Portege R600 - Modify BIOS settings out of windows.

Hi,
I've got a question. Is there any possebility to modify the BIOS settings of a R600 with a tool?
Best would be something what uses a command line // could be opened with parameters,
I would like to change round about 100 machines remotely --> I definitely would need a tool for that.
Thank you!

Hm...
but I read about the possebility to do that on Toshiba notebooks while reading through the net.
And I can imagine that one of the many many tools which Toshiba is providing is able to do so...
In addition to that I know that its possible - another manufacturer provides a tool like that,
what is exactly able to do what I want. But only for the specific use on their machines.
Is there really no way?

  • PowerShell and WMI to modify BIOS settings

    Hello Scripting Guys!!
I am trying to change BIOS settings for HP DC8300 Desktop using PowerShell /WMI. By going though the HP Client Management Interface technical white paper from HP, which describes the class and method to accomplish this task, and research. I came to know about
    the following command.
    $AfterPower = gwmi -computername [PCName] -Namespace root/hp/instrumentedBIOS -Class HP_BIOSSettingInterface
$AfterPower.SetBIOSSetting ('After Power Loss', 'Off', 'password' )
The command runs successfully, however it displays the following output with the return code 6
    __GENUS : 2
    __CLASS : __PARAMETERS
    __SUPERCLASS :

    __RELPATH :

The Return Code  6 is Access Denied
This happens even when I run this script targeting my local machine. I am runing the PoweShell as Administrator  also checked the WMIControl security setting  from "Services and Application"

Any help would be highly appreciated.

    Hi Guys,
After spending a complete day and going through different forums and HP's documentation (HP CMI technical whitepaper), I finally got this working by the following script.
    $AfterPowerr= Get-WmiObject -computername "PCNAME" -Namespace root/hp/instrumentedBIOS
    -Class HP_BIOSSettingInterface
    $AfterPower.SetBIOSSetting('After Power', 'On ' , '<utf-16/> Password')
Password will be your current password and in plain text.

  • How to access BIOS settings in Bootcamp Windows 7?

I need to reset the BIOS boot order in my Bootcamp partition to boot first from a DVD/CD, such as a Windows 7 repair disk.  What are the steps to get there?

There is no BIOS, so you can't access the settings.

  • Portege R600-4201 - Does it work with Windows 7 properly?

My R600 has been on XP Pro SP3 since new, and runs very satisfactorily. However, there are Windows 7 features that I would like to use.
Has anyone here crossed over? What were the problems? Did the face recognition work? Fingerprint reader?
Above all, how is performance on Windows 7?
    Thanks

I installed a Seagate Momentus XT hybrid (SSD+magnetic) hard drive, and Windows 7 professional. The result is very satisfying - no glitches or problems. Toshiba CSR was excellent, but there were no problems to solve.
Worth it. With no tweaking, this unit now boots in 41 seconds and shuts down in 14 seconds. It'll improve. It seems stable and fast.

  • PNP OS and Bios settings

I thought I was understanding the settings for the bios settings for a Windows ME and 98 series for PNP OS should be set to yes.  And Windows NT series (2000, NT 4.0, 2003), should be set to no.   Now my next question is this.  If you have Windows XP, What should the settings be set at.  It is NT based, but maybe it should be set to yes.
    Opinions anyone?

The setting is there to determine if the bios will assign IRQ's or if you enable it the operating system will assign then as it see's fit the bios configures critical devices, but the operating system does the res
If a bios supports ACPI then the setting is revelant anymore windows 98 on up will use ACPI to assign IRQ's to devices so PNP OS isn't needed if the bios supports ACPI and the operating system does. I'd leave it at no though really since it isn't used much anymore you can leave it on or off.
Most boards from maybe 1999 and on up will support ACPI just in case your wondering.

  • Is it possible to set BIOS settings over a command line?

    Hi,
is there a possibility to set Toshiba BIOS settings over a command line tool?
We have hundreds of Toshiba Notebooks and would like to activate Wake On Lan.
I know there is hwsetup, but as far as I know this GUI doesn't accept parameters...
We would like to propagate new settings over a script.
    Any solution for this ?
    Thanx

    > is there a possibility to set Toshiba BIOS settings over a command line tool?
Something like that is not known to me and I doubt this could be possible.
As you said there is an preinstalled Toshiba HWSetup tool which can be used to change some certain BIOS settings. But this is only one way to change the BIOS settings from the Windows OS.

  • Portege R600 (PPR61E) - How to disable WLAN in BIOS?

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Portege R600, model number PPR61E with BIOS version 1.50. I want to be able to disable Wireless in the BIOS. This should be possible because the option exists on page 2 of the Bios screen under 'PCI LAN'. It is greyed out, however. I have tried enabling and disabling various options to try and get it to appear and the wireless switch is also enabled. It definately has a Wireless card in the Laptop because I can see wireless networks in windows.
I've also downloaded the latest BIOS from the Toshiba Website, version 1.80 but this does not work. It comes up with the error message, not compatible with this model of PC. I selected the correct model of machine and logged in with an account with local admin rights and ran the update from the machine.
Has anyone else had this problem? Help would be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Martin Milner

The Wlan cannot be disabled in BIOS!
If you want you can disable the WLan card in device manager but not in the BIOS.
Furthermore youve got a Wlan switch at the notebooks side there you can enable and disable the WLan functionality!

  • BIOS Settings unavailable to modify in Administrator Account

BIOS Settings unavailable to modify in Administrator Account.
When the user enters the BIOS as an administrator, he will not be able to make any changes in the BIOS but the Guest account will let him make all the changes.
    Scenario:
If you enter the BIOS as Guest
You will be able to access all the BIOS Options.
If you enter as the Administrator using the HP client security credentials or windows credentials.
The PC will not allow you to change any BIOS settings.
    Solution:
Enter the BIOS as a Guest and setup a BIOS Administrator Password.
Go to Security>”Setup BIOS Administrator Password”. The password needs to be 8 characters long.
After the Password is set, you will have to save changes and exit.
The PC will now restart. You can press F10 to enter BIOS again and will see the new BIOS login page.
Select BIOS Administrator account highlighted in Blue.
Enter the BIOS Administrator Password to access BIOS settings.
You will now be able to View and Make changes in the BIOS
    Reason:
HP client security adds an extension to the UEFI BIOS and enables BIOS protection.
If the user has not set a BIOS password, the Client security creadentials will treat the Windows user account as a Guest account but since the account is already assigned to a user, it will be listed as an Administrator account rather than a User account.
The actual open account will then be treated as an Admin account but is listed as a Guest Account.
Once the user installs a BIOS Administrator Password, the Client security program will know which account to be considered as an Admin account.
In the Image below, we have
    BIOS Administrator Account: modifiable
    Windows User account: Restricted
    Guest Account:View Only

  • Satellite C870-12E - BIOS settings greyed out

I recently noticed that i cannot change settings in BIOS anymore, almost all settings are greyed out. I'm not sure when this happened, maybe after updating to BIOS version 1.6 but it could also happened after upgrading to Windows 8. I'm just not sure. What i do know that it was ok before.
What i did notice is that in the Post-screen (where you can use F2) on the lower right side of the screen there is a sort of Power button Logo which i never noticed before.
All efforts to push whatever buttons falied to edit settings in the BIOS.
    Hope someone can help out.
    Thanks...

Tried it with and without supervisor password.
In the first post i mentioned the Powerbutton like logo with blue dots around it in the first boot screen. The strange thing is that my wife has exactly the same laptop and version 1.6 BIOS but she doesn't have that logo and can edit the BIOS settings without any problem.
So i keep wondering if that logo has something to do with it. Is it asking me to press and/or hold a certain key combination? I've tried anytihing i could think of but nothing works.
I also tried switching Fast- and Normal boot once again with no result.
Even with Fastboot enabled i still get the "F2" screen :(
Problem remains that under any circumstance i can enter the BIOS but not change anything but the user password.

  • Lenovo G50-30 Unable to access BIOS settings after Windows recovery

    Hi
I recently 'downgraded' a recently purchased Lenovo G50-30 with preinstalled Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 using a UEFI USB install on a GPT partition. I also updated the BIOS from A7CN40WW to the latest A7CN43WW and all was working fine. However, after performing a necessary restore of an system image created using the Windows 7 backup and restore tool, I am suddenly unable to access the BIOS settings, either with the novo button (I do get the menu to select BIOS) or with Fn +F2. All that happens is that I receive a blank screen with a static cursor in the upper left corner. I can however still access the boot menu Fn +F12. This is a particular pain as I obviousl can't select USB 3.0 in BIOS.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

OK, I managed to clear CMOS by disassembling and desoldering a leg off the the RTC battery but to no avail. The problem seems to be that BIOS a7cn43ww itself has somehow been corupted. In theory this should be able to be resolved by a reflash. The trouble here is there seems to be no way to reflash with a current or previous BIOS version, so I'll have to either wait for a newer version or someone may know better.
C'mon Lenovo support this simply isn't good enough. It's a brand new laptop and I'm considering returning it for a refund.

  • How to install Windows 7 in UEFI modeand what bios settings for D30

How do you install windows 7 in UEFI mode and what bios settings do I need to install it on a D30 workstation.

Not a ThinkStation guy, but FWIW, that can happen when installing Win 7 in UEFI mode when CSM support is not enabled in BIOS.
Is CSM support - either explicit or by selecting "other OS" and turning UEFI back on as suggested above - an option?

  • Portege R600 and Windows 7

I installed Windows 7 (custom install). Subsequently installed the Toshiba installer to load all relevant programs/drivers. I have a problem with the screen, particularly in Word 2003. It will suddenly distort, so that the words become faded/dotted/lined, in such a way that you cannot read the screen. A second open document in Word will be unaffected. Closing the particular document and re-opening clears the problem. The document remains fine, and is not corrupted.
Also found that sometimes when booting up or waking from hibernation, the machine freezes and it sounds like the fan is working overtime.
Nothing will happen then unless I force a power down and restart.
Finally, the wheel on my mouse (latest Windows 7 drivers installed) will not work to resize a Word screen, and will not work in the folder pane in Outlook 2003.
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers

Strange! I have installed Office 2003 on two Toshiba notebooks with Win7 and everything is OK.
Have you noticed some other display issues running Win7 on your Portege R600, for instance in Internet Explorer or some other running application?

  • X220 - Can't change UEFI/BIOS settings anymore, locked out of update

Since a few weeks my X220 is not able to make any changes to the  UEFI/BIOS settings. When trying to do so either any changes get silently ignored or I get one of the following error message while trying to save.
Security - Failed to save storage: Setup. Status: 0x9
Security - Failed to save storage: PwdStatusVar. Status: 0x9
Security - Failed to save storage: LocalSecurityVars. Status: 0x9
Didn't find anything on those errors here or on the web, unfortunately.
This is with UEFI 1.19, unfortunately this problem even prevents me from upgrading to the latest release (this is a linux-only system, so no Windows-tools, also I had UEFI-only enabled in the settings when this happened, so the Update-CD won't boot). Also I had some parts of the hardware disabled when this started to appear, so can't reenable them anymore, which is pretty bad as you might imagine.
    Three notes:
*) there is one exception to not being able to save, I can successfully set (and remove) a supervisor password, but that's all
*) After the UEFI tries to save the settings there's a hang for 2-3 seconds, don't know if this is related.
*) The time from pressing the power button until the X220 reaches the boot loader is significantly longer since this effect showed up
Anyone got a clue what these errors are actually about? I thought about pulling the BIOS/UEFI battery and trying to force a reset of the settings that way. Is this safe or a bad idea?
    Solved!

I think you should call the support team in your country and request service:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-4HWSE3
Otherwise, if you're comfortable removing the keyboard and palmrest, you could try to disconnect and reconnect the CMOS battery.  But there's no guarantee that this will solve the problem, which I why I think the better idea is to call the support team.

  • BIOS changes made by windows 8.1 without my knowledge

I am trying to have dual boot in my desktop so that i can login into Windows 8.1 or Ubuntu Linux. Everything is working fine except something very strange is happening. In my BIOS - boot order is getting changed by Windows. Even if i make it load ubuntu first and then Windows bootloader. Very first time it works...it loads ubuntu....later if i opt to go for windows.....windows simply changes that sequence such that windows boot manager will be loaded first and then ubuntu....while if i opt for ubuntu it works gracefully.
It seems windows doens't want to live peacefully with other OSs.
Windows should not be updating the BIOS settings at the first place.
    Background:
I installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on a partition of an external disk drive connected to my HP desktop.
Secure boot is disabled; fast boot is disabled; legacy boot is disabled. When I boot Ubuntu and restart within Ubuntu, grub-efi lets me choose whether I want Ubuntu or Windows. However, if I go back to Windows and restart, Windows always changes my boot order, placing ubuntu last in the list. I always have to manually modify my UEFI settings and place Ubuntu ahead of Windows if I want to go back to Ubuntu. This seems like too much work. Is there any way to keep Windows from doing this?
Working with HP Support for past 2 days...tried everything...re-installing Linux and Windows also but no help. HP Support is trying to find out an excuse so that they can find some basis not to help me.

    AshuSharmalnia, welcome to the forum.
I am not certain why this is happening.  However, I highly suggest using a second drive for Ubuntu.  I dual booted with Ubuntu for years; never with Win 8.1.  I found that using a second drive for Ubuntu solved all of my problems similar to what you are experiencing.  Also, www.ubuntuforums.org is a must for anyone using Ubuntu.  The members are extremely helpful and know the OS very well.

  • X230 VB Script for Bios Settings

    Hello,
i use a VB Script to set the bios Settings (WakonLan, Boot order etc.). I use the Lenovo WMI Class for my script!
If a use a script from Lenovo "Lenovo BIOS Windows Management Instrumentation Interface Deployment Guide for Desktop" to read all bios Settings, missing the Settings for SpeedStepModeBattery and SpeedStepModeAC.
    the script is:
    On Error Resume Next
    Dim colItems
    strComputer = "LOCALHOST"
    Set objWMIService = GetObject("WinMgmts:" & "{ImpersonationLevel=Impersonate}!\\" & strComputer & "\root\wmi")
    Set colItems = objWMIService.ExecQuery("Select * from Lenovo_BiosSetting")
    For Each objItem in colItems
    If Len(objItem.CurrentSetting) > 0 Then
    Setting = ObjItem.CurrentSetting
    StrItem = Left(ObjItem.CurrentSetting, InStr(ObjItem.CurrentSetting, ",") - 1)
    StrValue = Mid(ObjItem.CurrentSetting, InStr(ObjItem.CurrentSetting, ",") + 1, 256)
    WScript.Echo StrItem + " = " + StrValue
    End
My question has been forgotten (SpeedStepModeBattery & SpeedStepModeAC)?
if a use a script to set the bios Settings for SpeedStepModeBattery & SpeedStepModeAC, i got a error invalid Parameter!
    regards Michael

for HP computers you'll need the HP BiosConfigUtility
    check out their site: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/cmit/HP_BCU.html
you'll need to build a repset file. this is best done by getting the current config from a configured machine or from a machine that hasn't been modified, making your changes, and then setting the config on the target machine(s).
The user guide is not included in the download, but it is linked in the above page right at the top.   Once you have all the pieces you'll just need a script to put it all together.  note changing these settings will put BitLocker
in recovery mode if you're using it, so suspend it before making the change(s).
