At the other hand a hardware issue (i.e. HDD, memory) could be also possible.
But first of all if would be interesting to know if the notebook would functions after recovering.
Bye

  • HDD recovery from a partition on Portege M300

    Hello
I reinstalled my win xp from another xp cd on a portege notebook m300 and did not burn an hdd recovery of the with the windows that thoshiba provided the computer with, its commen today that you burn your own backup instead of they sending you an original win xp cd. I want a backup cd/recovery cd now and I see that they partioned(or what its called) a seperate 2,5GB hd with the name "HDDRECOVERY".
This resulted that my windows got installed on E: cause it was a 2,5GB partioned HDspace that windows called C: and I could only pick E: to install win xp to and I didnt want to erase the 2,5gb partioned space. I toughed that I somehow could access this 2,5gb HD file but it dosent show in "my conputer" only in the disk managment tools windows have. You cant do anything in this manegmant tool to get it to show in "my computer". I would like to access this space and burn this HDDRecoveryfile so I can get my propriate windows that followed when I bought the computer since the win xp serial that is supplied under this cumputer did not work with my new win xp cd.
ps. How do you install windows on C: if the windows install program thinks C: is the 2,5gb partioned file? I dont want to delete it.

    Hello Andre
The situation with Portege M300 is a little bit complicated but I will try to explain you. Portege M300 (I think just in Germany) is delivered without Recovery DVD and also without Tools & Utilities CD. Both of them can be created by user but only if unit is factory preinstalled. The factory preinstalled unit with factory image contains one tool called Recovery Disc Creator. Using this tool you can create both medias. Without this tool there is no way to make it.
Unfortunately this tool you can not find on Toshiba download page. Because of that you can keep this partition on the HDD but it has no sense at all. You have your own preinstalled OS without Recovery Disc Creator.
    There are two solutions:
    1. You can format whole HDD, create own partitions and install own OS using all stuff you can find on Toshiba download page.
    2. Contact please authorized service partner in your country. They can try to order original recovery DVD for you. If this recovery DVD is not available the service partner can make factory settings again but with costs.
Thats all I know about Portege M300 and preinstalled software. If you have more questions please write again.
    Good luck!

  • Need Advanced Port Replicator III drivers to use it with my Portege M300

    Hi,
I have a Portege M300 with an Advanced Port Replicator III. I've had to reinstall the operating system and now can't find any drivers for the port replicator.
Can anyone help me out? I'm running Win XP
    thanks

    Hi
I assume you need drivers for the XP OS. Am I right???
On the Toshiba driver page you will find all necessary drivers and utilities for Portg M300.
There you will find also the installation instruction document. This document shows the right installation order.
You should simply download all drivers and follow the installation order. Thats all

  • [SOLVED] Unable to hibernate (and garbles the screen when it fails)

Hello,  I'm unable to hibernate (but I can suspend fine).
    When I run
    sudo systemctl hibernate
it will run the command, turn off the screen and come back all garbled (like static from a tv), with the computer still on but the processes stopped.
I followed all the instructions on the hibernation wiki.
I rebuilt grub adding the swap partition and added the resume hook to mkinitcpio.
My swap partition is 23.4GB and my ram is 16gb, so that shouldn't be an issue.
I've had a look at my xorg logs, run systemctl --all | grep errors with nothing, and nothing came up from the system journal ( I forgot the command as it was deleted from my bash history).
What other logs can I provide to help determine the error?
    Thanks
    edit:
It's been solved now, I believe an update to the kernel has done the trick. I can suspend to disk fine now.
For those googling, I'm running 3.11.6-1-ARCH

    Still nothing unfortunately.
I masked alsa90 under /etc/pm/sleep.d to be -x. That was the only file out of the pm directories. (I only have it for KDE too).
I've also double checked my grub config to add resume, and mkinitcpio which has the resume hook.

  • Cannot install Common-modules on Portege M300

    Hello everybody,
I'm Italian and I had some problems with a Portege M300. After Windows XP crash I made a new installation of XP but, of course, I lost every driver. I tried to install them but I can't do it 'cause there's not the Toshiba common modules installed.
I downloaded it but when I try to click on the setup icon nothing happens, and when I try to install other drivers same message appear (of missing common modules).
How can I solve this problem?
    Thanks a lot

And you try to install THIS version?

  • Re: Portege M300: What Wifi card is installed

Hello I have reloaded my Portege M300 and I have been to the drivers page for the m300.
But it gives you an ateros... of however you spell it driver.....
But I'm sure it was an intel before I reloded it.....
Pls look at the download page and it says the Atheros thingy, yes when you click on it it goes to Tosh DE, and there is a choice of Intel.... but what one do i use.
And please when you answer tell me how you just know?
Do I need the Lan driver and the managment sofware or just the driver.
    All the best
    Mike

Thank you, it was the intel 2200bg.... I cant get it to connect to the wireless .....
My other units are ok. They are set to WPA.
I could not see this in the driver so I set it to WEP and my other machine they reconnected and were fine.
Now at least the M300 connects to my netgear router... but it only has packets sent and not recived.....
There is no extra security on my router but it won't give it an ip address.
Are there any settings on this Intel 2200bg I am missing?
All says ok in device man...

  • Portege M300 BIOS password removal

    Dear,
We from UsedPC a company in Holland thats sell second handed Notebooks en Computers just bought 4 of Toshiba Portege M300
We only have one problem on all of the machines, They are locked with an start up password ( bios password ) so we cant install them
Only we need the responses codes that we dont know.
Can somebody help us out please?
    Greets,
    UsedPC

BIOS password ist most sensible security feature and you cannot expect help in public forum where everyone should find out how it works.
Then every stolen Portege M300 can be unlocked.
What I can say is that unlocking method is pretty complicated and just authorized service can help you with this. Even they don't have these codes. Just Toshiba can send them codes following specific procedure.
So forget it. Go to service, show evidence that notebooks are not stolen and they will help you with this. Of course it will not be for free.

  • Portege M400 - unable to use full 4Gb RAM

I've installed two KTT667D2/2G modules on my laptop (Portege M400-103, part. no. PPM40E-012018G3) - making total 4Gb. However, both original Windows XP Tablet and Ubuntu 9.04 are unable to see all the 4Gb - they see 3.2Gb only.
The BIOS shows the amount correctly - 4096 Mb.
I've also tried to fix the issue by updating BIOS to the last version (3.80, 30/05/08), but both OS's (Windows and Ubuntu) still see 3.2Gb only.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

But that's ridiculous! Why the specs tell me [maximum expandability : 4,096 MB |http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=EU&BV_UseBVCook ie=yes&PRODUCT_ID=114027] if the installed CPU doesn't support 64 bit? I see "4096 Mb", I go and buy these 4Gb and I can't use it all. So I wasted my money just because they didn't bother to state 3.2Gb instead of 4Gb (being aware of the 32 bit CPU limitation) !

  • Systemd & systemd-sysvinit : 207-5 208-1 | unable to hibernate

    Hi !
After the update of systemd and systemd-sysvinit from v. 207-5 to v. 208-1, I'm experiencing an issue with xfce4-power-manager which cannot detect the ability of the computer to hibernate and so it desactivates the option (despite pm-hibernate works very well).
The only solution I've found is to downgrade these two packages, and everything runs smooth.
Is somebody experiencing the same issue and is there an obvious workaround I missed ?
    SilverWyrda

    Hi !
@venam : Yes, it seems to be a linked issue...
@Jristz : I've the option to hibernate too only in the "Buttons" menu on the XFCE panel. However, the option is grayed out under the xfce4-power-manager menu, which also control for me the hibernate shortcut... I use polkit-gnome and I've tried lxpolkit but it was a bad experiment insofar as I've not been able to mount some partitions from thunar anymore so... (and typing the password to hibernate  . . . ).
Thanks to you for your answers .

  • Unable to Hibernate my U410

    Hi!
I've tried many ways, and I can't get the hibernate option out of my U410
    Scenario:
    1) I have installed a fresh Windows 7 Professional OS due to school requirement of the OS and changed a new MSATA SSD TO 128GB as I hope to get more spaces for my storage, and after installation I realized that the hibernate button(MOST IMPORTANT FUNCTION) is missing!
2)I've tried many ways to get it up(powercfg, create hibernation partition(8192mb)) but it is still not appearing.
    3) I've seen many discussed that  I can go to the BIOS setting to enable the function, but I can't seem to find the option to do so!
So Hoping someone could help me over here!!

  • Unable to hibernate to disk

I installed and confugured Uswsusp according to the steps given at
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Suspend_to_Disk
When I fire the hibernate command ...it seems that it takes the memory dump on to the swap partition /dev/sda7.
But when I tried to resume it failed, the message displayed on the screen were like:
    Invalid resume device swap:/dev/sda7
kinit: No resume Image , trying normal boot
And the normal boot is successful
Then I changed the the resume option in menu.lst to resume=/dev/sda7 instead of resume=swap:/dev/sda7
Now the messages while booting were
kinit: No resume Image , trying normal boot  .
And the normal boot is successful.
    My etc/suspend.conf is
    # major 10, minor 231.
    snapshot device = /dev/snapshot
    # Set this to whatever your suspend partition is.
    # You will not need to provide a resume parameter to your
    # kernel when using uswsusp, as this file will be used.
    # This neccesitates using a initrd, though!
    resume device =/dev/sda7
    compress = y
    #image size = 350000000
    #suspend loglevel = 2
    #compute checksum = y
    #early writeout = y
    # You can only change these if you modified Makefile.diff
    # and have the requirements installed.
    #splash = y
    #encrypt = n
    Can smbdy please help ?

What command are you using to hibernate...  The uswsusp command is s2disk which needs to be executed as root.  IF you're using KDE and Gnome to hibernate, and you just choose an option from the menu, it is possible that some other hibernate command is executed that way, which would produce the symptoms you describe.

  • Unable to Hibernate my T60

    Hi There,
Whenever I try to hibernate my T60, it goes into hibernation for a few seconds and comes out of it in a flash. I get an error message "Insufficient System Resources" in the system tray.
I was going through this post of "icantux" and I must say it makes perfect sense. However, in my case, I have 30GB of hard disk space in my primary partition out of which 13GB seems to be free.
    My question is:
    1. Is this space not enough yet?
    2. Is there something else to this hibernation other than the disk space that counts?
My IT admin is clueless about what is causing this problem. With the same ghost image installed in other T60s, the hibernation works great. This leads me to believe that a software/driver conflict can't be a root cause for this.
I'll be glad if someone could help me out here. This is a wonderful community and there is enough reasons to spend a whole day on it learning some interesting things.
    Thanks,
    Venkstein

    Hi Venkstein,
    Welcome to the Lenovo forum
This is just a guess, but have you added RAM to your system? If so, perhaps the hibernation file is too small to hold the memory image. You might try disabling then re-enabling hibernation (through Fn-F3 / PowerManager or the Windows CP) to delete, then re-create the hibernation file.
    Good luck!
