Portege R500 and Toshiba Optical Tilt-Wheel Mouse

Hello,
I have a problem with my Portege R500 combined with my Toshiba Optical Tilt-Wheel Mouse. I use Win XP Pro SP2.
During notebook usage the mouse will be disconnected. If I plug out the mouse and plug in another USB port, I can use the mouse for a while, but it halts not longer.
Later comes the same problem, but a reconnect to another USB port doesnt work.
I use the original driver of Microsoft win xp.
Bye hoody

Did you receive the special XP driver together with this mouse?
If yes then install it.
But from my knowledge its common USB mouse which should use a plugn play device
So possibly you should check the USB settings.
Go to the device manger and open the USB bus controller tree
There you should mark the single USB root hubs and should select properties.
In the power management tab disable the function Allow the computer to turn off this device
Furthermore I recommend updating the XP to the latest state; I mean all hotfixes and patches should be installed!!
Good luck

  • Scrolling horizontally in Code view with tilt-wheel mouse.

I'm having an issue with scrolling horizontally via my mouse's tilt-wheel, side-scrolling feature.  I'm using Dreamweaver CS6 in WIndows 7, but perhaps the bug may apply to CC as well.
When I scroll sideways, the scrollbar moves, but it loses all of it's styling (gradient effect and draggable icon) but the view content does NOT move at all.  After side-scrolling, if I click anywhere in the Code view, the styling resets and the content tries to reconcile with the scrollbar's location, and the view breaks, like this:
Scrolling vertically past these lines and back resolves the text breakage.  But, horizontal scrolling is still a pain unless I make the effort to drag the scrollbar with my cursor.
I've considered it being a driver issue, so I reinstalled them and restarted.  I've installed legacy versions and restarted.  No dice.
Has anyone else experienced this?  Why is tilt-wheel side-scrolling different than clicking the right arrow button?  Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks Jon.
But, I'd rather not word-wrap.  I see plenty of how-to's for word-wrapping, so I'm not sure if I'm really alone in wanting to visually maintain longer lines, or whether hardly anyone else has tilt-wheel issues, or that they don't find it worth posting for help about.
Hm.  I'll keep looking for a solution for a while longer.

  • Portege R500 - Does Toshiba sell OEM licenses for Windows 7

    Hi
I have a Portege R500 with Windows XP.
I have now installed a Windows 7 version without activation to see if all drivers work (Windows 8 is not supported as far as I know).
All looks good and Windows is telling me now as expected it is not genuine and offers me to buy the license, but when I go to MS it fails (it seems MS does not sell Windows 7 anymore).
Does Toshiba sell OEM licenses for Windows 7 for a R500 ?
It would be a shame to throw it away because of that.
    Thank you
    Markus

Toshiba offers notebooks with preinstalled recovery image and offered version is activated. With other words when you buy notebook you buy also valid licence for preinstalled OS version.
Toshiba supports newer operating systems too. As you can see on Toshiba download page you can find drivers, tools and utilities for Win7 64bit and use them after Win7 installation.
Unfortunately Toshiba doesn't offer licence for it. All you must do it to obtain Win7 64bit with valid licence.

  • Using a mac OSX and a logitech M-UAG120 mouse, how do I use the wheel button to open a link in a new tab (but not switch to it)? Can't type a key in box.

In the logitech control center I've clicked on my mouse (tilt wheel mouse), clicked on 'wheel button', and in the dropdown menu selected keystroke. Under 'configure keystroke', there's a "type a key..." box, and to the right, there's a "choose any modifier" selection.
On this web page, http://www.accessfirefox.org/Firefox_Keyboard_and_Mouse_Shortcuts.html, the instruction for 'open link in new tab' is Cmd+Return Cmd+Click
On this page, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mouse-shortcuts-perform-common-tasks, the instruction for 'open link in new tab' is command+Left-click link Middle-click link
I cannot figure out how to type these in correctly to make the function work.
    Help please?
    Thank you all.

I do not know what the standard setting is. In my Mac system preferences, when I access the Logitech Control Center, I click on "wheel button" (button 3), and get a drop down menu with the following choices:
    Nothing<br />
    Click<br />
    Advanced Click<br />
    Cruise<br />
    Horizontal Scroll<br />
    Keystroke<br />
    Modifiers<br />
    Open Application<br />
    Open Document<br />
    Open Folder<br />
    Open Web Page<br />
    Back<br />
    Forward<br />
    Cover Flow<br />
    Display Control<br />
    Eject CD<br />
    End Session<br />
    Expose' Dashboard & Spaces<br />
    One-Touch Search<br />
    Quick Look<br />
    Screen Capture<br />
    Sound Control<br />
    Switch Application<br />
    Zoom
I'm lost here. The mouse used to do it, then I needed to unplug it, and when I set it up again, the wheel button is inert when used on a link.

  • How do you disable text cursor movement when scrolling horizontally with a tilt wheel or touchpad; or rather, how do you make these horizontal scrolling actions only scroll horizontally and nothing else?

Frequently when I use a touchpad or tilt wheel mouse to scroll horizontally, the web page does not scroll at all. Instead, the text cursor moves left or right. If the text box is off-screen, the page will jump to it, losing the spot on the page I was reading. This happens way too often given the sensitivity of touchpads and tilt wheel mice.
I'd like to just disable the cursor movement function of the horizontal scroll. I don't feel that it is useful and it actually hurts my web browsing experience. I do not want to disable horizontal scrolling though; I just want it to always scroll horizontally and do nothing else.

You would make this a little easier if you posted a link to the page.
Most of the jump seems to be some extra padding or margin between the tabs  when you rollover, but I am not able to find it.  Is there any other css that is governing this page? I did remove a couple of <p></p> set of tags you had  and it improved the jump, but it is still there.
If the page is live, run it through the validator http://validator.w3.org/ , fix whatever errors it finds, if you still have the jump, post a link to the page and the issue might get found.

  • Portege R500: Need XP drivers for FN button utility

    Hi...
I have reinstalled Win XP(include formatting HDD) so recovery is impossible...
I need a link or an exact driver name to activate FN buttons on my keyboard...
    Please advise...
    thnkx...

I dont think Toshiba Controls will enable the Fn keys, but you should install it anyway.
Common Modules is very important on Toshiba laptops, you need to install it first before the other drivers.
    Go to http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
Look up Portege R500, and download:

  • Portege R500 - no beep at console for Ubuntu or OpenSolaris

While I know a lot of people here detest beeps, they are useful for people with visual impairments.  I have a Portege R500 and I'm unable to make the system beep when I'm in the non-graphical mode of Ubuntu or OpenSolaris.  For example, when I'm at a virtual console and type "printf '\a'", the system will not beep.  It will do so, however, when I'm in a terminal launched on my graphical desktop.
I've gone into the BIOS and have set the beep level to the loudest setting -- the system will indeed beep quite loudly when I press/hold the Escape key when powering on.  Something, however, seems to prevent it from beeping when I really need it to.
Is there some BIOS setting or upgrade I can perform to make this beast beep?  Is this a hardware limitation of the R500?

    Hello Paulo
If you check this Win7 section you can find many comments but one general message is there: Win7 is not official released and Toshiba doesnt offer WIN7 drivers at the moment. When the Win7 will be official released Toshiba will start Win7 support and I hope your Portege will be supported too.
That means Toshiba will offer Win7 drivers on Toshiba download page. These drivers will be tested and it should work properly. At the moment on Toshiba US support page you can download some Win7 BETA (not tested) drivers. If you want check it under http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modSel.jsp

  • Most loud cooling module in Portege R500

I have Portege R500 and air fan in notebook is more loud.
I was trying more profiles of cooling (Battery optimized, Performance, battery performance, Cooling optimized) and with all profiles is air fan most loud. :(

    Hi
I think there is nothing wrong with your notebook or cooling modules.
The cooling module could be little bit louder due to the fast fan rotation.
But the fan has to rotate faster to ensure a good and properly cooling.
This is necessary and essential to ensure that your internal parts like CPU and GPU would not overheat!!!
PS: Did you check Dynamic CPU frequency mode settings in Toshiba HWSetup?
Please check if the frequency mode was set to dynamically switchable.
    I know you have changed the Power Saver settings too but lets me repeat it again;
    PCI Power Saver -> enable
    CPU control method -> auto
CPU processing speed -> set it to a lower level (left)
Cooling method -> lower level (left)

  • Portege R500 - Unknown button on desktop

    Hello
I have a Portege R500 and I noticed a small button in the upper left corner of my desktop (see screenshot, inside the red circle). The button looks very much like a close button on a window, but if I click it, nothing happens. It appears when I minimize all my opened windows. When I press the "display desktop" button in the "quick launch bar" however, it isn't there.
Has someone encountered the same problem or does anyone has an idea where this button comes from and how I can prevent it from showing up?

    Hi there,
do you have ICQ installed? If yes, then you know what this "object" is, its the sign that ICQ runs in the background. Otherwise its some other application which runs in the background and places such a symbol somewhere around the desktop.
Could you please tell me which 3rd party apps are installed on your machine? Would be useful to know, maybe we can figure out what this weird symbol means..

  • Hard Disk Replacement for Toshiba Portege R500-S5006X

I have a Toshiba Portege R500-S5006X which is out of warranty. I would like to replace the hard disk. What hard disk should I purchase? What is the maximum capacity (size in GB), maximum RPM speed and size in inches I can use in this laptop? Will a SATA-2 hard disk work in this laptop? Any other information I need to know about the hard disk replacment? I would be happy to get an answer from an official Toshiba technician.
    Thanks,
              dandanl

I don't know if the Toshiba people who post here are technicians, I suspect not, so you might be waiting for a while if that's the only person you would accept information from...
At any rate, the standard drive in that computer looks like it is a SATA 2.5" 9.5mm thick.
The following is a spec page for one of the stock drive options (they used a couple different drives, but pretty much equivalent)
    http://storage.toshiba.com/storagesolutions/archived-models/MK1646GSX
As far as something of a larger capacity working, it should be fine, just keep in mind that a physically larger drive might not fit, so keep the height to 9.5mm

  • Portege R500 connection to Toshiba 19AV505D LCD TV

I want to connect my Portege R500 laptop to a Toshiba 19AV505D LCD TV.
I have tried using a VGA to HDMI cable and altering the screen resolution to 800x600 and 16bit colour but it still won't recognise the tv.
    Any ideas?
TheTV manual says use a DVI to HDMI cable and I tried this first with a VGA converter (as there is no DVI socket on the R500) but it didn't work either.
Would a SCART to VGA cable work?

What VGA->HDMI adapter are you using?
What version HDMI does it support?
Maybe the TV requires HDMI v1.2 or v1.3 (check the users manual)

  • Portege R500 fan spins up and freezes

    Hi
I have a Portege R500 running windows XP. I seem to be having issues with the Fan spinning up really quickly and the Laptop then freezing. It sems to happen mostly when I remove the Cat5 from the nic and turn on the Wireless nic. Toshiba have replaced the Cooling Module for me. I'm not sure if the issue is hardware or software, the issue sometimes happens randomly but as above mostly when removing the Cat5.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi all.
    Thanks for the replies.
I have an image that I use, this image has been installed on 3 or 4 other Porteges and they have been fine. I have reinstalled the OS on this Laptop about 5 times, I have also tried Vista but get the same problem.
Sounds like it could be a Hardware issue then. Has anyone else experienced any issues like this?
I know the Laptops are small and the Airflow doesn't seem that great so it could just be over heating but as I say other machines are fine and the issue occurs mostly when the Wireless NIC is turned on.
Thanks for all the help so far.

  • Portege R500 - Cannot find DVD playback and DVD writer software?

We've got some Portege R500 notebooks and putting our corporate image on them fine.
I can't find the DVD playback sofware and the DVD writer software on the download site, is it available? It comes pre-installed on the machine but we don't want to use the image it comes with.
    thanks

    > This doesn't make sense; the image it comes with is not suitable for our environment as we use a standard image with standard applications etc. We have >paid for the DVD playback and writer software as part of the cost of the notebook surely so it's frustrating we can't use it! Why is this?
You paid for the notebook and for the *OEM version* (don't mix with full version) of different software (OS, WinDVD, etc..).
The mentioned programs and software is not Toshiba own product but it belongs to the 3rd party. This software can be used ONLY on your notebook.
So if Toshiba would allow this software for a download then everyone on this planet could download it and used it on different computers. And this is forbidden
Therefore the software is coupled with recovery CD
