Portege R500 - Question about SSD Connector

Hello,
Can somebody tell me what connector is on the SSD's of a R500?
It is NOT a standard ZIF connector...
I have a broken r500 laptop and would like to extract the data from it that is still on there.
Is there any convertor I can buy?
Thank you

As far as I know SSDs have the same connector as all other SATA HDDs used in notebooks.
You can buy external HDD case for SATA HDDs and connect your HDD to some other notebook as external one. So you will have access to your data.

  • Question about SSD for T61 with Linux.

Hi, I am considering purchasing a T61 with SUSE linux installed.  I had a question regarding the customization process for this laptop.  The option for adding the 64GB SSD for this laptop is not available when configuring the custom options, but it is available when customizing the Windows version.  Will Lenovo give me the option of having the SSD with the Linux configuration?
Thanks for any help in advance.

    Hi
I do not have this Portege but I know that Toshiba recovery image (WXP) contains driver for external ODD and the installation can be done without any problem.
Maybe you can find some useful tips under http://newsletter.toshiba-tro.de/main/index.html

  • Question about SSD space? And BootCamp?

Ok, so I installed BootCamp a while ago because I wanted to have a Windows partition and to play games and such on my MacBook Air (2012). The game I wanted to play is relatively large; about 23 GB + or - a few gigs, and I knew that I should include some extra space in there for updates and other stuff. So, I put about 30GB on the partition. When I went on it, there was only like 10GB free!!! So, I kept increasing and increasing until now, I have a like 48.5 GB partition to hold a 23 GB game with only 7.3 GB free. So:
    1) Where did all of the rest of the storage space go?!
    2) I noticed I think 10 GB or so is in the "Windows" folder. Can I compress this? Will it damage/mess up the Windows Partition? I want to free up some space, but I don't want to break anything.
    3) Can I REMOVE a few gigs from the Windows partition, or do I have to start over? If I start over, will I have to redownload my game and all that?
    Section 2
I have a 128 GB SSD MacBook Air. I thought that it would be plenty of room. However, I just got a new iPhone, and within a month and a half, I have taken over 2,100 pictures, which takes up numerous GB. So, if I want to back up my iPhone and iPod and all that, I will need a lot of space on my computer. However, I have a Windows partition taking up about 48.5 GB as I remember, so that's about 40% of the entire amount of space on my computer. So, I had a 72 GB portion or so on my Mac side. I thought that this would be enough, but I somehow only have like 28 GB left. If I keep taking pictures, want to back up things, get apps, etc., I would like to free up/add space. So:
    1) I know this sounds stupid (I thought I was good with computers and Apple technology, but I just wanted to make sure) ... but is there any way to permanantly add extra SSD space onto my Mac? Because there's the option to upgrade your Mac to like 256 GB which would be awesome, but as far as I know, this is only online, with the more expensive version of the 13" MacBook Air, and I don't know if you can do this with the computer already bought and installed and all that. So, is there any way to add space? Like not free up space, but ADD it?
    2) How does the whole Time Machine/ Pass port thing work? If I transferred 10 GB of stuff to Passport or whatever, (1st of all, is it a USB?) if I plugged it in to my computer, could I easily transfer stuff back and forth? Would it take a while?
         i) If I had a game on my computer, happened to have Passport or something, and transferred the files to Passport... (this will be a long question) once I plug in the Passport, could I launch the game? Or would I have to transfer the files back to the desktop...
           a) Basically, what I'm getting at is... If I had a game's files on Passport / Time Machine / whatever it is called, if I had it plugged in to my computer, would I have to transfer files to the computer to launch/play a game, or could I just play it by putting in thing..
    3) If there is a way to increase the space to 256 GB or so, how much would this cost? How long would it take?
I am so sorry about all of my confusing questions, but I just want to ask a bunch at once so I can set things straight in my mind xD
    Please help! Thanks so much!

OWC have SSD upgrades for an Air and you need more space, look here:

  • Question about MagSafe connector disconnecting

Hi there, I`m a new user of Mac, and I have, of course, a stupid question.
Before, I`v disconnect my MS connector (T connector), straight, pulling straight to back, for a couple of times. NOT from the DC cord, but from the connector, but I did not know I have to tilting up, down, left or right. this was just for couple of times, I remind you.
It was something wrong? Apple don`t say is wrong or not, they say nothing refer to this.
So, I did it wrong, something is happening, something inside the MBP? It was pulling, disconnecting hard, but was out after a short while
So i need an answer, and I promise from now I`m gonna tilting!
Message was edited by: Dorin Andreescu for update title

    Dorin,
You haven't done anything wrong, your MB is OK. The connector is magnetically attached so tilting just makes it easier to break the magnetic connection.
Don't pull on the DC cord because that will eventually weaken or break the wire inside the cord.

  • Portege P7220: Question about SymEvent

I have a Portege P7220, bought 2001, with Win2000. I tried to upgrade to XP, using the PCMCIA CD-drive that I bought from Toshiba with the computer.
    1. During early stages of installation, it told me that I didn't have a CD drive installed, with some info about "SCSI" which i didn't understand, and it aborted the XP installation.
    2. So I restarted Win2000, and got a dialog box with title "NAV Autoprotect" and message "Unable to start SymEvent". If I dismiss the dialog box, the system apparently works.
Should I be worried about the warning dialog box? Any way round the problem I met when trying to install XP? Would appreciate advice.
    David

Well, I found that "SymEvent" belongs to an old installation of Norton Antivirus, which I've got rid of. But I havent found a solution to the problem of XP Setup not recognising the external CD drive.

  • Elitepad 900 Charging difficulties and a question about the connector

    Hi.
I have an ElitePad 900 running Windows 8.1 Pro.
The unit was a demonstrator model but came with warranty etc.  I am having a lot of difficulty charging the unit.  The power unit end is fine but the piece that goes into the Elitepad is not all that firm - I have to get the thing it the slot "just so" and then put it down very carefully so that it maintains contact.  Also, it frequently stays connected, and advises that it is plugged in but says it is not charging.  Why would it do that - surely if it knows it's plugged in and the battery needs charging it should just do it, not sit idle.
Any ideas on how to make this work better?
Second, I have a Connector that came with it.  It has a piece that goes intot he Elitepad on one end and at the other end it has a slot for a USB cable.  I assume this is to transfer stuff from external drives and cameras etc.  Will it also transfer files from my Laptop if I buy a USB/USB cable?  Seems simple enough to me but I'm wondering why it didn't come with one if it is needed to connect to a laptop.
    thanks
    Hoges

Okay, I have determined that it is an optical output. What I want to know now is how I can convert that to a stereo output.

  • Question about SSD speed rMBP 13" 2015

I think I read somewhere that the 128GB SSD included with the base configuration of the recently refreshed 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display is slower (in terms of read/write speed) than the other, higher capacity drives that are configurable. Could this possibly be true?

More chips = more paths to read and write from simultaneously, big SSD's are made up of a larger number of smaller chips.

  • Question about SSD and OS X applications installer

Well I decided to make use of an SSD which is kind of nice.. except.. there are many applications which won't install onto my HDD.. like Microsoft Office. The installer will only let it install onto my SSD.. which isn't going to work. There's not enough room for every app on my SSD. What I'd like to know is what is up with this.. and can I terminalize something or anything to get around this limitation?

Yes, but you first need to erase the drive and be sure it's partitioned properly:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    Now clone:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4.Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    Destination means the second drive.
Source means the internal startup drive.

  • [SOLVED] Question About SSD Alignment (Do I Have to Reinstall?)

I purchased a Crucial M4 (256GB) and I put a lot of work into this install, it's set up really nice. But I came across the Arch Wiki and SSD alignment. I don't really understand what the article says, but I did add the noatime and discard flags as it suggested. What I don't understand in particular is if I have to wipe and reinstall Arch in order to use gdisk to align my partitions. I'd rather not reinstall if I don't have to.

  • Portege 3010ct: Question about USB drivers under W2k

Can somebody point me in the direction of the Windows 2000 drivers for the Portege 3010CT USB port? I can only find Win 95 and 98 and these don't seem to work.
    Many thanks,
    Adam

    Hi
Usually its not necessary to install any extra USB drivers for W2k or WinXP.
I have read on some websites that sometimes the service packs update will solve the driver problems. You should check if you have installed all SP for W2k.
I have also found this site:
    http://www.usb-drivers.com/companies/667.htm
    You should check it.

  • Portege 7200 - question about DVD device

Please can you tell me if I can save to my laptop. I purchased it secondhand - it has a floppy disk drive and a DVD Player - I have tried saving to dvd but now understand it to be a player only - I have also tried putting in floppy disks but error message comes up saying disks are not formatted - but they are a mixture of new and old disks (all from the same box). Does this mean the drive is broken? Many thanks.
I have been told I can get a separate dvd rewrite drive but new is expensive - would it be possible to purchase a secondhand one? If so do you have any suggestions of where I can look.
    Many thanks again!
    Teresa

    Hi,
the Floppy disk failure means that your Floppy disks are not formatted, thus have no needed filesystem on it!
Insert the Floppy disk, make a right mouse click at Floppy drive a: at the Explorer and choose "Format".
Then follow the menu! After formatting the disk you can use it!
DVD Drive: Like you said you have only a DVD "reading" Drive! Only the new DVD Writer are able to write on a special Medium called DVD-R, DVD-RW or DVD+R, DVD+RW.
These DVD Writers for Notebooks are expensiver than for Dektops! But at these link you can inform yourself which drive is suitable at and fit in your machine and how expensive an upgrade will be!

  • Re: Win XP Installation on Portege R500 12Q

    Hi,
I would like to install Microsoft Win XP on my Portege R500 12Q (128GB SSD drive)
If I start the installation from CD, there is normally the possibilety to install a third party driver through pressing F6. But the problem is, that nothing happens if I press F6 in this moment (tried out more than once).
Ok if I wait i get the possibilety to specify the mass storage because installation program did not found any. If I want to install the drivers now, the only possibilety is to instal it from Drive A: (Floppy) but I dont have a floppy drive.
Over all I did not found the SSD- Driver at the Hompage but I think it is included in the Matrix Storage Manager, isn't it?
Is it really that difficult to install Win XP on a SSD? Please help me.
    Thanks in advance.
    greetings
    Stefan

    > Ok if I wait i get the possibility to specify the mass storage because installation program did not found any. If I want to install the drivers now, the only possibility is to install it from Drive A: (Floppy) but I dont have a floppy drive.
If you want to include the SATA driver using the F6 option then you HAVE TO USE the floppy disk drive. But if you dont have a USB floppy disk drive then you could use the software called nLite to include the SATA drivers into the new created XP CD.
The SATA driver is a part of the Intel Storage Manger and you can download if from here:
    [Intel Storage Manger 32-bit Floppy Configuration Utility (201KB) 8.6.0.1007 |http://downloadcenter.intel.com/download.aspx?url=/17061/eng/f6flpy3286.zip&DwnldId=17061&ProductID=2101&lang=e ng ]
For details about nLite search in the internet!
    > If I change the setting again in the bios I always get a blue screen, but I can not install the Matrix driver (SSD) as long as I dont change the setting and I think I dont use the possible speed of the SSD.
This is clear. You will get always a BSOD if you would change the SATA mode in the BIOS after installation of any OS. If you have installed the OS you cannot change the SATA mode in the BIOS.
But if you would like to change it again then you will have to install the OS again using the SATA drivers

  • Portege R500 - Can I change the SSD?

Hi. Have issue of replacing, replace ssd.
I got PORTEGE R500 (version PPR50U-02M01W) with SAMSUNG_MCCOE64GQMPQ_SE805B0137. It has only 64 GB.
I contacted Toshiba service asking to replace with something bigger, they said it's impossible! HOW SO? It should be possible to replace 64GB SSD to 256GB SSD!
If somebody can give me the link to SSD, which gonna fit 100% in my existing ssd will be very thankful!

Technical guys said for my model (I gave part.nr. serial.nr.) it is impossible to replace existing ssd with larger ssd!
I asked, how much it gonna be USD to replace lets say 128 GB or 256 GB.
I contacted with local Toshiba service in my country .
No problems with the service so far, execpt one stupid question after all fixes lady is calling in NON-OFFICIAL language and asks how was the service.
Hate that otherwise perfect Toshiba service.
And also in this case they said IMPOSSIBLE Toshiba service can not offer for this model larger ssd.
This is funny also for me. Because in ebay it's easy to find any kinds of ssd evn 1.8 inch.
I just dont want to buy something, which does not 100% fit in.

  • Basic questions about Notes domino connector

    Hi,
I have a very basic question about the Lotus Domino connector for OIM. We have a requirement to provision accounts into the domino mail server and while doing that also update some information directly into a separate nsf file.
I checked the documentation and it seems while configuring an IT resource, we need to give the Mail DB path, and thats the only place where it refers to it.
Could you guys please let me know if this can be done? Can I write directly to a different nsf file, which is not like provisioning to the complete mail server. So the other attributes in the IT resource may not be able to be set up as its just the file I need to provision into.
    Looking forward to your response.
    Thanks, M
