Portege R700 - Enrolling Fingerprints on Windows 7

I have been having issues trying to get the Fingerprint Utility to work on my new test laptop. I have created a new SCCM build and associated task sequence which includes the utility.
However when I launch the Fingerprint Utility for the first time the finger prompt pops up which I can't bypass to register any finger prints?
I am using the version 1.0.2.32 on Windows 7.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Did you read fingerprint setup details in the user manual mate?
In use, the fingerprint authentification system will use the same username and password as defined within the windows OS. If no windows password has been configured, you must do this before starting the fingerprint registration process.
Click on Start -> All Programs -> Toshiba Utilities -> Toshiba Fingerprint Utility of click on icon in the taskbar.
The enroll screen is displayed. Enter the current account password on the windows password field. If no windows password has been configured, you will be asked to configure the logon password. Then click next.
Click the non-enrolled finger icon above the finger you want to register and then click next
The note go enrollment operation screen is displayed. Conform the message and then click next.
Then the scanning practice screen is displayed. You are able to practice swiping (three times) your fingers to ensure you use the correct method. When you finished, click next.
Swipe three times with the same finger. If succeeds, message will appear. Then click OK
Further details you will find in user manual page 82

I have deinstalled application, cleaned registries, reinstalled application from software package downloaded from Toshiba site,
    thank you,
    Best regards,

Can you please tell me which language do you use?
The whole story is somehow strange. I use Toshiba notebooks almost 10 years, have installed different stuff numerous times but I never saw something like this.

    Hi
I assume you are speaking about the fonts in the Internet Explorer window.
    Right?
Please check the option View in the menubar. Zoom should be set to 100% and Textsize should be set to medium.
Furthermore you can check the settings in control panel -> display -> Appearance tab
There you will find option called Font size. In my case its set to Normal.
    Try it out.

  • Portege R700-17Z - Upgrading to Windows 7 64bit

    Hi,
    I currently have a Toshiba Portege R700-17Z.
I want to increase the amount of RAM from 2GB to 8GB, and as a result I want to run Windows 64 bit. I was planning on running a clean reinstall, but is 64 bit Windows built into this machine? Or will I need a separate disk?
If I need a separate disk, any ideas on how to do this without an optical drive?
    Many thanks!

At first info about RAM upgrade: You are right. You can upgrade your Portege up to 8GB and compatible 4GB modules have part number PA3677U-1M4G.
According notebook specification your Portege was delivered with WIN7 32BIT PROFESSIONAL but it is supported for Win7 64bit. 64bit drivers and Toshiba specific tools and utilities can be downloaded from Toshiba download page.
What is your decision now? If you need some assistance with OS installation let us know.

  • Portege R700 - Need drivers for Windows 7 32bit

    Hi there
I have the new R700 that I am developing a Windows 7 Enterprise build for and I cannot find the driver files or correct install programs for the 32bit version of the TOSHIBA Fingerprint Utility. I found the download for the R700 on the US site, and while this installs, it does not have the 32bit driver for the Fingerprint Scanner in the R700. Can someone either direct me to the correct download, or post the x86 download on the NZ site?
BTW - the x64 download works fine if I install Windows 7 Ent x64 and install it.
    Model number = PT311A-00J00Q
Component = Authen Tec Inc. AES1660
    PCI Device ID = USB\VID_08FF&PID_168B
    Thanks

Yeah I checked the European site too, and it had the exact same files as the US site. The AUS\NZ sites have nothing except a BIOS update (as you saw), and the x86 TFPU from the US and UK sites does not work - it does not have the correct PCI\VEN device id in the driver inf file.
In the meantime, while I was fiddling with the x64 build I noticed the x64 driver package has an x86 folder, and in there is the correct driver for the x86 build - which is just bizzare in my opinion. Why put the x86 driver in the x64 download package?
So I installed that on the Win 7 x86 build, and viola - the drivers are installed and everything works.
Now my problem is that I cannot silently install the TFPU without it rebooting. If you just run the setup, it installs then prompts for a reboot. If you use the /silent install switch it reboots automatically. Are there any other install switches I can use before I repackage this app to work correctly?
    Thanks

  • Portege R700 - Installed Power Saver on Windows 7 64bit

    Hi,
I was looking for a way to reduse fan noise on a Win7 Portege R700-174 and read to install "Power Saver" from the Toshiba support site.
Installation was OK, but I cannot use ist because Common Module is not installed. I get an error "Code: 0x2". I already understand that "Power Saver" and "Common Module" is not intended for windows 7. Why have I been able to install it anyway?
Now when I try to remove "Power Saver" i get yet another error and uninstall fails.
What can I do? Any help is appreciated!
    Regards
    Michael

    Hey,
Toshiba Common Modules and Power Saver are designed for Windows XP only! This software isnt compatible to Vista and Windows 7. In this case you have to install Value Added Package.
Anyway, not its too late and you must remove the installed software. If you get an error while uninstalling I would recommend using CCleaner to remove the programs. CCleaner can also uninstall all software that you have installed and its freeware tool. Do a Google search to download it and try uninstalling the Toshiba tools again.

  • Unable to enroll fingerprints for the Win7 built-in Administrator account

In Windows 7 I tried to enroll fingerprints for the built-in Administrator account, but doing so failed every time with the error message The enrollment could not be completed.
I could not find a solution online and the Validity software was working just fine, as there were no issues with other users on the same system. As a work-around, I created another account with administrator privileges and enrolling the fingerprints worked just fine. My guess is that the permissions for the built-in Administrator account are different from any administrator account you can create yourself. What I noticed is that any self created account is part of the Users group, and that the built-in Administrator account is not part of this group. I'm not sure, but maybe this is the cause of the problem.
Anyway, I thought I would share my experience here, in case anyone else encounters the same problem.

    same issue in build 10049.
It would help to be more specific in the symptom description.  E.g. using Narrator may help.  (Win-Enter).  Does it say what you are "seeing" (or should be seeing)?
FWIW I think it is relatively easy to reproduce symptoms which are related to this thread's description using Narrator (Start Screen without Search bar, Search bar without Taskbar, or Search bar with Taskbar but without Start Menu
when the only time that the Search bar should appear is when the Start Menu is there, for example) so that could also help specify what your real symptom is.  BTW there are horrendous delays when using Narrator.

  • WXP Sound Driver install problems on Portege R700

    Hello
Have installed Windows XP on a new Portege R700 PT310E. Have managed to reinstall all the other drivers but cannot for the life of me get the sound drivers installed. Installed the sound drivers from the website but still no audio device is detected. The unknown device in device manager is showing as VEN 8086 DEV 3B56 but theres not really any useful info on the PCI database.
Any suggestions on how I can sort. Cost me a few frustrating hours today !!
    Cheers

Do you have XP Service Pack 3 installed?
You must have SP3 installed for the HD Audio drivers to work properly. SP3 added low level HD Audio support.

Also ensure you have installed the Intel Chipset Utility.

  • Portege R700 - original recovery image re-installation failed

    Hello
I have a Toshiba Portege R700 for years.
As i already have some trouble, i did a reinstallation few years ago, from recovery partition. Directly.
But, few days ago, i had some issues with my portege.
HDD seems to be broken as it make some noise and was really, really, really, ..., really slow.
So, after making some data backup during hours and hours (remember, it was really, ..., really slow), i lauch a complete re-installation from "recovery partition". It seems to be good, but .. never finished the process, with same HDD noise, and again slow HDD I/O.
OK, my own diadnostic: change HDD.
This done, and using the Toshiba recovery DVD just bought (yes impossible to find the earlied burn DVD), i have ... the same issue. The recovery process does not end even if 'im waiting for days ...
And i have the same HDD noise. With the new one!!
So having a MSDN licence, i installed a Win7 Pro 32bits, but not the Toshiba one.
And it's running for days without any issue!
But i have to reinstall all drivers, and software delivered by Toshiba.
Obviouly i will prefer to find what is the exact issue with this Portege, and reinstall the Toshiba version of Windows 7 Pro.
So, if someonre read the story until, the question is: ANY IDEA?
How to make a HW diagnostic? How to identify the exact problem?
    Thanks for your help.
    Jol

    Hi Dr Lamp.
    Remember that i
    - did a successfull recovery from recovery partition few years ago
    - tried 2 recovery recently
try 1, from recovery with initial HDD.
I'm not REALLY sure, but i think that the recovery failled during step "recovery image installation from copied data step 50/52"
    I'm not sure.
As it take hours during this step, if it go to the next step or not, as i let it run for hours and hours (yes, i'm persistent)
try 2, from original Toshiba DVD i ordered (35)
I'm sure it fail during an additionnal step you forgot.
Because after "installed OS will be prepared for usage", which configure a lot of things using numerous reboot, there is the final step which is "first launch of win7"
Note that not the exact term, but is something like that.
    Thanks for your help

  • Portege R700 -- disabling Intel AMT in BIOS causes fan to run constantly

I recently purchased a Portege R700-1321, which shipped with BIOS 1.40.  I'm running Windows 7 Pro x64.  I have attempted to disable Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) on this machine by going into the ME BIOS (via ctrl-P at bootup), setting an admin password, and then disabling ME completely.  However, when I reboot after disabling ME, the fan starts to run at high speed and runs continually so long as the machine is powered on.  Re-enabling ME in the BIOS and rebooting again causes the fan to behave normally.
I believe this is a BIOS rather than Windows problem because upon booting the machine, the fan steps up from low to high speed over the course of about a second before the Windows startup screen appears.  Windows appears to be fine despite the continually running fan, so AFAIK this is not the freezing-up issue that has been reported for R700s, despite the similar involvement of the fan.
Is anyone else seeing a similar issue?

I noticed that when battery is charging the miniPCI temperature spikes to 50 degrees. Unplugging the AC or reaching the charging threshold causes sudden drop in the temperature. The interesting thing is that the minipci sensor is near the southbridge (near the ram) and the battery sensor itself stays stable at 30 degrees.

  • Portege R700 - freeze & fan

    Hi,
I've a two day old Portege R700 and it has developed a freeze and fan issue. Actually it kicked in on day one.
Basically the screen freezes and the cooling fan kicks into gear and nothing else responds until you do the off & on again thing. Its happened a couple of times now on two different days.
    Any ideas?
    Send it back?
Download an amazing bit of software I currently know nothing about?
Persevere on the toshiba website until I find out how to contact Toshiba directly rather than you good folk?
Ignore it and hope it goes away?
Any advice welcome. Though please make it as basic as possible as I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to the technical stuff.
    R
(Just in case you're thinking about overheating, based in the UK and it isn't a hot day and there is free air circulation around the laptop. The second freeze happened after only ~2h30 of use.)

    Hi,
Apologies for the lack of details & thanks for taking the time to respond.
    OS:
    Windows 7 32 bit.
    CONFIG:
As it originally was, I have made no modifications other than loading any updates when I first switched the laptop on.
    SOFTWARE:
    Office professional 2010
    itunes
Mendeley (An academic paper management system)
    internet explorer 8
(+any prepackaged stuff that came with the laptop that I haven't opened or explored.)
    McAfee antivirus
    POWER SUPPLY:
So far I've only run the laptop off the AC power supply. So I do not know if it will also happen on battery power.
On a positive note, it hasn't happened for the last 3 hours. I will however hunt out the nearest authorized service and ask a few questions.
    Thanks.

  • Portege R700 - Why no 64 bit OS?

Something I am not quite following.
I love the look of and weight of the portege but cant understand why I cant buy one in the uk with 64 bit professional windows.
I mean 32 bit should only be able to address up to 3 to 3.5 gb.
They are being sold with upto 4 and all adverts suggest they can be expanded to 8gb.
Or can someone point me towards someone selling them with the 64 bit os.

    Looking at the toshiba page
    http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/series/Portege-R700-Series/1087011/
I can see no 106. Nor any with 64 bit os. Where did you get yours?

  • Portege R700 - Change boot order remotely

    Hi all,
Is it possible to remotely change a Toshiba Portege R700 BIOS? - More specifically change the boot order to PXE boot (instead of HDD).
I plan to deploy images to our laptops using SCCM 2007 but need a utility to change the BIOS settings. HP and Dell both allow you to do this, does Toshiba?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi buddy,
I think Syntax is right and I would recommend using a normal based Windows remote program and HWsetup for chaning BIOS settings and boot order.
If HWsetup is not installed you can download it here:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
I also use this pretty nice and easy tool to change BIOS settings and I have taken a screenshot where you can see its possible to change the boot order with one click only :)

  • Difference between Portege R700 and Satellite R630

What is the difference between two models Portege R700 and Satellite R630?
Is it only fingerprint reader, dock station port and more powerful configuration (CPU, SSD, Wi-fi Type 802.11n, )?
Is it the same body materials used? Is it the same weight?
    I found such compare:

In the past Toshiba has offered optically same notebooks but with different model names. Both models have had also the same manuals.
As you can see both notebooks are optically absolutely the same. The same notebook case will be used on both of them.
Main difference is that Portege notebooks are business notebooks and designed for professional usage and offer more security features (fingerprint), maybe different HDDs and so on.
Satellite notebooks are designed, more or less for standard usage. If you compare the price of these notebooks you will understand what Im talking about.
In my opinion this question about weight is not so interesting and so important. If there is some difference around 30 gram it cannot be so important. Fact is that both notebooks are ultra light and ultra portable notebooks.
Design is fantastic, notebook is not too big and you can take it with you everywhere. With simply words brilliant notebook.

  • New X301 --- Can't enroll fingerprints.

Brand new X301 laptop and can't enroll fingerprint via Lenovo Fingerprint Software.  I enter my Windows password (same as power ON password, right?) and try to click on SUBMIT.  SUBMIT button appears to be dead.  No reaction whatsoever.  Rolling mouse over the button gets no reaction either.  What's up with this?   Machine is 1 hour old.  Help please.  Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for all replies.  I went to bed grumpy and when I rebooted this morning, everything worked fine.  (i.e., it registered my fingerprints with no problem).  No clue what happened overnight, but I'm thrilled and will keep my fingers crossed.
