Portege M400 recovery dvd - OS installation

I'm very disappointed with toshiba recovery dvd. It install all toshiba tools, utilities without any possibility of choice. Does exist any way to install OS without the Toshiba stuff? Or is some kind of utility to "extract" just OS from recovery dvd?

Nope. You should be able to build your own install media as long as the necessary files are in your windows folder. Look for a folder named i386. Find it and you are in the game. There might be others. Use Google to get more details. Even Microsoft has info on its pages. I did it myself on a m200 but I cannot remember all the steps. Just one thing: Since the tablet pc edition is nothing but your familiar xp pro plus tablet pc specific files, don't forget the folder \cmpnents\tabletpc\.
As soon as you have collected everything, you can do either a pxe net install (as i did using i386/winnt.exe -2 to start Windows installation) or burn your own install cd (keyword: BartPE).
Sorry, for not being more specific, but a clean install is possible.

  • Portege M400 Tablet Product Recovery DVD-ROM

Where can I get a set of Product Recovery DVD-ROM discs for my Portege M400 Tablet please?

    Hi
Usually you can order the recovery disk using this page:
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
But this page provides recovery disk only for the newer notebook series.
Im not quite sure if you will be able to order the recovery disk because of the age of M400
Anyway, the other possibility would be the ASP. You can get in contact with your authorized service partner and could ask for such disk
In worst case you will need to use an own Windows disk and the Toshiba drivers are downloadable from driver page.

  • Portege R700 - original recovery image re-installation failed

    Hello
I have a Toshiba Portege R700 for years.
As i already have some trouble, i did a reinstallation few years ago, from recovery partition. Directly.
But, few days ago, i had some issues with my portege.
HDD seems to be broken as it make some noise and was really, really, really, ..., really slow.
So, after making some data backup during hours and hours (remember, it was really, ..., really slow), i lauch a complete re-installation from "recovery partition". It seems to be good, but .. never finished the process, with same HDD noise, and again slow HDD I/O.
OK, my own diadnostic: change HDD.
This done, and using the Toshiba recovery DVD just bought (yes impossible to find the earlied burn DVD), i have ... the same issue. The recovery process does not end even if 'im waiting for days ...
And i have the same HDD noise. With the new one!!
So having a MSDN licence, i installed a Win7 Pro 32bits, but not the Toshiba one.
And it's running for days without any issue!
But i have to reinstall all drivers, and software delivered by Toshiba.
Obviouly i will prefer to find what is the exact issue with this Portege, and reinstall the Toshiba version of Windows 7 Pro.
So, if someonre read the story until, the question is: ANY IDEA?
How to make a HW diagnostic? How to identify the exact problem?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Dr Lamp.
    Remember that i
    - did a successfull recovery from recovery partition few years ago
    - tried 2 recovery recently
try 1, from recovery with initial HDD.
I'm not REALLY sure, but i think that the recovery failled during step "recovery image installation from copied data step 50/52"
    I'm not sure.
As it take hours during this step, if it go to the next step or not, as i let it run for hours and hours (yes, i'm persistent)
try 2, from original Toshiba DVD i ordered (35)
I'm sure it fail during an additionnal step you forgot.
Because after "installed OS will be prepared for usage", which configure a lot of things using numerous reboot, there is the final step which is "first launch of win7"
Note that not the exact term, but is something like that.
    Thanks for your help

  • Download Lion Installer/recovery DVD

I want to creater installer DVD to recover my mac book. My macbook HDD got crashed.
Can I Download Lion Installer?? Anyone has any link for the same to create the recovery DVD?

Maybe maybe not. Some of the newer Macs use a special build of Lion or Mt Lion and the normal download of either of those 2 OSs will not work on those newer systems.
This system you recently bought is IT 4 months old or did you Buy it 4 months ago? And what is the Model Year of it?
If it is a Late 2011 model or newer you can use the Apple Online Internet Recovery system to Boot the computer from over the internet and then you can use Disk Utiltiy to partition the new drive  and then Reinstall the original version of OS X, Lion or Mt Lion, that came on it from the factory.
To access the Online Internet Recovery system at Starup Hold Down the Command+Option+r Keys Until you ksee a spinning globe in the center of the sceen. You Must Hold those key Down until you see the spinning globe in the center of the screen.

  • Satellite U400-183 - Need Recovery DVD and AHCI drivers

    Hi there,
I tried to reinstall Win Vista Home Premium to my Satellite U400-183. I used a Win OS DVD that came with my other Notebook from an other manufacture and the Key which came with my Toshiba notebook. Everything worked just fine but in certain areas of Windows still are some specific settings from the other manufacture. Now is there a possibility to get a Windows Vista DVD from Toshiba?
Another question is where I can get the AHCI drivers. There is only a exe file on the support site which i can't use while installing Windows. There have to be these .sys files but I can't find them on the Toshiba site, so I had to install Windows in compatibility mode.
    THX in advance!
PS: Sorry for my bad english, I'm from Germany...

    Hi!
A new recovery DVD you can get from your local ASP (authorized service provider).
Or you order a DVD from Toshiba directly:
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
The AHCI drivers or lets say Intel Storage Manager you can download from the Toshiba website as you already said.
The .exe file you must extract to use it during the installation but with the recovery disk you dont need them.
Please read the readme file in from the Storage Manager, there is an example how to extract it. Use he command line
    For example: -A -A -PC:\<path>

  • Satellite U400 Impossible to create recovery DVD with Recovery disc creator

    Hi,
I have a Satellite U400 (few years old), and I never created the recovery DVD.
Now I want to do it, but for some reasons, when I launch Toshiba recovery disc creator, nothing happens...
The partition with the recovery files is there, as well as the folder HDDRecovery. I did add some files to this partition, could this be the problem ?
    Thanks for your help.

It is big problem now if the Toshiba tool cannot find the files.
How it works you can read on http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=140985
    Check it out please.
What you can try now is to check if HDD recovery installation will start - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm but Im afraid the same problem will occurs again.
To be honest you should install Win7 32bit on this small Satellite notebook. It works perfectly. Forget original Vista OS, Win7 works better.

  • HP 4540s will not activate windows 8 from HP recovery dvds, please help

    Hi,
I'm trying to migrate my HP from the harddrive to a new ssd I bought. As far as I know windows 8 is supposed to activate based on the code burned into the machines bios, so I bought some hp recovery dvds online as HP recovery manager no longer seems to ship with these machines, so I couldn't make one, and reinstalled windows 8 onto the machine.  After install and connecting to the internet the activation failed, it said the key was blocked.  This can't be, this machine came with windows 8 preinstalled, so it must have a valid key and license I've already paid for.
I've tried burning reinstall media using the microsoft media creation tool but that too fails once it connects to the internet to validate the activation
I would prefer to fresh reinstall, I'm not even sure the drive I took out works anymore or isn't altered at this point, plus its larger than my ssd so cloning would be a problem. And I've also read of problems cloning windows 8 secure boot installs regardless.  In any case I would like to some how be able to get this recovery to work.
Can someone from HP please help me.
    Thanks.

  • NB500: How to use the Recovery DVD without a DVD drive in the netbook?

    Background:
I have a Netbook NB 500 which came with a Win7 Starter. I upgraded to Win8 but didn't like it as the screen resolution wsn't high enough to open Apps. As the system became slower and slower over time, I decided to reset the unit back to original settings using the Win8 function.
The progress on this process was extremely slow and after seven hours (about 60% done) I got a fright that the content of my HDD might be copied somewhere onto the web (NSA cloud? :) ) .
I switched the unit off and from there nothing would work anymore. I bought recovery software with WIN7 Starter from Toshiba Support as I couldn't find an ISO file for WIN7 starter, but it arrived on a DVD...
    I do have:
    + NB 500
    + Toshiba Recovery DVD
+ Bootable USB stick (I created this)
+ Product Key for Win7 Starter
    Question:
What files are necessary in order to install Win7 from scratch (move files from DVD to bootable USB stick)?
Will this procedure delete the old data from HDD or will it still take up space?
    Regards
    LS1-d

It is not simply as you think it is. As far as I know you cannot manipulate recovery data and work on your own bootable media.
Best and simplest way for you is to obtain somewhere external USB ODD and use it for recovery image installation. I have NB520 and I have bought external BD ODD and can use it for different actions like software installation for instance.
Im really wondering you didnt create recovery USB stick. It was my first step after I bought this machine. Product key that you have on Microsoft sticker is useless. You cannot use it for OS installation if you use own OS version and you dont need it if you use original recovery image.
After recovery image installation preinstalled Windows version will be properly activated.
    > Will this procedure delete the old data from HDD or will it still take up space?
Yes. The whole HDD will be deleted so before you start with recovery image installation back-up all your important data.

  • How to boot with another Recovery DVD?

    (Sorry if i have Bad-English)
Hi guys, i bought a 15" MacBook Pro (A1286, Mid-2010) and i'm want to make a clean installation of a Snow Leopard DVD (Note: I bought that computer Without the Original Recovery DVD's) with a Non-Factory Recovery DVD's...
The problem is: When i'm trying to boot from the DVD, it Starts to read (and the Apple logo appears without the progress animation) and the DVD reader stops reading... Nothing else happens
    Please Help Me!

Set the value of the the OpenBootProm (OBP) variable "boot-file" to "kadb" (or "kadb -v" if you prefer verbose kernel messages).
Use either the eeprom(1M) command from the running solaris system,
    like this:
    <pre>
    % eeprom boot-file          (<- query current value of "boot-file")
    boot-file=kadb
    % eeprom boot-file=kadb          (<- define new value)
    </pre>
You can also define this variable from the OBP monitor using the
    OBP command "setenv"
Starting with the next reboot, the file "kadb" will be booted instead
of the "kernel/unix". kadb will load "kernel/unix" automatically
    under debugger control...

  • X120e - Recovery DVD after Fresh Install

    Hi all,
I ended up wiping the factory install of my x120e without making recovery disks first.  Anyone know how to access the recovery partition to create a new system recovery disk?  I tried double clicking the partition and there isn't anything in there; nor did it prompt me to make a recovery DVD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

So...being the genius that I am, I wiped my existing installation to install a new one.  (Some Windows updates have gone wonky.)  And I'm unable to install a new installation of Windows due to the EFI BIOS and it's complaining that it wants a GPT driver.
Thankfully, I did install Rescue & Recovery prior to doing this and I was able to find the cdbackup.wim under "Rescue Files" but I have no idea how to point a new installation at that file or how to retreive and dump it to another computer for PXE booting.   I tried to pull the file out of "Rescue Files" but it won't copy.
    Thanks for your help.
