Portege M400 - High CPU temperature

Hi,
I'm having a problem with CPU temperature in my M400 (Vista OS). When I power up computer, initial temperature is around 35C, but after about 15 minutes of work it jumps to 60C and stays there.
Last night reached 80C and that really concerned me. I tried anything from upgrading BIOS (v3.6) to changing power options in Vista.
I don't know if this is actually funny, but a few days ago I placed a pack of chocolate next to cooler (about 10 centimeters away) and after 5 minutes I noticed it started to melt. :(
Please help! Any suggestion is welcome!

I haven't experienced any unusual shut downs so far. The only problem was keyboard buttons overheating. After using computer in tablet mode keyboard would become pretty hot.
However, as you suggested, I used vacuum cleaner on my computer and the situation is quite better now. Idle temperature is 44C-47C, while during high performance it goes up to 70C. The good part is that when I leave the computer idle for few minutes it automatically drops down to default 44C-47C (not like before).
Now, I can't be absolutely sure how I managed to do this, but it definitely has something to do with Toshiba Power Saver, which is only like "add-on" to Vista's power management. There is an option that sets CPU to Cooling optimized mode. The down side of this story is that my cooler is really noisy now but I don't care much! :)

Can high cpu temperature melt processor?

Hallo, mayby stupid question, but i was just wondering, if high temperature inside my macbook air (2012 i5) can melt my processor or something like that...
I am talking about 85 C continuosly1 or max 2 hours per day at cpu (oc course not every day) :/ i dont want to demage my mac...

High enough temperatures can melt anything, but your mackbook air is designed to operate continuously, with fans to manage CPU temp. As long as you are in an environment where the air temperature is within standard (10 to 35C), your macbook is fine.

Combo: High CPU temperature

Hi,
My PC CPU temperature is 43C when idle. But it rises up to 60C when under load.
The system temperature ranges from 35 to 38 depending on system load.
I have double checked CPU fan, it is perfectly attached.
CPU clock is 3.0 GB 1MB, 512 DDR1 @ 400 MHz
I am running the system on the default clocks (No overclocking).
3 Fans for system cooling.
Is this normal temperature?

High CPU temperature on Tecra M5

I dont know if it's normal, but my CPU has a normal temperature of 77C, and when the CPU increases to 50%, the temperature increases to 100C.
Is this normal?
My fan is always making to much noise...

this hardware monitoring tools are not giving the real temp out. I tried Hardware doctor and it says that my Qosmio is running about 120 (!!) so I dont think its supposed to be the
real temperature of my CPU!
If your FAN is running constantly, maybe your fan and cooling system is clobbed with dust. Maybe cleaning the whole thing would be useful. On the other side, try to adjust the setting in the "toshiba power saver" and try to find settings which fit for you (performance/silence) because you have a powerful system and then its normal that your fan is running high.
He had to cool a CPU, a VGA and a little bit of heat out of the case.

High CPU temperatures with Yosemite

Hi,
Today I made a clean install of Yosemite on my Macbook Pro. I saw a big difference of the cpu and other components temperature than Mavericks:
(the weather is not changed from yesterday)
Yosemite:
- Safari with only an open tab
cpu: 58°-67°
Mavericks:
- Safari with three open tabs (Facebook, Gmail, Youtube)
- Illustrator cs3 with an open file (big size an some vectors)
- iTunes
48°-52°
Also the battery lost 50 minutes of autonomy than the same situation with Mavericks
Yosemite uses too much cpu (gpu) resources or is a poorly optimised s.o.
Probably Istat Pro is still not too compatible wit the new os x....I hope in some fix or update that improves the situation (for Yosemite...)
Someone has encountered the same problem?

Open Activity Monitor and see what's running in the background under All Processes.
Whatever is using most of your CPU's resources is not needed, click on quit process and see if that helps keep your CPU run cooler.
Also, check your login items and see what's loading when you start your MB Pro. Uncheck those items if not needed and restart your computer.
I have a Late 2011 MB Pro that has an idle temp of 47 - 50 C.
Another possible solution, if you're techically competent, open the back of your MB Pro and blow off gently the inside of your MB Pro to get rid of any dust or particles inside your notebook.

High CPU temperature

Please is normal that a MBP 15'' 2.8GHz while encoding video of normal quality reaches 95 DEgrees Celsius and use of 125% of CPU, fans were going at 6200 rpm

but anyway I got a little help by searching this forum to find out how "to find" out why my mac is overheating.
The reason was the adobe distiller, the invisibly was running all the time. I'm using a lot adobe pdf printing in file - and there was a printing job still hanging on, and with some problems. Just in case anybody will encouter the same problem:
check the print&faxes->printing->print queue...
My temp went no back to 50% and activity to 5% and the fans are off so I can enjoy it again!

Mid-2009 macbook pro high cpu temp ( 100C) after every cold boot

Hi everyone,
Every time I cold-boot my MBP, the CPU temperature sky rockets to 100C within 3 minutes at idle with the fans barely kicking in until that point. The activity monitor shows 97% idle with no major processes running and this issue is reproducible every time I turn on the computer. However, if I immediately reboot the computer (warm boot), the computer runs normally (~70C CPU temp, fans @ 2000 rpm). If I do a SMC reset, the computer boots normally for the next immediate single cold boot but symptoms return thereafter. The only way to prevent the high CPU temperatures is to do a SMC reset before ever cold boot.
I'm wondering if someone else has had these symptoms with their laptop and how they fixed it. The system is still under apple care and the symptoms are reproducible but I'd rather not bring it in as this is my daily-use machine.

K7N2G CPU temperature - help!

I just built a new system for a friend and after putting it together and starting it up - xp was nicely loading then all of a sudden about 1 minute from the time it was switched on - the whole pc just switches off. Another time I went into the BIOS to configure and while I was changing values in there - it again switch off like about 1 minute of me going into the BIOS.
I can't figure whats wrong - the power supply I first blamed - but its a 350 Watt model and there is only 1 PCI card - two ROM drives and a HD - so no power issues. Then I suspected that it might be some MSI security feature kicking in - the most likely something shutting down the PC because of a high CPU temperature. When I was in the BIOS I noticed that the CPU temp was around 61-63 degrees.
I built my own system (KT4 Ultra FISR MB) about 2 months ago and that CPU same as my friends (XP 2400+) just shows 36 degrees - and my system is fine. I have a Zalman cooler and about 4 case fans - and my system in generally quite cool.
My friends HSF is a brand called Titan which has a copper based bottom plate.
Does anyone else suspect the HSF? Or is there something else on the MB I dont know about or any other ideas?

a q-tec 550w is barely enought for me.
do you have any temp monitor programs running that shutsdown the computer when the cpu gets to hot?
did you use heatsink paste? and how much?
you know bios 3.3 shows to much and bios 3.4 shows to little cpu temp.
xp2400+ is rated for a max operating temperature of 85 celsius
make a signature like mine.

now it is centrino duo T5600 1,83ghz.
I think the best is T7600 is it possible?

Well, usually the CPU upgrade is not very easy
Its not possible to say if you notebook would run stable or properly after CPU replacement.
Fact is that BIOS is not tested and not configured for other CPUs and this can cause some compatibility issues which would affect the notebook functionality!
Main issue might be the higher heat dissipation caused by stronger CPU this would lead to an higher temperature and to overheating
So be careful and in my opinion the CPU upgrade is not worth since you would not notice a performance boost.

Portege M400 - Temperature?

I have a Portege M400 running XP SP2, and during normal use the temperature usually lies between 55 and 65 degrees celcius. At load the temperature is consistently above 60 degrees, between 60 and 75 degrees celsius.
I wondered if this is a normal temperature range - or perhaps I have been so unlucky as to have gotten a defective CPU.

I am pretty sure you know that CPU temperature depends on CPU usage and also of notebook position (on the desk or on the knees) and how the unit can be cooled down.
In my opinion there is no reason to be worried. Now while typing this message and listening online radio (without much activity) CPU temperature is 63 degrees Celsius.
Anyway I recommend you to update BIOS on your unit. I dont know if you have saw info about new BIOS update for M400 under http://support.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB6A01KJ0000R01.htm

Toshiba Portege M400 CPU Upgrade

This isn't really a troubleshooting question, but a cpu question, there is no forum for direct cpu questions.
I am the proud owner of a Portege M400 Convertible
The Specs
4gb RAM
Intel C2D T-7200
The standard gizmos - wifi - ethernet, yada yada
750gb SSHD Seagate Momentus XT
My question is, can i take the CPU beyong T7600, to the P-Series mobile chips? I was reading the only difference was the FSB, so can i take the comp beyond 2.33 using the P-Series? Now before i get flamed for asking about this, i do have experience dismantling and repairing / upgrading laptops and convertibles. I also read the P-Series use less power, which is the real reason i want to upgrade to it if i can, i already get approx 7.5 hours out of the dual system, and would like to extend that if i can.

No, the T7200 is socket M, and the P-series are socket P. The best CPU that will work in your system is the T7600. Besides, the 945GM chipset in your system can handle a max of 667Mhz FSB for the CPU. Anything higher and the computer would not turn on(but there are no socket M CPU's with higher than 667Mhz FSB anyway).

I'm using macbook pro retina 13inch 2013 late version.
my macbook has NO external graphic card, just iris graphic.
when i was playing diablo3 or watching movie by using bypass ip address, my cpu temperature was maintained 90~100 celcius degrees.
And at the same time, my cooling fan was maintained 5800~6000 rpm.
There are two questions.
One, is my macbook temperature too high or normal level ?
Two, i know that 6200rpm is maximum speed of cooling fan. Why did fan run 5800~6000rpm, not maximum?

CPU temperature is too high in Solaris 10 sun fire v890 machine

I just installed Solaris 10 on a sun fire v890 machine. I used the prtdiag -v command to check the system.
However, It appears to me that the CPU temperatures is higher than the temperature range specified in the technical specification. The server is a standalone node that does not connect to the network or process anything.
Is it a problem? Thank you.

Portege Z930 - "System" process: high CPU usage when on battery

I've got a Portg Z930.
A process called "System" appears on the task manager when I unplug the PC from the AC.
I'd like to know why is it using high CPU (from 9% to 18%) and keeping my temps above 70C.
It's very annoying, not only because of the temperature that hits the PC itself, but also because of the battery life, that can't go above 1 hour and 30 min because of this process.
It's not a virus, already CHECKED, don't ask.
Also, I don't know when it started or why, so please don't ask.

I dont know exactly what this system process does but usually the Windows system uses different power plans / modes while the notebook is connected to AC adaptor and while running on battery power.
So possibly the power plant for battery mode is configured differently.
I would recommend checking the power plant which is used while the AC adaptor is connected and compare the settings with the power plant used in battery mode.

Portege M400 - CPU cooling issue

One year ago, when I had been using my Portege M400 for 2 years, it started deadlocking occasionally. Sometimes [I couldn't even start it up|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjNa8-c2Aro]. Using cut and try method I located the problem. The metal spring which clasps the heatsink to CPU was doing it with not enough strength:

The problem has been solvable by benting the clutches so the spring starts apply more force clasping the heatsink to CPU:

Applying a new layer of thermal grease has been helpful as well:

However, the solution works for several weeks only. And then (particularly if it is hot outside) the story starts all over again.

Its really great that you are interested in your Portege M400 and you can disassmble it. Its really not easy and so this can only be done from people with a lot of experience.
Anyway, as you know here its user forum only. That means you can talk with normal people like you and me. So I would recommend contacting an authorized service provider in your country. Maybe the guys know about this problem or something else or you need a special thermal grease because not all thermal greases compatible to all cooling assemblies.
By the way: On the Toshiba website you can find a list of all service providers.
