Portege R600-102: which SSD for upgrade?

Hello everybody.
I'd like to upgrade my SSD from the actual 128GB to a bigger one: which are the specs for the new SSD to work? Which interface does it need to have? Which physical dimensions?
Any help will be appreciated.
TIA,
Flavio.

Hi
I assume the SSD upgrade is the same like HDD upgrade.
The notebook support SATA controller You will need an SATA SSD drive.
The old SSD drive is 9.5mm height the new SSD drive should support the same height.
Since the SATA controller is not limited to any size, it should be possible to use SSD drives bigger than 128GB but there is still an question of BIOS support.
Unfortunately, its not known to me if the BIOS would support bigger SSD drives but usually this should be supported.

  • Which ssd for my macbook pro?

    Hi community.
I have a Macbook pro 13" model number A1278 which is now running 8gb of Kingston memeory and I was thinking of upgrading the drive to an ssd. I want to continue with the Kingston brand and would like to go pretty big in capacity, hopefully future proof as much as I can. Anyone tell me which one or maybe a website where can I go to get the right ssd for this particular model?
    Many thanks.

I know you said you're thinking of Kingston, but I really have to recommend OWC's SSDs:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/
I've been using a 120GB Electra for a while now and it's fantastic.  You'll find that their SSDs are very well reviewed, especially when it comes to their ability to maintain consistent speeds over their lifetime.  And as for future-proofing: they're all SATA3, and come in sizes up to 1TB.
Of course, if you want a Kingston, I'm sure you'll find one that meets your needs.  SSDreview.com has reviewed several of their drives in the past few months.

  • Which SSD for Macbook Pro 2011 Mavericks?

    Hi,
Can anyone advise me which SSD should I get to run my MBP 2011 (Mavericks)?
I am debating btw Samsung 840Pro and Crucial M500 (250GB). I have read that Samsung 840Evo is not "Mac friendly".
Based on UserBenchMark, I have to go for the Samsung (http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Samsung-840-Pro-256GB-vs-Crucial-M500-240GB /1408vs1551).
    Thanks!

Thanks Clinton - It really helps!
Last question. Cost wise Samsung 840Pro is 1/3 more expensive thant Crucial M500.
On a MBP early 2011 running Mavericks, am I going to see a 31% speed increase compare to the M500 (link below)?
I am not budget driven and happy to spend more if I have a better ROI.
    Thank you.

  • Satellite L300-22L - Which RAM for upgrade?

    Hello.
I have Satellite L300-22L notebook. Can you tell me which is the best RAM for my system in speed and capacity?

    Hi!
The Satellite L300-22L belongs to the PSLB8E series and is equipped with Intel GL40 chipset.
That means for upgrading the RAM you need modules with the specification DDR2 667MHz to a maximum of 4GB.
Theoretically you can buy modules with these specifications from every manufacture but I have good experience with Kingston modules. I use them always for upgrading my notebooks and never had problems.

    Hello.
    I have just ordered a MSI GE70 2OE-238UK and I'm very excited
The one I've ordered does not come with an SSD as I couldn't afford it.
Just wondering will any msata SSD fit into it as I will want to upgrade as soon as I have the money.

Excellent thanks! Is there some way You can confirm they have one for sure? I will go ahead and order it now If you can, Hopefully should arrive along with the laptop.
I know they have a single mSATA slot. I'm not sure if the newer GE70 20E has  mSATA slots or not. If you look at the assembly manual you can see that they have 1 marked, but there is a 2nd one located near the wireless card, but I'm not certain if that is an mSATA slot or not.

  • Which SSD for MP  1.1

Hi all, Hope you can advise me! I'm contemplating purchasing a SSD hard Drive to use as my system (O/S) boot drive. I'm running Snow Leopard !0.6.6. I think I have narrowed the choice down to the following two drives:-
The OCZ Technology 120GB Vertex 2 Series SATA-300 3.5" Solid State Drive (OCZSSD3-2VTX120G)
    http://www.dabs.com/products/ocz-technology-120gb-vertex-2-series-sata-300-3-5-- solid-state-drive--oczssd3-2vtx120g--75J6.html?refs=4294948431
    or
The Mercury Extreme™ Pro SSD 120GB
    SATA 3.0Gb/s Solid-State Drive
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/SSDMX120/
With the bracket required for the later and cost of delivery from the US factored in, the difference in price is roughly £20 ($32), The Mercury Extreme being the dearest based on today's exchange rate.
If you have experience or knowledge of either of these SSD's, I would appreciate your valued opinions regarding them.
    Regards Denis

I use 3 Intel SSD in my 2008 Mac Pro.
I think the most important things to consider are:
    1) match the speed with your other device media. You can have overkill which does not pay off. The intel 120 X25M reads at 250M/sec plus and writes at 105M/sec This matches up well with any other internal or external device. I don't raid so that would be a different story.
    2) Intel don't lose speed in time as the drive fills up
    3) highly reliable SSD
    4) the SSD 80 is good but its write speed is only 80M/sec
    5) if you use the two on board empty sata connectors on the mother board you can place two of them in the optical area and still leave your DVD burner there since its ATA.
    6) If you want a nice inexpensive tray for that optical then look at the Nexstar SE dual 2.5 inch 5.25 tray. Easy to install in the optical and holds either one or two SSD or 2.5 inch sata drives. You also get a nice blue light within the Mac Pro when the drives are connected to it. Cost is $17.00
    7) Also I do run SSD using bay number two. I did not buy any bracket or holder for it. I just use a plastic lock strap, just enough to hold it up but not enough pressure to disorient the SSD. Easy to do and cost is $1.59

  • Which SSD for x220

    Hi,
I'm planning on ordering an x220 pretty soon, but I'm not sure which one to pick. There's one at 128 GB that just says Solid state, and one at 160, from Intel. Now, how much difference is there (besides the 32 GB, obviously)?
Is it worth the extra money and more than 4 weeks shipping time?
    Thanks!

I've got x220 4290-CTO with Intel 320 Series SSD 120 Gb. It's the new model more fast and reliable then x-25 with 9,5 and 7 mm form factor (I've got the second one). The factory configuration of laptop was with Hitachi HDD which has been replaced by me. I've just transferred partitions, Windows system, applications and data using Intel Data Migration Software (based on Acronis sw) which works fine. Then I've tuned and optimized the SSD and system with Intel Toolbox as these operations are absolutelly needed. And NOTE - there aren't any POST delay issues in my laptop.
There are several guys at this forum who've fitted 9,5 mm disk w/o prolems they've claimed. As for me there is a little but solved problem with laptop case for fiiting 9,5 mm disk.
I guess the Factory Recovery disks can't build the new partitions clearly as the size of hdd and ssd is different. But I may be mistaken. For this reason I've used the special Intel sw.
I assume also that 160 Gb SSD, factory installed in new x220, isn't an Intel 320 Series as this disk is new and more cost expensive.
Why to wait 4 weeks and to pay expensive price while good result can be reached by yourself, faster and more cheaply?

  • Which SSD for T440p (2014)?

    Hey guys,
I have a couple of question and would appreciate if someone could help me out.
    1) I've bought a ThinkPad T440p and would like to upgrade the 500 GB HDD with a SSD. When buying the SSD, are there any compatibility considerations? I'm looking to buy Intel SSD 530 (https://www.mimovrste.com/diski/intel-25-ssd-530-480gb-sataiii-ssdsc2bw480a401).
    2) Before installing the SSD, should I change anything in the BIOS?
    3) Where can I buy an original ultrabay for this model (I want to keep the 500 GB HDD as my 2nd disk)? I see a few aftermarket options on eBay and Amazon, but I'd like to have the original, so the performance and quality will be OK.
    Thank you!

Didn't you miss Intel RST and SRT (Smart Response Technology), Rapid Storage Technology's caching feature?
iRST is usefull feature on systems with OS installed on SSD too.
The quote from the Intel RST UGl:
"Intel Rapid Start Technology enables your system to get up and running faster from even the deepest sleep, saving time and power consumption." iRST and SSD don't contradict each other.
You can enable RST feature at any time. Enable that one in BIOS setup menu and create hibernation partition on SSD using diskpart.exe tool and Intel sw. Refer the short helpful Intel RST UG.

  • Which SSD for Mac Pro 2006 1,1

    Hey guys,
I've done a lot of research the past couple days and I think I got a decent amount of knowledge but before I purchase I wanted to ask your opinions.
I have a Mac Pro 2006 with the original hard drives in it and I'm looking to speed it up. I see SSDs are now a lot more affordable so I gotta take advantage.
I use my computer for making music and recording but I do hip hop music, not live music or bands so I don't have to record a lot of tracks at once I just want to speed things up. Plus help my software move a little faster when I make beats.
I'm looking to get a SSD as my boot drive and I want around 250gb to be safe so I narrowed it down to these three:
    Intel 730
    http://www.amazon.com/Intel-SERIES-2-5-Inch-Internal-SSDSC2BP240G4R5/dp/B00IF4NG EU/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2Y5691XAL3WET
    Crucial MX100
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KFAGCWK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1& smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
    Samsung 840 EVO
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E3W1726/ref=gno_cart_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s mid=A19W1SYPKVVBJO
I read that there are better/faster SSDs out there but can my old 2006 Mac Pro even make use of better/faster drives speed? Are any of the 3 I've picked reliable enough to feel comfortable purchasing?
I still don't understand what TRIM is exactly, can someone help me with that? I'm gonna go look it up now but just wondered about that specifically with these 3 drives...
I'm also going with a Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB drive for the data... Is that overkill for my 2006 machine? Will I even notice a difference in speed with this Caviar Black as opposed to maybe the Blue or Green drive?
I appreciate the time guys! Thanks so much I'm excited to get my Mac Pro moving like my MacBook Pro with its 300gb SSD

An SSD is probably the best bang-4-buck improvement in performance, and today's are far better than 4 years ago (and avoid all the pitfalls of the early SATA III models).
The larger the SSD, the more "pipes" or channels, and you want to aim for 50% free, you need TRIM to be enabled, and yes you will notice.
Then you want to clone the SSD and have a system restore image that you can boot from and to run Disk Utility repair so that "trimming' is performed.
Sometimes you want to research when you buy one and get it delivered and check to see if there are firmware update for it for your Mac.
I could never go back and be satisfied with even a 10K drive though that can come close - almost - but with a lot of chatter noise.
The 2TB drive will do well. Now make sure to backup, use TimeMachine, and invest in drives and software to clone those. You could use 2-3TB WD Green for those depending on how much data and full that 2TB will be.

  • Satego X200-21D - Which RAM for upgrade?

    Hello,
I have a Satego X200-21D, Modell Nr. : PSPBEE-007001GR and I want to upgrade my memory from 2*1 GB to 2*2GB. Can I use DDR2 memory with support for DDR2 PC2-6400 or DDR2 PC2-5300 speed?
    Thanks
    wolfgang

    Hi
I have checked the specifications of Satego X200-21D and it seems that you only need DDR PC2-5300 at least but you can also buy PC2-6400 modules because they are downgrade compatible. That means they would run with PC2-5300 speed but thats no problem.
Make only sure that you buy high quality modules, e. g. Kingston. Alternative you can order RAM modules from an authorized service provider, the part number for 2GB is PA3513U-1M2G

    I reviewed the thread below....
    Add SSD to dv9700
so it's no wonder I was not able to install an OCX Agility 3 SSD - it was not recognized.
The OCZ techs said the drive like does not support the older SATA version and that I needed to install an older SSD that was back on the 1.5 gig standard.
Can anyone tell me what SSDs are likely to be compatible ? Also, do I need to update the BIOS to f31. Right now I'm on f30.

    Hi joeb52,
I would like to help you identify what SSD would be compatible. Can you provide me with your product number?
I will be able to find information specific to your model with the product number.

  • Portege R30 won't boot from SSD after upgrade to SSD and HDD under CSM mode

    Hi
I upgraded my Portege R30-ASMBN22 to SSD (Crucial M550) and replace the optical drive by the original HDD with caddy.
In order to install Windows 7, I change the BIOS to CSM mode. But now the system won't boot automatically from the SSD. It only boot from HDD which is in the ODD spot.
I could press F12 while turning on my laptop, and bring up the boot manual. Here I can see my SSD and I can boot from it correctly. However, if I don't press F12 when it starts. It will always try to boot from HDD.
In the boot order in the BIOS, I only see HDD/SSD, USB Memory, ODD .... It doesn't give me the option to choose between SSD and HDD. Is there any other way to change the boot order among HDD and SSD?
    Thanks,
    Louis

    Hi,
I did the same operation to my Portege R30-A-17C, and have the same problem, is there any way to boot without pushing F12 every time.
    Thanks,

  • Upgrading from a HDD to a SSD for the HP 15-g010dx

I was wondeing if I could upgrade and replace my HP 15-g010dx Notbook HDD to either a 128gb SSD or 256gb SSD to increase performance and battery life? Which SSD would be best compatiable with the HP 15-g010dx Notebook? What size SSD would I need? I was looking at either the 128Gb or 256Gb Crucial MX100 SATA 2.5 7mm with 2.5 adapteron amazon. Also would upgrade to a SSD for the HP 15-g010dx be worth the upgrade?

    Here is the Manual:
    Manual
Yes an upgrade to an SSD is technically possible and would significantly improve performace, BUT. The laptop is essentially a "closed" system. There is no customer-accessible access door for the memory or the hard drive. It is necessary to remove the whole top cover in order to access the hard drive, remove it and replace it with a solid state drive. Doing so jeopardizes the warranty.
This series of videos will let you know what is involved:
    http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04324972&DocLang=en&docLocale=en_US&...
There have actually been a couple reported issues with recent HP laptops and the Crucial MX100 series which have not adequately been explained. My own suggestion is a Samsung Evo 840, but there are many good SSDs on the market.
