Portege R500 - compatibility with Intel SSD 320 160GB

I have installed an Intel SSD 320 160GB in my Portege R500 (PPR50E).
However, the BIOS does not detect the new drive. I upgraded the BIOS to the 1.60WIN version , the newest one I found, but the drive is still not detected.
Is there any possible solution? Or I have to throw the drive away?
Thankyou for any help

Hi,
thankyou for your answers, but finally I got it.
Previously I tried to do it cloning the drive with Norton Ghost in another computer, but maybe I did not select a correct formatting of the drive, I'm not sure. The point was that it did not work. The Portege R500 said something as insert a drive to continue. And when I tried to start with a CD of Windows XP SP3 installation it said that there was no drive available for the installation.
Nevertheless, when I started with a Ubuntu CD I could access to the drive for reading, but no installation was possible.
Then, I upgraded the Portege BIOS, but it did not work.
Finally I found the Intel software for migration of SSD disk, and it was much easier. I followed the steps, it did the cloning (hopefully I had an external USB-ATA conversor to do it) and changed again the Toshiba drive to the SSD. Without much hope, I turned on the computer ... and it worked! Everything was OK, nothing was changed ... and as expected, it works much faster.

  • Intel SSD 320 Series Unreliability, Intel or OSX Lion at fault?

    Hi,
I have been using the Intel SSD 320 Series 160Gb SSD in a Quad Core iMac for a couple of months.
Its was running fine all through the Lion Beta program, but Monday evening, my iMac with OSX Lion locked up and I had to power off the system (that never happens to my Mac normally).
On rebooting, I got the flashing folder with a question mark, signifying no devices with a valid OS were detected
The following morning, I had to replace the SSD with a 1TB platter drive and restore my system (thank god for Time Machine).
Disk Utility repoerts the SSD as 8.4Mb in size (no, thats not a typo) and thinks the drive is unformatted.
This is very disappointing, so much for hoping SSD would be more reliable than mechanical drives
I loved the speed of the SSD, but this type of failure whether its Intel's fault or OSX causing this catestrophic failure I am still unsure, but either way its totally un-acceptable and has made me wary of wanting to try again with SSD!
    D.

To help future users searching, I have an update.
This appears to be a bug in the Intel 320 Series SSD drives which Intel have acknowledged.
I applaud them for owning up to the problem, but I am furious they let a product of this type get to market with a serious bug like this in the first place!!
If anyone is using one of these drives I suggest you make sure your Time Machine backups are running fine and are up-to-date and constantly check out the link below for a firmware update that at the time of writing has still not materialised.
Rest assured, you have a ticking time bomb on your hands!

  • Lenonvo T440 with Intel SSD SC2BF240A4L - failing to install apps via SCCM 2012 task sequence

    Hi there
Wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue with a T440 with Intel SSD hard disk.
Our firm purchased two Lenovo T440 laptops. One has a magnetic hard disk, the other a SSD hard disk. Here are the models:
    SSD hard disk:           Intel SSDSC2BF240A4L
    Magnetic hard disk:   500Gb 7200rpm HTS725050A7E635
We deploy our Windows 7 build via a SCCM 2012 task sequence.
Building the T440 with the magnetic hard disk was trouble free. I built it repeatedly, and encountered no errors; our core applications installed successfully every time and the task sequence completed successfully every time.
    All well and good.
Building the T440 with the Intel SSD hard disk has been frustrating. When I run the task sequence on this machine, 8 times out of 10 the task sequence will fail, either stopping abruplty at installing Oracle Single-Sign On or Appsense agents. When the task sequence fails it is ALWAYS at one of these two apps.
Frustratingly, sometimes the task sequence will complete successfully on this T440.
Given we successfully deploy this task sequence to a variety of different hardware from different vendors, including other Lenovo laptops, I can only guess the Intel SSD hard disk is the culprit.
Has anyone encountred anything like this? I've went through the smsts.log file and other SCCM log files and can find nothing obvious. That this ONLY happens on the T440 with the SSD suggests to me the issues lies in that direction.
I'll swap disks in either T440 to see if the other T440 fails also with the SSD aboard, to see what happens.
Meantime if anyone has any information about this issue I'd be grateful if you coud share.
    Thanks
    CT

Does the install provide any logging? Does execmgr.log show any other info?
Per the readme, it should be setup.exe.

  • X61s compatibility with intel 310 mSata

I've read that the X61s may not be compatible with Intel's 310 mSATA, but have been unable to determine if this is "fixable" with a Bios update. I would very much like to get an mSATA if it is compatible with this great machine.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I believe that there are some mini PCIe SSDs out there. Instead of being mSATA, like the 310, which is essentially SATA over a PCIe interface, these cards work like a mini PCIe card. This generally means that you cannot boot from one directly, because the system does not recognize it as a boot device. These are not that common and could be difficult to find. However, they work in any system that supports PCIe add in cards.

  • Apple sudio display 17-inch-compatability with intel power book

is this diplay compatable with the intel power books (graphics cards etc), if there is a possibility, whats connections need to be made?

Thank you, I took it to the Apple store and the genius guy has seen the issue before, I only had to show him one photo and he was on it. Apparently he has booked it in to get the Motherboard or Logic board as Apple call it replaced under warranty.

  • Is MS Office 2001 compatable with intel Macs?

I know Office 2004 works via Rosetta but will the older version work?

I’m going to have to disagree with Peter. I believe Office v.X was the first version to run natively in OSX (I’m using it and it runs very well.)
Office 2001 ran in classic and therefore is not compatible with intel machines- Not 100% sure but if I understand this correctly.... <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272642>

  • Intel SSD 320 Series 8 MB Bug neue Firmware?

    Hallo,
    http://support.lenovo.com/in/hi/documents/ht074473
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420-SSD-8MB-Error-on-Current-4PC1LE04-Firm...
Ich habe schon den telefonischen Lenovo Support angerufen, aber die konnten mir nicht weiter helfen.
Wo bekomme ich jetzt die neue Firmware LE06 her?
    SSD Modell: SSDSA2BW160G3L
    Notebook: T420s

  • Windows 7 x64 compatibility with 256GB SSD?

I'm planning on purchasing a new MacBook Pro 15" with a 256GB solid state drive (as offered on Apple's site; not 3rd-party). I'll need to dual-boot both OSX and Windows 7 x64. Are there any compatibility problems in Windows 7 x64 pertaining to the 256GB SSD? I want to ensure that BootCamp and/or Windows 7 will recognize the SSD correctly.

Glancing at the results from the search you posted, only one pertains to the MBPs released in mid-2010, and that user says that his 13" (not 15") MPB's BootCamp worked okay with the stock SSD from Apple. In fact, he suggests that Apple may have blocked support for 3rd-party SSDs.
A quick Google search (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=site:www.xlr8yourmac.comssd+%22windows7%22) of xlr8yourmac.com doesn't show any results pertaining to the mid-2010 15" MPBs, either.
Searching all xlr8yourmac.com posts pertaining to SSD hard drives doesn't yield any 2010 posts pertaining to Windows 7, either.
So why do you suggest I go with a 3rd-party drive?

  • Software compatibility with Intel iMac

I know it's rather early in the game, as it were, but does anyone know if Appleworks comes bundled with the new Intel iMacs. I don't see it listed, but could this be an oversight? Or is Apple getting away from it? I have used it for quite some time and I have many documents in Appleworks, but have no idea what I'd do with them if I got a new Intel iMac--sure, convert them, but to what? I don't look forward to having to "tweak" each doc, as I have had to do in the past when converting from one program to another . . . . Anyone know?

Not yet. Peggy, one of the Appleworks mavens here, is at macworld and is going to try to find out for us.

  • Portege R500-11K with UMTS/HSDPA/EDGE/GPRS module XP drivers

    Hi everyone,
I have some pre-sales question about nice R500-11K notebook.
I would like to install XP pro on this machine. Device is shipped withou XP recovery CD. (model 11C has it)
There is nice collection of XP drivers for R500, so I can install XP manually.
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU&mode=allMachi nes&action=search&teddProduct=747
Model 11K has unlike another models UMTS/HSDPA/EDGE/GPRS module installed. Great!
What about drivers for this module?
There is no any UMTS/HSDPA/EDGE/GPRS modem drivers listed In the device drivers list neither for Vista or for XP.
So question is, if I want to manually install XP, where I can find the driver for 3G module?
Is the driver component of another driver?
Do anybody know the name and type of this 3G module? I believe module is provided by aint Toshiba vendor.
Do anyone have any experience with XP on R500 11K?
    Thank You
    Marek

    Hmm you are right.
The 3G driver is not available on the Toshiba page
Seems the driver was not uploaded however the Portg R500 was delivered with a *Novatel MSM6275* ThreeG card (Qualcomm should be chip manufacture) and if you want you could try to download the driver from 3rd party site.
    Good luck

  • W510 type 4876-A11 With Intel SSD 520 Series BSOD

    Hi lenovo community,
    please help regarding this issue.
I took out the SSD from another computer which has never failed me.
I swap into thinkpad W510, and format and re-install windows 7 HomePremium . Keep getting Blue screen of death.
    Tried win7 Professional, BSOD also.
Swap a hard disk into the w510, no issues.
Put the SSD into another computer, no issues.
    W510 bios updated to latest.
SSD firmware update to latest 400i.
    please help.
should i call thinkpad service hotline? It's still under on-site warranty.
    seems like a compactibility issue.

    Welcome to Lenovo Community! Terryhoho
Go to Control Panel > Lenovo - Airbag Protection > Uncheck Enable Active Protection System. (Check only when you are using HDD and not SSD) SSD does not require Active Protection System as it does not contain mechanical parts.
    http://www.jdhodges.com/blog/tip-shock-protection-unnecessary-if-you-have-a-ssd/
If the step above does not resolve your issue.
    1. What source do you use to reformat? Windows 7 Original DVD (Clean Install), Lenovo Recovery Disk or others?
    2. If you install using Windows 7 Original DVD, download and install System Update. (If Recovery Disk, can skip this step as it's preinstalled in the image)
    3. Download and install the latest Intel Chipset driver.
    4. Go to Control Panel > Lenovo - Update and drivers > Install Critical and Recommended Updates, up to you for optional updates.

  • Adobe software - compatibility with intel Macs

I've just bought a new iMac and hoped to be able to run my elderly Adobe software (InDesign 2 & Photoshop 7). I have enabled Rosetta but when trying to install both programs (from the original discs) it made reference to Classic (which I thought was only used to run programs that were native to OS 9). Needless to say, Photoshop did install but crashes every time I launch while InDesign fails to install at all. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any way around it? Or do I have to buy new Adobe software. PS: I have successfully installed and are using, Microsoft Office from 2003.

I am coming from the PC land, I puchased a IMAC QUAD 7 with lots 8 gigs of memory. I tried to install photoshop essentials I think 6 for the Mac it came with a new touchpad. It would not work it crashed immediatly. I installed Photoshop c4 extended, trial version for the Mac it works just fine its problem unlike extended for PC is not 64 bit It only sees 4 of the 8 gigs of memory. It works justfine. It can not open as many pictures at same time but I can only work n one at a time. I am also running Windows 7 64 bit with fusin ware 3. Windows works quiet well. You may be able to run your older photoshop( I believe they came with both Windows and Apple versions) Inside of your apple, fusion and say windows xp are less than photoshop. Just a thought.

  • ProTools 6 or 7 compatibility with Intel-Based macs

I've heard people saying that ProTools LE 6 does not support Intel Core 2 Duo iMacs. Is that true?

First off the question was about the LE edition not HD. Second of all the link your provide is not for a Universal edition update.
    Clearly states the following:
    * This update contains no new features from version 7.2, and will not function or install on PowerPC-based Macintosh or Windows-based computers.
The reason I sent the link is so the poster could determine specs for themselves and take appropriate action.
    Version 6 LE

  • X220 with Intel Series 310 80 GB mSATA SSD (How do you get Win 7 to see drive

    Hi Everyone,
I am the proud owner of a new x220 with the following spec:
    * i7 2.70GHz

    * Bios version 1.21

    1. If I hit F12 on boot up the drive is available.
    2. Running Lenovo Think Vantage Tool Box and it sees the Intel SSDMAEMC080G2 drive...
The question I have is that windows does not see this as a drive from my computer..ect.  My question is how to I get Win 7 to see this drive so I can move my win 7 to it and set as a the boot drive.
What step am I missing???  Thanks everyone for your help!!!
    Chris

    Hi, guys
If you whant to use the msata drive as the 2nd drive in the system you've to initialize it.
For making it bootable the are seveal methods. I've used the next two:
    1. I used Intel Data Migration Software tool (based on Acronis technology) to transfer all image from the stock hdd to the new Intel SSD drive 320 Series (120 gb). At this moment the new drive was plased into the external usb box. Then I've booted from the new drive and resized the partitions using the Disk Management applet.
    2. The second method is to use the factory recovery media (USB stick in my case). I did that for the new msata SSD drive (non Intel 128 gb). Insert the new drive, boot from the usb stick, fully recover, reboot into the bios setup, change the boot priority for the new drive, reboot from the new drive, resize the partitions and delete the Lenovo_recovery partition on the new drive. I'm sure the cloning tool will work for msata too.
No actions were carried out with the SSD drives (I mean initializing, partioning...) before data migrating in both cases.

  • Portege R500 and Toshiba Optical Tilt-Wheel Mouse

    Hello,
I have a problem with my Portege R500 combined with my Toshiba Optical Tilt-Wheel Mouse. I use Win XP Pro SP2.
During notebook usage the mouse will be disconnected. If I plug out the mouse and plug in another USB port, I can use the mouse for a while, but it halts not longer.
Later comes the same problem, but a reconnect to another USB port doesnt work.
I use the original driver of Microsoft win xp.
    Bye hoody

Did you receive the special XP driver together with this mouse?
    If yes then install it.
But from my knowledge its common USB mouse which should use a plugn play device
So possibly you should check the USB settings.
Go to the device manger and open the USB bus controller tree
There you should mark the single USB root hubs and should select properties.
In the power management tab disable the function Allow the computer to turn off this device
Furthermore I recommend updating the XP to the latest state; I mean all hotfixes and patches should be installed!!
    Good luck
