Portege R700 - Keyboard Cover

Do Toshiba or anyone else for that matter make a keyboard cover for the R700 series?
i want to preserve my laptop in as new condition, so wearing the buttons is something i'd like to avoid with one of those translucent rubberised covers i've seen for other laptops
cheers
Ben

Hi 1994F7PT,
As far as I know Toshiba doesnt offer such keyboard covers. I have done a Google search for keyboard covers on Portege R700 and I found some offers but for US keyboard. Maybe you can find some keyboard covers for R700 and EU keyboard. Have also a look on eBay, there you can also get many notebook parts.
If you have found something you can post it here. Im sure its interesting for other P700 owners! :)

  • Portege R700 - how to clean keyboard keys?

    Hi
I have a Toshiba Portege R700 - and I have spilt some coke onto a small section of the keyboard.
Unsurprisingly, two or three keys are now "sticky".
Is this as simple as getting access to the keyboard and cleaning the relevant keys?
Or is it not as simple as that?
If I can do this, is there a pictorial guide on how to access the keyboard?
I am loathe to open it without a look at the tech manual first.
    Thanks

    Hello
In my opinion you will not be able to clean it properly. Coke is full of sugar. It can be complicated but you can try it.
In worst case you must exchange he keyboard.
So what you must do is to remove key cap for each critical button. It is fixed with small plastic holders. Just take something like credit card but more stabile, put under the key cap and try to remove it. Under the key cap is small key mechanism. Try to clean it up with wet cloth. Be very careful and clean it without much pressure.
When you think it is OK place the key cap in the place and press it down, very gently of course.
You will hear click noise and the key cp should be in place again.
I hope you will be able to get it work again.
    Please post some feedback.

  • Portege R700 - after Java update UMTS/3G is not found

    Portege R700 Win 7 Prof.Pro x64.
After updating from java 6u20 to 6u23 the wireless manager isn't able to find the UMTS/3G device. Afterswitching back to pref system recovery point, the UMTS/3G device was detected by the wireless manager correctly and everthing works fine, but the recovered java 6u20 doesn't work in the system and even in the browser (ff 3.6.13 32bit).
What can I do to get back correct function?

    Hey,
    >but the recovered java 6u20 doesn't work in the system
What does this mean exactly? Do you get an error message?
Maybe you have to update the 3G driver with new Java version. Have you already tried that?

  • Portege R700 - Issues with video playback with resolution over 360p

I've got this video playback issue from day one. While for instance on YouTube, videos with resolution above 360p freeze up while the sound is ok.
I've contacted Toshiba through which I got a linke to the latest bios and drivers. After the upgrade issue persists. I sometimes get a green screen while watching flash video as well. I'm guessing this is a graphic card hardware issue. Any ideas? Thanks! (Portege R700 19L, win7 pro 64)

    Hello
Have you tried watching videos in high performance mode and tested different Internet browsers?

  • Portege R700 - fonts in main window of AuthenTec Truesuite has changed

    Hello,
I have pre-installed on my Toshiba Portege R700 AuthenTec Truesuite version 3.0.1.149. After couple of days of good performance the font from the main window has changed becoming impossible to read. Probably I change some settings in Windows and also this font changed because for sure I did not change anything in your application. Having in mind that my OS is Windows XP Professional, SP3, pelse be so kind and help me with a solution to revert to standard fonts.
I have deinstalled application, cleaned registries, reinstalled application from software package downloaded from Toshiba site,
    thank you,
    Best regards,
    Cristian

Can you please tell me which language do you use?
The whole story is somehow strange. I use Toshiba notebooks almost 10 years, have installed different stuff numerous times but I never saw something like this.

  • Should I use a keyboard cover with the new retina screen?

Someone in an apple store told me I shouldn't use a silicone keyboard cover on the new 13" macbook pro w/ retina because apparently theres not enough space for it when the laptop is closed and its been causing faults? Anyone know anything about this?

It also blocks the air intake.
I use the original thin foam packaging that comes between the screen and KB from the factory to reduce debris gettting in and the monitor getting impressions.
Since it's light and thin, lets air get in under it and into the machine throught the keyboard, deflects spills it's been great for the last few years.
I use a external keyboard and scroll wheel mouse to take the wear and tear, I hate trackpads anyway.

  • Why does the keyboard cover text fields ios 8

Why does the keyboard cover text fields in safari in ios 8 in safari?  I've never had this problem before, but now when a text field is near the bottom of the page, I can't move it above the keyboard.  If there any fix? This is extremely annoying and renders filling in text on many web pages impossible.

This solved it for me. I only needed to split it once before it was fixed (but shouldn't have had to do it at all). Thanks, chuck9999, you're my hero!

Re: Why does the keyboard cover text fields ios 8in response to TeraBI had the exact same problem on my iPad Air and it's working fine now. Try toggling your keyboard a few times between split and regular using the keyboard key in the lower right corner.  I also then docked the keyboard a few times.  The turned-off/rebooted the iPad and it's worked fine ever since.  I stumbled upon the fix reading another post, and it did work although not sure why.  My guess is toggling the keyboard and rebooting updated something in the "registry".

  • Will a US layout keyboard cover fit on a Japanese Macbook Air 13"

I'd like to buy a Macbook Air in Japan, however prefer the US key layout. E.g. @ sign should be at 2. Does the Japan version have different size keys/layout? If so I guess a US keyboard cover wont fit

Look up JIS keyboard on google to see the differences.
You should be able to get either JIS or US

  • Hello! Question about Macbook Pro keyboard cover.

Hello! I have recently bought a Mac Book Pro is Retina display ( 13 in) and I am looking to protect it as much as possible. I bought a case. I saw the keyboard covers and though they were a good idea. I was almost about to purchase one until i read a comment with someone stating that the keyboard covers were not good for the laptops. That they make them overheat or something to that effect. Is this true? I am simply looking for some knowledgeable advice since i don't know too much and the technical side. Thank you for your time!

Cases placed around Mac laptops run a risk of causing the computer to overheat.  There are smal openings for the fans to pull air in and push it out, providing cooling.  The Aluminum case is a heat sink providing a major way to remove heat.  Any covering of he Aluminum body inhibits he heat removal process.  The more enclosure you add, case and keyboard cover, the more difficult it becomes to get rid of he heat he computer produces.
Be cautious about adding too much in the way of enclosure.

  • WXP Sound Driver install problems on Portege R700

    Hello
Have installed Windows XP on a new Portege R700 PT310E. Have managed to reinstall all the other drivers but cannot for the life of me get the sound drivers installed. Installed the sound drivers from the website but still no audio device is detected. The unknown device in device manager is showing as VEN 8086 DEV 3B56 but theres not really any useful info on the PCI database.
Any suggestions on how I can sort. Cost me a few frustrating hours today !!
    Cheers

Do you have XP Service Pack 3 installed?
You must have SP3 installed for the HD Audio drivers to work properly. SP3 added low level HD Audio support.

  • Keyboard cover for Late 2008 Unibody MB Pro?

Hi, was just wondering if anyone has found a good keyboard cover for a Unibody Late 2008 MB Pro.  I recently purchased this Moshi ClearGuard keyboard cover but it didn't fit, despite a few people saying it did in the reviews.
    Thanks,
    Evan

Most keyboard covers don't seem to fit well, as also trapping additional heat on the machine. I've been using these MBP's since 2006 and never had a need or desire for a keyboard cover. (never had a keyboard issue, of course I never run it thru the dishwasher,or use it in the shower, or use it for a stand to run my espresso machine)...
the additional heat will do your machine no help.
Being careful and using common sense is your best protection.
    Your call though

  • Non-gummy Macbook Pro keyboard cover (online retailer)?

    hi all,
as anyone who has ever spilt a beverage over a Macbook's keyboard can attest to, the Macbook is a sensitive beast when it comes to liquid.
I've been meaning to buy a keyboard cover for my Macbook Pro (2.2 Ghz Quadcore model, 2011) for ages. But I know that some keyboard covers are a lot better than others in terms of texture.
Can anyone recommend an online retailer of such covers? I'm after the non-gummy type. The kind that is made of a transparent plasticy material that doesn't stick to your fingers or rub off onto the screen when the lid is closed.
In the past, I've had one of the crappy gummy styles, and they're horrible to type on (like I said, they get stuck to your fingers). Whereas my mum had a much nicer, more neautral-feeling cover for her own macbook. it didn't look or feel like there really was one on it (which is what you want, or so I think).
So if anyone has a keyboard cover on their Macbook (Pro), and it fits the above non-gummy description, can they please let me know where they got it?
    many thanks : )
    Sam
PS does the current Macbook Pro use an identical keyboard layout? will a cover that fits it, fit my 2011 machine?

    GeertN:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The keyboard and top case of the MacBook Pro are a single piece. If you can purchase one you can replace it yourself following directions at iFixit. If you are interested in doing this yourself please post back for additional tips.

  • Portege R700 - Installed Power Saver on Windows 7 64bit

    Hi,
I was looking for a way to reduse fan noise on a Win7 Portege R700-174 and read to install "Power Saver" from the Toshiba support site.
Installation was OK, but I cannot use ist because Common Module is not installed. I get an error "Code: 0x2". I already understand that "Power Saver" and "Common Module" is not intended for windows 7. Why have I been able to install it anyway?
Now when I try to remove "Power Saver" i get yet another error and uninstall fails.
What can I do? Any help is appreciated!
    Regards
    Michael

    Hey,
Toshiba Common Modules and Power Saver are designed for Windows XP only! This software isnt compatible to Vista and Windows 7. In this case you have to install Value Added Package.
Anyway, not its too late and you must remove the installed software. If you get an error while uninstalling I would recommend using CCleaner to remove the programs. CCleaner can also uninstall all software that you have installed and its freeware tool. Do a Google search to download it and try uninstalling the Toshiba tools again.
    Check this!!!

    Hi
I assume you are speaking about the fonts in the Internet Explorer window.
    Right?
Please check the option View in the menubar. Zoom should be set to 100% and Textsize should be set to medium.
Furthermore you can check the settings in control panel -> display -> Appearance tab
There you will find option called Font size. In my case its set to Normal.
    Try it out.
