Portege M700 - Ultra Slim Bay

In the User Guide, in the equipment checklist section, it says 'Ultra Slim Bay Weight Saver (Is included with some models)'. And since i received an Ultra Slim Bay case (which is also included in some models), logically, it would also come with the Weight Saver. Because, when i remove my DVD drive to place into the Ultra Slim Bay case, there's a gaping hole left in the laptop where the DVD drive used to be. It doesn't make sense that Toshiba didn't provide the Weight Saver, does it...?
Thanks for your help,
Joseph

PS. This message was rejected by the system because it was profanity?! what is going on? it took me 7 tries till I decided to edit my message instead. What is wrong with the system? It was VERY frustrating and it doesn't tell you which part it wanted you to edit! poor code... fix it.

Im not a Portege M700 owner but I think Akuma is right. The dummy DVD dray is delivered only with models without DVD drive I think.
If you want it you can contact an authorized service provider. They can order all Toshiba parts.
Or you search on the Toshiba Accessories homepage. Maybe there you will find the part number and then you can search with Google to find some online shops they are selling that part.
Good luck!

  • T61P Ultra Slim bay hard drive issues

    Hi,
I have a new T61P with an additional hard drive in the Ultra Slim bay.
I can safely pull out the old drive or DVD, plug is the another drive - nothing happens!!  I thought this hard drive is suppose to be Plug-N-Play.
Is there any settings / configurations I need to do?  What is the best setting to format that drive?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Use "safely remove devices" or Easy Eject before removing an ultrabay device.
Give windows a few seconds to complete the dismount before inserting the new device
A new hdd will need to be formatted - use Disk Management (right click My Computer - select Manage)
If a HDD was already in a machine and had a HDD password set it will not be detected if you swap it in hot.  You have to cold boot and enter the password when prompted.  If you remove the HDD password using BIOS setup then it will function when hot-swapped.

  • Hard drive adapter for the slim bay

I just got a Portege r835-p56x laptop, and have no use for the optical bay. Putting an optical drive in a laptop makes no sense to me... its like putting a 1.44" floppy in a desktop. I'd like to put a 2nd hard drive in there.
I replaced the 640gb drive that came with the laptop with an SSD... making the laptop much faster... but short on storage space. So it seems perfect to be able to swap the optical SATA drive with the SATA hard drive.
I've read that the connections are different sizes however, and the hard drive would also need to be securely set in there as to reduce vibration. So I went looking for a kit. Apparently Toshiba used to make one, but it was discontinued in 2006. The part was called "Toshiba Ultra Slim Bay HDD ADapter", model # PA3408U-2ETC.
Does anyone have any idea if that part might still fit the newer drive bays?

  • How to connect Portege M700 to TV using VGA port?

I bought a VGA to S-video/audio adapter and connected it to my VGA port and to the TV.
    Nothing happened.
In control panel.... no other display/external display was detected.
The only postings I have come across use a port emulator or something.
I have the Portege M700 preinstalled with Vista Business tablet.
Any ideas would be most welcome.
    Thanks

    Thanks for answering.
I used an adapter which plugs into the VGA port on my M700 and allows either audio/display or S-video to connect to it. That is what I used, trying to connect via S-video or scart... and I'm afraid it did not work for me ;-(
It is a VGA to S-video/audio convertor.
Here is thye ebay link to the adapter I bought for this:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VGA-to-TV-Converter-S-Video-RCA-Out-Cable-Adapter-UK_W0QQitemZ120343643231QQihZ002QQcategoryZ41993QQ tcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
I may be doing something stoopid... I hope I am but it worries me that if it works for you, there must be something wrong with my notebook :-(
The graphics adapter shows "single display" and the multiple display option is not available there.
I am confused as my old laptop used to work just fine.
I am wondering if there is something I need to activate, but there is nothing in the bios setup or control panel.
I just physically connected them and then clicked on the "connect to external display" as well as checking the graphics options.
Perhaps the cable is the wrong one ?

  • Portege m700 Tablet Extended Desktop Problem

I've looked all over and can't find a good answer to this, so I figured I'd better check with the source!  I have a Toshiba Portege m700 tablet PC, which has an LCD monitor connected using the digital cable.
I have the external monitor set as my primary, with the notebook monitor set as the secondary, providing extra desktop real estate to the right of the first monitor.
The problem is that when I use the touchscreen, the mouse controls are only active on the primary monitor (the external one).  What I'd like to do is have the external monitor be primary, the notebook monitor be secondary, and be able to drag items to the notebook and use ink, or onenote, or other touchscreen apps on there.  I want the touchscreen to control ONLY the secondary (notebook) monitor.  Is this possible?
It seems like there should be some way to just instruct the computer to map the touchscreen to the secondary monitor instead of always just mapping to the primary.
However, if there is not, what I did experiment with is having the notebook as primary and the external as secondary, and then using some sort of multimonitor software to manage the taskbar and such to create the illusion of the external monitor being primary.  The problem here is that while the notebook is 1280 x 800 resolution, the external monitor is capable of 1280 x 1024, but when set as secondary will go no higher than 1280 x 800.  Is there a way to force the external monitor to run in 1280 x 1024 if I'm using it as the secondary?
Is this something for which I need an updated graphics driver?  I tried to get a newer version of the Intel GMA, but it actually removed all extended desktop options for me, so I rolled it back.  The version it's running is 6.14.10.4837.
Thank you in advance for anyone pointing me to any driver updates, configuration directions, or external software that can effectively manage all these options of extended desktop, screen resolution, and what monitor is assigned to touchscreen control!

I've just tested the "Extended Desktop for Tablet PC" powertoy, and that doesn't solve this problem.  With the tablet set as the secondary monitor, when I move the window onto that screen, it just recurses the image over itself, which isn't really useful.
No one has any other ideas about this?

  • Portege M700 - Rotation Button Not Working In Tablet Mode

I have a Portege M700 and when I turn it into tablet mode the rotation button quits working.
It works when it in laptop mode.
I have the rotation utility set to go into secondary landscape and its no longer switching and the button on the front of the screen will not switch it anymore either.
I can go into the rotation software and rotate it manually.
Any suggestions on how to get the button functioning again?
Oh and I am running Vista Business with SP 2.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Yes it does rotate it just wont rotate with the button once I turn it . also when I turn it to tablet mode it goes into portrait, I need it to go into secondary landscape. I made sure that the setting are set to secondary landscape and that the button is set to rotate. but it just wont. I have reinstalled the drivers for the rotation utility. any other ideas would be very helpful. thanks

    Hi
You need a 3G broadband module?
As far as I know some of the M700 Portege series have been equipped with the 3G module I think its from Novatel but Im not quit sure
However, if you need an part for the Toshiba notebook which would be compatible for sure, then the best place for buying such part is your ASP.
The guys could check what parts are compatible and could order it from Toshiba if this would be really necessary

  • Feedback on Targus ultra-slim hard drive

I have an 80 GB hard drive on my PBook but use only approximately 30 GBs. and that figure, of course, includes all contents of the operating system. At home (in Canada), I have an 80 GB. LaCie external hard drive, enabling me to back up on a regular basis for safety purposes.
We spend most of the winter months in Northern California and the O.S. instal disks always come with us. The remainder of the info is backed up on DVD-RW's.....a process I find to be very time-consuming. I have therefore been thinking of a very portable hard drive made by Targus, Ultra-Slim Pocket Model ADH01US 40GB, which weighs only 3.5 ozs. and fits in a shirt pocket and this would be perfect for our needs.
I would be extremely interested in any feedback—pros and cons—if anyone has any experience with this hard drive.
    As always....thanx in advance!!
    PowerBook G4, 768 RAM, 80 GB H.D.   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I was just looking around for some reviews on the drive, but I couldn't find anything comprehensive. I did come across a brief Cnet review here, which mentioned a few pros, cons, and alternatives. I've never heard of the drive before so I really can't give any advice on it aside from the fact that I think it looks nice and small (don't misplace it!). Good luck!

Where I Can download AHCI drivers for notebook Toshiba Portege M700-106???
I want to install Windows XP on my book but I don't know how!

    Hi
    > Can I find somewhere at Toshiba's websites Windows XP tablet Edition 2005 with complete drivers

You can find only a Windows XP tablet edition drivers on the Toshiba European driver page! But you will not find a Windows XP tablet Edition 2005 OS for download!!!
You will have to buy a clean OS and then you could install the Toshiba drivers downloaded for the notebook.
PS: I dont know what OS was preinstalled on your M700 but mostly a Toshiba recovery CD/DVD should be delivered together with the notebook.

  • Message "insert system disk" while booting Portege M700

    Hello everyone,
my friend give me his old toshiba Portege M700 and I have problem with it.
When it starts up just shows toshiba logo and then this "please insert system disk and press any key when ready.
I haven't any disk from where can i download the iso and then burn to disk or something like that, I really don't know much about pcs and sorry for my bad english, please help me if anyone can
    thanks a lot

    Hi
Unfortunately, its not possible to download the Toshiba image.
In case you dont have a recovery disk for your notebook model, visit this page to order such disk: http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
But Im not quite sure if you will be able to order the disk because of the notebook age
However, the message: insert system disk appears because the system is not installed on the Toshiba Portege notebook, therefore it asks for the disk.
Of course you can use the clean Microsoft Windows disk to install the system the essential drivers are available on Toshiba EU driver page therefore the Toshiba image is not necessary to reinstall the system if your are own a MS Windows disk

  • Portege M700 crashes after upgrading to Windows 7 32bit

    Dear All,
My portege M700 laptop has for the most part performed reliably.
However, it used to be very sluggish resuming from sleep after a few wake-sleep iterations, taking >5min.
I have now installed Windows 7 32-bit, which is working very well. There are no longer any problems with resuming from sleep. However, about 1-2 times per day now I get a message that Explorer has crashed and must restart. About once per week, the system locks up entirely with a windows blue screen (kernel fault). Most times, in the few seconds around the time the screen freezes, I hear the fan switch on at full speed (much faster than it ever normally runs) and the case becomes quite warm.
I have installed the latest Windows 7 32-bit drivers from the Toshiba UK website.
Can anyone help me diagnose the cause of these crashes?
    Many thanks,
    Chris.

I changed the windows 7 power management settings for the fan to "keep coolest". In normal use, I can feel a slow slightly warm airflow. There's no fluff. All that looks fine.
My suspicion is that something is making the kernel go into a loop (I suspect a driver fault) and that this makes the CPU get hot, and the fan kicks in as it should...
Any other ideas for some specific diagnostic tests to try would be appreciated. The Toshiba "PC Diagnostics" tool passes everything except the network which reports as follows:
    [Diagnostic Results]
NETWORK TEST (1) DONE PASS (Intel(R) 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection)
NETWORK TEST (2) DONE PASS (Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN)
NETWORK TEST (3) DONE FAIL (Cisco AnyConnect VPN Virtual Miniport Adapter for Windows)
NETWORK TEST (4) DONE PASS (VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter)
NETWORK TEST (5) DONE FAIL (Shrew Soft Virtual Adapter)

  • TrueSuite Access Manager on Portege M700-13P

Every time I start up my new Portege M700 this program claims that the drivers are not installed for the fingerprint scanner and tries t install them again. TrueSuite Access Manager Installer starts and then it asks me to restart my PC. EVERY time. I am currently ignoring this but it bugs me.
I can login with the fingerprint scanner which suggests that the message is bogus.
Anyone recommend a way to resolve this?
I am tempted to remove the device from the hardware manager and uninstall the software, then restart, reinstall the software then redetect the hardware...
Anyone got a better idea before I waste my time?
    Cheers,
    Rob.

OK that didn't work... Here is the step by step what happened...
Downloaded latest update to Truesuite from Toshiba site.
Uninstalled the software - revmoed the hardware item from the list in the device manager then restarted.
Got a message - New hardware (all good so far). I clicked to installed drivers.
The Truesuite Access Manager program started up to install (? that's odd...)
Machine claimed all installed ok and offered a restart.
Restarted and the fingerprint scanner not enabled for logging in (OK it might to be logged in once to get it started).
Immediately got a message - New hardware (Damn it!!!)
Waited for full startup sequence to complete... it takes ages thanks to all manner of preloaded stuff.
Clicked to install new hardware - back to the same thing. It reinstalls the truesuite software again and again and again every restart...
    This is stupid.
Anyone got any idea what is going to make this work?

  • Portege M700 rotation issues after upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit

I upgraded to windows 7 last night on my portege m700. It is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I installed all the drivers under the Windows & 64 bit category on Toshiba's page. Everything works great except the screen will not properly rotate when put into tablet mode. I can push ctrl+alt+ arrow keys to rotate it, and I can also use windows mobility center to rotate 90 degrees at one time. I am wondering what I need to have it rotate once snapped into tablet mode, like it did in Vista. I have the Toshiba rotation utility installed but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. It seems like it is not receiving a signal from the monitor that it has been rotated.
I need this for school, so any help is GREATLY appreciated.

    Hi
I think there are not all Win 7 64boit drivers published and released for M700 and you will have to install also some drivers released for Vista 64bit!
    For example:
*Tablet PC Extension Package v 1.0.0.1 for Vista 64bit*
This driver package installs a range of important utilities.
_TOSHIBA Rotation Utility:_ Set the default screen orientation you want the system to use when switching from PC to Tablet mode, or vice-versa.
_TOSHIBA Tablet PC Buttons Driver:_ You can dedicate tablet buttons to performing common tasks so that you can easily operate your tablet computer when you're away from your workstation. For example, you can dedicate a button to open a program or to change your screen orientation.
_TOSHIBA Accelerometer Utilities:_ These Utilities are a set of hardware utilities that work with the motion sensors built into you machine. With the Accelerometer, your machine will be able to detect the way you are holding it at any given moment. You can set the machine to perform a specific function when the unit is quickly tilted to the left or right, or to the front or back. You can also take control of the cursor in some applications and make it move by leaning the PC in a certain direction.
