Portege R100: Recover from USB2.0 CD drive?

I need to reset my Portege R100 to the factory settings, erasing the hard disk and removing all documents and programs. I don't have a Toshiba CD-ROM drive, only a LaCie CD/DVD USB 2.0 drive. This has worked with other notebooks, but I can't get the R100 to boot off it.
Does anyone have a suggestion???

Hi soren,
maybe you know that you could boot from CD-ROM when you are pushing the "C" key for aprox. 3 secs when you push the power button. But this is only for internal solutions.
In your issue you could test if it works when you are pushing "U" key. "U" stands for USB device!

What version of PS?  If it's CC, just reinstall the CC application manager then PS and sign in.  For an earlier version you will need to call Abobe to have you S/N reset.

  • Data recover from a hard drive error 301

Can anyone advise me of how to recover data from a hard drive error 301.  I have a pavilion dv7-4177 and i received the hard drive error code 301 two weeks after the warranty expired. I back up my data so I though but when tried to reload that data on a new hard drive it would not take. The damage hard drive will not load the OS now even in safe mode. Is there any way to retrieve this data from that hard drive.

    Hi,
One possible way to try and retrieve your files from a non-booting drive is to follow the process detailed in the link below.  The Ubuntu operating system CD you create can run from the CD alone ( ie it doesn't have to install on the Hard Drive ) and I've often found it to be successful in retrieving data even from a failing Hard Drive.  When you've created the CD, follow the instructions and see if you can back up your files.

  • Recovering from a network drive

    Hey all
I've been successfully using Time machine on a network drive (using "defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1"
in a console). Unfortunately, my HDD broke and apple support had to install a new one.
Now, how do I restore from that network drive again? I have a freshly installed and fully updated Leopard already and would like to just restore the users' settings. But, the network drive isn't visible in the migration assistant.
I even tried to copy the network drive's content to a firewire disc... still nothin visible.
    What else can I do?
    Thanks a million!!!
    Bernhard

Yes, I can mount the image and thus have access to all revisions stored by time machine. Maybe I could use rsync to get the data back in place? My hope was to make time machine recognize the image on the (now) local drive and recover from there... is that possible?
I know that it's unsupported to use time machine on a nas, but - for me - running time machine on a local hdd just doesn't make much sense (I want multiple computers to do their backup to the same drive and I also want to separate the backup drive from the original drives physically). I also don't see why this should be so difficult to implement (Vista can do it btw... :-)), unless, of course, Apple wants to sell its time capsules...
Anyway, I didn't want to complain, I would just like to get my data back.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Portege R100: recovery issue - Error partioning drive

My old portege r100 is not working at all.
I tried to use the product recovery cd rom but during the recovery process the following message apears:
    Error partioning drive!
    What does it mean?
What can i do to overcome it?
    Thanks in advance
    Yannis

    Hi
It seems that HDD could not be partitioned properly.
Maybe the HDD is not ok?
Check if the HDD is recognized and listed in BIOS.
If the HDD is not listed, then the HDD is dead and should be replaced.
If the HDD is listed, then there could be a problem with the HDD partitions table
You could test the HDD using a tool called Drive Fitness Test.
You could also try to format the HDD firstly. You could attach this HDD to another computer using an USB HDD controller. This helps you to get access to the HDD and to format this drive

  • How to recover from renaming a drive?

I was running Pro Tools on my G5 internal drive with OSX 10.4 . I did a CC clone of the entire drive to an external firewire drive, and then upgraded the internal drive to OSX 10.5.8. My version of PT won't run with OSX 10.5.8 so I decided to dual boot (by holding down the C key) to run PT on the external drive.
Unfortunately, I changed the name of the external drive so I could tell it from the internal drive when dual booting. (I know, dumb move)
Now I can't get PT to run on my external drive, and I think it's because for the drive name change. Problem is, I don't remember what the name was to change it back. Is there some log or file I can look at to tell what the drive name used to be? Or am I totally off base here, and is there another way for me to recover from my stupidity?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ray

I can't imagine that the HD name change is the cause of your problem. As far as I know, there is no log or file that would show the prior name.
If you depress the Option key at startup which opens the Startup Manager window, does your external drive appear as a bootable choice?

  • Recovering from a hard drive crash

I had a complete hard drive crash and lost all of the songs in my ITunes library. All the songs are on my IPod. When I reinstall ITunes, is it possible to transfer the songs from my IPod back into my computer? If so, how. I have over 12,000 songs on my IPod so I have no desire to reload all of the CD's again.

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • How do I recover from a hard drive crash??

I had an extreme hard disk crash with all of my images and the recovery service could only recover a few of the images.  Here's my problem - when I originally imported my Nikon images (.NEF format) into LR, I created a new .dng format and saved the .NEF images as the backup copy.  Now that I'm trying to get images back, when I try to import from the backup image in the .NEF format, I get a message in LR that says "The files appear to be unsupported or damaged."  What the heck does that mean?  What good are the backups if I can't get to them in LR?  Please help or I've lost thousands of images to use in LR.

    Quilla98 wrote:
I just did some checking and LR seems to import .NEF format files if taken with the D70 but not with the D90.  So it appears you are absolutely correct about 1.4.1 not supporting the D90 .NEF files.  I guess Bridge can handle the D90 .NEF format but LR won't.  So to use the same process again, I'd have to somehow clear all of the files that Bridge has and start over.  It would probably be much simpler to either use the DNG converter or upgrade to LR 2.
Support for the D90 was introduced along when the Camera Raw 4.6 update whereas Lightroom 1.4.1 only supports cameras included by Camera Raw 4.4.1. So, yes you will have to upgrade to Lightroom 2.x or convert the NEFs to DNG format.

  • I am recovering from a hard drive crash and Windows 7 reinstall.

I have reinstalled LR 4.3, photos still in same external drive location, LR catalog back to C:My Pictures file (from backup).
How do I now add these photos and connect the LR4.3 with the LR catalog to preserve my edits to date on these photos?
    Thanks

If you have Lightroom installed, then all you should have to do is double click on the catalog that you restored.  If the external hard drive letter is the same as it was before, you should be ready to go.  If the letter has changed it will be necessary for you to use the find missing folders feature to get things synchronized.

  • Recovering from a hard drive crash with play counts in tact - Is it possibl

I keep all my mp3s on an external hard drive. Well, I did until it just crashed. Luckily, I backed up everything just yesterday to another hard drive so I didn't lose anything. My only issue is this...itunes can't find the files. I guess I can just start from scratch but I don't want to lose my play counts. Is there any way to easily "point" itunes to the back up location? This is more important to me than it should be, I guess.

  • Rescue & Recover From Iomega eGo Drive... Help!

    Hello all...
I have backed up my T61 to an iomega eGo 1T USB drive. I now have to restore my full system and cannot get R&R to restore the drive.
After opening the R&R program (I used R&R to back up the full drive) click on Restore, then click Full Restore and reach the screen for Backup location, nothing shows. Even when clicking All, nothing shows up. The drive is shared and I would think it would show up, yet nada...
How do I get it to recognize the eGo drive? I have used every possible appropriate location shown in the drop down box without success.
What have I failed to do? Thanks for your input and suggestions...
    TIA..

Tell us more about what you are doing...
    - why do you need to do a full restore?
    - how are you booting the system to run R&R?  Are you booting to a rescue CD, booting to Windows (*** see below), booting to F11, or something else?
*** if you are booting to Windows, is it the same Windows installation you've always had, or did you re-install Windows prior to trying to do the restore?
My T61 is corrupted and there are a few spyware components which I cannot remove. I also have a proprietary program from work which cannot be re-installed due to a current sql problem.
My system boots up 'normally' as it were and I go into TV R&R which is in my Program menu to enter it. I did have auto back up, full disk to the eGo drive so I would not have to worry about it.
To summarize, I can boot up and use my system with some caveats, I do need to restore the full system to rid it of the spybots and other such. I had removed the partition on the local hd for restore as it was taking up too much space on the hd. The reason I purchased an external hd.
TIA and I do apologize for the previous duplicate post.

  • Activation: how can I recover from a hard drive crash?

My hard drive crashed on me...  All my data is safe, but now I have to figure out how to reactivate both Lightroom 3 and CS3.
I have rebuilt the failed machine with a new hard drive, but it was getting rather old so I also took the opportunity to purchase a new machine.  My intention is to get Lightroom and CS3 installed and registered on the new machine.  I understand that under normal circumstances I could deactivate Adobe products on the old machine, install and reactivate on the new machine.  But since I rebuilt it, the old machine doesn't actually have Lightroom and CS3 installed and activated -- no activation, so no chance to deactivate.
I see two options.  Which is easier?
I could reinstall both Lightroom and CS3 on the old machine, activate them, then deactivate them, then install and activate on the new machine.  If I reinstall and reactivate on the old machine, will Adobe's activation service recognize that I'm reactivating on a machine that already had Lightroom and CS3 installed (everything is the same except the hard drive)?  If not, will I be able to activate since I will be trying to activate an already-activated license?
Alternately, I could just install on the new machine and attempt to activate there.  I expect I'll run into problems, again because I'm trying to activate with a key that was used to activate on a different system.  I expect I'll have to phone into Adobe to clear this up.
I'm concerned that if I take the wrong path it will make it more difficult to get everything working in the end, possibly to the point where Adobe will refuse to allow me to activate my licences on my new machine.  Does anybody have any advice?
    Thanks.

Since CS3 is not a shipping version there is NO activation needed, only the current shipping version. Install CS3 and insert the serial number.
Do the same with LR. No install, uninstall, gymnastics needed nor phone calls to Adobe Tech Support.
I did this when my power supply shorted and took the whole machine up in smoke, all four hard drives worth. When I got the new computer I just installed CS2 with the license and no activation needed.

  • Recovering from a hard drive failure

My HD recently failed, I just got my machine back from my friendly Apple Store. Thankfully, my iTunes library is on an external HD. I got my music up and running, but I can't get the TV shows I had back in my library. They are all in the iTunes Music folder, in a folder called "TV Shows". Every time I try to add iTunes does nothing. Anyone ever hear of this or have any advice for me?
