Portege R111 BIOS update

I have recently bought quite old notebook of Toshiba Portege R111 Series. There was Dynabook SS 2120 DS11L/2. Can anybody help me to find BIOS update file for it? Thanks in advance.

I have really had Portege R111 Dynabook SS 2120 DS11L/2. I bought it in China but what I could recognise it was made in China for selling in Japan. Unfortunately the Japanese Toshiba service centre can only communicate in Japanese so it is difficult for me to get any information from it. :^(

  • Portege 2010 BIOS update / operating temperature

    Hi,
how can I update my BIOS when using Ubuntu Linux?
The reason why I'd like to update my BIOS is that on the one hand Ubuntu
writes an error message during boot-up and recommends to upgrade it and on
the other hand I'm afraid that there is maybe a temperature problem, at least the
notebook becomes slower after working for a while.
The notebook operating temperature usually is between 45-64 degrees.
The fan turns on at 62 degrees and turns off at 52 degrees.
Temperature seems to be pretty normal I would say but I think its not normal that the
notebook becomes slower when operating above 50 degrees.
I already opened it, it seems to be all right with the cooling unit, no dirt e.g...
Maybe I just persuade myself I and the performance is completely normal for a PIII with
    866MHz??
    Thank you

    thank you for your answer.
Well I already had Windows installed on a second partition but when I tried to open the .exe file which was supposed to open an application to create a bios-update-disk, nothing happend!
When I had a look at the process explorer there was a process running but thats it...
By the way I have to mention that I don't have a floppy drive so maybe the application
    was searching for it....
Is there a chance to tell me the necessary content of it and to burn a cd instead?
    Another question:
I would have the chance to get a Portege R100 in good shape but with damaged screen,
so as far as I believe the 2010 and the r100 are of identical construction right?
So it shouldn't be a big deal to build my 2010 sceen into the r100?
    regards

  • Portege R500 BIOS update 1.60-WIN

    Hello
I was looking at the 1.60-WIN BIOS update available on the download pages since 25/03/08.
Anybody know what the update does?
The explanation on the download page just says: +"This Bios Update adds increased functionality to your system."+
    Thanks in advance.

Yeah, 0,85V is locked by the CPU. It's Intel's mistake that the CPU runs so hot and doesn't accept halt commands. I tried maybe 5-6 available apps and no luck. Also, Win XP makes the R500 much snappier and faster, and even thought it consumes less resources than Vista the CPU gets to 62C and fan start whining. Then the temp drops to 55C and the fan stops. It takes3-5 mins and the temp rises again to 62C and this goes on and on. With an idle system and the lowest cooling method! Crazy!! I'm afraid BIOS update and the higher temp threshold would not help because the limit should be somewhere near the absolute max temp that the CPU can handle and that would make the whole laptop very very hot. 80-90C?
I wonder is it possible to force (hack) the CPU to accept low voltages like couple of years ago pencil tricks worked nicely.. or custom code for the halt command...

  • Portege A100 PPA10A - Will BIOS update allow to boot from a USB device

    Hi,
I have an Old Portege A100, Model: PPA10A-0002LP, but I can't seem to find that model on any Toshiba website, closest I've seen is the " PPA10A-0002L".
I'm wanting to see if there's a BIOS update that will allow me to Boot from a USB Device.
The issue I am having is that I need to reinstall Windows, but the CD ROm cant read discs.
It does Network Booting PXE, but i'm new to this sort of thing and have absolutly no idea what to do there.
    Any help would be great,
    Thanks

    Hi
Portege A100 seems to be developed only for Australian market.
As you said there is a Portege A100 PPA10A-0002L model number listed on the Toshiba Australian page but the Portege A100 PPA10A-0002LP belongs to the same series which is PPA10A.
So in my opinion the BIOS should work too.
Anyway, I doubt that the BIOS update will add any further booting options.
Usually the BIOS support the booting from CD/DVD drive, HDD, LAN and USB FDD.
It should be possible to boot from a bootable diskette using an USB FDD drive.
I doubt you would be able to boot from USB ODD since this Portege A100 supports an internal CD/DVD drive.

  • My Portege 7020CT at start up ask for BIOS update disk

I have a Toshiba Portege 7020CT and it will not boot up as it asks for a bios update disk to be inserted into floppy then press any key.
Can anyone explain were to get the bios update disk from please and how to fix this? Many thanks.

The BIOS should be available on the Toshiba driver page.
But its very strange that the unit ask for the BIOS update.
Did you get any error messages like RTC battery is empty or something like that?
Try to enter the BIOS and try to set the bios to default options and then save the settings and try to start the notebook again.

  • Portege Z835 - need help with BIOS update

    Hello.
I have a Portege Z835, with a battery problem: don't charge. The battery indicator says "3% connected and charging" but it don't charging the battery.
Some forums says that the solution is updating the Bios. I have a Bios update v.1.60 ready for install. When I try to install, we get the message "the battery power is not enough".
My power cord is always connected. If I disconnect the power cord, laptop is off.
    Please, what can I do?
    Thanks.
    GB.

    Hi
Theoretically this issue could be related to faulty battery.
As mentioned by Silas, even if the notebook is not ON the battery should be charged if AC adaptor is connected. So Im afraid its not BIOS issue and update would not help you.
You can try this: If notebook is OFF, remove the battery.
Now connect the AC adaptor and power up the unit now the OS should not report any battery statues since the battery is not plugged in.
Now connect the battery and check if the battery charging status would change/increase.
If this does nothing, would recommend testing new battery.

    What does the BIOS update for Portege Z830 (PT224 / PT225 / PT22L), version 1.80 do?
The description just says +"This BIOS Update adds increased functionality to your system."+, and I haven't been able to find anything more on Toshiba's website. The update was released 2013-05-24.

    Good morning.
Can someone tell me where can i find the changelog for BIOS update 4.50-WIN(ECB1.40)?

  • Portege R111 - Where is 'END' button on keyboard

    Hello,
    I have a notebook Portege R111, model no. PPR11N-01KOK2.
In bios I've changed. The changes are applied to the 'End' button. With no ESC changes.
This 'End' button I do not find on the keyboard.
Can anyone tell me where the key is located on the keyboard?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dag

Im really wondering you cannot find it. It must be visible on the keyboard. Long time ago I saw Japanese keyboard layout but there was also small English layout placed on every single key.
It is also interesting that on some notebooks END key is placed together with some other key function and can be used as key combination but usually END key in such case primary option.

  • N500 bios update Windows 7 not working

I've tried to run the winflash utility from Lenovo support to update N500 to  v1.10, but it says it can't load the driver once I have started the flashing. Running as administrator and in compatibility mode doesn't change it. Is it possible to flash the bios with a DOS startup? The bios is in a wph format and not bin in the winflash package.
    Solved!

bios update is for vista, not windows 7.

  • Msi z97 gaming 5 bios update help

Hello I recently purchased the msi z97 gaming 5 motherboard. It was working fine it came with bios version 1.0 and I wanted to update it. I downloaded the latest 1.5 bios from msi website copied to usb flash drive and flashed it using mflash. Computer powers on but black screen wont do nothing. I cleared cmos and battery and still nothing so I am pretty sure its bricked. I am going to store to exchange it for another one but I want to be able to safely update the bios without bricking again. I usually dont update bios unless needed but i need at least 1.2 bios to fully support the devils canyon cpu. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I read about the usb flashing tool in forum but also read that bios+me need to be flashed and I don't know if that program is up to date and will flash both files? I really appreciate it if someone helped thanks in advance.

Also does anyone know if it is dangerous to update the bios with a 4690k devils canyon cpu since it is not officially supported until 1.2? Is that why my first bios flash was bricked? I would hate to go and borrow another cpu just to update the bios but if I have to I will. Sorry for all the questions but I need to get my bios updated and I will not update it until I am sure of all these things. Thanks to anyone who answers these questions.

However if you need BIOS update prior to have some RAM or GPU working fine (or other stuff), then maybe consider updating to 1.6 and then to 1.9 and finally to 1.B (1.11). I suggest using MFlash (files can be downloaded on MSI's product site, instructions should be included). For Forum Flash tool you need proper files provided (usually) by Svet or Flobelix.
Before attempting to flash, make sure your system is stable!
I downloaded BIOS 1,5 and 1,6 and in both cases i have same issue it stucks on 100% on M-Flash, after this I can normaly shut down pc and it work but witch 1.4 BIOS. I just want know whyi can;t
    updtate.
