Portege R100 - Can I configure it for WPA/WPA2?

My Portege R100 has an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter which is only configurable for WEP. Can anyone tell me if I can upgrade it so that it's configurable for WPA/WPA2, please?
Thanks.
Phil

Hi,
I dont know if this helps but i did the same thing as your self, i just changed my settings on the router from WEP to WPA.
Then i installed the latest driver for my card and that did the job for me.
If you have done that and still not working id say you would just need to enable settings on the wireless card.

  • How can I configure labview for communication with Modbus I/O?

i read a article about configureing Labview for communication with modbus I/O in NI developer zone, but it was written for Labview 6, how can I configure it with labview 7. it seems there are some difference. Thanks!

In both LabVIEW 6 and 7, you connect to modbus using Lookout Protocol Drivers (LPD) and then communicate to LPD using the tag engine of LabVIEW DSC or through DataSocket.

  • Wireless Networking - unable to select an encryption type for WPA/WPA2

I recently upgraded to 10.5.3 and didn't notice until now that Network preferences no longer provides an option for specifying the encryption method (TKIP or AES-CMP) for a new wireless network? I don't recall ever having had this issue before. Is this new to 10.5.3 or has this been a recognized problem prior to 10.5.3? I can only select from WPA Personal or Enterprise, WPA2 Personal or Enterprise (ignoring the WEP options here).
Is there another area of the OS that I can modify to change the encryption type?
    This is weird...

While I was able to get WEP to work, it would only switch to WEP for both bands, and I wasn't too excited about this option. So to max out security, what I did was keep my dual band Airport Extreme running on WPA2 (5GHz N-only for all my Mac equipment; a wireless G for ipod touch). I then bought a linksys/cisco WRT54G2 for about $40 new from Amazon, and connected it with ethernet to the Airport Extreme base. Took a little fiddling to get it to behave as a bridge (can describe for you how I did this if you go down this route). But most importantly, maxed out security for WEP on this device by not broadcasting the SSID (don't on my other network either), having a very obscure SSID name (think strong password), set an equally obscure random password of all character types, setup up MAC filter so it could only be connected to my Pronto (and one of my notebooks for configuration). Also run it on a different 2.4ghz channel than the Airport Extreme to minimize conflict. Copied the info over to the Pronto config program (I use bootcamp to do this on my notebook), and everything works great. I do wish Apple gave us complete control over both bands (like the level of config I've done here), but the solution here was still pretty clean. My understanding is that Philips is planning to add WPA/WPA2 to Pronto capability by year-end (the connect/re-connect times are slower and they didn't want their products taking a performance hit, but I'd happily wait an extra second or two after picking up the remote to not expose my network via WEP). Hope that helps, but probably not what you wanted to hear. I found it a fairly quick and inexpensive workaround for now.

  • Free RADIUS/802.1X Service for WPA/WPA2-Enterprise

Hi, just wanted to let everyone know that I recently started offering a Free Edition of our AuthenticateMyWiFi service, a hosted RADIUS/AAA service offering 802.1X authentication for use with WPA/WPA2-Enterprise encryption.
The Free Edition features 1 user account, supports 1 AP, and includes: PEAP authentication for wireless and wired connections, web-based control panel, and activity logging.
This is great for IT professionals wanting to experiment with 802.1X or to get enterprise Wi-Fi security in homes and small offices.

I recommend contacting Linksys support on the phone and ask them which model router has Radius or Enterprise WPA features. Some home class routers may not have this. Ask and see what is available.

  • Passwords for WPA/WPA2 PC household

I just purchased and Airport Extreme N router today after reading good things. I was pleasantly surprised at how it detected the situation (Airport as a wireless bridge to the wired network with wired router. On my PC with the utility, it connects and the performance is very good.
I tried to connect my wife and my son and gave them the 8 character alphanumeric code. The password is incorrect. I tried changing the password that was automatically set up in my Vista network settings to the one I set in the router and it also fails to connect. If I go back into the utility and save settings, it appears to change my password in vista for the wireless network appropriately.
I am using the WPA/WPA2 setting. I read somewhere on the net that it may be setting an equivalent password. I looked this up in the airport utility under "Base station - Equivalent Network Password". The thing comes up with probably 40 digits which make my eyes hurt and no way to cut and paste.
Is there some way to get an ascii password up and running for windows computers like all my other routers have for WPA?
I am assuming I am doing something wrong. I appreciate your help.
    Jim

Thank you, Henry. I read the info on that site earlier and it is good. I am thinking it is something else. These are new laptops. Mine is completely up to date with all patches and drivers, Vista Premium, Dell M1330, Intel 4965AGN Draft N card. I notice that if I type in the password that I set in the airport to the settings for the wireless connection in Vista, then it fails. If I update settings through the Airport utility, which resets the password in Vista for me, it works. I am connected to it right now.
I will play with this more tomorrow. I want to try connecting with no security.
I was going to try to contact support somehow, but it is very hard to find support listed for routers under support options. Actually, it looks like support is something Apple gives sparingly, so I decided to try here. I appreciate the quick response and any other thoughts anyone has.
I have set up a lot of routers using the web page interface. This is simple, but cryptic. It is enough different to be throwing me, so it could be something I have done.

  • How can I configure EP for when user couldn't logon on if a session exists?

    Hi everybody
I need configure on SAP EP this condition, but I don't know how can I do it?
    1. User 1, logon to SAP EP on computer 1.
    2. Then the user changes the ubication, then the user try to logon on computer 2, when he try to log on SAP EP. It returns and error because, a session of logon is on.
Note: SAP EP can't permit, that any user can logon for more two times on server.

I don't think you can quiet achive that. Reason being portal is a stateless. That means when you make initial request to portal, make a logon and then land at the page having some roles, navigation menus, content area etc all it store is a cookie. It neither store any information of who has just logged on nor who navigated from Role A to Role B.
When you navigate through TLN or call an iView, portal consider it as a new request. This time too portal does not know who has made a request. Now the question is how does it know if a specific iView is to be displayed as it is assigned to you or not? This is done using a cookie named saplogon ticket. When you make a request inside portal, all it have is this cookie and no information of who you are? So it just checks the cookie for the authorization and OKs the request and hence you get access to iView or a role or whatever.
Now coming back to your scenario, when user has already logged on from computer 1, say saplogon ticket1 is created and is used for further navigation and authnetication. However, when you try to logon from computer 2, your portal session does not have any information about saplogon ticket1, instead it generates its own cookie say saplogon ticket2.
That means, portal cannot retain the state of the earlier request made by you from computer 1.
I hope this clears your question.

Most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin. Sometimes it's necessary to uninstall then reinstall that plugin.
Uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed plugin first.
Now launch Safari and try a video.
If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
You may also need to delete the cache associated with Safari .
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy/paste:   ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Click Go the move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try a video.

  • Portege R100 - can I reinstall WXP with USB floppy & USB drive?

I have recently corrupted my R100 through a virus attack. In spite of belatedly cleaning things up with Norton it now goes very slowly and I believe the only way forward is through a total XP reinstall.
I have the original recovery CDs and a USB floppy drive but not a PCMIA CDRom. As luck would have it my USB CDRom is broken. How do I get out of this situation? I am about to throw out an old desktop and would be happy to use the XP retail on the R100 if needed. Moreover is there any way to start the format & install process from a bootable floppy and then install the bulk of the OS from a USB drive - having been populated previously with copies of CD contents? Desperate people dream up desperate methods!
I have read some other threads on XP recovery issues but they are not entirely coincident with my circumstances. Any help on this front would be very gratefully received.
    Thanks in advance.

If you can get the setup files onto the R100 HDD using a FAT32 partition, you can install Windows from the HDD after booting from an MSDOS boot disk. (MSDOS cannot see NTFS drives).
You can use a 1.8" USB HDD Adapter to copy the Setup files to the R100 HDD from another PC. The Adapter wouldn't be expensive.

  • How does one update original airport card for WPA?

Hi, I've an earlier AX, and an original airport card that I understand can be updated to be able to be WPA compatible. How do I do this? The AX is setup for WPA/WPA2 personal, and I have no trouble joining the network from other macs, and I just learned that the original airport card is supposedly able to be updated to also handle WPA. This card is installed on a g3 imac 700 se with os 10.4.11.
I also posted this question in the airport express forum, but thought it may have a better chance of being answered here after I thought about it a bit.
    Thank you,
    ez

You can't get it to do WPA2.
You can get it to do WPA if you have the right software installed, which you probably already do:
AirPort Card: When You Can Join a WPA Network
The base station or equivalent has to be set up for 802.11b/g that is BOTH b and g, since the \[original] Airport card is 802.11b.

  • After Time Warner changed my modem, I can't get wifi for my iPad

I use iMac 10.6.8 and Airport Extreme 5th generation.
ISP is Time Warner cable and used RCA modem (very old) connected with Airport Extreme.
I could use iPad and iPod Touch using wifi well via Airport.
However, since the internet speed was very slow, the Tech guy from Time Warner came and changed my Modem to ARRIS DG1670.
Since then, even though the Internet via Mac become faster, I had no wi-fi and can't use both iPad and iPod. I even can not use the Printer without USB cable.
The both device show my Wi-fi network name but could not get the connection.
I called Time Warner and they told I have to configure my router (Airport Extreme) to match the new modem and have to contact Apple to ask how to configure.
When I go to "Network" from the system preference and see the AirPort , it says Self-Assigned IP on the left side box and on the right side, the Status is ON but
tells "Airport has the self-assigned IP address 169.254.XXX.XX and will not be able to connect to the internet".
When I clicked the Ethernet, it show Connected and the IP is like 69.86.XX.XXX and the Router is 69.86.XX.X
However, when I check the Airport Utility, the IP is like 69.86.XX.XXX and totally different from the "Network" info. (169.254.XXX.XX).
How can I configure it for the new modem?
Should I reset to the Manufacture Default setting?  If so, I have to start from Reset button on the backside of Airport?
Is there anyone can help? Thank you.

    Thank you again.
Yes, it worked. First, I just replaced the all info. as before,  the router IP also (Stupid) , not success.
So, I created the new network, then, the Router IP automatically showed up .
I think the old setting still there under my Airport station (so, 2 setting right now)?
Anyway, my iPad and iPod touch works well with the new wi-fi network.
    Thank you very much.
I got this Airport Extreme from a friend who wen to Time Capsule, still have the box and serial No. but will not work for Apple Phone support.
I appreciate for your fast help.

  • Does orig. Airport card support WPA/WPA2?

Can a Mac equipped with an original Airport card (802.11b) connect to a WPA- or WPA2-protected network via a third-party router? (Any router — my question doesn't concern a particular router, but is more general in nature.) If so, are there minimum OS or other software version requirements for WPA/WPA2 support with the old card? Is there an Apple article that specifies the relevant requirements and procedures? My repeated searches for one have been fruitless, and this question comes up regularly in some forums I monitor daily where I'd like to be able to answer it confidently.

A Mac equipped with an original Airport card supports only WPA, not WPA2.
Verification of the fact that the original Airport card supports WPA is found at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107795
A Mac equipped with an Airport Extreme card (or newer) is required for WPA2 support.
I don't know of a Knowledgebase article that specifically states an Airport Extreme card is required for WPA2 support. However, that requirement is clearly stated in the older versions of Airport update software that added WPA2 support to OS X. See for example:
