Portege R500/Vista - why SQL Server installed?
Why does the Portege R500 (with Vista) come with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 pre-installed?
Is this a Toshiba idea or something to do with Vista?
I have just been through and removed all the pre-installed MS Office components, and it appears that "SQL Server 2005 Express" is installed with "Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007". Uninstalling Business Contact Manager also offers to remove SQL Server.

HI VC gurus,
I am new to VC.Can anyone explain me why SQL server is needed for VC.Can we use some other Database other than SQL server like Oracle etc..
Please clarify.Hi Sapient,
VC 6.0 uses MS SQL server to act as a model repository for VC, that means whatever models are created using VC 6.0, on click of Save button at the menu bar, the model gets reposited in MS SQL.
Only MS SL Server is to be used if you are using VC 6.0 as a model repository, but you can talk to any back-end through portal Connectivity.

Why sql sERVER products are so frustratingly complicated to install???
Dear Ms Team,
I found MS SQL Server products are frustrating, complex and difficult while installing.
As per my experience , installing SQL sever need to follow some experts tips.
During installation it will ask for sp1 need to install first, Powershell, >net framework.. blah blah blah......
Why don't u packed the whole compnts in single setup or download automatically thru online.
Except SQLserver 2005 Express edition , none of the other types are easy to install.
Even some people need to format the system to reinstall SQL server.
Currently I am trying to install SQLSever2014 in my Win8.1 32 system, Installation completed successfully but now after clicking SQL Management studio is not working at all.
Error Mess can't find one or more components, Please reinstall.
After trying reinstall doesn't work. Dear Team why this complexity???
SQLEXPR_x86_ENU
SQLEXPR32_x86_ENU.exe
EVEN IF i TRY INSTALLINg SQlserver management Studio 2008R2, It doesn't allow to install stating blah blah again.
Services for SQL server and Browser are running but anable to Open Mgmt studio.

Hello,
I am Manikumar, I am using Windows 8 Pro edition and i want install SQL Server 2012 RTM Version in my pc so my system configuration ,i have mentioned below
Processor: AMD Althon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor
RAM: 1 gb
System Type : 32 bit os
So I just want to know ,what are prerequisites and how to installations process, please tell me.I wnat to install immediately.
Thank YouHello,
If your computer only has 1 GB of RAM, I don’t recommend you to try to install SQL Server 2012. SQL Server 2012. SQL Server 2012 Express Edition requires a minimum 512 MB and all other paid editions require 1 GB minimum, that is without mention the memory Windows
8 requires. Windows 8 requires 1 GB.
Bottom line is you need to upgrade your computer to 1.5 GB at minimum if you would like to upgrade to SQL Server 2012 Express Edition, for other versions of SQL
Server 2012 you need to upgrade that computer to 2.0 GB of RAM.
Hope this helps.

Installed Azure VM From gallary with Sql Server 2012, even after allowing 1433 port through firewall, still cant get access to Sql Server from outside vm, So please provide steps for getting exact ServerName for connecting Sql Server on VM for connecting
from Visual Studio Application.
Thanks.Hi,
You can check the DNS name of the VM in the VM instance page of the Azure management portal.
In addition, you can also refer to the third-party article below:

Connectivity Issue with Vista and SQL Server 2005
Hi all;
I am unable to log into SQL Server 2005 due to a connectivity problem.
When I telnet on the port for the server, the attempt at a connection fails.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should do?
THANKS!!!

Portege R500 Vista: Intel WLan 4965AGN has encountered internal error
Wireless works fine when it works, but keeps breaking, leaving thousands (literally - over 35,000 in the last 24 hrs) of messages in the event viewer log simply saying: "Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN : Has encountered an internal error and has failed." and the link to Microsoft help just says no help on this topic.
Reboot fixes the problem. Anyone have any ideas?
ThanksHi
I really do not have idea what is wrong there but try to install the driver again.
By the way: do you use windows WLAN configuration or you use Intel PROSet client? -

Instead of installing SQL server instance you selected add node which is to be selected when SQL server installation is to be made on Node which is being added to cluster. Since your OS is not clustered I am sure you selected worng option.
Please right click on setup file and select run as administrator. Now installation window which pops up on that on left hand side select
installation and then on page that appears select 'New server standalone installation or add feature to existing installation'.
You already have SQL server 2008 installed on your machine as per feature discovery report

My TechNet Wiki Articles -
Summary: DSC fails to fully install the SQL Server 2012 Failover Cluster, but the identical code snippet below run in powershell ise with administrator credentials works perfectly as does running the SQL server install interface.
In order to develop DSC configurations, I have set up a Windows Server 2012 R2 failover cluster in VMware Workstation v10 consisting of 3 nodes. All have the same Windows Server 2012 version and have been fully patched via Microsoft Updates.
The cluster properly fails over on command and the cluster validates. Powershell 4.0 is being used as installed in windows.
PDC
Node1
Node2
The DSC script builds up the parameters to setup.exe for SQL Server. Here is the cmd that gets built...
$cmd2 = "C:\SOFTWARE\SQL\Setup.exe /Q /ACTION=InstallFailoverCluster /INSTANCENAME=MSSQLSERVER /INSTANCEID=MSSQLSERVER /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /UpdateEnabled=false /IndicateProgress=false /FEATURES=SQLEngine,FullText,SSMS,ADV_SSMS,BIDS,IS,BC,CONN,BOL /SECURITYMODE=SQL /SAPWD=password#1 /SQLSVCACCOUNT=SAASLAB1\sql_services /SQLSVCPASSWORD=password#1 /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS=`"SAASLAB1\sql_admin`" `"SAASLAB1\sql_services`" `"SAASLAB1\cubara01`" /AGTSVCACCOUNT=SAASLAB1\sql_services /AGTSVCPASSWORD=password#1 /ISSVCACCOUNT=SAASLAB1\sql_services /ISSVCPASSWORD=password#1 /ISSVCSTARTUPTYPE=Automatic /FAILOVERCLUSTERDISKS=MountRoot /FAILOVERCLUSTERGROUP='SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' /FAILOVERCLUSTERNETWORKNAME=SQLClusterLab1 /FAILOVERCLUSTERIPADDRESSES=`"IPv4;192.168.100.15;LAN;255.255.255.0`" /INSTALLSQLDATADIR=M:\SAN\SQLData\MSSQLSERVER /SQLUSERDBDIR=M:\SAN\SQLData\MSSQLSERVER /SQLUSERDBLOGDIR=M:\SAN\SQLLogs\MSSQLSERVER /SQLTEMPDBDIR=M:\SAN\SQLTempDB\MSSQLSERVER /SQLTEMPDBLOGDIR=M:\SAN\SQLTempDB\MSSQLSERVER /SQLBACKUPDIR=M:\SAN\Backups\MSSQLSERVER > C:\Logs\sqlInstall-log.txt "
Invoke-Expression $cmd2
When I run this specific command in Powershell ISE running as administrator, logged in as domain account that is in the Node1's administrators group and has domain administrative authority, it works perfectly fine and sets up the initial node properly.
When I use the EXACT SAME code above pasted into my custom DSC resource, as a test with a known successful install, run with the same user as above, it does NOT completely install the cluster properly. It still installs 17 applications
related to SQL Server and seems to properly configure everything except the cluster. The Failover Cluster Manager shows that the SQL Server Role will not come on line and the SQL Server Agent Role is not created.
The code is run on Node1 so the setup folder is local to Node1.
The ConfigurationFile.ini files for the two types of installs are identical.
Summary.txt does have issues..

It feels like this is a security issue with DSC or an issue with the setup in SQL Server, but please note I have granted administrators group and domain administrators authority. The nodes were built with the same login. Windows firewall
is completely disabled.
Please let me know if any more detail is required.Hi Lydia,
Thanks for your interest and help.
I tried "Option 3 (recommended)" and that did not help.
The issue I encounter with the fail-over cluster only occurs when trying to install with DSC!
Using the SQL Server Install wizard, Command Prompt and even in Powershell by invoking the setup.exe all work perfectly.
So, to reiterate, this issue only occurs while running in the context of DSC.
I am using the same domain login with Domain Admin Security and locally the account has Administrators group credentials. The SQL Server Service account also has Administrators Group Credentials. -
Error trying to install ICM 8.0 - "FAILED TO GET SQL SERVER VERSION."
Hello guys, i tried to install ICM 8.0 but when i click on Setup.exe appears this error:
"FAILED TO GET SQL SERVER VERSION. MAKE SURE SQL SERVER INSTALLED PROPERLLY
NO INSTANCE NAME FOUND.NO SCHEMA UPGRADES ATTEMPTED"
I try to check the SQL COnfiguration, about Named Pipes, but everything is allright. Someone knows what is it?
Thank you very much. You should be able to see the ICMSetup.log file somewhere - check TEMP. It seems to me that this is the first thing it does - tries to connect to the SQL database and ask for the version. Clearly it cannot. I assume you installed SQL OK, probably have the service running under a domain user created especially for the task, or the domain admin, and you are also logged in as the domain admin, and that SQL is running.
Check that log file for clues.

I am not able to install sql server 2008 r2 sp2
hi,
I have installed sql server 2008 r2 rtm and want to update to sp2 and have installed sp2 from microsoft website and then i installed CU1 for sp2. All installation did successfully but still it is not showing the updated version info.I am checking the
version info from Help>About. Please tell me what to do next?
Thanks and regards.Hello,
Please run the discovery report. Maybe you have more than one instance of SQL Server installed on that computer and you updated just one of them. Make sure you click to select all the instances shown on the “Select Features” page of SQL Server setup.

Install SQL Express With MDT 2012 now or wait for SCCM and full SQL Server?
We are planning to get SCCM 2012 R2 in several months and it will come with SQL Server 2012 when it is installed and configured at that time.
If we would like to start experimenting with using a database in MDT 2012 now, can we go ahead and set up a database in SQL Express and start using it for deployments now or should we wait for SQL server?
Can the database created in standalone MDT 2012 with SQL Express be migrated to SQL Server 2012 and SCCM 2012R2 or would we need to start over with a new database when we get SQL Server and SCCM?Using SQL Express should be fine. You can export the database from there and import it into a full SQL Server install later if you want to preserve the content.

We have SSIS installed on a machine that is not part of a cluster but it is accessible by the cluster.
Our job we have running on the cluster is failing with the following error:
Error: 2014-01-31 09:14:37.52 Code: 0xC000F427 Source: SCR - DP1 Connections
Description: To run a SSIS package outside of SQL Server Data Tools you must install SCR - DP1 Connections of Integration Services or higher. End Error
Any advice or information on how to resolve this would be great.
Many Thanks.Hi NessaBella,
Integration Services service is not a cluster-aware service, and does not support failover from one cluster node to another. Therefore, in a clustered environment, Integration Services should be installed and started as a stand-alone service on each node
in the cluster.
Based on the error message, it seems that SSIS is not installed on the cluster node on which the job was running. Although SSIS is installed on a machine that is not part of the cluster and can be accessed by each cluster node, the SSIS service installed
on a remote server cannot be used a cluster node. So, please install the shared feature SQL Server Integration Services on each cluster node. Besides, if certain packages need to run in 32-bit mode in certain jobs and the SQL Server installed is 64-bit version,
you also need to install BIDS/SSDT on the cluster node to get the 32-bit runtime of SSIS.

Any extra settings I need to make for Sql Server 2012 Install for the purpose of SP 2013
Hi,
I am going to install sql serevr 2012 Ent on a stand alone server Win 2012 box[ say Server2] and I want to make this machine as a db box and will make other box[say Server1] SharePoint box.
[ On Server1 where there is no sql server installed ].
Do I need to make any extra settings /any mappings/config entries in this box before I install sql on this Server2 box.
I mean, in terms of creation of a separate sql instance is required etc ....
In my prev.installations as a standalone SP install with sql installed on the same box.
I am facing issue with development with SP 2013. Because though I am having 16GB RAM in one of my dev machines, with the s/ws like VS 2012, SP D 2013 along with SP 2013 & SQL SEREVR 2012, the debugging is almost NOT
happening[ its taking "minutes" to hit a breakpoint] at all.
help is appreciated!
DasHI Shankar,Just to be sure with the following settings to configure sharepoint.
Ensure both boxes in same domain and network
ensure the connection \telnet is working.
to instal sharepoint, farm account should have below rights on sql DB.
db creator,securityadmin
